Damn, I was away from DCS for a while, the only reason I came back is to fly some Open Conflict CSAR... Sad news, but memories of those UH-1H flights will always be there ;) Thank you Miknir for your great job, I really wish you all the best in your private life! THANK YOU! EDIT: A question- where do you guys fly now? I am looking for a server with random transport missions for helicopters.

Vote for the OH-58D for president !
PeroperoDokkiri replied to Shadow KT's topic in Polychop-Simulations
I'd rather get UH-60 ;) But I would be happy for you guys if you got Kiowa! -
You can do just that now. You don't need to use weapon systems at all if you feel they're too much. I personally don't care if 30$ civilian version gets released, I wish Polychop all the best, so I wish everyone bought it. I just don't think that will happen.
-
My 2 cents: Civilian Gazelle will not sell well, not for 30$, not for 15$. It is just not a very appealing module to sell. I won't get it, and I am really into helicopters (in fact all modules I own are helicopters!). I understand that may seem like a good idea since it would take a fracture of resources compared to developing a module from zero, but I bet it would be very bad received by community. I know you don't want to hear about module ideas at this moment, so I would just say- check what modules are mostly anticipated by us, which can be developed with least costs etc. I think unarmed helicopters are probably a good idea. Good luck!

Airframe and front dash wobbling at high speeds
PeroperoDokkiri replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in DCS: UH-1H
I use force trim, and with FFB Tool it works perfect. Ingame trim seems to be way too sensitive, pretty much useless. Huey is not a heli designed to fly with hands off, but if you need to check map, or tune a radio then with a right trim you can let go of controls for a while. In flight you will need just a very fine control changes, and those will be enough. -
Yes, autorotations are so important. I like to setup a scenario with an engine failure at random time. DCS is great for that kind of training. As for my tips for landing- practice, that's it. Make sure you don't descent too quickly (it's all metric in this helicopter!). Also practice controlling rudder as it gets little bit violent as soon as you losse ETL. Reference your landing spot with a spot on the windsheld, and keep it more or less there during approach. Also go slow and avoid rapid de acceleration, keep it smooth. You will learn how to be more dynamic with practice.

No UH-1H :(

I was asking for no.1 for a long time, of course having some 3d soldiers onboard would be awesome too!

Thanks for posting those answers! Really helpfull (I fly with FFB Force Trim in DCS because it lets me take my hand off the cyclic and use keyboard, tune radios or whatever, and I don't feel like passing my controls over to AI copilot lol). Also does anyone know what would be your typical cruising altitude in a real UH-1H?

I'm so gonna enjoy those! I enjoy flying workhorse missions, will fly all of them when I get a while :) THANK YOU!!!!! I just read the briefing, it's done exceptionally well! Really immersing, and nicely wrote overall. Can't wait for weekend! EDIT2 Do you think it would be possible to generate a somehow random location of a victim to produce high volume of SAR missions, or CASEVAC/ MEDEVAC missions? I remember really enojoying flying these kind of missions in Search And Rescue series (SAR: Vietnam was ofc my favourite one ;)

Damn, I don't know what to say. THANK YOU, I never knew "progressive trim" works like that, LOL. SIMFFB FTW!
-
Hi! Thanks for answer! I love SIMFFB, but it is only usefull as Force Trim, it doesn't allow for any hat adjustments (bummer). The reason why I need hat to fine tune force trim is because I use G940, and I have a slight FFB "losenes" if I simply press Force Trim button (like a 2cm diameter area, so when I let the joysick go it doesn't stay ecaxtly when I left it). When I press Hat trim left/right fwd/bckward couple times, the joystick's FFB gets a bit tighter and keeps it in place. It is really usefull on long hauls, especially if I need to check map, or tune radios. Cheers!

Hi! I know IRL Huey just have Force Trim button (and release ofc), but since we are flying a sim, I like to tweak my Force Trim (I use FFB) with Trim Hat. However it is really tricky, because it is too sensitive. For example pressing LEFT Hat Switch the cyclic even for a moment moves cyclic enough to make a helicopter bank a lot. Would it be possible to make that trimming move a bit slower? It works the same with Mi-8 BTW. Thanks!

Actually, I have to correct myself. I wish we got a working winch with whole system for SAR operations.
-
+1 Also having a payware "DLC" for Huey, for example UH-1J or something would be really cool. Even having different variants like high skid, working Emergency Floatation System or something else would be awesome. If it doesn't happen it is still my most favourite sim as it is due to exceptional FM and overall quality.

I hoped someone else notices it :)

GTM preview (ground textures)
PeroperoDokkiri replied to YoYo's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
I like both, but for helicopter pilots Barthek's textures are hands down better, sorry. -
Recommended curvature and saturation settings?
PeroperoDokkiri replied to Kornskydiver's topic in DCS: UH-1H
He was right. That's what my settings work like after you change Saturation Y from 83 to 90 (I am currently at 87, will move 90 next week). You can disregard curvature too, and make it linear. -
I just refrain from updating atm, I heard you need to reset your settings (including input mapping) to make dcs work. Too much hussle!
-
Recommended curvature and saturation settings?
PeroperoDokkiri replied to Kornskydiver's topic in DCS: UH-1H
saturation y gives you less ingame motion in exchange for less sensitivity. Let's remember RL cyclic travel range is much wider than our joysticks :) If you wanted to move a joystick LESS, then I guess you could play with Saturation X leaving Saturation Y on 100. But that can make flying really, really tricky. -
Recommended curvature and saturation settings?
PeroperoDokkiri replied to Kornskydiver's topic in DCS: UH-1H
I am using slightly modified G940, here are my cyclic axis settings: I am slowly working torwards full range of motion, I will be setting curve from 83 to 85 tomorrow, next week 88 etc. As for collective I am using pretty much linear curves. My pedals have very short travel range, so I have to work around that :/ -
Your VRAM is getting full, goes to RAM. That causes shuttering. Lower your video settings to get rid of them.
-
EXACTLY! That looks perfect. Actually even if units don't appear near the helipad we can hover over them to simulate hoist extraction :)
-
How about an oilrig extraction? If you could script a fire on random oilrig, those are always hard to land on ;) Ships would be just as great, even if you don't give us helipads we could do hovering pickups. I am sure you will figure something out!
