What that means is the 3 "joystick" flap positions are assignable. I have 3 buttons on the backside of my CH Products Pro Throttle. Using CH Control Manager in Direct Mode I set one button for Landing Flaps Out (down), another button for Takeoff Flaps Out (down), and another button for Flaps In (up). The Flaps In button will raise the flaps all the way in or up in one continuous action whether the flaps are fully extended or just part way. I try to setup my CH controllers the same way for all my various DCSW sim aircraft so I do not go nuts relearning each aircraft as to muscle memory moves with my fingers and have some sense of uniformity. This assignable joystick action works great. I did not have to figure out what key combinations assignments that were not being utilized to define each action. All I did was directly assign a button to each. As a test I chose Instant Action: Takeoff , as I am just setting up my controllers and am not yet ready to figure out the cold start how-to. There is a Flaps Out light indicator to know if the flaps are out or in. Thanks for this thread to figure out this flaps issue. I wanted to see what others were doing, then it came to me how to setup the flaps 3-positions. I also have the option of assigning keyboard key sequence functions using programmable G-keys to my Logitech G510 keyboard. I purchased this keyboard for the 54 assignable buttons when I started out with DCS. This allows the joystick type controllers for me to be utilized for typical HOTAS.

I recently purchased the Mig-21. LAlt + b is "View Briefing On/Off" in all the DCS aircraft I have purchased. This non-existent situation for the Mig-21 still exists. Well, at least, a work-around fix as to Message #2. This does work out OK. I copy/pasted zaelu's line using Notepad++ and saving it, creating Line 328. The substitution to "LCtrl + b" works nicely in the SP mission "Quicksand" as a test. I changed zaelu's program line to the DCS standard of "LAlt + b" and tested it using the SP "Quicksand" mission, and in MP on the 104th Phoenix server; it works great. Thank you very much.

(re: Message #1) I recently purchased Mig-21 on half-price sale. Your guide is going to save me a lot of time concerning setup and the learning curve. I use CH Products controllers and have 54 programmable G-keys of my Logitech G510 keyboard. Thanks.

Poll: which guide would you be interested in next?
DieHard replied to Charly_Owl's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Me, too, concerning the Mi-8! I bought it for $14 on a sale but as yet have not taken the time to learn it. Somebody did create an English labeled cockpit since my purchase which will speed along the learning process. My first DCS purchase was the A-10C. I created a CH Products profile and played with it some, but the lack of a hard copy manual to really get into it is why I quit flying it. I like books. Anyway, there is a need for a more condensed .pdf manual for the Warthog. Took me about a year to learn to cold start and fly the Shark. Another year to get the weapons down and use the machine in combat. I have the Shark down cold; it is my number one DCS aircraft. -
If I get the speed right for cruise, the plane flies itself, in the German aircraft. The P-51 I am always fussin' with the trim, but it is just little movements. In heat of combat, the adrenaline takes over! Afterwards, sure, a guy is going to feel a bit spent. Don't know about you guys, but a good sim fight in here, in MP, gets my palms sweaty and my heart races fast enough to cause me concern about my health, in this sim and the other WWII era sim I fly, especially fighting in WWII era aircraft. Sometimes I got to be careful getting too immersed in the battle! I did A-Fib once, I'm good, don't want to do it again. LOL I have only flown sims. Few guys in here have ever flown a WWII era real life aircraft. So, getting the info from a book read? Didn't DCS hire a WWII German vet to proof the plane before the beta release? What I get from the DCS version Bf-109, it is a very simply designed aircraft, less complicated than the Fw-190 or P-51. It is almost as simple to fly as the WWI aircraft; ever been to Rhinebeck, NY? My favorite plane in DCS, so far, is the Fw-190, but I like flying the 109.

I add mods I like to various aircraft I have. After 3 years doing it long hand, I finally setup my mods using JSGME. I hang out a lot to the Modders sub-forum. I look around on the Users Files for mods and I do searches using Google. But, I am not a modder that creates stuff / writes code. Just an idea: ======== Can the sling-load code'ing be cannibalized or adapted from the Huey to the Ka-50, providing no laws or ethics are broken?

The Little Bird is my choice, the attack variant: ============================== http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MD_Helicopters_MH-6_Little_Bird AH-6 Cockpit 'Nam (photos) ================== https://www.google.com/search?q=little+bird+copter&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=r-ZlVcPWNuPdsASlvoCwCg&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAw&biw=1536&bih=670&dpr=1.25#tbm=isch&q=AH-6+cockpit+%27Nam+ Though kind of arcade, the closest I have found is in Arma III. I don't like the FSX helicopters, any of them.

Another online MP sim I still fly on occasion has the option to bring up a target placard in MP while flying to see where my convergence rounds are hitting in-flight. The target face placard is like what is used on a USA Marine Corps rifle firing range. The target is placed facing north. It can be placed in 100 meter increments from 100 to 1000 meters out by using a variable text command. It is initially brought up by using a text command in its text chat. Only I can see it. When done testing another text command lets it vanish from view. This sim has the option to set various convergence zones for the guns on various aircraft in the hangar before takeoff. In the case of the DCS Bf-109 a target such as this would be nice to see where the cannon rounds are hitting. The target could be used in any aircraft that uses guns/cannon.

Go into Mission Editor and setup a sortie with a very strong headwind.
-
I cheat and setup my kneeboard map with on/off, previous, next and markpoint to one of my Fighterstick's 4-way hat. I do this with all my DCS aircraft, if I can.
-
If you have the CV carrier at max speed into a very strong headwind, maybe you can do it. That is how Billy Mitchell launched his bombers towards Japan in early WWII. I tried landing to a CV unsuccessfully in the past with the A-10C. Landing copters on a moving train's flat car is challenging. 1st try, I almost had it. I approached the landing pad as a CV curve approach like is done with a F4U. Going to get my ground crew guys to attach flypaper to my undercarriage.

I have seen the AFN-2 NDB receiver work on one of the WWII MP servers, either the 109 or 190. I think it is up to the server admin to setup the radio stations in game in the Mission Editor. I think anybody can set the AFN-2 using the Mission Editor creating a mission. I am looking to see how this is done; I am not much into the Mission Editor. I searched for AFN-2 on the Fw-190 forum and it showed 12 threads, 3 are below: See Message #9, #14 and read on http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=128628&highlight=AFN-2 AFN-2 in Fw-190 http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2107320&postcount=131 Question exists concerning to/from beacon: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=133973&highlight=AFN-2

Is the Dora the hardest aircraft to Take Off & Land In?
DieHard replied to Weegie's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
For me, yes, Dora is the hardest to date of the tail-draggers, but now I do fairly good and consistent. (except the copters are much harder to learn) Landing was really the issue. Took me a lot of lot of practice to get fairly good. We had the DCS P-51 first and almost everybody on the forum was having problems taking off in it when it was in early beta, lessons learned. Me too, other sims and experience, but DCS is the most realistic I have encountered. I suppose real life is the litmus test, though. I just sim fly. -
How is this adjustment useful? How do I apply this using the guns and aiming reticule? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I did a search to this forum, using the query, "EZ 42" without quotes, and "Show Threads" selected; 13 thread topics resulted. I selected: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=128187&highlight=EZ+42 I also found IvanK's (.pdf) source in Message 10 http://www.deutscheluftwaffe.de/archiv/Dokumente/ABC/e/EZ42%20Handbuch.pdf Have not found an online translator for this .pdf , German text to English. from my own search: http://allaircraftsimulations.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=6514 from here: https://www.google.com/search?q=ez42+operators+manual&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8#q=ez42+operators+manual&start=10 Also see Message #46 of this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=128295&page=5 And Message #53, of this same thread, is the only practical test I fave found on the DCS forums (so far) explaining how to use the EZ 42 Gunsight Adjustment Unit in a combat setting. But I am missing the specifics how-to, exactly how this is done using the graph of numbers other than trial and error. Now, I have found using the Fw-190's reticule sight to be really very effective killing a P-51 (human player, not AI) at about 200 meters, nicely placed in the circle, and about a ten round burst does quite nicely with an aft shot, but I did not pre-set the EZ 42 Gunsight Adjustment Unit, it was at its default setting.

MiG-15 vs F-86F Sabre Duels - MiG-15 vs F86F Sabre POJEDYNKI
DieHard replied to =Pedro='s topic in Multiplayer
I bought the Mig-15 couple weeks ago and am looking for a server with a few guys playing. I would like to see 6 vs. 6 or more players at a time. Also have the Sabre and WWII fighters. I am Eastern Time Zone (-5 hours Zulu) What is your server's name to be looking for or IP address to plug into my MP server input box? You can PM me here to my inbox. -

If I am in need of repair, especially to get the laser fixed, I deliberately land hard to break the landing gear to force a repair fix. Sometimes a repair will not work on the 1st attempt. Sometimes I will not get an engine start on the quicky-startup and have to restart manually.
-
I never use the auto setting. I switch to manual before I lift-off. I also have never found the Shkval's sweep mode to find a target to work very well. At night time it is worse. I also don't use the helmet sight.

Rudder no longer trims. Thank you ED!
DieHard replied to Svend_Dellepude's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Well that explains why I have been having to use way more rudder to fly straight on course. I have not flown the Ka-50 in quite awhile until this past week. I was wondering what changed. Now I know. I fly the Shark like how I was taught in BS1 where I am constantly using the trimmer button; I have gotten used to flying it that way. Thanks for the post. There is a YouTube video out there of a real life Russian helicopter pilot doing quals on a Russian aircraft carrier. The copter is not the Ka-50. In the video I can hear the constant clicking sound when the pilot is using the trimmer on every move bringing the copter on-board to land it. -
Tacview can be used as an in-game cheat in real time, is why the 104th does not allow it. I did a Google search about this last night as I encountered a situation on another server where I suspect that one individual was doing just that. The Google search info dates back to 2009 in the archive I was reading. I don't think the guys that develop Tacview have overcome this issue, yet.

Check with the S-77th squad. I think they have one in their bag of mods. But I agree, the DCS version has to be close for release.

The 30 mm mess up the poor mustangs...

At what range? -
Hi, Page 19 has a Note in the Combined Arms User Manual under the heading Using Weapons , states: "When using anti-aircraft guns, it is advised to enable aiming assist from the Options screen." I did a search for "aiming assist" to this forum, nothing came up as to having been previously mentioned. ================= How is this implemented? ================= I don't see this option in game. On Page 6, is this the same as allowing "Compute Firing Solution" within the check-box of the Special options tab? Thanks.
