  1. (re: Message #2 and the rest) Love this community of good natured guys and helpful tips and mods. Thanks.
  2. Thanks for the reply. Yeah, re: Message #4, usually hell to pay for disobeying orders, no gettin' around that.
  3. Quit pulling your hair out or look like the guy in my avatar or the way he and I look these days! Simple is relative... In DCS \ Options \ Special \ Mig-15, I unchecked the "Auto Lean To Aim" checkbox. I turned it off. I can reposition my head manually using my CH Fighterstick's HAT button to any position within the viewing range' limits. I can lock the view in a saved location by creating a custom snap view, and I do. I can zoom in, zoom out, return to the zoom center position and also return to the NumPad #5 center position. Nobody showed me how, I just experimented over time. See my response, my Message #11 : http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=2374210#post2374210 See my Message #4 of my thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=2359014#post2359014 For me, on final, landing to the runway, looking out over the Mig-15's nose, using any view, is a pain-in-the-other name for donkey! But I can do it. I love all the DCS aircraft I have purchased, it just keeps getting better and better!
  4. Yeah, you tell him, especially if that human or two (is) are pretty good.:megalol: I take my Mig out for my 1st Multiplayer sortie against a real guy and quickly got killed after about 3 passes. Had to fly all the way across the map to get to him. The F-86 that I purchased was about a year ago. Plenty of time for the better sim jocks to have the Sabre's flight characteristics down cold. The server I was on was the Newbie Korea map by Putz. I tell you what, though, a small 1 to 2 second burst of the smaller caliber cannons took the wing off a AI Sabre at 200 meters just like that, poof!
  5. I take it there is no solution to this issue?
  6. I saw this happen today starting up. As soon as I moved the Mig to taxi, my controls were fine.
  7. I was on a server that had random failures turned on. I had a pair of drop tanks. I jettisoned both, one dropped OK, the other remained. I could not get it to release, so I attempted a dogfight with it on, anyway. Eventually had to rtb and land with the remaining drop tank attached. Is there a solution to getting rid of the hung tank? This same sortie, my gear and flaps would not drop for landing. So I used the emergency standby systems to deploy the gear and flaps in flight and they both worked great.
  8. The throttle needs to be all the way back towards the tail, then push the start button. I have to move my Pro Throttle controller physically all the way back and hold it in that position to get a successful start. I listen to the engine spool up to its peaking sound in each phase: 1st phase after pushing the throttle handle start button is, hit HOME key. Again wait for the engine sound to peak, then Right Shift + Home, and hold it for a count of 5 seconds. There is a lever (Fuel Shutoff Valve) on the left side of the seat that needs to go down all the way to the bottom of its range to be fully open. I usually move my head over and look down to see if that lever goes fully down. Also, sometimes, the engine will not start because this same lever is not all the way up at the top of its range for the initial push button start. I found this out by trial and error over many start-up attempts. Sometimes the "Auto Start" , I call it the (cheat-start) on some of the Multiplayer servers (Left Windows key + Home key) will hang, then the engine will not start and it needs to be done manually, usually because that same lever is not to its full up position; why that is, I do not know.
  9. I have the English labels, but I kept the metric scale gages. I prefer kph, ata, to mph, etc. in the aircraft that have them. I switched it back to metric, but don't remember how I did it. Think I took out the one file and overwrote it. But I still have Sargent Shultz' beautiful mug shot. Instead, it would be nice to see a photo of a German 1940's bathing suit pinup star like the USA Hollywood actress Veronica Lake of that era. If I knew how, I would put a photo there instead of my wife... brownie points for me when she sees it! LOL!
  10. A printed manual AND a keyboard overlay with each new sim aircraft purchased, well, Microprose sims, anyway. When I first came to DCS I did not know the flight manual for each aircraft was buried within the game's sub-folders, either. If I go to my : Windows 7\Start button\All Programs\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Documentation\aircraft I am interested in , then right click the mouse for Properties will show where the existing aircraft's flight manuals are residing in the ProgramData sub-directory, that are not placed in DCS World; I have both. I copy the .pdf manual like for the 109 or F-86 and put it there for a quick link until the official one is placed there by DCS (or maybe this isn't done like this anymore?) . I also stash a link to my Dropbox stash as overkill.
  11. (re: Message #11) "My guess that my gunsight was not actually on, sometimes getting an answer from the DCS community is not worth the effort." I have always found the DCS community to be friendly enough for answers to my questions. Granted, I usually spend quite a lot of time in the archive before asking something to see if my possibly posted query has been discussed previously within a relatively recent time frame. I am surprised the moderator has allowed some of the snide responses to be posted or to still be included in this thread, but it is a Saturday and they do deserve a day or two off the routine.
  12. You also have an iron sight to use, left side of the gun sight, when the reticule goes blank from damage. The iron sight has a V with an upright arrow or inverted V within it to sight on. It is part of the sight, nothing to turn on, it is there already. The powered reticule in most of the various aircraft in DCS goes out as one of the first damages that occurs from enemy fire. I created a custom snap view to set it, my virtual pilot's head moves left of my powered-up gun-sight's viewing centerline. Then I set a button on my Pro Throttle to bring it up. This does not need power for it to properly function other than turning on my PC. I use the powered reticule's center point and fired gun tracers to set the snap view. It works for me like a charm. (Well, they look like tracer rounds to me; every sixth round in a 200 round M-60 machine gun's belt were tracer rounds or how could I see where my rounds were going?)
  13. I don't have your book, but I agree with what you said.
  14. In the other WWII sim I fly, one of those Spits has a nasty bad habit of snap-spinning if I get too slow. If I am low, landing, forget about recovering. The various sims I fly or used to fly I wonder how realistic the flight model is or was. But I get what I get and learn to fly the aircraft within the flight limitations presented. Start-up, taxiing, takeoff, flying about and landing is the easy part, eventually. Flying successfully in combat is the real challenge and being consistent at it. I usually am consistently bad concerning the air combat stuff.
  15. I have not done this, yet. Thanks for the tip. Aces High about every 4 to 6 months will have a big WWII reenactment of a lot of guys flying both sides in a big multi-mission scenario that lasts a couple hours or more including fighters and bombers. It is just like a big battle where various different aircraft have mission orders to accomplish, squadrons only flying their specific aircraft type, everything based on a universal start time and people have to be at various rendezvous points at various times before the next phase begins. The players' map is like what the 104th Phoenix map is where nobody knows where anybody else is. Used to be, a few years ago, 500 guys could be playing simultaneously. It was pretty cool. I have not participated in awhile. I would love to see same in DCS WWII.
  16. Aces High ( http://www.hitechcreations.com ) I did play WWIIOL for a little while.
  17. I hope so. I have noticed that whatever is DCS new, in MP, is quite popular for a week or two, then, except for the diehards, it dwindles down to just the few normal guys (my normal!) I see on a server to fly with. I am not too fond of FC3. I have it, but that is just not me. I think most of the DCS guys like FC3 MP and that's where they go back to. Case in point, the recent Mig-15 release. I have been with DCS since when the Warthog first came out of its beta. I think most of the guys that own the DCS stuff play not in MP, for whatever reason(s). I just started flying Cliffs Of Dover not even two weeks ago with the ATAG guys. There are more people on especially on the weekends compared to DCS and I can spot enemy aircraft w-a-y out! I still fly DCS in MP, mostly WWII and Korea, lately, and I will purchase some of the new aircraft offered, when they are available. But I like to fly with a lot of players online, relatively evenly matched. A MP flight sim I played for 5 years before switching to DCS still has big number of players at USA prime time, more than CLOD, but currently their numbers are not as large as in the past years. So, maybe, the popularity of the combat flight sims are waning for whatever reasons.
  18. Some aircraft, all types, all missions, most servers I have tried, just will not start, sometimes. I just pick another plane slot and I am always, so far, good to go. I almost always do a manual start-up process. If I fail in manual start-up, I do a cheat start-up. If that fails, I change plane slots if they are available. edit: === (Said the same thing 4 posts back... )
  19. Thanks for the link.
  20. In Cub Scouts I made a boat, propelled by a candle fastened on the boat, heating air in a copper coil wrapped around the candle. It was not fast, but it did propel the little boat.
  21. I have TrackIR 5, I have never liked it. For me it is too disorienting. But I also survived a cerebral brain hemorrhage 13 years ago, so there's that. If you know how to create custom Snapviews and I do, you can permanently recenter the gunsight as your---MY neutral, NumPad #5 view. I also have custom "Check-Six" views back over my tail. I wrote up a how-to, titled "Custom Snap Views" recently. See Message #4 : http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=2359014#post2359014 My CH Pro Throttle's HAT 4-way has views: Up, Down, Left, Right. Another 4-way has: Zoom In, Zoom Out, Zoom normal, NumPad #5. My CH Fighterstick's HAT 4-way has: Move Head Up, Down, Left, Right. That is how I do all the DCS aircraft I own in my inventory. Works for me. Also, if I do use my Track IR 5, I set two buttons on my controllers for Track IR, within the Track IR setup for - Center - and - Pause - . In Pause, essentially the TIR5 is turned off, I then can use my HAT assignments above that bypass the Track IR. I do this in the DCS aircraft I have and two other online sims I fly with. Now, my dogfighting skills really suck, which is probably due to old age and slower reflex time and spacial disorientation due to brain damage. Just a 1/4 or 1/2 second blink accumulated a few times is enough to lose a fight. But I don't care, even losing a fight is still fun. Winning is more fun, though...
  22. I think sim realism is relative. The best P-51 sim add-on is supposed to be in FSX, evaluated by a real P-51 pilot according to a retired US Navy instructor that taught at Pensacola that now sim flies the VRS SuperBug. I thought the toy P-51D at Aces High was pretty good until I learned the P-51D sim here at DCS. I am not a real life pilot and have no real P-51D experience to compare it. I do not much like FSX, so I don't have their P-51 to personally evaluate. A sim aircraft to me, is, everything works! Nobody does that, that EVERYTHING thing, except the Falcon 4 and that is hearsay, and a space shuttle sim done years ago. The realism in the sim aircraft community, not necessarily DCS, is relative. DCS has got me spoiled---I love it!
  23. I was in my late age 20's when I started working in tool and die work. I worked with a 1930's era French trained tool maker, he then in his age 60's. The way machinist's were trained in France, then, during their apprenticeship was every time he screwed up, he got whapped on the knuckles with a ruler by his instructor. By the end of his first week, his knuckles were so sore and swollen, he figured he better quickly wise up or try another trade! An earlier post stated the military's way of 24/7 training being very effective. I agree. My Navy training after basic, in my specialty was 10 weeks of very intense training. If elementary and high school were done similarly, we would be in college by age 14. Instead in the USA, schooling is just a glorified baby sitting experience.
  24. I fly the Ka-50 old school as BS1 had the trimmer function, I use no trim mods. I use quite a few other mods to enrich the experience using JSGME to manage my mods. There are no Ka-50 MP missions of interest for me, anymore, nobody supports it, except as individual sorties like the 104th does it. I quit flying it. With FC3, the Ka-50 is a dead duck target for the F-15. Guys' interests migrate to the newbie stuff. The Ka-50 is a has been. I fly mostly WWII and Korea eras lately. Just wish DCS had a dedicated company run server like Aces High has and a similar win the map type gaming objective. DCS currently has the best aircraft; Aces High has the best gaming and player numbers and see the other guy playability. The Warthog A-10C is easy to takeoff, fly, and land. It is the weapons delivery and internal computer systems that get complicated, large learning curve. This is the best aircraft DCS offers---until they get the Hornet out in beta! For learning and support the DCS forums archive are valuable. I use YouTube videos for all the DCS aircraft to learn from, starting with Matt Wagner's stuff.
  25. The only server I have tried using my new Mig-15 where I keep getting kicked off, is the Korea War era server. Yesterday this happened 6 times, I never got to starting the jet. I asked a question in text chat about it, then I was on a couple hours no problem. Ten minutes ago, same problem has occurred, a couple of times. I never completed the manual startup, then "connection interrupted". I do have the added English cockpit mod as well as the clear cockpit canopy mod. Is this issue unique to only this server? I have quite a few DCS aircraft and have sim flown in the DCS MP for a few years with few connection problems occurring. (later edit) : Got on the 104th Phoenix's server and flew the Mig-15 for an hour without issue.
