  1. Typhoon for me. -Sharpe
  2. My suggestion: Add the following details to your post: I fly: X airframes I fly during: These times I speak: These languages I am: X year's old For my part, if you are looking for a UK based VFS then you really cant go far wrong with Shrek Sqn. Which is just as well as I think they are now the only UK time zone English speaking VFS out there atm - well, its an approximation of English anyway ;). Contact WC: Ogreman or Tin Tin or Big Newey. Or just visit their website and go on their TS (they are very friendly to new people regardless of flight skills/time in sim). -Sharpe
  3. Ok SS thanks, I find it hard to keep up with bug reports (I dont tend to post/notice them). Good luck with it all :) -Sharpe
  4. I am getting a consistent fault look left (along a horizontal axis) where the bottom lip of the canopy/cockpit 'jumps' up and down at the 90 degree axis. Only on the left, I can replicate this. Another one to add to the long list for 1.2.5 (oh and yes I have the most recent patch and fix updated this morning). -Sharpe

In fairness, there is merit in both parties point of view here. On the one hand, it is not unreasonable to imagine that there are just as many people not interested in war birds/unplayable content graphics improvements as there are people interested in FW190 or EDGE etc. Its the classic political conundrum Tharos; you cant please everyone, for every person you do please, there will be 2 or 3 others you displease. Its not unreasonable, its a fact of life. On the other hand there is a genuine fear among the people I speak to across the DCS spectrum that ED is not putting enough attention to modern HiFi aircraft and there is very little info re: F/A18c. Can you blame people for feeling this way when the last official post made by Wags regarding the F/A18c was over two months ago on 17th May to say "As for our F/A-18C Hornet, the new external model can already be seen in DCS World and work on the cockpit has been on-going for quite a awhile. Once the last of the FC3 avionics bugs have been squashed, much of our avionics programming staff will move on to the Hornet." Some communications hinting towards the F/A18s progress might not go amiss for those more interested in that than say, FW190, EDGE, improved AI graphics etc. By the same token (and I am as guilty as anyone else here) its also fair to give ED a break and allow them to work on stuff and give news where it is available (or should I say, tangible)? Also, while I sympathise with the concern, I really cant see ED or DCS going 100% WW2 war bird with a long line of 3rd parties looking at everything from superbug to Hawk (not a war bird in sight - maybe the new 3rd party cant add some balance?). For my part, a communication I would LOVE to see from ED would be a breakdown of 'how' one goes about 'building' a HiFi module, the stages involved (I don't know if working on a cockpit or an AFM is something that happens at the start, back or middle of the process), a rough order of magnitude of workload etc. Not only would this be informative, insightful and (I think) interesting, but it would also go a long way to managing your clients/customers expectations. After all, most people here are not Dev's. But when all is said and done, I really think that if ED pursues the course it has laid out, ie (and in no order): F/A18c, AFM FC3, EDGE, Improved AI Graphics, Improved AI operation, Dynamic Campaign, Improved ATC, FW190, Nevada - to say nothing of the long list of 3rd party mods then DCSW will be THE ONLY place to do combat flight simming of any genre. This can surely only be a good thing (assuming infinite life of the graphics engine and code etc). But with all the good will in the world, certain things will take priority - it cant all be done at once and something will be on the leading edge and something will be on the trail edge. So long as it all comes to fruition, everyone (ED AND customers) should understand that someone is not going to like the what comes first/last decision and someone is going to like it, and the majority will be indifferent. But once its all there: WOW  -Sharpe
  6. Only when I concentrate and look at an angle ;) -Sharpe
  7. ^ Stuka - love this can I ask what the source is? Can I get a copy? -Sharpe
  8. Good info to know - cheers Eddie. But it is worth remembering that you will ultimately tank at the speed the mission editor set the tanker. As I say, that tends to be between 170-210knts between 15-22k. Often the ME sets the tanker speed according to the load that the A10 might be carrying. Just my experience but at least I know what speed to set tankers for in a mission :) Eddie also makes a good point that I forgot to mention in my first post: -Low speed and drag make tanking very hard too. Practice at speeds above 180knts and with minimal stores (its a personal choice. Some people like the aircraft to be heavy and less responsive, others prefer it light and twitchy). But eddie is quite right the lower your air speed and the more drag you have (stores, speedbrakes, flaps) the more wallowy the aircraft which makes tanking very hard. -Sharpe
  9. Scrap everything I said - this is what I want ;) -Sharpe
  10. I read somewhere that when A10c and P51 was being made Wags changed his pic to those aircraft. Wags has had an F/A18 as his avatar pic since the F/A18 was being 'announced' in late last year or early this year. Given how heavily invested ED are in stuff atm could the removal of his F/A18 perhaps indicate that F/A18c is nit going ahead at a good rate? After all rumours persist about carrier and SAR being a major stumbling block. Other rumours suggest that ED is waiting for EDGE before releasing any new HiFi content due to an obvious need to integrate one with the other. Couple this with the RRG news and ED's persistence with FW190 development leaning towards older War Birds and the FC3 AFM stuff, does anyone else think that F/A18c isnt going to be seen for 12-24 months? Dont get me wrong, I am not b****ing or whining, anything that brings DCSW to the forefront as the seminal combat flight sim environment of the future is all good in my books. Its just for me its all about the F/A18c. -Sharpe
  11. For an A10c, depending on altitude and load out you will probably be tanking between 170 and 210knts. If you require any assistance please PM me and I will be happy to help. In the mean time, the following bits of advice: 1) Practice practice practice. No, really. I am not trying to be trite, it will take you 10's of hours to get to the point where you can connect and take fuel for more than a few seconds. 2) Breath and relax. Again, really, just see if you finish with a sore wrist or find yourself holding your breath. 3) Break down the process. Begin with matching speed with the tanker, trimming out and holding perfect position on its wing. Then just stay in pre contact and do the same. Then practice making contact and coming straight off again. Then try and hold for 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 30 seconds etc. Then do it all again in a turn. It will help to break it down like this. 3) Trim Trim Trim. Unless you have a perfect trim you are going to struggle. 4) TINY movements, of both stick and throttle. Remember that to hold contact you are talking about speed changes of LESS than one knt. That equates to barely enough pressure to move the throttle - its a similar deal with the stick. 5) Anticipation. If you are coming towards the boom and think 'im too fast and I think I should slow down' odds are you are probably too late. Go really slow and take your time. Despite what it looks like, its easier to speed up in control than it is to slow down, so don't be afraid to let the tanker move away rather than crashing into it. Same applies with the boom. Look up PIO (Pilot Induced Ossilation) and read up on it - it will be your biggest problem. Understand it. Learn to see it in your flying and learn how to counter it. Best of luck and of all the above, 1 is most important. -Sharpe
  12. -Cheers Double D :)
  13. A fun watch - all the more impressive having tried to do it! Nice bunch of guys with good skills and clearly more to come :) -Sharpe
  14. Brimstone Stormshadow
  15. Improved ATC: Another great feature left behind - but at least we have shiny Reapers..... -Sharpe
  16. Something tells me you are rather missing the point and trolling for laughs. 1 ) I have never said 74th was better than anyone else. I said HiFi VFS's were rare, getting rarer and are hard to run. 2) As far as I am aware no one from the 74th has said that the 74th closing is a loss to the community. For my part its a personal loss and I think most members are of the same mind (a reasonable position I think). If you doubt that T as an individual has not made an impact on the ED community - look around, its not just the 74th saying it. 'Close all the squadrons down, the 74th are up themselves' - Is that really all you took from this whole thread? "We have two ears and one mouth, wise people listen twice as much as they talk". -I'm not kidding. -Sharpe
  17. For my part I am really sad to see Tyger go. DCS has lost a great community member much of the reason is due to the way the game/product/community is managed. I myself have nearly quit 3 times in 18 months due to game issues (poor atc, sinking into runways, lag from smoke/cbu's etc), what are (in my humble and respectful opinion) poor choices from ED regarding progress towards EDGE, Nevada and F/A18c and of course the misery of keeping a mission 'current' when patches often wreak havoc. I agree with the view that the game may not be perfect but does mostly work - but lots of little things add up. It did for T and its truly a sad loss and he has paid a great personal price for his commitmemt to the 74th.. To those that say 1 man does not make a squadron, T would be the first to agree. However, nearly 15 74th members have unanimosly told T in one way shape or form that he may well be the exception that proves the rule and that they dont want to fly as 74th under anyone else. For those that take exception to this if you are not/were not in the 74th you may wish to consider reserving judgement for those who were. I dont mean to sound offensive but in their own way each member of the 74th has largely made the same point. It could be a case of "you don't know man - you weren't there". For my part, T's departure and the closure of the 74th may well end up as a void I never fill, and I really do not relish the thought of going back to being a lone wolf. Flight simming at HiFi level is a niche market thats probably shrinking (hence ED's move towards LoFi FC3 etc). The number of squadrons are shrinking and its becoming harder and harder to fly with a group of like minded pilots at the HiFi end of the game - for most people, flying and certainly running a VFS at that level is too much of a commitment and too much pain. T did it for 4 years or more. T - I salute you, for everything you have done for the 74th and everything you have done for this community. Its above and beyond the call. -Sharpe (PS: Sorry for typos. On fone using fumbs)
  18. Hi guys. Thanks for correcting my assumptions and to explain they are going down the 3rd party route. Exciting times for those interested in war birds (happy but naff mustang pilot here). But still give me my F/A-18c asap. Please please please please please please please!!!!! -Sharpe
  19. Thanks for the heads up Sith. But one can presume the decision to buy up people to do with WW2 sim experience suggests a certain amount of focus in that direction in terms of new modules/a map or environment for the old war birds to operate in? I guess if ED wanted to push say F/A-18c or any other new 'modern' content they would have invested in people with those skills? I suppose my question is three fold: 1) Given the aparence of p51 and soon FW190 in this modern digital battlespace/simulator are we to assume that this reflects a surge more in that direction? 2) Is this in a effort to take pressure off ED devs allowing another dedicated group to focus on old war birds allowing ED to work on modern stuff? 3) are they coming in to supplement ED as a whole on all projects? Just trying to get a feel for the strategic direction atm as F/A18/HiFi's seems to be getting little love atm and war birds (hifi) and other LoFi stuff is getting a lot of love. In my humble opinion if ED were focused to knocking out F/A18c sooner rather that later (or as some order of priority project) I would have expected them to bring in people that can help specifically with that. On the other hand my prima facie analysis of this move appears to signal a kind of focus towards older war birds. - Not b****ing, just trying to get a feel for what on the horizon over the next year to 18 months as we dont really have any concrete timescales from ED and I wont pretend that for me its all about the F/A18c :) -Sharpe (PS: Sorry for typos and grammar - on fumbs with phone)
  20. Does this reflect a shift of impetus/interest/direction towards older 'war birds' for ED? Will this be separate to DCSW or as part of it? Sorry if this has been asked I'm on my mob at work with naff connection and no home PC for a while (if it has been said any chance of quotes/links). -Sharpe
  21. ^Couldn't agree more. Are people so blind or do people distrust ED so much that they think ED will give support to a title due to wear the DCS brand if THEY (the real guardians of the DCSW and DCS brand) thought it was a weak product? And for all those people that think they are flying a 100% fidelity sim in BS2 or A10c then wake up coz even ED will tell you your not. Once again, ED hold the right to say how close a module has to be garner the DCS brand. Not anyone here. And guess what. F35 is still coming to DCSW as a HiFi DCS title that is still backed by ED - so learn to either love it or deal with it.
  22. Not voting. Why? I DO want but I feel that ED would need to improve the distance rendering of air targets and missiles (not so much with ground) as its hard enough to see such objects without scratches. I would hope EDGE goes a long way to fixing this and therefore might be the time to add cockpit scratches (weather effects like ice and rain too for that matter). -Sharpe PS: Nice pics
  23. Hi all, An interesting article on the METEOR missile and its performance capabilities. From the prestigious RUSI journal in the UK. http://www.rusi.org/downloads/assets/25_Meteor_for_sale.pdf This weapon system is specifically designed to work with AESA radars (like the F35's), has 3 times the head on range of an AIM120 and 5 times more in a tail chase and can fly at up to Mach 4 from launch to intercept as it has RAMJET technology. This is hopefully going to be developed for use with KI's DCS F35. I wonder what other weapons KI will deliver with their F35? -Sharpe
  24. Thanks for the software tip. Ive already got (lots of) improved fans on my rig. They seem to have done the job for the last 18 months. I think the software you suggest may be of use - does it allow you to tinker with settings or just observe? -Sharpe
  25. Check CPU/GPU fan speeds: How does one do this - my nvidia software does not seem to support this. Also what are considered 'normal parameters'? Acoustics: Good idea but no, its really not that the change is far to dramatic and noticeable to be something like acoustics. Besides the rooms/set are almost identical. Thanks, -Sharpe
