Hi all Does anyone know if there is a link to the Huey manual? I want to be able to access it via my iPad, that way I can open it up in kindle and have it to hand whenever I fly. As it stands its a pita having to tab in and out of the game to get a gander at it. And I don't fancy printing it out if I can help it either ;)

Anyone tried the instant action night time mission? The one where you follow the other Huey? I thought I was doing well until he turned his lights off!! Managed to follow him for another few minutes as I caught the odd glimpse of him here and there. Just to make things interesting he goes up and down like a kangaroo on a pogo stick. What chance have you got? Anyone managed to complete this?

I definitely wouldn't describe the landings as boring. It's real edge of the seat stuff when I come slewing in sideways screaming for my daddy :)

Thanks all for the input thus far :) . Just to clarify one thing.... I don't really have a problem with flying per se. I can take off and land the Mustang quite well (ok, so the Huey is a different matter). It is the actual systems, and engine management etc where I need to do all my learning. Areas which had hitherto been glossed over in the sims I had flown prior to DCS. I cold started the mustang yesterday, following the manual, and decided to get the thing airborne. Took off without issue, text book in fact, but for one minor point....... My engine wasn't being managed. I hadn't gained 600' before my engine packed up with a bang. I'd obviously neglected the mixture or something similar. Anyhow, I had to do an about turn as the runway faced the ocean, had neither height nor speed to play with so stalled into a block of flats. Not text book, lol. All as a result of being ignorant to the systems operations. I have much to learn ;)

To be honest I think the argument for the a-10 is as good as any. If it has more missions and missions of a higher quality than the other modules then I would be a fool to turn my back on all that it has to offer. I think, in my heart of hearts, that my love lies with the Mustang, but it just sits so oddly in the DCS world at the moment. Maybe things might change at some point but I doubt it. Because I think if it were to have "period" adversaries added, then the whole world would also have to be brought into line, i.e. period buildings and vehicles and ground weapons too. Which would then be incompatible with all the modern stuff, and I can't see ED operating parallel worlds. So, alas, the Mustang will always be a "dipper" for me I think.

I'll look into the maple flag missions when the time comes. Thanks :). As regards the Huey flight commander - I had the pleasure of his company last night for my broken mission. He certainly knows how to rile a fellow doesn't he :megalol:

Thanks Echo 38 for the offer of some "virtual instruction". I know that it's definitely the way to go for both cutting through the jargon, and injecting some fun into learning. I really wish I could take you up on your offer, but, at the moment, I have a lousy internet connection so any multiplayer is an absolute no-no for me. A huge pity, and something that I really have to rectify asap. Boris was also good enough to offer a similar service via pm a short while ago. Much appreciated guys :)

Maybe that's not a bad idea.... Taking off and landing the Warty isn't too much of a problem for me. It's quite stable. Maybe I should use that as a starting point and add in the navigational side of things next and just try and get around the map using the various nav systems, flying from one base to another. I can look at weapons and comms a bit later down the line. And maybe use the other modules as "dippers" for the time being. Trouble is though, the flight models on both the Mustang and the Huey are just so delicious it's kinda hard to leave 'em alone :)

Hi all I'm relatively new to the world of DCS, but have been sim flying on and off for many years now. Or at least I thought I had been sim flying...... Looking back it all now seems a bit "arcadey" compared to the incredible amount of detail offered by the DCS models. As a consequence I've sort of hit a bit of a brick wall as I'm gonna have to learn to fly these craft pretty much for real. I know I can dumb things down a bit in the options, but I won't. It's full real or nothing I'm afraid :P Now, my problem is where to focus my limited time? I purchased BS2, A10, Mustang and the Huey (Oh, and FC3 too but that's not really relevant). I've pretty much ruled out getting anywhere with BS2 as not only do I need to learn how to fly it I've got to learn the kryllic alphabet too :helpsmilie: So, of the remaining three each have merit...... Mustang - The simpler of the bunch and fixed wing :) Huey - I just love the flight model, but jeez it's lively A-10C - I've got the Warty HOTAS - It'd be a shame to waste it  It's quite funny really, as when I first sought out DCS I looked at the craft for sale and thought that there was very little on offer, just 4 measly craft and and FC3. Where as in reality, there is many, many months of learning ahead just to get a basic handle on any one of them. Up until now I've just been dipping in and out of the different models without really making any concerted effort to "learn" any of them. Just little sight-seeing flights and spot landings etc. Oh, and strafing runs but without the gunfire as I haven't learned how to arm any of the systems yet . So, basically, where best should I focus my attention? As an all-round experience? Taking into account the fun factor, the flight model, and the enjoyability of the missions offered within each module? I did try one of the missions in the Huey last night but it seemed to be broken, so that just ended up being another sight-seer. Any suggestions?

It might be worth just checking the axis assignments as the sim likes to be a bit random out of the box. When I first tried the mustang I found that the throttle had been assigned to control the rudder. Just a thought......

Thanks. I shall start the first one tomorrow after work. Much appreciated

Hi all I've been thumbing through my back issues of PC Pilot Magazine and have decided to follow through their tutorials as a way of introduction to the A-10C. Each tutorial is accompanied by a mission file which has to be dropped into the sim. Knowing that DCS and it's various modules have been updated quite a bit over the months will these mission files still be fully compatible with my DCS install? I don't want to cause any upset to my currently stable setup. Cheers in advance :)

It's like I'm playing Microprose Gunship all over again!
bilbosmeggins replied to hansangb's topic in DCS: UH-1H
Have to echo everything above. The Huey has got an amazing feel to it. The whole thing just feels alive. I tried the oil rig landing mission earlier. First attempt and I lost control, ditching it into the sea. Second attempt I managed to hit the bullseye. The landing felt a little rough as the front screen cracked. Then I switched to the outside view to find I had completely smashed my tail in half. God, this thing is tricky. I think FSX has made me complacent over the years, lol. -
As regards the TrackIR, it needs to be up and running BEFORE you fire up FC2. A light should come on the TrackIR as FC2 fires up just to let you know that all is well.

I was trawling around on youtube and stumbled across this: Felt it was probably the best sim video I have seen to date. I know there are some absolute crackers out there. Anyone else got any personal faves they wouldn't mind linking?

Using the TM Warthog Hotas with the Mustang
bilbosmeggins replied to bilbosmeggins's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
That's the whole point. It's expecting very little. This is the Warthog HOTAS, of which ED has a great deal of experience with (If I'd made the controller out of cardboard tubes in the potting shed I'd be inclined to agree with you). If you were to tell me that each user of the DCS modules had a different controller setup for each craft flown then that would make some sort of sense. But I would be incredibly surprised if they did. Most use just one setup to cover all bases. Therefore, as a natural consequence, compromises have to be made when flying other modules. Put another way, the Warthog HOTAS is being widely used to pilot craft other than the A-10C, by consumers and developers alike. So share them out. It's not like the code is going to be hard-wired in and you are stuck with a profile you don't like now is it? Customisation and alteration is always an option. Alternatively, just let things lie the way they are. And make "hurdles" and "inaccessibility" become by-words for ED's products. -
Using the TM Warthog Hotas with the Mustang
bilbosmeggins replied to bilbosmeggins's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
As I said in post 14, all that is being asked is that the modules can at least be piloted. I have a certain amount of experience of configuring input devices built up over the years. I can get by. Just about. It sounds like a lot of you have a great deal more experience than I have with configuring and setting up. And that's great, and I applaud you all for it. But how about the absolute newcomer to flight simming who has heard great things about DCS? Does it seem fair that he/she is going to completely fail to control the aircraft even in arcade mode? It could put them off for life. And I even went to great lengths to explain that of course I realise that the Warthog HOTAS is unique to that craft. No one is asking that every switch, dial and rotary be mapped perfectly. It's not possible. But "...in it's most basic of forms" is all that is asked. And, as Tailspin45 quite rightly said, these profiles already exist. No-one is asking for ED to embark upon a load more work. Just share them out. Make them available. And as regards this thread just being an excuse for having a whine........ I find that quite offensive. I have a life. I don't get a kick out of moaning for moaning's sake. I believed (and still do) that I have a valid point. If you don't agree then that's fine and all part of life's rich tapestry, but please don't try to turn it into some sort of war. That's what the sim is for :) -
What? Me hitting a mountain? ;)
-
If they were to tie in real-world weather as currently experienced by the region depicted in the sim then it would be epic. That way everyone would be in the same boat in multi player, but with only the very skilled pilots able to operate "instruments only" in poor visibility. Which straight away puts me at a disadvantage as I'd be the first one to hit a mountain ;)

Can't have all this lot going on without the scream from the Stukas.

A10 Gau8 Impact Video-Real or Fake??
bilbosmeggins replied to Weedburner's topic in Military and Aviation
Also note the way the camera slowly pans down to follow the route of impact. Pre-detemined, as it was fake. Loved the footage prior to the ground-up view though..... -
If you do it through DCS World doesn't it just automatically update/patch it for you?

Thrustmaster Warthog: Think I Found a Good Price
bilbosmeggins replied to Juris's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Well done that man :) -
Just picked up the latest edition of PC Pilot and they have printed a preview of the Huey. And they like it...... They like it a lot!! Made a very good read, and it is nice to see how it has been received by such a well respected magazine. I just need to find the time and get my Huey airborne now :pilotfly:
