So here's the problem. Launching DCS it opens the GUi in full-screen. No problem. Launching the Mission Builder.....no problem Launching the mission I create....Black screen, Loading Message.....nothing happens. Ctrl+Alt+Del bring up the option to kill the process. It does nothing, the computer hangs and I have to reset the PC. The issue I know I have is that my Firewall is popping up a window asking for permission for DCS to access a file or the internet. But I can't say yes as I can't get to the Firewall window. So then I thought..."aha, untick Full-Screen and click okay" as this will minimise the window and allow me to get to the firewall option. Nope! Untick the Full screen button, click Okay....screen goes black, nothing happens and I have to hard reset the PC. So....is there a way I can just enable windowed mode in the config files so that when I launch the GUi and Missions it is always in windowed mode? That way I can get to the Firewall option? This is so frustrating but any help to tell me how to edit a config. file for full-screen would be very much appreciated so I can just launch it in Windowed mode! Thansk for any help, MP

Regarding the FW190 'Bar' which blocks the view in some Sims..great video explanation JG Nemesis put up a great and informative post showing the issues some Simulations have with the FW-190 cockpit 'Bar' which blocks the view in bad modelling: Cheers, MP -
Just waiting for the admin to authorise the link. Very much appreciate you sharing your work, cheers, MP

I'd be interested in this too and am looking forward to seeing the interview. I met Macademic, Dimitri and Erich at the Eagle and it was really interesting to listen to Erich's anecdotes about his time serving in the Luftwaffe. My favourite story of his was about his watch. He still wears his original Pilot's watch from WW2 which keeps perfect time. The funny part was when he mentioned that due to the fact it's 'pressure' proof (having to work at altitude) he also used to wear it when swimming. He realises now that it's a pretty unique piece of equipment and said "so no more wearing it while swimming!" Sadly I was due to meet the trio again at the Flying Legends Airshow on the Saturday but their schedule and mine just didn't match up, so that was the only meeting I had with the guys. I also asked Dimitri to remove the antenna on the underside of the fuselage and also the second antenna on the back of the P-51 (as-well as the squiggly one on the tail), to make it more WW2 authentic on Europe 1944.........crossing my fingers it happens :) Cheers, MP

Best Looking Plane: Piston Fighters of DCS WW2
Mysticpuma replied to USARStarkey's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I voted the P-47....but even in the rain the 51 looks beautiful. I shot this 55th FG "Miss Velma" at Duxford on Sunday :) -
Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp Radial Engine
Mysticpuma replied to Barrett_g's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Love the P-47, here's a video I shot at Camarillo the day before the airshow. From the 1 minute mark we have the wonderful Jug engine :) : Cheers, MP -
Hi SithSpawn. I have to be honest and say I don't feel comfortable with the line "That majority is going to rule in this". When I originally backed the project there were various backer options offered . Going by the line I quoted, I wouldn't have expected to choose rewards in the original phase and then hear that I couldn't have them because the majority of backers had chosen something else. As with most Kickstarter schemes nothing is guaranteed but I would hope that those of us who chose a Physical item could be offered something of equal value? I have to be honest, I was looking forward to a printed manual because I like to have a book open while using the computer, rather than closing windows, opening windows, etc, etc to read a .pdf, I also think it says 'quality'about a product having a printed manual (I remember the days of European Airwar...what a manual that was!) I would really prefer to have a printed manual, especially as I paid an extra $12 for delivery outside of the US, but if Manual's can't be provided as a printed option I think offering a .pdf of each one AND credit for the DCS shop would be a fair compromise. I personally have a few friends I would like to give the chance of flying DCS P-51 and so being able to gift a key to them would be great, but also maybe entice them into buying DCS WWII Europe when it is released. Below is what I backed at and the rewards I chose after the backers section was opened. ------------------------- ALPHA Tier 4. Everything at the $50 ORIGINAL level, plus a digital copy of DCS World FW-190D-9 with beta access (when available in early 2014), and a digital copy of DCS World P-51D Mustang (on successful kickstarter completion), plus ALPHA ACCESS. Original $50 = Everything at the $40 level, plus a spiral-bound copy of a complete aircraft manual for the plane of your choice. Everything at the $10 level, plus a digital copy of all flyable aircraft in the game (this will grow with the stretch goals and possibly end up offering a huge value!) Everything at the previous level, plus early access to the game’s closed beta. ------------------------- After I had chosen these we got an update where we could change the backer rewards and I did just that: Your Selected Rewards Reward Status 1. Alpha Access Accepted 2. Plane manual - P-47 Accepted 3. Plane Manual - P-51 Accepted 4. DCS World FW.190 Accepted Selected Rewards: 4 / 4 So as you can see, I really was hoping for the printed manuals in my rewards. I don't mean to be contrary but it has to be about all the rewards rather than just the physical ones? In one of your previous posts you mentioned that you don't see Alpha access happening with ED but maybe a closed Beta. If you look at my chosen rewards, that is now 3 of the 4 rewards I chose effectively lost. My personal difficulty here is that people who pledged considerably less than me will be effectively getting everything that I did, for at-least $80 less. Now, I'm glad that many of the posters in this forum are happy to waive this money as a gift to ED, but this isn't about charity and gifts, it's about rewarding those who invested in this project to help fund it. It's about Backer rewards that were promised and now may not be deliverable. Now while I appreciate this isn't ED's fault, sadly it's also not mine. So here's my proposal. I'll agree to give up my rewards (except keys to the flyable aircraft I am entitled to) if someone at ED would please remove the twin antenna and replace it with a single one on the P-51 fuselage. Remove the aerial under the cowling and remove the squiggly aerial embedded in the tail. Then we'll have a WW2 P-51 :) PLEASE!!!!!!! Cheers, MP PS. Yes I was serious about the P-51 aerials...dear god, please correct them for DCS WW2

This is in the P-51D add-on Just tried to load a few replays, some from last-Sunday. I get a view of a ground vehicle and that's it. No flight data, aircraft, flying...nothing appears :( and yes I have unpaused it, the trk runs for the original length it was recorded but no aircraft appear (like the one I was sat in and usually appears!) I also just tried creating a new trk (online Multiplayer) after the 1.2.8 update and that works fine in, aircraft all show no issues :) :(

Guys, this isn't a bump for this thread, but it is sort of related to the gunfire effect and I can't find the link to the 'tweak' that helped :( I have followed instructions on how to turn off the smoke and that works fine, the 'tweak' I am trying to find is the one where the Tracer 'lod' 'amount' 'detail' or something like that can be turned off or significantly reduced? I think it was something along the lines that all the bullets or tracer are drawn and this causes frame-rate to drop, but by tweaking a line in the effects somewhere it can be reduced dramatically? I searched 'tracer' and 'tracers' but the threads don't link to that 'tweak'. Can anyone help? Cheers, MP

Thanks for that Whiplash. Can I ask a follow up question. When saving the .dds file, is there a 'best' setting for it, like Explicit Alpha 3,5 etc, etc? Thanks for the advice, just want to give it a try? Also, one more question, has anyone ever created a WW2 pilot mod or do they all have to look like test pilots? Cheers, MP
-
That's about it really. I was just wondering if it is also possible to 'skin' the pilot's face too as I have a few WW2 images of real pilots that I'd like to try on the Pilot skin. Of-course, never having skinned a pilot model, I am sure it's not as easy as just putting it into the pilots folder? Just asking. Cheers, MP

I had a play around in Photoshop and although the image comes out still 'messy' (oh for the original), it appears to read LITTLE 'MAC' KAY or LITTLE 'MAC' RAY. Not sure that helps much, but the best I could see :(

and then I read the rest! "Without the kill markings and without the nose art but just as filthy." Lol, sorry for the false hope ;)

Already done ;) http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/587368/

Thanks, I am very appreciative of your feedback and interest in the issue. This does cause huge fps drops and as I have shown in the DCS footage the smoke, in comparison to real footage, is considerably overdone. Appreciate all those who have added to this discussion and glad it can be looked at revising. Cheers, MP
