OPERATION SUMMER RAIN - MULTIPLAYER DYNAMIC CAMPAIGN
Oberst Zeisig replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
Sounds like one of the most interesting approaches to DCS online campaign so far. I just registered to the anon6 network as a single pilot. I'm no member of a squadron but I have no problems in flying in a team on comms. Should know many people from there anyway :). I'm familiar with the FC3 planes and the A-10C :). -
There really is no "method" for the flanker vs. an Eagle in an open head on fight. Your biggest advantages are IRST sensor and the ET for stealth attacks. Use Your RWR. To point You roughly the right direction. Always when You're painted (close) hide when not engage. You can't just engage an eagle and this hide and seek game can last for minutes even up to flying home with all Your missiles on the rails. You have to enjoy flying the flanker itself ;).

As the DCS A-10C sytem is modeled You can detect any missile launch at least 6-7 nm away according to my experience, which is pretty far for a SRM and can convenietly be evaded by using some flare which is also mostly fully automatic in that system, but which otherwise would have hit You. Even more interesting I think is to know that You´re being painted by a laser rangefinder of EOS over 100km away.

Interesting vids, so this "DAS" system still remains for further updates of the raptor then? If You really restrain from using these systems You can get ****ed up by a stoneold Mig29-A with 73 or even a manpad if You not rely 100% on stealth which seems quite bold. The imagination of missiles doing 180 turns like in the first vid seems quite rediculous though.

Yeah Youre right, I´ve just tested it. It´s 4 bar scan. You can see it at the arrow on the left side for the antenna elevation indicator. Seems to be the only option for LRS.
-
Thanks for info! Yes validity is always a point. Why hasn´t it been installed on the F-16 then if it´s possible in the A-10C? The Advantages are overwhelming. Here is a newer version of that kind of system for fighters, http://www.exelisinc.com/solutions/Missile-Warning-System/Pages/default.aspx it´s from cassidian one of the companies that build the Eurofighter. Maybe this is really a new approach for fighter avionics.

That would be so cool. The perfect mode to reacquire targets that You know are somewhere nearby. There are so many features and modes and functions for that radar that aren't modelled and bring You deceicive advantages. It really is time for a DCS:F-15C.
-
Sure about that? 4 bar scan isn't modelled in the game only one bar scan. And this covers, if You calculate it according distance and vertical coverage (so simple geometry), round about 10 degrees. That's also a number I read in the forum before.
-
One thing that interest me in that context: The 1 bar scan has a vertical width of about 10deg. So I suppose the antenna (moving from left to right and back) has a streaming zone of 10deg. So why is it in bore mode where the radar antenna look straight forward You have only that small zone of about 1.5 deg. in the inner circle on the HUD where You can autolock targets. Why ins't that zone not also 10deg? (maybe pictured by the outer circle on the HUD in bore mode)

We talk about innovations for the russians. What interest me ist a possible innovation for the F-15C too. There was much talking about the datalink installed since certain model series. But another point: Do modern versions of the TEWS of the F-15C have the laser warning capability of the A-10C? If Yes that would make the Flanker almost useless as the greatest BVR-strength namely sneak and stealth-lock with IRST is pointless then. And even interesting are there modern versions that have a Missile Warning System like the A-10C that detects a burning missile motor from all aspects? So You can't only decect a long range IRST-lock but also shorter ranged launches of Heat Seaking missiles.

That's a good point of view and I like the situation as it's now so You have to get closer to a bandit for a 2nd or 3rd shot and work on it like pushing him to the splash. :) 1st missle is mostly just for getting an advantage and gaining a better position on the bandit and it's a very good BVR practice IMO, even if it often ends up WVR.
-
This is maybe due to smaller firing distance of 2nd shot? But You said minimal separation ....
-
Maybe it's about kind of steering logic. So if the missile just at once reacts to target movements with radical turn to the new intercept course it maybe bleeds much too much speed compared to ... "smoothen" out the course correction. E.g. the target does several evasion moves one move compensates the other. Maybe there is no (100 %) "right" or "wrong" pattern and we can get even less data on that logic. Sure I didn't find the correct words and probably been discussed before, but I'm just interested.

That's why I think the AMRAAM isn't that useless in the game after all. If I apply the right tactics and manage to get in good enough launch parameters one time after another to keep the bandits busy or cause them to retreat I'm content in fulfilling my mission (air superiority). That works quite well with the actual AMRAAM. Of course most bandits when having shot their ERs and ETs don't want to just retreat and do some silly things and then You get them. And sometimes they're just unpatient and do this before that. :D
-
No, this is a SIM and it's all about realism and especially having realistic defenisve behaviour. This in mind and the fact the F-15 probably suffers most of the issue it just means that the Eagle then can control a 5nm larger airstrip for strikers to get involved. And that's the only thing it's ment to do and not to splash around. But of course I don't know what singular people think about this.
-
Agreed PK is not a reliable indicator, that's the main point. Nevertheless these RL situations compared with fighters doing extremely and well timed/trained (sometimes unrealistic) evasive maneuvers like in FC3 the number goes down drastically.
-
And assuming those which hit were launched at targets that didnt take any evasive action due not knowing they're being launched on. How does the number look then?
-
A tutorial, learning how to fly DCS FC3 in 1 minute. ;) But a good post though!
-
That's great! Great link! I'd love to have these functions with the F-15C, I don't know why it's so difficult to model. Anyway I'm looking forward intense to any fighter on DCS-level!

Yes Aim9 is a good solution to this radar sensor issue with hovering KA's. I mostly gun them down if You just come across one by chance, they smoke so funny when going down. :D
-
So that's a clean solution. :D
