Most if not 100% of the fighters in DCS (please correct me if I am wrong) are able to over speed without any consequences. In MP environment this creates a situation where many people exploit this fact. They takeoff push the max AB, get to over 150% over the aircraft speed limit shoot what ever A2A they have and then go back to base for tea and medals. I mean doing M1.5 on the deck and pulling 13G does not really seem realistic. Anyway, this completely busts any sort of RL tactics as the A2A comes down to who's gonna accelerate fastest - not sure I saw this in any RL engagement procedures. Could we have some sort of random damage model where things start failing as you go more over the airspeed limit?

Request: More realistic GCI/AWACS map mode
Cmptohocah replied to Cmptohocah's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
So I guess people are fine that controller can see what type of missiles are being fired. Cool, cool... -
I suspect something else is at play here. I mean, I can't prove this 100% at the moment as I would have to do some research on how the IR seekers work in the front-hemisphere. If they are going dumb 'cause of the AB, this would mean that I can create a script that goes in and out of burner automatically which would make me basically 100% protected from the IR seekers and this kind of sounds odd already.

Is there a way of checking if the aircraft is in AB in TacView? During the launch of 4 archers his speed dropped from M0.76 to M0.73, so it's really hard for me to tell judging by speed alone. I also find it hard to believe that just by turning the AB off the missiles would go ballistic at 3~4km - seems kind of too easy no?

It would be great if we could have a more realistic GCI map available where the operator: would not see which weapons have been fired would not be able to tell what type of aircraft is on the scope would not be able to tell how many aircraft are in certain location, if they are too close together and far enough to drop under the radar resolution would not be able to see friendly/hostile or at least not see it all the time and not automatically Flying with a human GCI is an experience beyond any words can describe and it would be great if it would be a bit more realistic and a little less acradish. I just realized. Perhaps this post should be moved to "DCS Whishlist"?

Clearly there are major issues with IR tracking in MP. I mean look at this encounter: 1 out of 4 Archers tracked - the others: God only knows what they were doing. 1st one tracks but gets decoyed by flares - nothing unusual there 2nd tracks initially but decides to go away from the target at one point - doesn't track the target, doesn't go for the flares 3rd and 4th just go stupid off the rail. Maybe the batteries were dead? xD It's to early to say, but I think that this does not happen against other FC3 planes, like the F-15. It only seems to happen, so far, with F-16 and F/A-18. https://imgur.com/a/untwENb Conclusion at the moment is: both R-27Ts and R-73s are useless in the front hemisphere in MP when it comes to Hornet and the Viper.

This is what I keep repeating to my self beofore every takeoff.

Eagle Missing Overspeed Damage Modeling
Cmptohocah replied to Cmptohocah's topic in F-15C for DCS World
Yeah, I'm not going into that "over-stress" debate again. But it would be nice to see things starting to fail randomly when exceeding the limits by 150%. I would like to see this on ALL aircraft including the Red side as this would make flying much more realistic and complicated as it is in RL.- 15 replies

Eagle Missing Overspeed Damage Modeling
Cmptohocah replied to Cmptohocah's topic in F-15C for DCS World
Just checked the Flanker's manual. So there are two limiting factors: - maximum airspeed (1400km/h ~ 756kts) which comes from structural strength - maximum mach number (M2.35) which is limited by cockpit glass I am guessing that the same applies for the Eagle. I know that F/A-18 and F-16 are also both limited to 800kts CAS.- 15 replies

Should I edit the title of the post then to "structural limit" instead of "engine limit"?- 15 replies

Yup, the Fishbed's engine flames out when max speed is exceeded.- 15 replies

The ones showing correct data are the ones detected by your own aircraft. -

According to the F-15C manual (F-100-PW-200 engine - I am assuming that this is the one DCS version has) engines have a hard limit of 800 knots CAS and for altitude of 11600' maximum mach number is around M1.43 ~ M1.44. However, from the TacView screenshot, from one of the multiplayer servers, one can see an F-15C doing M1.7 (1244KTS) at 11600 feet. This guy's engines had no issues as he went latter on to over M2.0 at a higher altitude, I just didn't include the rest of the engagement.

I think it will be difficult to reproduce this in SP as I have experienced this kind of behavior only in MP so far. Also, it's not that they Alamos and Archers don't track at all in MP, but there are instances like these that they just go dumb for no apparent reason. The amount of cases this happens on is limited at the moment, but I have not experienced this with a SARH Alamo.
-
Do you see a problem here, perhaps?
-
Just checked the MiG-29B's manual and locking the targets in vertical mode is limited to 10km and is to be used to lock visually acquired targets.
-
This also just crossed my mind: Isn't the jammer supposed to blind your own radar too? I could be totally wrong on this one. I also wonder, where did ED get the burn through distance? Does anyone have an idea?

Next time I will give'em some motion sickness tablets before the flight. I understand that, but this was very close and it's not like they tracked and lost track, they went dumb off the rail and this was before he even started flaring. They look like S-8 rockets. No LA override was used, but since you have mentioned it, many times 27Ts and 27ETs don't get a LA until 10km in front hemisphere, which basically makes them R-73 when it comes to seeker range. I am having a really, really hard time picking up anything that is close to the ground. Vertical scan for some reason has only 10km range, so if you are using it make sure that the range is less than that or you won't get a lock.

Their FOV was nowhere near the sun. At least that's how it looks like from the HUD view.
-
I am not sure if the issue is in net code or what, but it seems that R-73s and R-27Ts in front hemisphere serve no more than decorative purpose. In the gif you are able to see both of them missing at < 8km for some reason. In the HUD view you can see me struggling to pick up the target on radar, 'cause for some reason Flanker's radar can't pick up a target at 10-15km distance almost co-alt, and had to go into vertical scan and do aileron rolls. https://imgur.com/a/Qp168iE

I've failed the point out that the SAMs are AI controlled and I am controlling that poor MiG-29 that was trying to take cover.
-
I can't provide DCS track file as the incident happened online, but I can provide short video clip showing Strelas missing a target (F/A-18), which was not even flaring, well within the engagement envelope. I actually tried to used them as a cover, but little did I know that they can't actually shoot down anything. https://imgur.com/a/0R7unRj https://i.imgur.com/vVI7CBP.mp4
