He should fly DCS and practice. Otherwise he could shoot he's own 6 off :D.

That was ze hairi's post i found on the web. :D I use 2*pi radians=360 degrees and Cross-multiplication.
-
Depends on personal preference .I like the fw A a lot more than the d9.Some would prefer to fly d9 . Same with ww2 109 pilots. I would say the g14 would be the best for me.

600 kph = 91 deg/sec (1.6rad) - peak value for DVL evaluation 109F2 .

I compared the roll rate of the 109 in game to p51.Which should be similar at certain speed: 109 G: "The roll rate is very good and very positive below about 250 mph. Above 250 mph however the roll starts to heavy up and up to 300 or so is very similar to a P-51. After that it's all getting pretty solid and you need two hands on the stick for any meaningfull roll rates. Pitch is also delighful at 250 mph and below. It feels very positve and the amount of effort on the control column needed to produce the relevant nose movement seems exactly right to me. The aircraft is perfectly happy carrying out low-level looping maneuvers from 300 mph and below. Above 300 mph one peculiarity is a slight nose down trim change as you accelerate. The rudder is effective and if medium feel up to 300. It becomes heavier above this speed but regardless the lack of rudder trim is not a problem for the type of operations we carry out with the aeroplane." - Mark Hanna of the Old Flying Machine Company flying the OFMC Messerschmitt Bf 109 G (Spanish version) P51 roll rate in game is 5-5.3 seconds .As far as i can tell should be more like 4 seconds at 300 mph. 109 roll rate is at least 6 seconds and should be closer to p51 at speeds lower than 300 mph.

K4 was standard for JG26 starting from mid november 1944 . Don't know about other squadrons.
-
I knew that roll rate for the k4 was about 4.5 seconds at 200-250 miles/hour or slower .Without rudder. Regardless of speed i can't roll it quicker than 6 seconds or so in game.Again without rudder. Is this just me ? "Roll performance is similar to a Hurricane or elliptical wing tipped Spitfire. A full stick roll through 360 degrees at 460 kph [=285 mph] takes 4 to 4.5 seconds without using rudder, and needs a force of around 20 lbf. " - Dave Southwood, test pilot. This is probably E4 but AFAIK difference in roll rate between Emil and Kurfurst is minimal . There was a diagram on ww2 aircraft performance with lots of roll rates but couldn't find 109 on it. Should be a little worse than Full wing spitfire 9 (3.8 4 seconds) Afaik. Is this just me guys?

You might be more experienced than me in the p51. So it's possible that you're right . But there is one other thing that is " wrong" with the Ai is that i's impossible for me to get shot down by 109 or d9. Very easy to defeat in scissors but then the 109 climbs too well with low energy.Just IMHO of course.
-
The d9 i can shoot down with ease. But you're right about the Ai 109k4.It is very difficult to shoot down in a head to head equal energy fight. I can do it but the way the Ai 109 keeps climbing in low energy situations is superhuman IMHO .Ai improvements are being made as far as i know.So might be fun in the future.

It's possible that it doesn't explode. But it does burn.Just like vodka burns. Something that's missing though is planes exploding when you hit the engine.I mean an immediate violent explosion. Not 100% of times .But this should sometime happen. And would be really spectacular: oRmT7T4LPI4?rel=0&start=96&end=110 I hope the moderators don't mind. The old il2 is a dead game and i'm only trying to improve DCS. There's no question these explosions happened because there are videos and pilot testimony. -
The p51 needs most patience to bee good with. There are a lot of p51's that fly at just a few hundred feet of altitude. How can you spot a plane below you if you fly like that ? Or even worse in formations so close that 99% of their attention is directed towards keeping that formation so i end up shooting both down(There's the aerobatic server for that).Or even worse than that some fly one in front of the other. Lately the whole fun part for me was to educate my patience and trying to spot targets as far as i can . People fly at higher altitude for 10-15 minutes and than go low just because they are bored and in a desperate need of some action when they should keep their altitude advantage at all cost. For some getting kills is the only motivation. My motivation is to fly with professionalism because that is a reword in itself.

Invoking forum rules are above the first amendment in the US constitution for a US citizen is really mature ;). Means more to me to tell the truth than be "mature" .
-
Forum rules matter only if they don't infringe international law.Look at Vernor v. Autodesk, Inc .

A fw 190A from 1943 would be so cool .I would pootle around with it and shoot lots and lots of p51 with 150 boost .

That's not true at all. If you shoot a mw50 tank, fuel tank on a 109 it should blow up or start a fire.Sometimes after a few shots . It doesn't. If you shoot a radiator on a plane. The engine should overheat . It doesn't. If you shoot a fuel tank full of holes the pane should be out of fuel after a short while. If i shoot a plane from the front and below with the 30mm cannon (according to historical tests i should have a 27% chance of a one shot kill). And it over 90% of cases it's the structure of the plane that fails. I never got a one shot structure kill with that cannon. One shot kills are 90% of the time the prop governor that fails or i hit the engine directly. In real life 30mm cannon killed the structure of the planes in 90 of cases when shooting fighters and started fuel fires in 90 of cases when shooting bombers. In game 90 % of the time i get engine kills. I know the devs know this.It does't give me any pleasure to write this. -
The Spitfire - clipped wings or not?
otto replied to flare2000x's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
I like to fly clipped wings more. But every person probably has their own preference. So if both versions would be available at some point that would be for the best . -
I'm disappointed that the spitfire is not a 25lbs version so if it's one of the "best" no 25lbs versions if fine by me. But i'm a blunt guy and: my c++ simulation shows.. is just an empty argument .
-
Not that it's a topic that i know much about. But there's no whey to know if your C++ simulation is correct .
-
Thinking how crappy your plane is and having success while flying that plane are things that contradict each other in my opinion. Hadwell in a Mig21 vs f15 .Mig 21 is better that's why he gets kills ;) .

I fly the 109 because it's pretty :D. Doesn't matter how bad or good it is. If i had a pair of quality rudder pedals i think the 190 would be a more efficient "killer" . But the stiffening of the controls(a disadvantage and an advantage in my case) makes it easier to fly the 109 without rudder pedals at all. -
The fact that you don't have a 75 hg mustang is a disadvantage for many. For me personally makes no difference if i fly with mw50 or without Now because of practice. Also if you set your y curb you are more stable in turn fighting , smaller chance to stall, it negates a lot of the 109 turn advantage : [ame] [/ame] You can't do that in the 109, you need to use 100 because otherwise controls lock a lot quicker.
-
So you only killed AI planes ? It's not that difficult to kill with the p51 just that you need to be more patient than with the german planes, climb to a higher altitude and always attack with an altitude advantage.
-
Can you post a video ?

Your best 109 replays - Post them here!
otto replied to Charly_Owl's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
Usually 3-4 seconds but if i think i'm overshooting i may press more and if i'm too slow i will retract flaps. It's also crucial at what angle you choose to dive. It's not very easy :D . -

wZlguXL5JuE Most 109 kills without mw50 ,with idle throttle and combat flaps (Because controls get locked very easy when flying fast). I've practiced on seeing targets from great height for hours on end . It will not matter if i fly a k4 or a G2 from 1942 when booming them from far above.
