Rudder Not Returning to Centre
lmp replied to martinistripes's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Autopilot yaw channel is on? When the yaw channel reaches it's limit it starts to physically move your pedals. It's by design. -
Mi-8 - a few things during startup would lead to interrupt startup
lmp replied to Maverick24's topic in Bugs and Problems
Here's my go. Tested in Kobuleti (28m ASL) in default weather (20 deg. C). I turned on the power and the systems, let the APU spool up, waited 1 minute, as told by the manual, and started the engines. I measured the time with the stop watch in my cell phone from the moment I started pressing the START button. - Revolutions dial started going up after 5 seconds. - AUTO IGNITION ON went out together with STARTER ON at 60% RPM - 50 seconds - Temps peaked at ~680 degrees - Idle after 55 seconds Only the AUTO IGNITION ON light behavior was inconsistent with the manual. -
Feature Request: Class Infantry , side Red PKM or other heavy MG
lmp replied to Johnny_Rico's topic in DCS Core Wish List
MGs and HMGs are the main threat in low intensity conflicts. We have plenty of aircraft which don't really work well in a high threat environment but are a lot of fun in COIN scenarios. I think a bigger variety in available machineguns is a must. I would also suggest perhaps a Dushka/PK on a Hilux truck. -
What I actually do most of the time is set the sight to 70ish (90ish for OFP2), start shooting at 2000m and break off at 1500m. Usually I'll get two bursts off this way with good enough accuracy.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you only get a table for the lighter rockets in the cockpit. If you want to use OFP2 rockets (and you should if you're not attacking armored targets), you'll have to consult the manual. Only make sure you're using the good one. I recently noticed the one linked in the forum thread has errors in the tables. Use the one that came with the game. Bad tables: http://imgur.com/a/asATI Good tables: http://imgur.com/a/BUkW4 In the good tables in the top row you have velocity (100 - 250kph in 50kph increments) and in the left column you have range to target (1000 - 3500m in 500m increments). I understand the green cells are the recommended launch parameters - so 1500 to 2000m at 200kph. Those settings are the ones I use and they work well enough.

While I understand why it was done this way, the fact that having your z axis centred is treated as if you took your feet of the pedals means you're going to struggle with the "yaw channel always on" approach. In the real thing when the pilot puts his feet on the pedals he can count on the yaw channel not interfering with what he's doing. In DCS you'll have it turning on and off all the time. Because of that I tend to fly with the pitch and roll channel on and I only turn on the yaw channel when I specifically want the feet-on-the-floor heading hold functionality. This approach is also described in the manual as the preferred way in the Russian Federation.

What are user's impressions of F-5E's flight model and systems modeling.
lmp replied to DaveRindner's topic in DCS: F-5E
While I haven't checked the FM against performance charts, it seems to be pretty well done and believable. AFAIK it's the only BST aircraft (for now) that has ground effect properly modelled. It's similar to the MiG-21 - which I see you own - in that external stores and fuel load have a big impact on performance but otherwise it's quite easy to handle in all flight regimes. It's one of my favourite aircraft to just fly around. As far as systems are concerned, the RWR implementation is, let's say, controversial. You might want to look up the discussion in the bug thread. The radar and the rest of the avionics work great. Another controversial topic is the gun dispersion which seems to be excessive. Regarding ruggedness, it's a small, unarmored aircraft - you won't be shrugging off missile hits. One thing that (used to) break a lot is the Air Data Computer. I don't know if they changed it, but it's not something that'll bring the aircraft down anyway. On the other hand - two engines. And not a lot of systems to break. If you want to do some serious IMC flying, this is not your plane. There's no ILS, no ADF, no marker beacon receiver, no radar altimeter (!)... You do get TACAN and a homing feature in the radio to get you around the map, but nothing to stop you from flying into a mountain. Are two AIM-9s enough? It can be challenging with just two. You need to wait for good opportunities, save them for when the enemy tries to extend etc. When in doubt, get closer and gun 'em instead. Also I have no clue about MP, I don't do MP. I don't find the countermeasures any more or less effective than in other aircraft, just keep in mind you don't get many. A-G weapons delivery is entirely manual. You set the sight depression to a value from a table in the manual, initiate your dive at a given IAS and altitude, make sure your dive angle is right, and release when you reach the right altitude. It takes practice and even then you won't be CCIP level accurate. One problem is, the tables we currently have are rather lacking. Is it worth getting? In terms of just features-to-money or combat potential-to-money, there are other modules with a better value proposition. But I really like this plane, despite its limits. I like and fly it more than planes I *should* like and fly more, if you get what I mean ;). -
I sat in a TS-11 Iskra trainer as a kid once. That would technically be the closest. Besides that I saw plenty of military aircraft in museums and at air shows - most of the teen fighters, almost all MiG variants, a Viggen, a Tiger II, a Su-27... which unfortunately crashed in front of me :(. The University where I majored owns a MiG-29, a Su-22 and a few other a/c. I get to see those fairly frequently. Recently I've been seeing Hinds flying by a lot... probably to get me hyped for DCS: Mi-24P ;). Now that I think about it I saw quite a lot for someone with no IRL military experience. It never gets boring though!

Looks like this problem has been fixed :) https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3206776&postcount=30 Thanks BST!

why speedbrakes are fanned out during cold start?
lmp replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in DCS: F-5E
Realistically, a voice confirmation (or warning, if you missed something) from the ground crew would do the job. We already get a warning if we try to taxi off with cables still attached, this would be a logical next step. Having animated ground crew working on the airplane would be nice of course, but I think it's a bigger task than most people think. Different services in different countries have their own procedures, uniforms etc. Getting all that right and then modelling, animating and programming it is a massive effort to achieve something we'll skip half of the time anyway when we start on the runway or in the air. -
They're no silver bullets. In a tight turning fight it's hard to get a good enough firing solution for them to hit. At the same time, MiG-21s (most of the planes you will be fighting in fact) can easily extend out of gun range and - if you don't have an AIM-9 to send their way - out of the fight.
-
That means you're drifting 10 degrees to the left in relation to the ground. It has nothing to do with the course set on the coordinate calculator (which doesn't even need to be on for the drift indicator to work). It's an independent instrument with a different purpose, the only connection it has to the coordinate calculator is that it uses the same doppler sensors. No. Yup, 7km and increasing in whichever direction the flag is telling you (left or right). Cancel the drift with your pedals and stick.

Both modules are playable and fun in solo. In fact, they have to be. Multicrew functionality is still in development for the Mi-8 and UH-1 as are some other features (like overheat engine damage for the Huey). I wouldn't say you're getting an absolutely complete product with any of these two. For the most part the aircraft themselves fly and work well, but some of the features "around" them are either not there yet (multicrew) or need some further development (sling-loading, troop transport, interactive checklists). I've spent more hours in the Hip than in any other module and I can honestly recommend it, but if you're not willing to wait for some last few features to be wrapped up, maybe try something else. Give the Ka-50 another go perhaps? Since you already own it. There's plenty of content (missions, campaigns) and once you get to know it a little bit, the systems aren't THAT complex and automised... nothing like in the A-10C. Deep down it's still an 80s machine.

I tried a six pod layout and a 2,3,4,5 layout with the same effect. The stations with FCUs worked, 2 an 5 didn't.
-
I managed to troubleshoot this some more. Rockets don't fire from stations 2 and 5.
-
I've had this happen twice recently. I was practicing strafing ground targets with rockets. On the ground I turned on the three left most circuit breaker lines, then the big red master arm switch, then the "ГЛАВНЫЙ ВЫКЛЮЧАТЕЛЬ РС, ГУВ" switch. Afterwards I set the "УПК-ПКТ-РС" switch to "РС" and finally held down the "ВЗВЕДЕНИЕ ПУС" button to arm the fire control units until the appropriate lights came on. So far so good. I took off, got to my target, aimed and pressed the trigger. A single pair of rockets launched, the ПУС lights went dark and that was it. Holding the "ВЗВЕДЕНИЕ ПУС" button turned the lights back on but when I held the trigger, they just turned off again without launching any rockets. Am I forgetting something, is this a modeled failure or perhaps a bug?
-
Yes, the one next to the temp gauge. Yesterday when I tried it after turning the inverter off the indication went to 0.
-
Ok, I think I figured it out. In order to pass the first step you need a good pressure indication. And in other to get that, you need to have power in the 115 VAC system - either through ground power, the ПО-500А inverter or from the generators. Ground power isn't mentioned anywhere in the checklist, the ПО-500А is turned on in a later step and naturally the generators can't provide power because the engines aren't running yet. I believe the checklist should be modified so that the ПО-500А is turned on before the APU. Also, there's a discrepancy between the manual and the checklist. The manual says the СТГ-3 should be off when starting the engines while the checklist wants me to have it on.
-
It does start up. The temperature stabilises at ~620 C. The АВТОМАТ. ВКЛЮЧЕН light turns off and the ДАВ. МАСЛА НОРМА and ОБОРОТЫ НОРМА lights turn on. The pressure reading is 0 though.
-
No, that's the engine start procedure. It has nothing to do with my issue. I'm having problems with the "after APU start" automatic checklist. Specifically, the first step is to observe normal APU operating parameters - this never happens.
-
When doing the after APU start checklist I get stuck on the first point. Is there anything else I should do besides turning on the APU and waiting for the two green lights and temp to stabilise?
-
When in the ME I open the failure tab for an Mi-8, it isn't displayed.
-
It worked for me yesterday. Maybe try toggling numlock first?

someone explain the air pressurisation system
lmp replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in DCS: MiG-15bis
Those are only used by the ground crew. One is for refilling the air tanks and the other for performing maintenance tests of the pressurisation system. Leave them closed. -
Seems to be good as well in 1.5.7?
