  1. Yeah, so big databases take awhile. Even if it was Cloud, depending on size it could take even longer than a local backup. Cloud providers charge more for active easily accessible data, and most folks go with the cheaper archival "offline" mode. At that point, you start to understand, that local storage on a large SSD NAS array is cheaper, even if you mirror it across redundant installations globally. Just a guess, but ED more than likely has everything they need, and it just takes time.
  2. Looking forward to it for multiple reasons, as mentioned to build the community. However, getting some disk space back, instead of running two separate copies, to host different dedicated servers etc. or even for a single player mission builder, is very nice. Wondering though, which of my builds is the one that will retain all my module config files to get collapsed into a single supported version. Opph!!
  3. Currently running a basic mission on the Sinai Map. Air start, MK82's, no wind. Bombing from various altitudes, different speeds/directions, ASL is dead on, and bomb drops are accurate. However, if I load up an older miz, that has a lot of scripting on the Syria map, it is off center every time. I have disabled wind on this miz, and it is still off. Has anyone tried using different simple air start bombing missions, from scratch, new miz on different maps? For now on the Sinai map, my miz and ASL are working fine.
  4. I have experienced this. Was using an older map (Syria), with assets and missions setup on it. ASL was always left or right of middle of Pipper and you could never line it up. Drops of dumb bombs was always long. Someone suggested to remove wind data, I did and same result. It was also suggested to start from scratch on a new map. Used the new Sinai map, setup a simple bombing scenario, and ASL line was perfectly aligned with the target drop and dumb bombs hit correctly. I did this with MK82's and 84's. No wind was setup in ME, so I did not test to see if wind correction would work. If needed, I can recreate, and upload log files for analysis.
  5. Just set the ECS on low. I found that dinking around for a few minutes when I noticed it was loud. Others have suggested pushing out left or right and get a reduction. Try that and/or setting it to low. Like others have said, their will be consequences when turning it off in the future, because it cools all your avionics and compute. But seriously, whether "real" or not, I think it is cool (pun intended), for the level of detail, and you can turn it to low or move off to left or right. Not a big deal.
  6. As a backbone engineer, building networks that span continents, working with AWS and Azure Data Centers, ATT, Level 3 and other Tier 1 through 3 providers, even they fail and have issues and outages. If you subscribe to Cisco on Twitter's BGP feeds, there are daily outages globally on major BGP backbone hosts and routing tables. Every single day. How do you know DCS isn't multi-hosted with content servers spread out? That is not the magic pill that fixes all service delivery interruptions that you think it might be. Been with DCS for over a decade, so my response to you is mainly out of curiosity as you level a lot at them, while ignoring companies and game developers many times larger that have the exact same issues. All I can tell you is, ED always gets it fixed, and the product is best in class, nothing comes close. I offer that you give it a bit, and ED will get things straightened out. Fairly certain you will be pleased with the results.
  7. Same. Like it is an instant "get out of jail" card, as if it trumps everything. Sigh. I think the worst thing ever created, as far as sayings go, in the English lexicon is "The customer is always right". Worst philosophy ever. Should be amended, to something like "Treat the customer as if they are right, but don't let them walk all over you, over $80.00". At least within the price range of DCS/ED titles.
  8. As an Original WWII Backer, when it was run by Ilya, then taken over by ED, got my P-47 about 5 years after that, and still waiting on the ME-262 . . . these "when is it coming!!!" and complaints on the F-15E (coupled with the inevitable "I am a paying customer!!) are amusing. It will get here, when it gets here. In the meantime, I literally have multiple lovely modules to fly, and new functionality to explore with every Beta. Welcome to DCS delivery timelines. I say that with affection after more than a decade on this platform. Always worth the wait, nothing else comes close. Buckle up, relax, and enjoy the wait.
  9. Keep doing what you are doing Nine/ED. Long time customer. Will continue to be. Product is amazing. Thanks for all your, and the ED team's work.
  10. I am cool with it. The amount of updates, MT, and content getting added is fabulous. Tease me all you want ED, I am down for it. Looking forward to the new releases, whenever they drop.
  11. Yeah. For me, like an entirely new game, amazing. I created the post, because I suspect some folks are just letting DCS OB update, not reading any instructions (I am sure that never happens here), and launching "old" DCS by default. I did it at least three times, just on muscle memory. Had to wait, finished the logon process, get to loading screen, exit, then go to my MT shortcut. It was an agonizing 3 minutes to kill off old DCS, and run amazing stunning new DCS. I am not discounting some folks are having issues, but end-user machines, home built rigs, even store bought are like a "Box of Chocolates". Folks may insist their machine is the most pure stable machine in the universe and it is all the code's issue. 30+ years of experience tends to put me in the 60/40 crowd. 60% user machine stuff, 40% Code update stuff. That 40% includes people not reading directions and launching the old DCS.exe.
  12. Few things. I have seen an amazing increase in performance. Seeing folks here report none, to very little. All could be true - but. What I am not seeing consistently is WHAT environment? My earlier post, mentioned I was a Pancake. Some posts not clarifying whether Pancake or VR. Also, I am using a shortcut to the MT bin folder MT launcher . . . are other folks just launching the old standard binary? I think it would be helpful for folks to list VR/Pancake, Resolution, Basic hardware and core count and an explicit reference to "Yes, I am launching the MT DCS.exe from the MT folder!" IMHO
  13. Pancake player here, most settings high, ultra clouds. Fired up an A-10 in a known good scenario with pre recorded FPS points, +25 FPS in cockpit (on 12 cores) and 35+ FPS gains in F2 view, on Syria Map, flying around Ramat David and around busy town geography, I mean street level looking at windows in buildings. Basically I went from 45 FPS in cockpit on ground, to 65. In the air, low level flying over towns and cities on Syria averaging 75 to 80 FPS. High altitude 90 to 100 FPS. Look AT THIS MT!! Fantastic job ED!!!
  14. All the: "I skipped a day from work for this", "I made plans around this", "I was waiting for this, put things off for this". One plans their life around software updates for Beta Simulation/Gaming/Emulation software? This is a thing? Well, snatch me bald headed and call me Spanky!
  15. Dunno how it became a Steam vs. DCS thing. I found and became a DCS fan (2011) because of Steam. I think Steam is important to DCS for marketing reach. However, after a few years I switched to full standalone DCS to better support ED/TFC. I am still a Steam customer, it does have a lot of advantages. Not sure why a line has to be drawn in the sand over the Steam vs. DCS F-15E drop. Sure, some things don't show up in one vs. the other, discounts etc. But Steam is a great platform, and works for those that wish to stay with it for DCS. Pure DCS clients have advantages also, but those are very specific to a certain type of mindset and player, of which I am one. Mainly, maximize profit for a my favorite developer, and run the client in as pure a state as possible, especially Beta. But, not a day goes by that I am not launching a game from my Steam portal. Many of which I would never have bothered with if it were not for Steam.
