  1. Engine gauges are not lit and of the six rotary knobs for illumination Only the "console" switch has a function which turns on all the lights(except the engine gauges) I don't have a problem with the other switches having no useful function but I would like to see all the gauges light up during night sorties.
  2. I'm very new to dCS and completely new to mission builders of any sort. What I would like to do is to get some of the P51 starter training missions in the campaign turned into multilayer missions so that myself and two friends I've convinced to buy the module can go through it together. The reason is so that when we're talking on TS3 we are all going through the same thing at the same time and can thereby help each other out and have a laugh while hopefully learning and improving as a squad. I've been concentrating my efforts on the P51 campaign "Mission 07-Navigation" I've added the extra aircraft added the same way points for each aircraft and made them client operated and uploaded the mission file so we all have the same file in the same folder. I can host the session and I can see my friends join the server but on their side all the get is the grey mission loading box and that's as far as it goes regardless of which of us tries to host the mission. We've tried hosting other available mp missions and they load up fine and can be flown(when we manage to get off the ground) I don't want to burden somebody Else's game time with our lack of experience so any help in getting this working will be greatly appreciated.
  3. Co-Pilot/auto-pilot: It's just happened to me again that while on mission i jumped to the door gunner to get at some troops and my Co-Pilot decided to commit suicide and flew us into the mountain side. It's now turned to frustration as I have died like this a few times. Could we please have a terrain avoidance type something added to the AI Co-Pilot to stop him flying into mountains, buildings and power-lines. Maybe have him turn or gain altitude. I've tried the orbit function but seems the AP randomly chooses a direction and size of orbit pattern more often than not resulting in death. I'm guessing that with the advent of AI door gunners this will no longer be a problem since we will be able to stay firmly rooted to the pilot seat where we belong. So just as a thought... instead of having to give commands to them perhaps on opening the doors they can become "active" rather than having to be told "start shooting fools" and have the choice in the "special" options menu to turn on/off "smart AI" vs. "commanded AI" that way people who want more control over them can do so and others like me can just open the doors with a nice little voice over of "GET SOME!" it's a wishlist... I can wish right.. lol
  4. great write up and thx. sadly lacking VOR's much of the useful instumentation is pretty much useless in knowing where you are in relation to beacons other than NDB or broadcasted troop/farp/vehicle frequencies. I would love some VOR's implemented if I only knew how. but much to my dismay my editing skills of such things ends at copy and paste "this to there"
  5. accuracy of the miniguns seem about right being fired from an unstable platform. You have a weapon spewing out hot firey death at umptene rounds/minute ... it has recoil the platform it's firing from is moving and for some of us not very stable or straight. so any side slip will have you way off the mark with regards to where you're aiming and where the projectile lands between time of fire to impact. the best effect against troops I've experienced is at very very low altitude and around 60 knots. If you take an object like an AA battery or lighter and place it upright on your desk... Imagine shooting at it from a high angle of attack vs. a low angle of attack. At a high angle of attack the target presents a much smaller surface area for bullets to go flying right past. so if you coming in high hot and fast guns rattling away with airframe juddering all over the shop it's not hard to undersatand why maybe only one in fifty rounds actually comes close to the intended victim. just my two cents worth as a gun nut..
  6. I don't know if it is possible in real world heli's but I've done similar type maneuvers with my RC heli's that were not designed for it and others which were not setup as 3d models. Even though the models aerodynamics are somewhat removed the from real world aircraft the moving parts(rotor head assembly, swash plate etc.) are pretty much the same. So while undoubtedly far from recommended it might be possible but I have never heard of it being done in any helicopter.
  7. Bump! so either nobody knows, has opinion or nobody has been mad enough to try land on a moving train besides me...
  8. Hi all. I've seen a youtube clip of someone landing on a moving train with the black shark so while on one of Wess24m's missions opportunity arrived in form of a speeding train... "Challenge accepted!" lol Alas... challenge denied! I sort of managed to get in position over an empty flat bed and proceeded to descend onto it and instead of touch down or crash I instead sank right through the train only to do a bad impression of a skateboarder doing a rail slide with a train merrily steaming ahead through me. So here's a question.. Is there a setting that makes objects like buildings, trucks or trains solid "crash boxes"? Or are we just going to be able to fly the huey through trucks and trains(I tried flying through a building.. didn't work quite as well as it did with the train:doh:)
  9. Thx Wess. You're churning these puppies out like there's no tomorrow. great effort and much appreciated. loving your missions.
  10. My current test settings These are the settings i'm currently using with my Saitek X52 and proflight rudder pedals. Not included the rudder pedals because they have not been altered. So far these settings have offered me the best results in accordance with my low level flying skills.
  11. I've all but given up on the so many feet per minute and at X knots descent and have started opting for more of a "that looks/feels about right" type approach. By spending less time with my nose in the gauges and more with my eyes out the window I find that I am better able to react to what the Huey is doing and thus correcting accordingly(ish). At this point my flying is still more of stopping the bird doing what it wants to do and a lot less of making it do what I want it to. But I'm getting better at nudging it towards my goal instead of it constantly trying to kill me... the beast will be tamed!
  12. Not sure if this has been asked before. With the new Huey and it's "old school" avionics and nav gear I find the map and kneeboard sorely lacking in navigational beacons. Yes some airfields have tacan's ils approach's and the occasional ndb but none of that relative information is readily available while having your hands full with an old bird that has none of the modern "flight assist's" ie. no moving map or tacan preset frequencies etc. I would very much like to be able to look at the mission planner and make note of where I'm going and how I'm supposed to get there. Which would be a lot easier if i could bring up the kneeboard and see a NDB or VOR (with frequency) that I can use. It would make it a lot more realistic and challenging if we could properly use our nav equipment to get from turn point 1 to turn point 6 without having to look at the map and go ... yup! it's over there..ish
  13. perhaps the next dcs world update we can ask for ndb's vor's etc to be shown on the map and kneeboard including frequencies instead of just tacan short code
  14. Hi Wess., Just watched the tutorial vid again. at the end when you fly over the troops back the way you came from the needle center's again. I've not seen any "TO" or "FROM" indication on the VOR indicator so with the needle lined up how do you know if you're flying towards the signal or away from it during a mission? or is that something else we need to add to the Huey wishlist?
  15. I encountered the same. But when I switched to the co-pilot seat and disabled the AP I found I could move to any seat without it re-engaging.(not a good idea while in the air though shout all you want from the gunner position she won't stay in the air)
  16. OK! Hasn't made me any happier but after copious amounts of google interaction I finally found the frequencies I've been after... sort of! On the airfield charts TACAN's are labled/numbered/coded as 22X "VAS" or 44X "KTS", 31X "TSK" et. etc. So here in lies the dilemma for us would be Huey pilots. Why dilemma? you might ask... Because you can turn that knob on the nav com radio till it turns to dust and the display still won't read "VAS" "KTS" or anything other than a few numbers. BUT! there is hope yet.. the 22X 31X 44X etc. is the key. so without going into an overly drawn explanation of what a tacan is and how it works and why the codes and numbers..(google is your friend go find out if you "MUST" know) So then, it comes down to a little maths and a few numbers worth remembering or writing down. How it works: on the chart it will say CH22X for example. Chanel 22 is a preset value much like the way you save radio stations on your car stereo. 1 to 16 plus 1343 17 to 59 plus 1063 60 to 69 plus 1273 70 to 126 plus 1053 CH17-CH59 you add 1063 eg. CH22 22+1063= 10850 ie. 108.50MHZ So now you might be thinking "AWESOME!" ... but no... tried the freq's in the Huey's nav com and i don't get a needle response:cry: but with luck this will be fixed or sorted and we might soon all be able to at least know where we were going when we crashed! Just as a side note... Y Channels 17 to 59 plus 106.35 70 to 126 plus 105.35 so if it was CH22Y it would be 22+10635=108.55
  17. All the last 10 hours of Huey flight has taught me is: 1)I have tons of patience 2)I know nothing 3)I can't fly a Huey and land it safely more than half the time. 4)The enemy will get me before I get him! 5)The map needs more vor, vortac, tacan's and ndb's with freq's for easy refrence not codes I need to go search
  18. https://www.dropbox.com/s/c8vjpbvwdz5fng6/Training.zip.torrent I created an extra torrent to help share if more people are needing it. First time creating a torrent so if it doesn't work....:(
  19. There's a nice big empty space on the dash... any chance of a radio altimeter? please!
  20. will seed all week. thx for the files
  21. I've only used the kneeboard in the Huey but mine is to blurry to read. Is it a graphics setting somewhere to get a crisp image or do I need a newer pc yesterday? I can Hardly make out any writing not to mention ndb's vor's etc. for navigation.
  22. And while we're dreaming of future endeavors and rescue, don't forget a smoke grenade or two for pickup's in hot LZ's
  23. Can't it just be uploaded to the dcs user files section? might be easier for everybody that way
