  1. On the odd occasion i use a door gunner I just pause the TrackIR and use the mouse. I usually start by having the doors open prior to needing door guns that way it saves time in getting the weapon ready to fire. Then i center the view and "zero" the zoom/view with the touch of two joystick buttons. Pause the TrackIR and then use the mouse for aiming and firing. And as of late I have almost completely stopped using the flex-sight in favor of staying in the pilot seat because I have gotten to accustomed to the forward view. As for the really crappy track clip pro(I'm convinced the pro refers to problematic) I'm usually on TS3 when gaming so wearing my headset has become second nature. what I did was after bumping it a few times was to put it on get it in a good position where it worked well then applied household silicone(of the bath and sink sealer variety) to all the joints and weak points. It stops it from falling apart and still allows for a bit of "give" when you knock it. A touch with some 200 grade sand paper on the the larger areas helps the silicone stick better. So it's like a nice protective rubber coating. However I have been considering "modding" the design with batteries and attaching it to an "Alice band"(girls hair thingy) which can then sit on top of your head instead of on the side where it can be a bit annoying. I have found that regardless of the position of the led arm it still does what it's supposed to. But I highly recommend the silicone "adjustment" on what is otherwise a pitiful design flaw considering the cost.
  2. Ok so I've seen it's possible to create your own 3d object and put them in the game. How? and with what would I "repaint" a structure or vehicle? also, would somebody be willing to help me put it in the game so I can have it in the drop down menu of the ME to add the same way i can go to the menu structure:FARP Tent.... and then place it where i want it. The ME has no "medical" military vehicles or structures. All I'm really after is a tent like the FARP tent but with a nice big red cross on the top and maybe a transport truck or two or a jeep type vehicle to use as "scenery" to enhance game immersion. *Do any such repaints already exist? *If yes where could i find it? *How do I put it in the game? *will everybody have to have the "repaint" like an aircraft skin to see it? Thanks in advance.
  3. Thx Dragon. That was my mistake. Had to make the other planes "client" to get it to work. took me a while to figure out how to make the "green Frames" for a person to fly through and even longer to figure out why i was the only one that could see them. got it working in the end.. had a lot of fun and a good few laughs and even managed to learn a lot along the way. I've still not gotten as far as flags yet but with luck i'll figure it out and maybe even one day i might even figure out scripting(in a year or six)
  4. sorry for Hijack... just curious. Can opening the door by the client/player be scripted as a trigger? So that in terms of the troops pickup/drop off the troops only appear after you have opened the doors via button/hot-key that way in MP all clients will see the animation as "door open/ door closed"
  5. Thanks for the info. Seems unfortunately my imagination is just going to have to work a little harder with regards to available animation sequences. Just thought it would look awesome seeing a couple of Chinook's with under slung loads flying in behind an assault force dropping in vehicles and containers as the assault force beats clear a path into a hot LZ with all manner of mayhem breaking out around you.
  6. Is there some type of database or pdf that lists the various functions that you can make all the different available "units" do? For example: BMP-1, can: fire on target area, attack target area, follow unit, tow trailer(X) jump over a bus like evil kenevil(not seriously just trying to make a point).. etc. etc. Also, is there any animations or scripting for making an AI Utility helicopter airlift a vehicle or container visually? or is that not possible in the sim
  7. Is it possible to get the Chinook to air lift vehicles and drop them at a designated drop-off site? I purely ask because I want to use it as an "eye-candy" for a mission idea. I've seen some other posts regarding a similar mission idea which sadly makes my idea seem as original as sliced bread but I'd like to give it a go none the less. Basically with the edition of the Huey I would like to incorporate it in as much of it's various roles as possible. With all the numerous MP missions out my Ideal is to create a sort of "prequel" mission to them whereby the FOB's and FARP's are "built" prior to the campaign/mission commencing. Having the Huey insert troops getting attack heli's to "soften" LZ's while the big birds airlift in some of the kit and convoy trucks bring in "supplies" that need aerial protection and so-on. While including as many of the "user aircraft" as possible to create a huge co-op type mission where everybody gets to have a go at flying what they prefer and doing "there job" as it were. I just think it would be nice as a community effort to get all the different aircraft types working together in one big mission initiative rather than just anti tank strike for (X)planes or convoy S&D for those.. etc. etc. instead of jumping from server to server to to do a bit of this and then a bit of that.. Also I'd like a bit of input from you guys in terms of : "NO! your idea sux!" or "Yup.. I'd like that" before I go spending a week or two chasing my tail trying to make it work.
  8. I have to un-tick much of the "pretty"... small price to pay for keeping the Huey looking mint. I'm about three months away from a new motherboard, processor and ram bundle.... save skimp and save some more...but I like gaming more than beer... I don't miss the beer!
  9. to figure out the msl all you need to do is place you cursor anywhere on the ME map and it tells you what the msl is along with the lat and long of that point. It displays on the bottom information bar at the base of the screen. I used three conditions: 1)altitude less than,if alt is stated for that area as 200 i made it 205 2)speed less than 2,if you have wind at ground lvl of 5m/s obviously add the minimum speed to that 3)unit pitch limit, a possitive of 5 and a negative of 5 for if the ground you land on is sloped. that way you have to meet all three conditions before the action becomes "true"
  10. Trains: I would like to have moving trains that I can place on the tracks and have them follow a waypoint system like I can do with cars buses tanks etc. for use in missions like ... Runaway train train with a bomb hijacked train And with that I'd like to see a flat bed coach with AAA on it or one of the open coaches I can put a load of insurgent with AK's and rpg's on it. Destructible bridges would be nice too.... stop a convoy getting from A-B by taking out a road bridge over a river. Use the Huey to insert troops onto a hijacked moving train... that sort of thing. lol I have an imagination to rival B.A Barracus's Bling and a stagnant mission editor..
  11. I have a friend who's a software developer/programmer and as he has said to me... "sometimes you have to break something in order to fix three or four other things" Anyone who has ever tried building a new mission will have discovered to do one thing something else might have to go until you can work your way around it or make it happen the way you want it to. Software like the Huey is no different than putting new features into MS office in terms of programming... you change a bit of code and it might or might not have an effect on a different bit of code. At the end of the day the Huey IS getting better and so many posts and "arguments" arising from new issues is not needed. This is STILL a Beta release and as such we who are already flying are "BETA TESTERS" to a certain extent so getting annoyed with a minor detail like files being misplaced(something windows does all day long) which is easily sorted is pointless, you have the choice to either put the Huey aside and wait till the final release or you can accept that it's A Beta release and just be happy that you already have it and have been enjoying it. After all... we could all still be sitting on our hands with no release waiting for all the little issues and quirks to be ironed out while the Dev team are banging their heads against coded walls. I've got a jar full of pennies... so just my two cents!
  12. That's exactly what it says. Dutch is not far from Afrikaans seeing as it was the base language which spawned Afrikaans but Flemish is much closer.
  13. Just played through a bit of this briefly and had to jump back on the Forum. When I heard the first Voice over I couldn't help grinning thinking to myself "Yup this cousy is definitely a boertjie" great mission! Not been back in RSA for just over 8 years glad to see I won't be flying alone when I eventually move back there. Been away so long I didn't recognize "Mandella's Y-Fronts" on your VSAAF banner the first time.
  14. I fell in love with "real" start procedures for the first time with PMDG's JS-41 for FSX ... It's not a great "fun" aircraft to fly, it's ridiculously expensive and the FPS is criminal...BUT! if you don't do it right it won't work and that's why I love it same with A2A stuff.(although A2A is excellent all round) As for hardware issues I think most people that enjoy DCS will or do have the "better" type of hardware with more than enough switches and toggles etc. to not have a problem with a button they "can't see" As far as realism goes I paid for the DCS Huey because i bought the ND Huey and the aerosoft Huey and neither gave me the "realism" so many of us hunger for. I also have the 206dodo and DCS trumps them all but "can" still be better.
  15. Hi all. Is the Master server down or something? I was on earlier today briefly and now I can't connect. NVM. working now again.
  16. incendiary's are probably most affective against soft targets and by that i mean the cloth canopies on the back of trucks also a few rounds through the grill is bound to start an oil/fuel leak and with so many rounds/minute ripping into an engine compartment or the soft, 'usually' external fuel tanks on the side of trucks even tracers would set fire to most things flamable however I don't have the stats on what temperature they might be at relative point of impact or at what temp diesel ignites... Either way, If I can kill a truck in the game by shooting at it... what the hell.. I still grin like a lunatic when I squeeze that trigger and the Huey breathes hot fiery death like a dragon at everything in it's path. At the end of the day the old girl is a multi-role utility Helicopter and the gunships were primarily used to make the enemy run for cover and I'm pretty sure that in it's era of operation it's intended soft targets being humans and dodgy wooden boats it is and was most effective. Send an attack helo to attack and use the Huey to do what it does best... put a huge grin on your chops while flying it.
  17. The NAV lights seem excessively bright I "WISH" they could be less bright. I know this might only be personal preference but having the Huey lit up like a xmass tree in the dark is just not cricket!
  18. I've also got the X52. I gave the base of the stick a good clean where the spring is with some "AFC electrolube"and applied a small amount of grease which I use for the bearings in my model RC heli's because it was sticking slightly(don't use wd40 or a thin oil it will only make a mess and it's a dirt magnet). I started out flying the Huey with a 25 curve on pitch and roll and made it less and less as I improved. I now have a curve of 10 with no dead zones. You can get a tiny tube of bearing lube/grease from almost any RC model shop for 3 quid or less and a good switch cleaner from any electrical/electronics store I got mine from Maplin's here in the UK
  19. Tried it again worked fine this time round. Think it's time for a pc upgrade seems I get delays in triggers and text when the system is taxed heavily Also had a few hiccups when text came on screen(momentary screen freeze) so I think the problem is I need more than just 4 Gig ram and my I3 chip doesn't seem to always have what it takes.
  20. Yes and engine shut down. At first i though i hd wrong heli pad so i started up again and landed on the other two as well... no joy. About to fly it again... will see what happens.
  21. I did "race against time" last night. second attempt I hauled ass like the devil himself was on my six picked the guy up and even dropped him off in time. got back to base got landing clearance landed on "my spot"... then nothing! ended mission and got mission 50% complete. now have to fly it again... Is the injured guy supposed to die?
  22. I'm not sure if this can be classified a bug or not but it's something that's been bugging me. When at higher altitude and speed I quite often turn control over to the Co-Pilot to light a cigi.. take a sip of coffee etc. but it seems the higher and faster I'm flying the more intent the Co-Pilot is in trying to rip the collective right off it's hinges it would seem. Normally all I get is the low rpm warning but this evening during a campaign mission the Co-pilot yanked the collective up so Violently at around 4000feet doing 110(ish) KIAS that I got rotor separation. Needless to say I was not amused at watching the main rotor go spinning off in the distance as I plummeted towards an unexpected early arrival. (edit) Just did a little experiment. Flew low level red lining the speed, hit the autopilot and he took control quite smoothly tried various speeds and altitudes and it's definitely A problem at high speed and altitude. The Autopilot first dumps the collective to full zero then yanks it back up to 100%. I got the Huey at 3500feet doing 95Kias put on the the AP and let it settle then i moved my stick rudder and collective to the same position as indicated and trimmed it there. After disengaging the AP the Huey flew almost perfectly "hands-off" when I re-engaged the AP it dropped the collective to zero then yanked it up again but because I was going slower it didn't go full collective. the higher the collective value at the time of AP on the more violently it gets pulled up and the longer it gets kept at full.
  23. New FM? ok sweet so I dropped all curves and saturation's to zero.... this bird's still like my psycho ex-girlfriend except that 99% of it's attempts to kill me is successful! (edit) I stand corrected! Started up DCS and the updater did it's thing... and here I thought I'd already updated the Huey. Had to add a 10 points to pitch and roll curve because of my ham-fisted nature and now I only die 70% of the time. My landings suck and my hovering... well I can't call it hovering it's more like a prelude to disaster but I'm having less difficulty than I had before. I've come to the conclusion that I'll never be a great sim pilot but at least I'm enjoying every second of it.
  24. I fly radio controlled helicopters and I have noticed when I turn down the gyro gain for more scale like flying when you get them going backwards at a fair lick they do nose up a bit and then bank left bringing the nose round in a left up then down arc. I have found though, that the nose up situation might seem like a tendency, but it's mostly controller related(my fault) because you add collective and cyclic to increase speed and maintain altitude thus resulting in the nose sometimes abruptly pitching up. I've not tried it with the Huey but If I were to hazard a guess the Huey should throw it's nose up and to the right due to rotor direction( my Rc whirly birds go left-clockwise rotor) I'm purely guessing but aerodynamics might also be a key factor in the Huey's behavior as the rearward speed increases. Also, the stabilizer would aerodynamically become a brake forcing the tail down... seems logical(to me at least) But most of this is purely speculation with a touch of thought and a bit of experience as far as building things that fly goes.
