  1. She can be my wingman any time! Or is the correct term wingwoman? :) Oh and nice helicopter, too! ;)
  2. Just a few pictures I took recently...
  3. Wow, it's like finding a wallet on the street. But it's not even illegal to keep it. :) You, sir, have my highest respect!
  4. For real? Wow, I didn't expected that! I've bought Mi-8 for full price too, but I'm still sure my money was well spent, and I could do without this 60% coupon. But I must admit it's very fair and welcome decision, many people around here will be very happy. Thank you so much, Matt! P.S.: Now just release some nice high-fidelity module so I can make use of my hardly earned coupon. ;)
  5. Seriously, guys, get over it. You bought Mi-8 for full price, so you probably wanted it enough to pay 50 bucks. You probably thought that $50 is a fair price for such high quality product if you didn't mind to pay it. You probably wanted it pretty bad, if you bought it that early. And you probably had money for it, if you could afford to spend it, right? If the above paragraph was false, you'd wait for sale. Just like people do when they see a product they want "not that much", or can't afford it. I paid the full price too, and I don't feel robbed. Yes, its a bit unfortunate, but not that bad as you make it. So please don be over-dramatic. Although I must admit that such a HUGE sale on product that is out only for 2 weeks (let alone in Beta) is strange marketing policy. I'd expect no more than 10 to 15% on a brand new product.
  6. Just had to post it... http://www.engrish.com/2013/09/produces-brown-mushroom-cloud/ So it's confirmed.... the Chinese DO HAVE NBC's  :megalol:
  7. Rafale all the way! :joystick:
  8. Yeah, compared to some other forums I know, I must say that DCS community is one of the best, if not the very best of them all. Yes, we sometimes argue hard, and we voice our opinions rather loudly, but, except a handful of individuals, still keeping good manners. I know this forum as a very friendly place, where people gather to share their passion for flying. If somebody needs help, it does not take long and another forum member comes with good advice. Overall, I'm very happy and proud to be part of this community. Only thing I dare to disagree is the "age theory". Yes, people tend to get more mature as they grow older, but experience tells me it's not as common sight as you might think. It's not about how old you are, it's about how you want to behave. I think the key is somewhere else. I don't want to sound elitist, but this forum is about high fidelity flight simulations, right? And if you want be to good (or at least decent) at it, you need some intelligence, understanding, willingness to learn and improve, and lots of patience. And I think all of these virtues are a good prerequisite that you will be able to discuss in a mature manner, too. And I won't even mention that not a small portion of this community consists of real life pilots and the like. You know, before strapping you into a multi-million-dollar jet, they usually make sure you're not a complete moron. ;)

Aah, gimme a break... Real men need REAL ships! :D
  10. From this altitude, it looks absolutely stunning, almost like a real photo.
  11. So true! I'm only 25 but I'm already noticing this. Guess I'm getting old then... :D Funny how some people can take meaningless numbers so seriously.
  12. Thank you Matt for this great info! The landscape looks great, those hills seem to be much smoother than before. Only one rant though, I hope that lighting / shading will be improved, as SkateZilla suggests. Right now, those textures look way too cartoony. Other than that, I have nothing else to complain about. Let's hope it will not only look good, but, most importantly, will also bring much needed performance improvement to DCS!
  13. Performing group aerobatics certainly requires intense mental effort, precision, determination and fine aesthetic feeling. You have not only to fully master your tool (the airplane), but most importantly to have a clear idea what your display should look like, what impression should it leave and how to achieve it. And finally, aerobatic is intended to entertain the audience, but also to inspire them, amaze them, please their eyes with an beautiful sight, and leave a strong impression in them. Some teams also use music as background of their displays, exactly to enhance this effect. I'm no expert, but I guess all of the above pretty sure are characteristics of art. :smartass:
  14. Unfortunately, not for me. Did complete reinstall yesterday, no avail. It's the first time when I'm getting better FPS inside cockpit than outside. I love the model but this is insane. I don't know how many polygons it has, or how it compares to models in other games, but I still think that one high-poly model should not bring a computer to its knees, not even a mid-range one.
  15. OK, so my wishlist: -Working fan of course. Like everybody else. ;) -Working winch. -And paratroopers would be fun too.
  16. Video description says: "A ground resonance test gone wrong..." I'm no expert but wasn't that exactly what they wanted to achieve?
  17. Yes, no argument about that. I just meant to say that when I fly a Russian helo with Russian markings (especially a military one), the cockpit would naturally be in Russian. And I have no problems with that. Of course it would be nice to have both Russian and English version, just like with Black Shark. Especially since, as you say, there are ones with English cockpit in real life. Thanks, always wondered what exact difference is there with these two.
  18. I have no problems with Russian pits. It's a Russian machine and I want everything as authentic as it gets. In fact, I've learned Cyrillic only to be able to read cockpit labels back in Flanker 1 days. :) For the Shark, I'm of course using Russian labels as well, and have no problems finding whatever switch I want. Only those damn acronyms cause me headache. Like when EKRAN shows ОТКАЗ ЭЗУ-Ц or something like it. How the hell I'm supposed to know what ЭЗУ-Ц stands for? ;)
  19. What? We have 3 helicopters in DCS world now, 2 Cold War era attack planes used to operate at nearly treetop level, and... wait for it... even ground forces simulation. And yet you are asking why some people are upset for not having collidable trees? No offense, mate, but I mean seriously? When omitting such a important aspect of ground, helicopter, and low-level air combat, I'm asking why people should not see it as a problem. Especially since RoF has it, IL-2 had it to some degree, and even FSX if I'm not mistaken.
  20. Well, seems like I have no choice other than trying it too. Let's start downloading... Just one question, keeping my input files from current 1.2.6 shouldn't break anything, should it? I really don't want to remap inputs for all my modules one after another.
  21. During one of my very first takeoffs, I found myself unable to control the yaw. At some point it worked normally, and all of a sudden, even a full pedals deflection couldn't stop my helo from spinning. Then back to normal flight, and back to uncontrollable spinning... Somehow I managed to bring it back to the ground in one piece (this baby can take heavy impact pretty easily, I tell you), just to found I accidentally took off with my throttle lowered. As I raised my collective, the engines just haven't enough power to drive the tail rotor. After fully opening my throttle, voila - problem fixed. About ground resonance, I'd like to know as well.
  22. Yeah, I'd have no problems paying for any Flanker in full DCS-standard, especially one of the later models. Not that much for FC3 level, as I like my cockpits clickable. Ka-50 has spoiled me. But I must admit that playing around with thrust vectoring & AFM would be lots of fun. :) Sadly, I don't believe that DCS: Su-35 will happen before 2076.
  23. Amazing, love all the Flankerz! Thanks Matt!
  24. I'm positive it has something to do with the 3D model. Did a quick test with an AI Mi-8 flying over bare land, well outside populated map, at high altitude, no other units in the mission. Result: some 25 FPS when looking up close, even worse when ground is in field of view. It can get as bad as 18 FPS when sitting on FARP (with no other objects nearby). As I zoom out, my FPS gets better, until it finally tops out my monitor's refresh rate of 60FPS. Did the same test with UH-1 and got some 30 FPS in the air (not optimal, but still better), and finally with Mi-24 (noticeably less detailed model) = 60 FPS no matter what. So yes, everything shows to the 3D model - the closer are you viewing it from, the worse your FPS gets. If one high-poly model can eat much more FPS than all those fancy effects, something's not quite right.
  25. Hello, guys. Not that I've done some serious testing, but when sitting in the cockpit, there's no noticeable difference I can speak of. My frame rate sits at its 30FPS limit most of the time, except when looking at some busy scenes - just like in the Huey. However, there's always however. Looking at the Hip from close-up external view, my FPS drops to some 25-22. Yes, I have higher FPS in cockpit than outside! Flying with another Hip in close formation, or landing next to it, same thing. Turning off the heat blur, as well as switching off all the external lights, no noticeable improvement. Only reason I can think of is a high poly count of the Mi-8 external model. Which leads me towards interesting conclusion. I can have all the fancy stuff switched on in DCS, like shadows, water reflections, heat blur, hell even mirrors, and still get decent FPS. But putting one high-poly object in front of the camera ruins my FPS no matter how low I set everything else. Isn't that weird?
