F-15C Radar and Target Acquisition Range
Oberst Zeisig replied to popcorn's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
So this would be 60deg wide and 40deg in height as summary? That would be ****in huge. -
F-15C radar: too many user errors!!

You mean in this situation (head on) Your SA is better with RWR and visual sight on smoketrails than with bore sight scan only? (Sorry for my Enlish in the post before) -
F-15C Radar and Target Acquisition Range
Oberst Zeisig replied to popcorn's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
That hits exactly my actual problem which mode/method to choose at searching targets within close range, say under 10nm but too far to see them. So You would say the best mode for this would be the gun mode (GACQ). If You have no clue where the enemy could. Didnt get to this idea before as I thought gun mode would be only for very close range short before actually firing the gun. This 20deg x 60deg window You talked of. Is it vertical 20 and hoizontal 60 or vize versa. Is this window always orientated at the longitudinal axis of the plane? (means where you are actually looking) or is it always orientaded at a given angle to the horizon (like BVR-mode). That info should turn my close range combat to the very better :-) -
F-15C radar: too many user errors!!
Oberst Zeisig replied to flavnet's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Hey guys! I'm having the exact same problems with reacquiring targets. As far as I know from in and outside the game the Eagle has by far the best and most powerful radar of all simulated planes. But I also have often problems to safe and secure acquiring of targets, even if I know their altitude and aspect quite good and having adjusted the settings of radar accordingly and beeing in the interleaved PRF. In my experience the radar acquisition isn't 100 % safe no matter what altitude and aspect the target has. E.G. sometimes targets from which I have a good signal in BVR mode suddenly disappear and than appear againg some seconds later at exat the same Alt. and aspect. And I think when You are just searching with the radar there are several other factors which can "delay" the acquisition. E.G. when I'm just searching targets in a specific area I'm just cruising in some curves and tilting my radar up and dowm slowly in an dimension where targets could be and do this in the interleaved PRF. But as You mentioned the radar has a quite narrow cone. (Does anyon know how narrow the radar cone is vertically in degrees? and what is the verical gimbal limit of the radar?) This isn't normally a problem for distances over 20nm, where the vertical cone is about 20000 ft or more, but for distances about 10nm, which are very interesting in my opinion for getting a good pk for a bvr shot this is quite a narrow cone. In addition I think if all parameters of the radar are met it still can last some seconds to get an acquisition, and some seconds in air combat are quite a lot of time. So if your PRF isnt right in the moment and in the next moment it is (interleavead) and You are still scanning the alt. with your radar in a direction where you guess the target could be it can take quite a lot time to get an acquisition. So for distances under 10nm, where You normally still cant see the target this is quite an unsecure way. In my experience You have to keep all the information You got for say the last minute in mind, so all signals from radar and rwr so You have about a 3d map of all this in Your mind still have to du poker a lot and guess where enemys now could be and fly your maneuvers according to this. So never fly in a straight way and turning into the predicted bandit positions from time to time. And sometimes You get an acquisition and sometimes You don't. All this together I think is ****ING difficult, but I guess this makes the game that interesting. In SP in an one on one situation when I want to train this I close into a bandit intentionally not shooting him down by tws then go defensive. Then I watch the rwr closely combined with looking out visually in this direction and lying my defensive maneuvers according to this. With the russian missiles I usually get their smoketrails visually and if Iḿ lucky enough I can evade all of them untill I get the bandit on visual and shoot him down with visual scan. But thats just a SP method. Have anyone of You tried to use the VR-modes in MP (as vertical scan) to search for targets which are estimated quite close but You still can't see them visual instead of using the bvr mode with its weaknesses in this area?. I tried several times with not much succsess as the scan coverage of these modes ist even closer than that of BVR-mode. Greetings to all! -
LockonPost Hello everybody! Since now very many people have much experience with the (old) FC2 there are enough opportunities to exchange experiences all about combat tactics. This interests me in the moment, as I switched back to FC2 from FC3 due to its still many bugs and still non appropriate missile flight model. With the following 2 tracks I´ve just flown I show one of my standard trainings excerzises 1 F15 vs 2 Mig29s (Skill high). They show typical ends for me of such duels after evading the first few 77s, then I find it difficult to regain lock or visually detect the enemy and mostly all 3 planes get killed. This is just an example, so You can just tell me Your opinon to my tactics, give me tips or You take control of one of the tracks and show me how You handle this situation. (Which I would appreciate especially from some experienced members) Or please post some own tracks of some similar difficult situations. Have fun! GoodFlightHotEnd.trk StandardFatal.trk

I hope the fps-problem with the ground smoke will be fixed then too. There ist much to fix and I think in the moment fc3 is barely playable and I switched back to fc2.

Are these the numbers fpr the fc3 flight model missiles? Do You have such numbers for the old fc2? Would be interesting to see the differences.

???? Anyway I fired them at diffrent ranges, also far less then 10nm. But to get closer at two bandits with their (alltogether) 12 Missiles is hard work as You can see on the files.

Hell Yeah, thanks man, just tested it! I love it, You get an overview of any mission in seconds!
-
Yeah seems for me You have a really hard time hitting maneuvering targets by 120s. And that´s just after me switching from fc2 Mig29S to fc3 F15 to get to know her benefits.:( To get this some more picturesque, could someone have quick look at two of the missions I´ve just flown. [vs. 2 Mig29s Skill High]. Often they evade all of my 8 120s all shot closer 10nm, except the first 2. Or You tell me perhaps some basic mistakes I do .... Hardfail.trk Damn hard work.trk

Yeah I would appretiate too, tacview was running fine with fc2 but with fc3 I got the same problems (with the install directory) as mentioned. I would really love to use it with fc3 to to get behind the new details :-)

Ok, I get the point. I´m still a noob and just read some of the existing evasion threads and keep practising. -

Yes I think too without labels You have pretty little Chances with this method. With labels though You have some chances with a good timed and flown barrels role. In know this isn't just a simple method to win. -

But one question still Mav, what do You think about vids like this. (I just realized afterwords what kind of emotional discussion on the other thread this guy led to ;-)) According to my experience there is definetly a way to dodge the 120s short before impact to about 50% chance. In this way I dodged two waves of 120s (3-4 each) of 4 KI (high) F15s severel times shooting down up to three of them. Of course this is very difficult to do in an complex multiplayer environent. How You can evade missilse by bleeding out their energy with various maneouvers ist easy to understand and a way of practice but I try to figure out how far its possible to doge them with high g turn as last chance esp. far within the NEZ. Greetings! -

Thanks Mav. I Keep on practising and trying some new things with my own edited tutorials. Maybe we see soon an the 494th panters server. WITH Labels ;-) -

Hmm I wonder how, but obviously need more experience. I tried couple of times but the signal strength shows the distance only very roughly and by labels I knwo that the maneouver hast to be timed up to +- 0,1 sec. How can You do this via RWR? -

Oberst Zeisig replied to Teknetinium's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Yes, perhaps then its even more realistic and the dodging theme is mainly dead. What You said would explain why ist only effectively works when the missile is fired at ranges about min. 10nm so some energy has bleed off already or at very short ranges, where ist hasn´t accelareted already to full speed. Have to check that theme on tacview. But time it to the second is no expression there are milliseconds that count. It only works short before You are hit. This obviously only works with labels so I think everybody has his own opinion to this method ... -

I´ve read very many of the last posts of this thread. I´m now playing FC2 in the latest version for about half year with simulator experience in advance. In my opinion its quite obvious that the 120 is by far the best missile in the game regarding to range and hitting precision. Having read all the Information fererring to real life experience and data I also doubt this is very realistic. But don´t mind, it´s just a simulation where You con play with certain parameters. I prefer flying the MIg29s und Su27 as I like the System-Handling more and don´t just take the F15 for its obvious better Missiles. I´ve tried this notch beaming several times with little success, perhaps need some more practise. Some times You can lose a 120 with a bundle auf chaffs, but I think this is not affected by the aspect to missle. Regarding to my experience mostly in multiplayer You have to choose when the distance is still far enough to bleed the missiles energy through maneouvering or You can just out run it or perhaps hide behind a mountain or You have to face and dodge it. The last I tried also many times in a self edited mission su27 vs 2 or 4 F15 and referring to my experience its actually surely possible to just kinetically doge 120s. But has to be done very exactly at speed about 800-1000 k/ps i an angle quite directly towards and 9g turn towards missile at distance about 0.8 nm. Has to be timed about +- 0.1 sec. (So very exactly) If You can conserve enough energy this can work with 2-3 120s. (Or a group of several 120s togeher). Now question what about these vids of dodging 120s just by smooth barrel roling for a few secs like: in my experience this doesnt work anymore as You got to time the dodge of each missile very exact. Do these vids refer to older versions of fc where the missile ki was worse? So You can forget about training vids about barrel roling?
