  1. @Mirknir I personally wouldn't worry about unit system. It is not such a problem for me at least, and also if I decide to switch from let's say Huey to Mi-8 for a session, I can do it without looking into preferences and such. And I say that as Huey pilot, and this helicopter can be really overwhelming for single person trying to fly, navigate, use radio and pay attention to surroundings, pop-ups etc. Let's see what other people say, but once again- unit system works fine IMHO.
  2. @acdelta57 I was not hating at all, but after you called idea of randomized pilot rescue missions "lame", and commented a changelog with a " :( " I just pointed out that there is no reason to take your feedback seriously. Your last comment was actually really nice, you explained what and why, and that's what critical feedback should look like, that's it. As for a warning system- it's down to personal preference. I like the idea a lot, because it is realistic IMHO, and at the same time while it is not an equalizer in any way, it helps a bit otherwise helpless slicks. You still have so many things to worry about on the ground, and navigating the damn thing (in RL your copilot would help with both flying and navigating, not to mention working systems for you) that having radar service letting you know that there is a fighter you can do nothing about seems fair. I personally am flying NOE profile pretty much 100% of the time I enter CZ, and I won't suddenly start landing my helicopter in there to wait for enemy fighter to leave. @tangoGSC Try talking to pilots on server chat, I've seen Gazelle flying difficult rescue mission together with couple Hueys, they seemed to have lot's of fun together. I believe Gazelle ran out of fuel and had to RTB, not sure what happened to those brave Huey pilots.
  3. Don't worry about him Mirknir ;) Your server is awesome, if I am flying, I am flying DCS. If I am flying DCS, I am flying on Open Conflict. Great job, lot's of fun. I like all the changes you're making!
  4. Changelog looks really, really nice! Thank you!
  5. Still he was right about the importance of that quote in our discussion.
  6. I'm against overprotecting slicks too, I got shot down once, but I fly really low noe profile since then, and never had problems with jets since then ;) That being said, adding "medic helicopter" as a category of kills would be cool. On the side note- transport helicopters are never a focus of a MP server in DCS, we shouldn't expect the balance to have us in focus guys. Let's just accept that some of us will get shot, that's the way it is. On the side note- any chance of FARPs getting FM transmiters, or something so we can home them to navigate? I am trying to think of a way to navigate in MP sessions, and since Hueys don't even get a Doppler radar Mi-8 has it is tricky without a printed map.
  7. OK, thanks. Random ejections would just change how often we woud get calls, that's it- I don't see anything lame about it, but that's just me ;) So I more or less know how to plan my flights, but is there any way to make waypoints on F10 map, so I could see it on my kneeboard at all? I know there is an external map application here on the forums, so I might give it a go, but do you have any tips acdelta57? @Mirknir Thanks a lot, that's helpfull!
  8. Btw. I never fly jets, so I am curious how things look from their perspective- if a helicopter flights really low nap of the earth flight, do fighter's radars detect it? If not, how low do we (medevac's) stay to be safe? Second question- I know we currently have safehouses which are not random in location, and we have chuted pilots that are randomized, but they appear only when a player ejects. Is there a way to implement more random locations for pickups? Waiting for players to eject can take time, and flying to the same safehouses will get borring with time I guess. Another question- out of curiousity: does the cargo/ humans onboard affect helicopter's weight? I remember picking up personell and some cargo at the same time and having pretty much all slots full, but I didn't notice any change in handling.
  9. I think Starway could possibly make more money with donation option. He won't have to share his income with ED that way, and community seems to be really supportive to him IMHO.
  10. We got other sar helicopter pilots shot down by fighter pilots (easy target after all, always the same xcuse "I didn't know it was a helicopter" etc), afaik no penality whatsoever was applied, however that was before Skynet v2.4.1 update.
  11. Will test tomorrow, but it seems reasonable in theory IMHO :) Thanks!
  12. We totally need to do a Gazelle gunship- Huey slick flights one day, guys!
  13. Thank you very much! @AG-51_Razor Sorry, I wasn't clear, I thinking about generic Vietnam era paint scheme, which has nothing to do with Flat Iron theme indeed! Anyways, this repaint is beautiful, deserves to be included with DCS!
  14. [ame] [/ame] Here is another example of aircraft commander sitting on the left.
  15. @AG-51_Razor Yes, white liveries were used commonly, but I saw some green ones too http://www.fireballmodels.info/images/FMD-15_3.jpg . The only real life photos are from nowdays, so that's all I have ;) As for generic medevac you're 100% right, maybe the upper nose could get black paint though.
  16. Skulleader thank you very much for you help! Take your time, much appreciated!
  17. Sorry for gravedigging, but I cannot find this skin (unles the first post is the lastest version). Any chance for reup?
  18. Pilot can fly left seat if he wants to. Robert Mason did that sometimes because you have a better visibility from left seat. I never considered it to be a problem, I remember first mission in official campaign also had you flying on the right seat while getting commands from left seated commander. Never seen anyone complain about that before. It is a matter of getting directions and commands while being a pilot. I'd say if there is more people complaining, then maybe Wavehopper could change text lines to make them sound like it was copilot helping out, not someone in command. I personally never thought there is a problem TBH ;)
  19. @Flagrum +1! Beautiful mod, looks amazing!
  20. There is a charm to Huey. It has relatively simple systems, but handling itself can be challenging! No fancy nav systems, just map and compass assisted with a clock, little bit of help from radio beacons and that's it. At least Mi-8 has Doppler radar that you can measure distance with! Autopilost means "passing controlls over copilot", but otherwise you have to have your hands on controlls all the time. It is a very rewarding experience, and I am having a great time since the first day they let us fly it in DCS. Welcome onboard :)
  21. We are not taling about height, we are talking about SCALE. If you say "everything is allright", those are just some middle school pilots, and you have Sumo fighters flying real life helicopters", then that can be said both ways. @NeilWillis I already did much more than you ever did in this thread. I did a comparison following your advice ("Try looking at the Belsimtek UH-1H using the same sight lines, and do a real comparison."), I even explained why your arguments are fantasy based, and all your remarks were impressions, and had absolutely no empirical data to support anything said. If you want to produce any worthwhile evidence to support your claim, you'll need to do a hell of a lot more than just say "Both the real examples are viewed from below, and therefore the pilots look larger". Finally you wrote "Given that Belsimtek know the precise dimensions of the UH-1H, and the average height of a human being, I have a feeling they took the time to ensure they matched". So now you claim, that Belsimtek doesn't make mistakes? Should we close whole bug section of their forums? EDIT: Long story short- You say it's a matter of line of sight, you ask for comparison, I deliver. Then you say such comparison doesn't matter, and actually no research does because there are all kinds of people. Yet you want scientific research from me (I am under no obligation to follow that request, I just wanted Belsimtek to see this topic, they won't fix the issue just for my amusement anyways). Cheers @decipher Well, try to see pilots silhouette in shadow. They are much bigger than in DCS-.
  22. Just finished campaign. Had a blast! I really like how there are no "fireworks" and cheesy plot twists. Just straight forward workhorse everyday flying. Reminds me good time I had flying old Search and Rescue: Vietnam MedEvac. I just noticed you plan to do more missions, I can't wait man! Thanks once again!
  23. Viewing from below not only doesn't make pilot look larger, but actually would move a cockpit more towards the centre of camera, so he would look smaller as the front cockpit panel would cover him more. In other words if you look at something from below and use a very extreme 3points perspective, then top vanishing point can disort things a lot, but the object would have to be much above it's horizon line, and not only that IT WOULD MAKES THINGS SMALLER, NOT BIGGER. The photos I posted had been taken with a very ordinary camera lense, no such distortion can be observed (whole helicopter would need to be disorted, and it is not). I finally did a comparison, I tried to match the angle as well as I could, but I believe game uses different lense than photos (vanishing points are at different distances), so it's really difficult (I actually had to zoom out a lot hence crappy resolution I had to upscale). I see the scale is off with my naked eye, but here is what I came with: Of course I couldn't be perfect, but the issue can be seen clearly IMHO. I actually think there might also be an issue with airframe itself, but it'd cause a shitstorm, so I will not touch that subject :P here is an example of extreme 3p perspective: https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EvkWnx6wjj4/Uy7yAKnOcUI/AAAAAAAADkw/s8s0i6VfUQE/s3200/draw+objects+3p+54kkk.jpg
