  1. I get this problem too. Don't take your feet off the pedals quickly, otherwise they tend to stick.
  2. "In the meantime, the F/A-18C Hornet is still planned but we want it to be at the same level as our A-10C." Ooh, hell yeah! That's what I wanted to hear! Thanks for the link, much appreciated.
  3. Like I said, my problem is vram, not gpu performance. I have a GTX690, but I play in 7680x1440 triple-head. As such, I'm already skirting really close to vram limits, and anything that causes the vram to fill causes a SERIOUS plummet in performance while textures are swapped. Unfortunately, these performance plummets usually tend to happen while very close to the ground. When riding that close to vram limits, anything at all that I can shut off which I don't deem "necessary" can have a big boost to the smoothness of the experience. Hence why I turned off heat bloom. Note though - overall performance in 1.2.4 seems much better than in previous versions.
  4. If the upcoming F/A-18 module is not going to be high fidelity, I think I'm gonna cry.
  5. Ha! How ironic, I nutted this one out for myself and posted it up on my blog, but it seems others were figuring it out here! http://blog.zencoffee.org/2013/05/triplehead-fov-with-dcs-world-1-2-4/ Fix was implemented for my triple-head setup (7680x1440), and works properly in A-10, Ka-50, and Flaming Cliffs 3. Also fixes the startup screen so that it's only on the middle monitor, and radio menus appear on the middle monitor instead of being split between the left edge of the viewpoint and the right (which is rather neck-wrenching). Note, if your resolution is NOT 7680x1440, you may need to edit the patch a bit. If you don't know how to use patch, you can open the diff in an editor and then just edit the files it's referencing. It should be fairly apparent what to do.
  6. I noticed they were on, and was wondering what was going on. Definitely would like to shut them off - I'm critically short on vram as it is so want anything spurious that I'm not going to see much off.
  7. Re: autopilot vs trim tabs, to the best of my knowledge, the A-10 autopilot does not maneuver the primary control surfaces of the plane at all. All the autopilot controls is the trim tabs. That's why the autopilot can't do large attitude corrections without disconnecting. Note that the reason for this is that the A-10 isn't a fly-by-wire bird. The linkages between the stick and the control surfaces are hydraulic. That's also why manual reversion actually works in the case of losing hydraulic pressure - manual reversion doesn't mess with the primary control surfaces, you're flying the trim tabs instead.
  8. Why do you wreck my happy fantasy land with such a mental image? :) EA or Activision could do nothing but wreck the flight sim niche. The depth sims that ED does just can't be replicated on a console, and to be frank, those giants care nothing for a franchise that can't be shoehorned onto a console. Gods, considering what Blizzard did to Diablo 3, I likely won't buy another Blizzard game again.
  9. Obviously lights are turned off once you fence in, but they're supposed to be put back on once you fence out. During wartime, it's arguable that lights are even more important near friendly airspace since air traffic density is often very high indeed - and with a lot of irregular flights.
  10. I use Steam on a daily basis, as do my friends. Never had any trouble with it. I have cut across my A-10 / Ka-50 installs from Steam to run in World, worked just fine.
  11. TBH, such things shouldn't be much of a consideration. They're entirely different genres, the whole lot of them. Oh, and they're all pretty cheap... Torchlight 2 is $20 ! Personally, I just put in my preorder for TL2, and I'll be buying FC3 as well when it's available.
  12. Pfft, cheater :P I never use that combo, primarily because it doesn't seem to work in Dragon's training pack missions, which is what I usually fly in. Also because I don't need it any more.
  13. Yes, a DCS-grade F/A-18C would have me buying it in a heartbeat.
  14. Monitor brightness will do almost nothing to a TrackIR's ability to pick up infrared. The spectrum coming out of the monitor doesn't have much IR in it.
  15. Sunlight is INCREDIBLY bright to an infrared camera. You don't need much sunlight at all getting into the camera's view to mess it up. I wear glasses - admittedly mine have an anti-glare coat, but still. I've never had any problem at all with my TrackIR picking up the glasses. But I do have problems if I leave an incandescent light on and one of the glass doors shut so the reflection of the light bounces off the glass and is visible in the viewfield. The bigger problem I get is when I look up a significant amount, the edge of my hat obstructs the top reflector and messes up the TrackIR. I can't really put the camera much higher. I should probably turn up the vertical sensitivity so I don't have to move my head up/down as much.
  16. Radar altimeter switch is just to the right of the EAC switch, aft of the throttle quadrant, on the LASTE panel. EGI enable (sorry I don't know the right name) switch is on the center console right in front of the stick and below the HSI. There's a button with a green triangle on it by default with "HARS" on it, a horizontal switch which should be in the "STOW" position, and next to that is "EGI". Press that when the CDU flashes 'INS NAV READY' and you've already hit the NAV button on the CDU.
  17. I always flip the CDU/EGI switches right after I get the APU generator on, so it's like the 4th thing I do (power switches, APU on and to 100%, APU gen on, CDU/EGI on). Key thing is to make sure you wait until the CDU reads 'INS NAV READY', hit the NAV switch on the CDU, make sure all your SAS switches are on, the nav mode is set to EGI, the ground radar switch is on, then you can turn on EAC.
  18. Just was thinking about it.... How do you do that? Are you in a power dive when you drop? I would have thought the drag coefficient of the plane would be much higher than the bomb so it would drop faster than you did and you couldn't hit it... Although I imagine if you're doing a power dive you might be in trouble...
  19. Turned out pretty good, the price is nice. Any idea what their international shipping charges are like? Do you find any issues with the misalignment of the gluing on the spine, or doesn't it matter in practice?
  20. Hrm. Yeah, guess you're right. I like the idea of a multirole, but thinking about it objectively, if a pilot needs to attack both ground and air targets in the one mission, someone messed up their recon :D Guess I can keep my air-to-air wants busy with FC3 and my air-to-ground with A-10C, and wait for a DCS-level multirole to come out. Thanks for the replies.
  21. Come now, no need for vitriol. I'll likely be buying FC3 anyway, to show support for the expanded Georgia map & the new missile dynamics, even if the F-15 isn't fully modelled. What I was more interested in knowing is whether I should invest the learning time on something like BMS, or if FC3 with the F-15 will fulfill my multirole desires. Course, now I've got a tough choice to make...
  22. So, I currently own Ka-50 BS2, A-10C, and I've got LOMAC sitting on the shelf waiting for FC3 to come out. I'm interested in learning to fly a multirole fighter of some type, and have a preference for the western models. Anyway, I'm wondering. I know that LOMAC and friends is the "instant action" survey sim where there's lots of planes to fly, but not the enormous depth in any one airframe that's to be found in the study sim modules like Ka-50 and A-10C. I prefer the study sims though, which is why LOMAC has stayed on the shelf. The F-15 in FC3 is supposed to be coming with a 6DOF pit and clickable cockpit. Does this mean that the F-15 is going to be the 'study' fighter of FC3? Will the F-15's cockpit be fully useable? Will the depth of simulation approach that of A-10C? IE, if I want to learn a multirole fighter, should I just grab FC3 and fly the F-15, wait for DCS: Fighter (whenever that will be coming out), or pull Falcon BMS off the shelf and learn that? I'm afraid I have no interest in the Mustang.
  23. Don't forget as well there's a little airframe attitude graphic on the bottom left of the MFCD.
  24. Probably a very silly question, but I was wondering if there's some guide for tactics when dealing with SAMs and AAA in the campaign? I know you should stay about 6000 feet so that AAA can't shoot you, but what should be done about SAMs? I have a lot of trouble locating SAMs through the TGP. Essentially I'm just slewing around looking for anything that's not a tank or a Ural. Is there a better way to find air defenses than this? Or should I just activate the SEAD flights and then just do circles out of range until they're all gone? In the same vein, how do you identify whether a missile launch is directed at you? I know that the missile warning will trigger from friendlies as well as hostile missiles. Can you assume a missile launch is non-hostile if there's no rapid pulsing sound from the RWR and there's no SAMs within close range (ie, no IR launches)?
  25. It's far more likely the casings are retained so they aren't at risk of either getting pulled into the air intakes (resulting in severe turbine damage) or striking other armaments on the plane. Considering that the A-10 originally had problems with smoke from the gun being pulled into the engines and causing issues, I dare say spent casings would ruin someone's day :D
