  1. Does it mention anything about afterburner? I guess, but also I could be totally wrong, the AB should not really matter in front-hemisphere. Then again, what's the seeker picking up? Contrast from the aircraft body?
  2. I think I got it. Yellow is the old seeker and red is the new one. I think rear aspect for the old one is 60-70km.
  3. Did I understand the picture correctly: it should lock at 18km in front hemisphere? What does the red region depict?
  4. There is one thing though, ET and T have a pretty good range, but for some reason in front aspect, when the target does not have AB on, their range in less that of the R-73. Meaning the LA comes at around 8-9km. Depends where the fight is happening. A lot of people like to fly high and above the clouds.
  5. Hi @Chizh, Do you have any more information about this? I find it hard to believe that there is absolutely no margin. The manual instructs to fire one missile at this "Rmax" distance, but if there is no overhead, chances for this missile to hit are almost zero.
  6. Ah I see, I had no idea. Yeah that would make a difference indeed. Do you have any documents to back this up? Maybe ED can adjust it to match the real thing.
  7. From what I know in DCS MiG-29S' radar has a range of around 50km and 77-1 goes up to 90km.
  8. I don't think it would help that much as the MiG's radar has a pretty short range. What we would really need is an Su-35, but that's just a pipe-dream.
  9. I completely agree about the video, however the main point of it is to show that Su-30MK2, that uses the same engines and is known to have higher drag than the Flanker, has better performance in RL than or Su-27 does in DCS. So even if adjustments are made to match the Su-30, this will still not be 100% accurate, but it will be better than what we have now. Thanks again for your answers.
  10. Does that RL video qualify as "unclassified evidence"? You can find it here
  11. The issue here is that Su-27/MiG-29 can only release bombs in pairs and if you need to do a run on a comand post with bunker busters, you either carry the second bomb as dead weight or you load the bombs asymetrically. Here, for example, one can see that RL BetAB concrete-pearcing bombs don't really interferre with each other: https://youtu.be/Hl94r54b73w

  13. There is no maximum or minimum Ground Speed in a practical sense. Depending on the wind GS can theoretically be 0 or even negative. It's always TAS+/-wind. It has no performance sense and the only thing it tells you is how fast you will reach some fixed point on the ground. This is true for level flight. If you dive down at an angle of 90deg, the GS will be zero.
  14. Was there any chaff involved? It seems to me, from the screenshot, that Alamo started tŕacking behind the target and then re-acquired.
  15. In DCS you can think of chaff as basically flares for SARH. They don't influence the targeting radar but rather the missile.
  16. Ground Speed is the air speed of an aircraft plus/minus the wind speed, so technically speaking there is no maximum ground speed, well accept the speed of light that is . At higher altitudes you want to use the Mach number and at lower altitudes you would use indicated air speed. Real Eagle has a limit of 800knots indicated air speed and above Mach 2 point something - can't remember the exact value.
  17. This usually happens when a seeker is way out of the constraints of the HUD. Does it happen if you also turn the targetting pod on/off?
  18. From what I understand RWR triggers a launch warning, in STT mode, once the M-link is detected. So in a hypothetical 4 vs 4 fight where group "A" has locks on group "B" (each plane from one group has locked up its counterpart from the other group) and only one fires a SARH, shouldn't all target RWRs trigger a launch warning? Also at what point is the STT+M-link being reported as a launch and when should it be ignored? For example, STT mode came from one direction and M-link form another. Is M-link directional?
  19. Ah got it. Didn't realize it was the difference that was depicted there.
  20. Please don't hate me, but pitch and AoA are two different things. Pitch is angle relative to the horizont, and AoA is angle between wing's chord-line and the airflow.
