Not everyone. Just one person trying hard to educate us. You haven't missed anything.

I don't think Facebook has anything to do with it. The producer of simpit projection systems. Which do look fantastic by the way. I really would love to have the space and money to own one.

I wasn't going to let myself be drawn into this but that post and picture is just nonsense. The fact is no image posted on a 2d monitor can give a true impression of what the rift looks like. The reddit image was wrong and you were right to point that out but posting images like this make me question your motives. We all know dev kit 1 is low res and it'll probably take a few iterations to get to a perfect resolution. Yes I am a rift fanboy as are most in this thread. Not all of us can afford wrap around rear projection screens and several projectors!

Public inquiry. What is your PC video card?

$30k for a booth! Did ED get any press coverage for their money? I've been looking at E3 coverage and have seen nothing apart from the screen shots on the previous pages. I know ED had some issues the first few days. Looks like an expensive week for little return!

This is what I meant when I referred to control VR. I think you'd need to see the avatar arms move with your own like in the controlVR video for it to be worthwhile. That poses other potential problems though. You'd need your physical controls to be positioned correctly to match the virtual cockpit, one to one movement of your controls versus the virtual controls etc..... Don't get me wrong it would be great to have this but without the animated avatar I don't see it being any more useful than the trackball on my collective that I'm using now. At least not at $600 for two arms. If they succeed in adding haptic feedback next year as planned then I'd consider it but I'm convinced it'd need an animated avatar.

We need a virtual pilot presence (avatar) before I'd go for controlVR. Otherwise we have the same disconnect that we have now.

There are a lot of factors that contribute to vr sickness and low frame rate is one of them. The low persistence technique in dk2 will require even higher frame rates to work correctly. I think the refresh rate is 70Hz. It's hard to say yet how lower than 70fps will look on the new kit (the consumer version is rumored to be 90Hz).

The rift dev kit version 1 is no longer in production. They can only be purchased used. I sold mine on eBay last week. Any of the videos you've seen are likely DK1. The dev kit version 2 has been available to pre order for a few months. They are sold first come first served. The first kits are expected to ship in July. If you were to buy now I think it will ship in August. None of us have used dev kit 2 so can't say if it's worth purchasing. You could buy a dev kit 1 but it will be used and could cost more than a new dev kit 2 (mine sold for a lot more than I paid for it). Finally there's the consumer rift which is hoped to appear before the end of the year. No specs have been finalized. Unless you're really desperate I think you should wait and see how things pan out with dk2.

I agree. Can't believe the resolution was as bad as he says. Greasy, fogged up or wrong lenses for his eyes maybe. By zooming slightly with DK1 you can read gauges. DK2 should be better. Unless OLED pentile is a major step backwards. We should know next month. I wouldn't discount OR completely remember these are dev kits with max res of 1080p. Consumer version is expected to be 1440P.

Same problem here. No keyboard or joystick interfaces working for me in game since last update (non steam). Tried a repair and it made no difference. I didn't try it in non rift mode yet.
-
Correct. It is all already there and available. Your monitor settings in DCS and any monitor LUA scripts should have no effect. If they do then the implementation is wrong, if eye separation is off then the implementation is wrong, if the image doesn't fill the screen (which it doesn't) then the implementation is wrong..... On the plus side we are still in beta so I hope it will be done properly before long.
-
I tried it hoping it may have been the NDA governed version used by ED and that it might fix the black borders on the current implementation. I didn't notice any difference though. My image is still too small. Nice to see oculus adding more refinement. Screen to lens measurement and users eye to neck distance (pivot point) are now included.
-
I agree. The FOV is off due to black borders. The rendered image is not filling the rift display. This has nothing to do with lenses or distance from eyes. I removed the lenses to confirm. The rendered image is not making use of the full display like other rift software does. Apart from that and yaw drift it's really good.

I have the same fear. I'm a big fan of x-plane and although I built a new PC last year I don't see myself having the grunt to get high enough frame rates in that sim. I think I'll be ok with DCS unless EDGE brings much higher demand. I read a lot of comments saying less will mean more in the rift. In other words turning down eye candy in favour of much higher frame rates.
-
Here you go Hannibal. I made a short 'out and back' video with the Mi-8. FOV will be wider in the rift as I have removed the right eye to show you an off screen view.
-
Make sure you have installed the 1.2.8 DCS world beta. Then extract to Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\bin

I have the same graphics card. No issues for me. Not sure if it will help but have you tried with aero interface disabled?

For those of you wishing to read the radio menus while in the rift don't forget to check out this fantastic mod from PeterP: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=76225 I have configured my radio menu to 170% and it is now in the centre of the rift screen (set vertical offset to 300 and horizontal offset to -350). You can also click on the commands rather than use the keyboard. All credit to Peter for this fantastic mod. As this is a beta rift implementation it is not advised to install mods. I have found no issues with it so far but use at your own risk!

I think the IPD might be correct but the images are still not filling the rift display (black borders). The presence of these borders may be causing the perceived IPD issue as the two images are not rendering on the full screen. Alex it's really close to being perfect. Warp and scale look good and only minor yaw drift on DK1. It needs tweaking to have the image fill the rift screen. Is it also pulling this info from the rift API?
-
I agree and I'm really afraid that the implementation didn't follow the correct procedures in the SDK. I hope it's just a simple mistake in a line of code and not a botched implementation. I had hoped we would have recieved an update on the issue today. If not a fix then some explanation of the problem.

That windshield is very well done. When using the oculus rift I just want to land and get out and clean the damn thing!

I searched ad didn't find this request. I'd like to have an animated pilot body in the pilot seat as an option. For use with oculus rift this would greatly add to immersion. It's very off putting to look down in the rift and not see your limbs. A phantom cyclic and pedals moving on their own just doesn't feel right.
-
Excellent. Thanks for the link Flagrum. I look forward to trying this.

I've had great fun doing this. As I'm using the oculus rift I can't use the cargo cam. It would be great if we had an audio Q. A voice alert on the intercom would be awesome. Load master "cargo attached" or something similar. Especially as hook and unhook are mapped to the same switch its hard to know if I am hooked up and then dropping the cargo again (by repeated attempts and pressing the same button twice).
