Thankyou!
Why would they spawn like that? Seems designed to cause trouble.

Spent the evening playing around with Air-2-Air loadouts with no issues; gun worked fine.
I then created a new mission with an Air-2-Ground loadout (the very first in the list) and for some reason the gun will not fire - I'm pretty sure I'm not missing anything.
I've attached a .trk in case anyone can figure it out.

Nope; if you actually think that then you've fundamentally misunderstood the argument, but I suspect you're just being flippant.
It's not flippant.
Your idea is for the program to somehow determine what the player is focussing on, and then blur (or erase) those things that happen to be in the way.
Even if that was desirable how could it be done?

Another factor is that we have binocular vision so when focusing on distant objects we're quite good at filtering out unnecessary or obstructive stimulus from close to our eyes; anyone who wears glasses understands this as you don't really "see" the frames unless you're actively trying to, despite them being well within your field of view. Even if you don't wear glasses, your brain removes your nose from the image your eyes feed it, despite it also occupying a significant portion of your FOV. Perhaps the best example of this is the halo in F1, where a big titanium pillar sits right in front of the driver's eyes; ostensibly a terrible idea, except your eye focuses past it and it becomes entirely unobstructive while racing
You're literally repeating the points I made earlier.

This is why I say it depends on what you consider realistic; are we (the player) a camera or a pilot? If we're a camera then the way the scene is rendered is very realistic, but I don't think we should be looking at what a camera sees, I think we should be looking at what a pilot sees.
You are conflating two different things. What a pilot can see versus what a pilot is focussing on.
I can hold my hand in front of my face and watch the TV through my fingers. It's not ideal but perfectly do-able.
Does that mean if I were to simulate this experience I just erase my hand from existence?
QuoteI think we should be looking at what a pilot sees.
I was in a dogfight last night and during that time I was paying ZERO attention to the cockpit, the wings, the clouds.
According to your scheme we should therefore not model the cockpit, wings, and clouds! This is madness.

I have a sneaking suspicion one reason we haven't yet seen a Vietnam map is because of the horsepower needed to render all that jungle.

Again this is a limitations of your VR Headset, Aerges would need to redo an entire new cockpit model to "fix" that, use DLAA or other methods as well as rendering the SIM at the correct resolution (PD slider at 1.0, and native resolution set on your VR Software)
I'm not using VR, and no other cockpit is shimmering like this.
-
Trying out the Mirage (1440p 2D not VR) and it seems a really interesting plane BUT what is with the shimmering in the cockpit?
The main culprit seems to mainly be the dashboard material, but also the bolts, cabling, and information placards all around the cockpit are shimmering like crazy.
Is there a fix for this? There's no other cockpit doing this.

The reflections on the anton canopy are simply overdone. Lookin backwards its like theyre sandblasted, because they arent transparent enough.
theres tons of wartime footage.
Yes, they had reflections, but they werent so bad. If the perspex wouldve been so bad, that would be a life threatening flaw...
Yeah, don't get me wrong - I don't want to defend canopy effects poorly implemented. God knows I've paid my dues in the Anton - I understand the issues.

LC, Slippa
Quote1. I'm almost 80 and my eyes are not what they used to be. So everything that reduces visibility puts extra strain on my eyes and brain, and reduces the fun.
QuoteWould be good to have the option to sort it out. Put it on a slider or something.
No issue with any of those.

What a camera records and what a pilot sees is all but identical - if it wasn't we wouldn't use cameras.
Those reflections aren't an artifact of GoPro - they're very real.

If you think it's what a human eye sees when it focuses on the world beyond the canopy, then they're not.
That doesn't mean the reflections aren't really there; or shouldn't be there.
Quote...pilots focus their eyes on what they're actually looking at, and that means the canopy is not in focus, blurring and diminishing the reflections to the point of insignificance.
And when you're in a dogfight the same thing happens.
When driving/racing in the rain your focus is absolutely not on the rain, spray, wipers etc; you ignore all that. In a sense you don't see it. But just because we're hardwired to ignore all that chaos obstructing our view and focus on our target doesn't mean we should therefore remove those obstructive elements.
Look at the distortion at the edges of the canopy here...
I think if ED or other devs start incorporating this kind of effect into their modules it'll be a great boost to overall realism (and look good too).
But I guarantee within one day there will be mods available to 'fix' it.
I want ED to resist the voices who would happily see the removal of every ounce of Perspex from aircraft canopies, and lean on the side of realism, which means of course we might find ourselves occasionally inconvenienced by glare/distortion/reflections.

Currently they start tuned to channel 1. Don't know why.

Would like the option to have labels available to use in a mission but OFF by default on starting the mission.
-
You need to move your virtual head forward in the cockpit. Changing FOV won't fix it.
First check that 'User Snap-View Saving' is enabled in the Misc. Options.
Then turn off any head-tracking to make sure your view is perfectly centred.
Now, while holding R_SHIFT and R_CTRL use the the keys * and / on the keypad to move your head back and forth. This should bring more info into view.
While you're there try experimenting with R_SHIFT and R_CTRL with Num_8 and Num_2 which will raise or lower your view point.
Once you're happy hit R_ALT and Numpad 0 to save the settings.

Wouldn't you like MiG-23 or Su-17/22 more?
Not more, but absolutely would love to see them.

OH-6A and UH-60L are standalone mods and using their own flight models. The VSN mods are using the Flaming Cliffs flight models and since ED has updated FM a lot of them don't work out-of-the-box anymore.
Ah, OK - thanks for the info.
-
I can't get the VSN 104 working either. It used to work fine, a couple of patches ago.
I have the OH-6A and UH-60 mods running OK, but the F-104 won't even show in the Mission Editor.

I trust you! I've snuck in an M.

Would be a perfect adversary for the F-4.
The Mig-17 and F-100 are on the way so a period-specific Mig-21 makes perfect sense for the emerging Vietnam plane-set.

No biggie, but after changing, say, V-sync or any other asterisk'd option the game asks if you want to restart but it just shuts down; you have to launch DCS again manually.

So you say reflections like this are normal and realistic?
No.
Dynamic reflections are still in their infancy and so the big red ACHTUNG sticker will probably look weird for a while (unless it's removed from the seat, or a virtual pilot is modelled to cover it)
But they are on the right track; and they are more realistic than having none at all.

Due to its relatively widespread use, its popularity and the possibility that it could stand in for a Mig-21F-13 in DCS, the commercial prospects for a J-7A module are much greater than for the J-8.
+100
Are Deka open to the idea?
-
Especially now we are flying in and out of rain regularly.
-
Look at the real thing. Reflections & distortion everywhere.
I'll never understand why people want to fly around as if they're in an open-cockpit.

[NO BUG] Gun not firing

Thanks for the explanation - I understand the dilemma.
