I've just noticed the AI performing a pairs takeoff and subsequently watched a four ship AI land as 2 pairs. Is this a new thing or am I just too old and have't noticed it before. Either way, well done ED, it makes waiting for a pair to depart a more pleasant experience. :) Cheers, WB.

Great series, thanks for posting Sydy! WB. -
Radio Channelisation - not implemented?
Whiskeybravo replied to Whiskeybravo's topic in F-5E Aggressors BFM Campaign
Thanks Sabre, that'll be awesome! WB. -
Is there any reason why the channelisation is not input at the mission design phase? Having read through the SPINS and In Flight Guide documents provided with the campaign missions I was expecting to be able to use the radio presets once in the cockpit but this doesn't appear to be the case. Happy to admit I might have missed something though! :) Cheers, WB.

PointCTRL - Finger Mounted VR Controller
Whiskeybravo replied to MilesD's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
This device looks awesome. What a great addition to the immersiveness (is that a word?) of this sim. My order is in and I look forward to using it. Regards, WB.- 3421 replies

Great find thanks. I only have the OB version, can anyone confirm that a simple Repair also fixes the issue? EDIT: Running Repair seems to fix the issue for me. Cheers, WB.

Likewise, same issue. Another patch and another controls issue! I despair!!! WB

Hi feefifofum, or can I just call you fee? :) Thanks for the info I'll take a look at that link. The Surface Go runs Win10 but I wouldn't have enough space for a full install of DCS. It would also struggle massively with cpu/gpu performance but I think it could handle basic ME operations. Cheers, WB.

This may be a wishlist item and I think there are a couple of mission generators available but I was thinking it would be nice to be able to access the mission editor without the full sim. The reason being is that I sometimes have free time when I'm away from my sim pc but I usually have my Surface Go tablet with me and it would be great to be able to create missions with it. I could then send the .miz files to my sim PC and be ready to go. Wishful thinking? Cheers, WB.

I was expecting my order to arrive some time in December but was delighted to find it waiting for me when I got in from work on Friday evening. I had the same issue as a couple of posters above re the short cable inside the throttle housing. Fortunately I had seen the above posts so was up and running within an hour. Maybe an amendment could be made to the installation instructions to cater for any other users with this issue? Once calibrated and setup up in DCS it has been a great upgrade to my WH. Great service from DeltaAlhpaLima1, thoroughly recommended! :) WB.

Hi folks, Thanks for all the info. Now up and running with my MFD's. Takes a bit of getting used to in VR but they're a great addition. WB.

Have you had any luck with resolving this issue? Regards, WB.

Wow, now I remember why I don't get too involved in forums (fora?) anymore. Anyway, I think the original posters question has been answered with lots of good info on altimeter setting procedures. After 18 years service as an RAF air traffic controller I think I have a pretty good understanding of QNH, QFE, SAS, transition altitude and flight levels etc. My question in response to Frederf's assertion that ' You're in a tactical arena. Don't use 29.92; real USN pilots wouldn't.' was a genuine question to find out how the USN operates if they don't use 29.92. I understand there will be a locally valid pressure setting mostly updated with hourly met observations but do USN aircraft fly this throughout the mission? I'd have thought that having everybody on the same pressure setting ie the SAS of 29.92 once above a prescribed transition altitude would be the easiest way of ensuring everyone was 'singing from the same hymn sheet'? This also helps to avoid possible collisions in IMC conditions by ensuring adequate separation criteria. Just interested to know how carrier ops differs from land based ops with which I'm reasonably familiar even if it was a few years since I was 'operational'. And glad I don't have to spend a few minutes before each DCS session working out the transition layer and quadrantals! :) Regards, WB.

Just out of interest then, what do they use? WB.

This is great, however, when i try it most of the game menu is obscured by the ceiling of the carrier room the view is in? WB.

I'm just getting into the F18 and have completed basic startup, takeoff, circuits and landings etc. I know there are numerous videos and web pages that show how to do the various aspects of operating the F18 but I was wondering if anyone has sight of the actual syllabus used. How many hours would a new pilot be given for basic flying before moving on to the more complex operating systems and then on to A2A and A2G weapons employment. I've downloaded the NATOPS flight manual and got excited when I saw mention of the flight training syllabus in Chapter 5 but there's not really much info there. I realise the level of training will likely depend on a pilots previous experience and qualifications. Also, it seems, that a lot of flexibility is given to Sqn commanders to train members depending on the likely requirement of any upcoming mission/deployments. I guess what I'm looking for is a bit of a structure to make best use of my practice time to get the most of this amazing module. Regards, WB.

Thanks for all the replies. I realise the MFDs would be slightly different for the F18 but with 5 buttons along each side they match that way as far as OSBs are concerned. Also, I'm hoping the rocker switches on the TM MFDs will be mappable to the BRT & CONT knobs in game. I've pulled the trigger on the MFDs anyway so I'll report back with how I get on. Cheers, WB.

I'm away from my sim PC for a few days so can't check the controls options in DCS. I'm thinking about getting a set of the TM MFD panels but was wondering how you program the buttons. I don't recall seeing OSB1, OSB2...…. etc in the DCS options pages so am I just mis-remembering it or is it a simple case of assigning MFD OSB1 to DCS OSB1 in the appropriate aircraft settings? Thanks for any advice, WB.

Hi Hollywood, I'm still having issues after moving my DCS install despite following some readme advice - see post above. Bizarrely voice comms still seems to work (using the F5E at the moment) but the configuration window still won't show which module is loaded. It also has the flashing BCN text and displays EASY COMMUNICATIONS:On despite EASY Comms being set to off in the DCS options screen within DCS World. Any clues? Could I uninstall VAICOM and re-install on the same drive as my DCS install? And thanks for an amazing program BTW, I think we sometimes forget to appreciate all the hard work that people like you do for our community! Cheers, WB.

Ditto the above. Would love to get the idle detentes working like they do in the F5E. Also, I know you can move the little widget between the throttles to change from an idle detente to an AB detente but is it possible to have both? Is that what the Shapeways widget enables? Regards, WB. EDIT: Having just examined the widget already in my Warthog I now understand how it works. I've been misunderstanding the way my Warthog throttle works for about 6 years!! Sorry.

Sorry to be a pain but I too am having problems. I recently moved my DCS install to another drive and now VAICOM PRO cant find the install. I've tried numerous solutions from the posts above including DCS Repair and manually installing the lua files as per the instructions on page 33 of the manual. I've also set the new DCS path in the config window option. Anything else to try please! Many thanks for any help. Regards, WB EDIT: Now this is getting strange, all appears to work fine in game - I can talk to the crew chief and Tower. But the config window (see second image attached) will not show which module is selected. I am currently using it for the F5E. Any ideas!? EDIT2: After reading through almost all the posts in this thread, I'm now looking at using a Symlink to fool windows into thinking I haven't actually moved my DCS installation. I have used the 'Custom DCS Parent Folder' in the VAICOM configurator but it had no effect it appears.

From Bunyaps post about the campaign: "Fuel management is critical and the entire route does not have to be flown at low level and at high speed. In fact, these will be very short missions if you do because you will quickly burn through your fuel. Engine RPM settings of 1800-2400 and boost settings of no more than +2 were the norm when out of combat and will allow you to stay in the air much longer." WB.
