I just watched an onboard video the other day, and you could see how real life pilot's arms are much bigger compared to everything. In DCS you get the impression those "children" sized pilots would need to stretch in order to switch anything on overhead panel. In RL it's just a matter of reaching there a bit since it's... well, just over your head :) RL: DCS: You can just see any cockpit footage from real life and then run your Huey module. As for external model- well for one I think center dashboard is positioned way too low, the top sunglare cover should be clearly visible from the front.

When Mi-8 will come out of beta?

RED WING Simulations: NH-90
PeroperoDokkiri replied to Silver_Dragon's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Probably too early to ask for news after the last post from Red Wing which was written one month ago, but I guess I am also curious how programming is going :) Did you get a green light from ED? Do you cooperate with Airbus Helicopters in any way? Any news from ED about hoist lifting scenarios? I am really impressed that you are planning on releasing both TTR and NFH especially if you include ASW systems, I personally don't care for flying over the sea too much (just water everywhere, I would rather enjoy Barthek's textures and hills lol), but that'd be a first proper maritime helicopter sim ever. Good luck with this project, it's a must have for me :) -
LOL As for changes- I guess there are more under the hood changes, so I am just happy things are coming along nicely :) Thanks for your work once again!

So we know loading up personel and cargo have no effect on aircraft's weight, how about sling load cargo? Does it? If so, any chances to have it implemented? :) I guess those flights would have to happen in Safe Zone, but I wouldn't personally mind. After a quick research, sling loading DOES affect the weight of helicopter :) http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2466427&postcount=299 EDIT2 I almost forgot: Sometimes ATC responds too late, I think having a wind flag on FARPS would be nice for landings and takeoffs :) EDIT3 Another question not really related to Open Conflict: Is there any way to flush VRAM? I am having rather stable FPS, but I just thought after I get back to Kutasi MED and drop picked up pilots I could flush my VRAM to make sure it doesn't get full between flights.

FM homing works fine, using it every day in MP. Just make sure you turn your FM to HOMING.
-
I also have to ask fighter pilots not to show off their low level high speed flying just above Kutasi Medical Center and especially our helipads- not only you can cause a collision, but also the showoff smoke you deployed makes helicopter pilot blind, especially those who try to land after CSAR mission. I know you are cool and all, and helicopters don't deserve to be respected at all, but please. Thank you!

If you meant today, I remember you being surprised that your huey is slick and then there was a bunch of teamkill messages appearing. I dunno what happened, but it seemed strange indeed.

Yes, 229th is highly recommended!!!

Join us here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=145886 Choose MEDIC helicopter (either UH-1H or Mi-8) Use your radio menu to handle missions: F10->F9 gets you to rescue missions menu, you get a list of active calls by pressing F1. There are 3 kinds of rescue missions listed: 1 Safehouse runs- you get a list of safehouses (static locations) and number of pilots currently awaiting pickup. These are really good for beginners, I think the closest one is just about 25 km from your homebase (Kutasi Medical Center for BLUE side). 2 "Wrecks" those are human pilots that spawned chute after being shot down. Appereance of those is dependent on how the fixed wing guys perform, but in my experience you better get your Mi-8 ready, because it has 7 slots you can pickup personel into. In other words- SAR pilots get really busy, I fly pretty much every day and we are always short on MEDIC pilots ;) 3 CAP runs- if enemy player ejects too deep into your side of Conflict Zone, you can pick them up too and make them POW after they get their standard medical checkup. Please note you need TWO empty personel slots on your chopper, bedcause they are being companied by a friendly commando unit. After you pick up either of above, you get a list of "drop off airfields" with F10->F1->F2 You can also use radio navigation to help you find the way around: write "-re" followed by your objective ID for nav requencies (you can use FM, or ADF homing, both frequencies will appear on top of heading and distance). For example- let's say friendly pilot gets ejected, a message will apear telling you heading and distance to his location. Each pilot will get a "codename"- starting with PIL1, then next one will be PIL2 etc. so if you write: "-re pil1" into the chat, you will get all the information needed to either find him. When you get close to his location, he will deploy green smoke. Land next to it (or hover above it no higher than 15m, or 50 ft with forward speed below 1m/s) and pick him up with: F10->F9-F4 When you have him onboard, you can get a list of drop of airfields: F10->F9->F2 Each arfield has it code (just as those chuted pilots had- PIL1, PIL2 etc), for example Kutasi Medical Center is listed as "MED", therefore you will get all homing info with: "-re med" typed into the chat. For enemy pilots pickups you replace PIL1 with CAP1, you will note they appear exactly the same way as regular pilots do. On top of rescue missions there are supply missions that make you run supply runs you can access with: F10->F8 Check what Forward Hospital/ FARP needs what supplies, load them up and deliver. After you supply them with all they listed you will enable that place to be a drop off zone for picked up personel. That's about it. Make sure you fly low in Conflict Zone so those fighter jets don't shoot you down (Nap of the Earth profile recommended ;) ). If you have questions, ask in the thread I linked before.

Thanks Mirknir! I love to hear how things look like from your perspective! That -re AIRPORTID command is so cool! I can ADF to airports and track FM to pickup zones, great!

Sounds incredible, but I hope those more complex scenarios won't mean killing current objectives for helicopters. I mean it sounds like a lot of fun, but I am not 100% convinced there will be enough cooperation to pull it off every time- fighters to defend, attack helicopter to supress and medic helicopters to extract. I am biased since I am the last one in food chain, but I hope to be busy with other pickups (please, please, please let us have some AI wrecks back, at least just after server reset because there is not much to do for first 20- 30 minutes apart from routine flights involving safehouses/ field hospitals) when waiting for a complex objective to be ready for slicks to approach and finish the job :) It just occured to me- why haven't we came up with randomized troop insertions before? It could be small scout/ infiltration units for now, but if those more sophisticated objectives come to live, we could have some infantry units fighting within the objective area on the ground. Anyways it's up to you Mirknir! BTW- right now server resets every 3,5h, right? Any chances to have that time increased?

I see. That's a bummer, because even if 10 of those could be used as priority all we could get is 10 presets for first 10 calls- not worth implementing. Maybe using R-863 presets makes sence, but that was not my main goal. Anyways, thanks!

Thank you for that answer, good news then :) I will try -re MED command, didn't know about that one! I will try to prepare a list of freqs you could setup in the mission after I take appropate notes. Thanks once again! EDIT: After a quick glimpse into DCS it will be really easy to set up appropate frequencies, So R-863 could be used for COMMS with ATC and traffic, it uses 20 channels (!) so it is more than enough for each side. As for R-828 it can be used for homing easily when coupled with ARK UD, and that's pretty much how it works in real life! This way we don't need to keep tuning our ARK-9 which we can use for Airport/ FARP/ Hospitals homing (remember it let's you swich between 2 frequencies, so you could have your home airport on one, and then keep changing second frequency channel when needed!). Long story short we can make it really realistic, the only problem I see is the limitation of 10 preset channels that R-828 uses, I am not sure how many FM frequencies does wreck script use at the time, but if it is more than 10 we might need to keep using ARK-9 from time to time. I don't know if CAP shares the same frequencies "poll" as PIL events do, but if they don't we can stick to 10 PIL events and preset them for R-828. Also ATM I don't know how to set FM presets, only MHz works, but events trigger both FM and MHz, so we are fine ; So my question is: How do FM homing frequencies work for PIL and CAP events? Do RED and BLUE share the same frequencies (I bet they don't), what is the frequency range for those FM poll? Here is a simple Editor screenshot showing how easy it is to modifty channels presets: UH-1H's UHF AN/ARC-51 also can be setup easily: Not sure if that's usefull, I pretty much never used that radio LOL (Dustoff- what do you think?).

Dammit. I just wrote a long ass post, and it dissapeared because of token expire :/ I will write a shorter post then: Could we get some message popup when getting close to pickup zone? I believe it could be really simple trigger working at the same moment smoke pops up- "6 KM to the LZ, Sir", or something. Those little things help with immersion IMHO. Now for more complex topic- I was wondering if we could give some more love to Mi-8. It is a quicker and more capable helicopter out of two med helicopters on Open Conflict with 7 personel slots and higher cruise speed, also it performs very well on hight altitutes. Yesterday I was picking up a pilot after a pilot in mountains (about 4000 ft and up, all pickups on slopes so I had to do hover pickups) and I was regreting not choosing Mi-8, especially when other wrecks started to appear nearby and I was already full with Huey. What I mean by more love for Mi-8 are channels preset setups for both NAV and COMMS radios: Mi-8 has couple radios with ARK-UD used in real life for SAR missions (useless ATM on Open Conflict), but even ARK-9 which is pretty much the only nav radio used on Open Conflict because it can use individual frequences can also rely on preset channels. We could get for example 127.500 and 134.000 on top of couple more for R- 863's presets, and some NDB's and VOR's for other NAV radios. I could help you with figuring this out, all you had to do is to simply enter frequences I would provide into Mi-8 tabs in editor. Another thing is navigation itself- I would really appreciate if we could get more radio beacons, especially for Kutasi Medical Center (I have to use Kutasi Airport's radio beacons to navigate to my home base, wchich is about 10 km W off it I believe). I really like how FM homing works, I wish we could use onboard NAV equipement some more!

-Aircraft needs to be under a certain AGL altitude (for now 15m) I remember hovering above a forest trying to pick up a pilot, but I was getting the "you are not low enough" message. I was hovering just above the trees, not sure if there is a bug, or if we need to have those 15m increased a bit ;)

He means author of the mod accepts donations, that might trigger mods the way they went over the board with Barthek. But I personally wouldn't worry, there are more mods accepting donations like (Aires for example) for a long time without any consequences, so it was probably just a single incindent with Barthek. Maybe they didn't like his mod for some reason LOL.

Another great flight today! Finally no nasty surprises, just workhorse flights- Field Hospital resupply mission, and then 3 CSAR flights including one fellow Medevac pilot that either got shot down or crashed his chopper about 10 km from our home FARP. I remember seeing him taking off couple minutes before I did, so that made me extend my session so I get him back home. Picking up Medevac pilot (I am sorry, I forgot your username) Back home at FARP. Engines shot down after cooldown, made sure to refuel her for next session! Also 3 picked up pilots we brought back onboard got moved to the hospital you can see in the shot to get checked and what not. EDIT: Another Mi-8 flight, transported some personel from FARP to Kutasi Airport. Airport was quiet busy with one A-10 doing emergency landing, so I hovered by the airstrip to provide some support if needed. Pilot pulled the landing off just fine, so apart from blocked runway everything was OK! Just one shot from landing pad after engine shutdown:

Any news concerning the still-missing heat damage model?
PeroperoDokkiri replied to msalama's topic in DCS: UH-1H
Yeah, the module seems to be kind of left off unfinished, hope Belsimtek gives us some love. -
As for the Mi- 8 skin I completely understand! Frankly speaking I expected such answer :) IMHO Naval SAR skin looks better (yeah I know we are not flying naval ops), but I personally will probably make JSGME to swap default skins for something different, so let's see what other guys think. As for two factions fighting over a downed pilot- it is a nice idea, but I hope that would be a separate task from what we have right now. I fly slick after all LOL. Will do some more Mi-8 flying today, need to get used to that Russian systems! Cheers! Just made JSGME mod that swappes Police livery with German SAR one, so I'm good :)

I forgot to mention something: As I was flying Mi-8 I was surprised that MEDIC slot used civilian skin. Would it be possible to have it switched to something more appropate? My recommendation: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/87ia7yk006ui317/AABNLnYYNdiyhlTOzL8R0io9a/MI8_German%20SAR.rar?dl=0

Wow, what a great session I had tonight :) I just did my first Mi-8 multi flight, succesfully picked up downed pilot (for some reason my R-863 stopped working after I requested a hover check, but nevermind) and flew back. No problems there. Then I decided to do a quick Huey flight, as I was warming up engines we got Player Eject prompt, and I flew to pick him up. About 3 minutes from LZ we got another call not far away, so I picked up first pilot and headed to second one (FM homing FTW). Gues what... We got another call 20 km from second pickup zone, as I was RTB. As I was flying by DustOff=3=6 and his escorting jet we agreed that I should go and pick up that 3rd pilot. Coach warned me about AA in the town, so I decided to fly really low Nap ot the Earth profile, but as I approached the town where Coach was waiting I spotted a red smoke on top of a hill. I tried to evade and planned to try different approach, but as I was flying away hoping not to get noticed I started taking fire. I was facing back to AA, so personel didn't get hit, but most of instruments went down. I decided to land and investigate what's going on since I noticed a loss of power, and since the terrain was uneven I made a decision to land on a roof. About 1- 2 minutes later we got engine fire, so I did a emergency engine shutdown. I reported everything on the chat, and everyone went for a nice SERE. Weather was not very nice, I really appreciated that warm Huey at that point :) Some picks: That landing was a good call, would have to autorotate with an engine fire otherwise. "She is done for today, dude" Going SERE, nice view but what a bad day for a walk Thanks once again for this server! Having a blast every time!

It seems your ffb x axis are off. I am pretty sure there is a FFB tweak option in controlers settings inside DCS.
