I figured that’s why it’s all laid out.
-
About 300 or so maintainers each squadron. It's the most used combat jet in the AF inventory. Ops tempo has been through the roof since DS1. Reliability is relative.
-
What line do I change to enable the AGM-130's in the LUA file?
-
I wonder what's wrong w/the jet. Minus a motor and the CFT removed. Along w/the entire sec power package. It can't be good.
-
Here’s what we call the “secondary power” on the 15. Just some geewiz so you can see what it looks like. 1 CGB, 1 JFS, 2 generators, 4 hydraulic pumps, 2 AMADS, and the panels that cover it all. If we’re at this point in maintenance, it’s going to be a looong night or two on swing shift.

Never did this on the line.

Dude, you and I have crossed paths for sure.

Correct! Would love to see it, but I believe it was still assigned to a FTU during those ops.

Took these pics a few years back at a bro’s retirement ceremony. 86-0186 E004. The fourth Strike built and the first delivered to Luke back in 1988. I crewed her for about 4 years. I believe she’s a 336th jet now.

220 is a great motor for the 15. The 229 is even better. Compared to the 100’s, it’s night and day. Of course the 229 is more powerful. But I never heard a pilot complain either way. They love to fly the jet “slick” w/out CFT’s. I think the flight model we have has a bit of overkill, but overall the 220 is fine. Honestly though, screw what the stick actuator thinks, MX are the ones that have to deal w/it. And us maintainers will probably say we would take a 229 over the 220, just like we would say GE of Pratt.

That’s right, I forgot it was only for the MPCD’s. NVG’s were still new to the strike during my time. I think we had to put velcro on UFC or something.
-
NVG filters on the displays when using the optics.

That’s why I never saw 65’s. SJ didn’t load those.
-
It did. It carried CBU’s. It’s still used in the CAS role, but so are B-1’s and 52’s. I gotta pic some where during a hot preflight for a CSAR alert. 3xCBU-87’s, 4xGBU-12, 1xGBU-24, 2x120, 2x9, and PGU’s.

No JFS START even after JFS LOW disappears.

Yes -- should've been just PITA, no "N" -
Mostly precision. Dumb bombs during training to keep the skills up, but the main focus was GBU-everything. One weapon that's not mentioned is the AGM-130. During my time, it was still being used. It was being trained w/constantly by the 335th and 336th minus the fins and rocket motor.

Exactly what was just explained. OT is Operational Test out of Eglin AFB. They also have a detachment out of Nellis. They are responsible for testing all new weapons and avionics for each airplane type. They essentially give the "thumbs up/down" for those systems. Just because certain weapons are seen on those aircraft, including WA, doesn't mean it's carried in the operational world. However, it doesn't mean other countries that operate those airplanes do or do not carry those munitions because OT/WA may test them for ALL operators. In the nine years I spent at SJ, I have never seen an AGM-65 installed or anywhere on the base for that matter.

Also, the JFS bottles can be charged using a hand pump when the engines aren’t running which is a PINTA for the Crew Chief. -
Anything with “OT” or “WA” on the tail doesn’t mean a thing.

I agree. I set up the pit w/the switches needed for start already on. Ramps, starter switch, generators, exterior lights, DTM installed, etc. I never flipped that one. More than likely it was already on.
-
I just don’t remember having to turn that on. When the JFS is running, it provides power for intercom as soon as the PMG provides electricity. Maybe the switch was just always in the correct position, but I’ve never had to turn it on.
-
On the real airplane, I don’t ever remember having to turn on “MIC” switches to hear my pilots or talk to the guy on the ground if I’m running the jet. Must be a DCS thing
