I'm been flying on ww2 servers lately and there are planes warping and glitching ,makes it almost impossible to shoot with accuracy . I've seen other players say the same thing. Maybe ED is working on 2.5 and remedy the problem with that version ?

Tips and help needed on low speed fighting and flying
otto replied to Little_D's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
I'm only talking for myself but i really like it now .For a K4 i tking it's accurate.I don't know if you tried it before 1.5.4 when the FM or controls sustained some changes but it wasn't pretty to fly before that. And the really early version would climb like hell but horrible to control in a turn.Still you could so some fun things with every version of it ,even the eary versions so i always liked this plane. About control curves : sometimes i use 0 mostly 7 or 9 ,sometimes i go as high as 17. The more you go up the worse the controls become when trying to do fast moves like in a scissor. You could also try playing with a few values for the trim tabs in the options menu. -
Thanks for posting your opinion everybody.

Look man this octane argument is just pointless. This is just my perspective, but some people i've shot down without mw50, go to the forum and post that it's impossible to get a kill on 109s because they have 1945 configuration :D . Of course it would make a difference to get 25lbs spit but it will not turn you into an ace overnight and i'm sure ED heard this 100 times by now and it's getting really really old and boring hearing the same argument that goes on and on. Again this is just my perspective but i'm fine with any 109 from any year. I'm sure you realize that LW had a lot less planes in the late war, a lot less fuel, untrained pilots. It's just impossible to simulate that. Maybe the allies had better propeller planes because germans tried to develop jet planes. But even If you get fancy fuels for allied side i don't really care what fuel i get and if i get a 262 or not.Like i posted before no matter what you have the grass will always be greener on the other side.

Which would you choose ? F104 Yak38 Su7

109 vs spitfire was always my favourite fight ,it's even fun if i loose sometimes.Because in a 109 vs a spitfire you need to pull something out of the hat to win.Depends on skill ,inspiration at that moment, luck. My fight vs Exellent Ai was certainly fun: 3TERd2grwz8 I was thinking of buying the Saab Viggen but now i'm thinking of buying the spitfire too.

Your best 109 replays - Post them here!
otto replied to Charly_Owl's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
3TERd2grwz8 Late last night, my first turnfight vs the ai Spitfire was a lot of fun.I tried to turn while keeping optimum level of energy,at the edge of blacking out. Got 3*30 mm hits on it and considered that a kill (vs a human player with better damage model it would be). I didn't use mw50 and the fight was instinctive but i don't remember using flaps. -
You mean he lied about being a successful businessman (what he did with Cessna license ) ,politician, book writer , fighter pilot ? I don't like him either but many people hate and envy him because of those things. And also hate him for congratulating the Argentinian pilots in the war of the Falklands campaign.Which you can imagine is controversial after flying for RAF.And accused him of all kinds of crap that proved to be untrue like warcrimes in the Cap Arcona sinking for example.Which he had nothing to do with. And the list goes on and on.

about the book. I remember that in the chapter "Radar at dawn" he talks about how the better turning spitfire helped him win vs a 109 that had energy advantage on him. He also talks how he got shot down by a fw190 ace and that he made a childish mistake. So Ala13 you didn't read the book because he wasn't really showing off . What he writes about he's squadron is probably the truth but In the end Closterman was not a historian so what he writes about Walter Nowotny for example is not accurate and it probably what he heard or read in some newspaper at the time . In the end no matter what airplane you fly sometimes the grass is greener on the other side.

I see all contacts about well or as bad.Was easier for me in previous versions. Below two 109's chasing a p51 in MP. I started chasing the 109's and than realized my mistake. From left to right a 109 a d9 and a p51. From 15 km in SP mission. The picture above is from a track from openbeta version 58891 . S ! I tested both Mustang and Starway land tiles or repaint .I think Starway might be better for spotting. Viz-1-1.trk

There is a mod out there for 30 mm tracers https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=135841 but if you use it you can't use mw50 if i remember corectly.

I'm not saying it's not a good dogfigher but some of the 109's charateristics aren't that impressive. In a flat scissors the controls are delayed and i can't really use twitch reflexes to change direction fast.I'm not saying the real plane wasn't like that .But it's like trying to dribble someone with a football with mud up to your ankles. And the pilot blacks out at 6,5 G or someting .I can't surprize my opponent with any king of fast maneuvering because i'm blocked between the control problem and the G. PS: I fly the plane because it looks cool. That's also true for the other planes i fly.

On top of that if you're trying to fly at the egde of blacking out the control delay might send you into darkness.I don't think it's a cake walk. PS: I fly the plane because it looks cool. That's also true for the other planes i fly. Also in a p47 i can shoot a 109 down or damage it at 3 times the range that a 109 can damage me.

About the 109 vs Spitfire fight. You don't need a team to defeat a 109.It's verry possible to win 1 to 1 fights by using energy traps. That's by fooling the enemy pilot flying above in the energy fighter with a gentile turn that gets tighter and tighter as it gets near and tries to get a shooting angle. So if you succeed than he bleeds tons of energy this way and becomes very vulnerable. Than of course who ever can deduce the enemy energy state, or who ever shoots better wins. It's the classic angles fighter vs energy fighter. There is no predefined winner here.

What is the possibility of a BoB scenario.
otto replied to hnbdgr's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Yes lets get those planes first , the spit 14 , thunderbolt and then discuss the planes from BOB ,ww1 or the midle ages :D. -
Wanting a sim to be as hard as possible doesn't make it as realistic as possible.I would say that playing il2 46 with the stick i used to play it the first time is more difficult than playing DCS with a quality stick. Also when the 109 Fm changed it made it easier to control on the edge of the stall. So sometimes easy means more realistic.

A mig 23 is balance enough for me.

Apart from the fact that i can see really well in real life also: -Mostly trial and error with AA settings, colors ,contrast + lots and lots of practice and patience.I don't go to lower altitude because i want to get into a fight quickly . -My monitor has great colors ,great contrast, 4k etc.30 inch .It's really pricey but i got one with 3 small schratches on the surface for a cheap price. The bad part is my pc is not that great and i can't even think about using 4k.With 4k i can see even better. -P51s are bigger than 109 and the list goes on. -I tried playing Il2 recently and i can't spot anything .Takes time to get used to it.

I also lost track of my target lots and lots of times.+This is edited footage just shows my successes . @Integrals 22 is too small. But 55 i would say is far too big .Use something in between but look for great colors, contrast, blacks, monitors for photo editing and such .

Looks ike this: Certainly in first one it's quite obvious i didn't use it.Also MIn 1.12 look at the mw50 indicator.Min 3.50 Look how far i dropped the flaps to slow down don't think the mw50 was usefull on that one also. Around the time i got this kills i've flown at least 80% of the time without it.The flight model was different at the time and i flown without it for lots of reasons: -because plane was a little lighter without it and i was under the impression that it makes the plane easier fly on the edge of the stall that way. -the propeller torque was huge with mw50 on and it made the plane more difficult to handle when doing hammerhead turns, when flying on the edge of the stall ,etc . -I wanted to see if boost or no boost would make a difference. -It was fun . With current flight model it's useful to have mw50,yes . I could deny that but i'm being honest . I also think it's fair to say the fact that you don't have 72" boost available is balanced by the fact that you use far less fuel than an 8th airforce p51 use on an average mission.I could also take far less fuel because i don't need 100% for any mission on any server(because distances are short) and make my 109 far lighter also.So it's all relative.
-
It's true what you say. Probably the biggest problem right now is Netcode.109 flight model is not that bad at the moment but when i sometimes dive from above with the 109 and the target plane flies faster than it should for a few meters(a kind of warping) it's just enough to make really precise deflection shooting very hard and frustrating.
-
That's the real problem .I don't mind a 72" merlin .I don't mind a more reliable engine. But where do you draw the line ?
