Axis & Allies DCS World Style! Week 7 Status Report New Dawn Though it was expected to be overcast and the bombers not able to fly, the Allies prepared their bombers anyways. On this very early morning, low and behold, the weather had indeed broken up into partly cloudy skies and the bombers were on their way. Strategists had determined that a dawn raid would catch the Axis off guard and also the low light conditions help them slip through the defenses. It apparently worked as the Axis had some mechanical issues and troubles working around their damaged airfield in the dark. So, fewer fighters were put into the air and with the unpredictability of the Allied attacks, they were spread thin looking for them. The plan worked out so well, the bombers made it to their target completely unopposed. The flak units on the other hand did see them and proceeded to open up. It was as thick as anyone has seen in this war yet, yet they kept on pushing through, each one taking a pounding. Moderate damage was reported at the Axis industrial centers as the Axis fighters finally found their prey. They went after the Allied fighters with a vengeance and were successful in knocking a few down. The Allied scattered, dragging the 109’s and 190’s away from the bombers. Air defences were also still feverishly trying to drive the attackers away. It was reported that they may have shot down one of their own, Commander Shadowfrost. He was able to bail out of his flaming wreck just in time. I am sure he will have a talk with the air defence commander about it. The Axis commenced their attack again on schedule as they have for most of this war. Though they themselves seemed more prepared this time around with a few tricks up their sleeves as well. After multiple head on attacks, even though successful, but deadly for the bombers, they sent them on a large loop to attack the industrial center from the north instead of south. This apparently caught the Allied defences off guard. The bombers made their attack run without worry of fighters and very little flak. With such little opposition, they were able to concentrate on their aim and did heavy damage to the remaining Allied industrial centers and escape with nary a scratch. Where were the Allied fighters? It has been found out that they were on a training mission. Was there miscommunication on the time of the Axis attack? How could that be with the regular schedule they have been keeping? The Axis fighters, hungry for victory went on the hunt for the missing Allied fighters. They were found out and the Allies got more training than they expected as the Axis tore into them. The Allies were able to give as much as they got this time as each side was able to claim a pair of fighters. The resources are getting so wiped out at this point, particularly for the Allies, it does not seem as though either side can continue. Maintenance problems and being their own worst enemy, the Axis are not in any better shape. They have many aircraft left, but almost all of them are damaged and un-airworthy. Stay tuned to see who cries uncle first. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1n-bjKnWoNERtpADwhGrw9JY0y9vVSCEnB8MqJWA9L8Y Media coverage coming soon....

Additional Advanced waypoints with their own start/stop conditions, independent from each other, would be where I would start. -
Just curious, I will more then likely wait until DCS finishes the object. Thanks
-
Do you have any info on its dimensions? does the placement direction matter at all?

Another excellent report, thanks!

Ok, I played around with the follow command, and if you did use it, there are some things you need to do in order for them to land where you want. Some things will depend on how many waypoints you have and if you want them to follow the waypoints if you are not there, or to follow you exclusively. Set up each group to follow you at a set distance (Perform Task: Follow: Click on A/C to follow) Setup a specific "Stop Condition" I recommend setting up a trigger zone just prior to the landing zone. Specify a flag to be true (check boxed). Setup a trigger that when the unit you (or lead a/c) are in that trigger zone, the flag specified is set to true Setup a "Perform Command: Switch Waypoint: Condition = Time more then mission start time plus 5 seconds). If this command is not used, the a/c following will go back to waypoint 0 to start their route again. If you have a complicated route and want them to follow it if the lead a/c is destroyed, you can setup a series of switch waypoints based off of time to waypoint in case the lead is taken out anywhere along the way. In any light, ensure you have at least 1 in there to keep them from going back to the starting point (or point in which they started following if picked up mid way). Ensure the last waypoint (no matter how many you have) is set to 1 waypoint prior to the landing zone. Should be right there at the trigger zone. Then make sure they have 1 more waypoint that designates them to land (PerformTask: Land :Ensure the landing triangles are not to close to each other). Now, they will follow you no matter where or what route you take, until you hit that trigger zone and sets the designated flag to true. Then they will stop following, will have switched to the waypoint prior to landing, immediately hit the landing waypoint and will proceed to land. Attached is the test mission I created to show this working. Good luck! Heli land test.miz -

I set up 4 hueys in a single group, 3 waypoints and then a "Perform Task: Land" at a designated flat area and that was successful. I then separated them into 4 singular groups and again, they all landed (Even in the same spot, crashing into each other, I had not moved the designated landing spots after copy/paste). I then separated the landing spots by about 200 feet and they all successfully flew their waypoints and landed. I did notice that you said they were following you. Did you use the follow command? -
Think I found it. Change the description lua entry From: {"pilot_F5E_helmet", ... to: {"pilot_F5E3_helmet", ...
-
Ah, finally looked at an F5 description.lua and seen the link is in there by default. (Older aircraft did not put this info in, you had to find it). Mind posting your Description.lua to see what is going on?

Try a FARP instead of the grass airfield. The grass airfields are not working yet in any capacity that I am aware of. -
I found the default Pilot helmet file here: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\CoreMods\aircraft\F-5E\Textures\f-5e3_tiger_II_textures.zip Inside you will find the file "pilot_f-5e3_helmet.bmp.dds" You can take that file and modify it, put it with your other custom files. You will need to find the name of the link to set it up properly in the description file like any other custom graphic.

The Dynamic weather import, if/when you would be able to do it would indeed be best. Have noticed the standard weather bug of the clouds disappearing from external view use totally ruins any type of weather on MP missions. Thing is though, hasn't ED stated that they are reworking weather in the future? I realise this could be quite some time before we see these changes. Just wonder about the amount of work put into a current solution, only to be wiped out by a future change.

Was DCS running when you activated the mod? Make sure DCS is not running and activate it if so. JSGME mod setup is pretty simple. The first foldername in "_Mods" can be anything. That becomes the name of the mod in JSGME that you see. The contents of that folder need to match up with the folder structure in DCS World. So, if you look in your _mod folder, you should see the same folders as you see in C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\. If this does not match, it will not copy the files into the correct places for the mod to work. If this is the case, need to research what the structure needs to be and make the changes to your ../_mods/"custom mod name"/ folder. Most people that have problems put in an extra folder in the path, throwing off where the files get copied to. If you continue to have problems, I can usually be reached on the Virtual Aerobatic Teamspeak at: ts3.virtual-aerobatics.com And can talk you through first hand on its setup. Good luck!
-
Then its something with your shortcut that is pointing it to some other place. You are not editing the correct JSGME.ini or the shortcut/execution of the JSGME is activating somewhere else. Assuming you are running DCS in the following directory: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World Copy your JSGME.EXE file to that folder and execute it from there. If the JSGME.INI file does not already exist there, it will create it, again, asking for the MOD folder. If the INI file does exist, it will use the folder designated.
-
The most recommended folder for JSGME in DCS is _Mods. You will need to create this folder first and it needs to be in the directory structure for your version of DCS. Example: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\_Mods In the DCS World folder you told JSGME to run out of, you should find a JSGME.INI file. In there is the setting: [MODS FOLDER] Name=_MODS Change the Name to the newly created folder name (_Mods) and you should be good to go. If you havent already, this is probably the best tutorial on JSGME for DCS out there: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=98607&highlight=JSGME+tutorial

Connection timeout and can't re-join server.
Shahdoh replied to Schmidtfire's topic in Multiplayer Bugs
Since we have removed cargo from the Virtual Aerobatics server, we (to the best of my knowledge) have not experienced this issue of getting disconnected and not able to reconnect. The disconnects still happen, but they are able to get back on the server. Also, the server has not crashed for about 2 days now (we restart every 4 hours with a client load of usually 15-40). -
Model enlargement with the small setting provides just a dot out at the extreme ranges of 20 plus miles and smoothest transition from imposter to normal LOD. Its drawback is that it can still be hard to see (sometimes even simply disappears) around the transition point.

Axis & Allies DCS World Style! Week 6 Status Report Desperate times… As the war trudges on and resources get low, desperate measures are sometimes taken. The Allies this day seems to have done just that. They decided to try a daring attack with all of their fighters, directly against the axis airfield. An eagle eyed axis patrol spotted them as they tried to fly a low level flanking attack. The axis patrol was able to down a couple of the Allied mustangs, but more slipped through and continued on for the airfield. Meanwhile other Axis patrols were searching for the Allied bombers, but they were nowhere to be found. The Allied fighters finally reached their target and commenced the attack. They met heavy resistance from both the Axis fighters and ground defense. They were able to do some decent damage, but paid a heavy cost as not a single Allied fighter made it home. About this time, the Allied bombers commenced their attack on both the Axis airfield and industrial center from an extreme altitude. Being that the Axis fighters were dealing with the low flying fighters, they reached their targets unharmed and were able to do some light damage. Apparently the altitude affected their aim as you would expect unmolested bombers to be more effective. Some Axis fighters were able to climb up and finally engage the bombers, but the damage had already been done. Bomber gunners were able to hold them off, though one B-17 finally did go down. The Axis fighters also took some losses in the bloody affair. The Axis then commenced their attack on their regular schedule. You could set your watch to them. They threw all they had into attacking the Allied industrial center, well prepared to deal with Allied fighters defending it. Yet, all they met was ferocious flak. The flak was almost thick enough to walk on as it tore into the bombers taking down a good number of them and even an Axis fighter. But, where were the Allied fighters? The remaining bombers were able to do significant damage to the industrial center nonetheless and turned for home never to see a Mustang. Axis fighters quickly realised the allies must be trying another ground attack, but to which targets? They quickly raced back to home field and still no enemy fighters? Getting low on fuel, they had to throttle back to try and save every last drop in case they did show up. And show up they did again, trying to hit the airfield with everything they had. Again, the combination of ground defenses and enemy fighters made them pay a heavy price. The Allies were able to do even more damage to the airfield, but once again, not a single Allied fighter made it back home. The Allies managed some significant damage in their daring raid and paid a severe price for it. Can the Axis put enough aircraft together in what’s left of their airfield? Do the Allies have any fighters left? Will this war ever end….. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1n-bjKnWoNERtpADwhGrw9JY0y9vVSCEnB8MqJWA9L8Y/ Stay tuned for the media coverage...

I do not have the problem ( I dont have the F5 yet), but have tried to help Whiteside troubleshoot his issue. He has the Oculus Rift, maybe its a VR thing that is causing the Comms menu to open up on the ground???
-
Cool, thanks.

If this is truly the case, it needs to be NWS on the ground, and radio in flight, not both at all times. Tower might get a bit annoyed if you keyed mic just to activate NWS while taxiing around.... Other way around should not be quite so problematic, but could still create some issues.
