  1. Most likely down to wearing glasses in the headset and having them touch the lenses. I see a company now offering a custom insert for prescription lenses. That should solve the problem for people who can't wear contact lenses.
  2. He can't. Just the viewer can. It's post production. Trying to give people an impression of what VR is like.
  3. I don't think it has anything to do with dcs. It is most likely down to ATW.
  4. My big fear with Vive for dcs is the lack of asynchronous timewarp. It's something I've mentioned many times. I know they have their own solution for frame drops so hopefully performance will improve in steamVR by the time your Vive arrives.
  5. Sounds like you are still using steamVR to run the dk2 which makes no sense. I posted a reply in the Oculus thread with something for you to try.
  6. How are you getting chaperone lines if using the oculus runtime. Are you sure your not using the steamVR wrapper? That sounds strange but I've no way to test it at the moment. Close steam and launch oculus home - enable unknown applications in home settings. Then navigate to Programfiles(x86)->steam-> steamapps->common -> DCSworld folder find run.exe and launch it. Alternatively if you have the standalone game just run it. See if there is any improvement. Press ALT and PAUSE/BREAK to show your fps. Forget fraps for VR.
  7. My seat is progressing well. I've no need for the inflatable trousers as I only really fly helicopters. Ha. For me it's less about high G-force and more about feeling subtle movement. I'm also incorporating the vib motors from a gametrix Jetseat into the pressure flaps. Link to the build thread in my signature for anyone interested.
  8. Derek I think you should try the integrated audio first before removing the speakers. By all accounts it is excellent quality and a lot more comfortable and convenient than an added headset. Based purely on reviews of course as I'm still waiting for rift to ship.
  9. Anton a stalled wiper motor can pull 15amps or more. The supplies I listed above are readily available on eBay and are very reasonably priced. I'm sure Rico can give you an idea of normal amp draw in use but if using the supplies you have be sure to add fuses.
  10. Lol. A couple of Mikado Logo 600 RC helicopters.
  11. The power supplies I have to hand are Hewlett Packard DPS-600pb designed to be hot swapable for use in servers. They are the same type and rating and from the pin out they feature a 'current share pin'. Many use them in parallel to run chargers in RC. I had a set before connected in series :-o Not the safest thing to do as I had to have a floating DC charge on one and isolate it from earth on the AC side. Powering a 1300watt charger they sure charged my 12s lipo batteries quickly though lol
  12. Got the bench supply on hand with an inline low amp fuse ;-)
  13. Good info Rico. I think I read that some optoisolators will invert PWM signal. It is a beyond my electronics knowledge however. I'm going to stick with plenty of fuses and a powered USB hub for now and hope I don't have any mishaps.
  14. Thanks Anton. I'm watching your build with interest also. Good luck with your project.
  15. March estimate now updated to end of May. Just in time for the two week long Irish summer lol. I think it will stay in the box for a while. I don't envisage spending time in front of my PC if the sun is shining. There's real flying to be done!
  16. Not yet but I know Simshaker can output to a different sound card than your game audio.
  17. Way ahead of you Amraam. Posted several pages back: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2741306&postcount=6673
  18. There is and the answers range from: -beef up your system (don't know how I can go much better) -use lower settings (I have them as low as they go) -turn down shadows (I have them off) -mod the game to use settings from 1.5.2 (In other words roll the game back because the 'progress' that's been made makes it run worse in VR). That thread has been going around in circles like that for months without any formal acknowledgement of a problem or that anything is being done about it!
  19. Thanks for the helpful tips. I have a large mushroom kill switch for the front of the seat just within easy reach. I was going to rig it to a relay for the power supplies. I'm using two server supplies which I think I can safely connect in parallel. I have not yet started work on the base mechanism. The struts supporting the flap pivot points are not secure yet so I will bolt them in place rather than weld/rivet to allow for adjustment. I like your force potentiometer idea. Please share details in your thread if you implement it. I mainly fly helicopters but had considered having two X-sim profiles to tailor the forces for the faster jets. I was afraid if I set max deflection for say 9g/-2g that I'd have too little movement when flying helicopters. I have an account on Xsimulator also. I actually found it before x-sim. I decided to go with X-sim as its what Bergison used. I do find the software very convoluted. Regarding your ground loop issue are you sure your motors were isolated? The wiper motors I got required modification as the motor housing could become live when rotating in one direction. I'm not familiar with optoisolators. Could you please share a link and how you have them connected? The last thing I want is damaging my motherboard. Any suggestions on how to ensure that won't happen would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
  20. Poorly optimized game engine. We are waiting for ED to implement improvements.
  21. I'm using Andres Simshaker software for buttkicker. Much better than in game audio. It allows you to choose a source other than your game audio.
  22. Thanks Rico, I have followed your G-Seat thread. Have you any videos of it in action? Are there any pitfalls or mistakes that you found that you could warn me of in advance? I will be calling on your expertise once I start interfacing X-sim and dcs ;-)
  23. Tested have published a comparison of Vive and Rift. Very interesting for those that are on the fence about which to get.
  24. It doesn't track anything automatically. You steer the missile using a small joystick while in flight. The missile is connected by wire to the helicopter. Slow moving targets can be tracked but it's done manually. It is not a fire and forget system.
  25. updated original post.
