That looks just about perfect. Thank you :) -
Most complete full fidelity modern fighter?

Thanks. I’ve no doubt I’ll get to experience the F14 further down the line. But, for now, the JF will be my new ride. -

Don’t count on it.There are times when I can barely write my own name without my tongue coming out  Nah! I’d rather just stump up some cash and have something that actually works as intended, and doesn’t look like it’s been cobbled together by a blind monkey. -
Now that some time has elapsed, and you’ve all had plenty of time to test, are you all still happy with it? I’m looking at it from a VR user’s perspective, and it looks ideal. In like, easy to memorise, and easy to trail a hand across, blindly, and locate the right button. Quite a few of these kicking about at good prices atm.

Most complete full fidelity modern fighter?
bilbosmeggins replied to bilbosmeggins's topic in DCS 2.9
Thanks Jester. I’ve settled on the JF-17. The F-14 wouldn’t be a consideration for me, due to the two-seated nature of it. I never fly multiplayer, so would never have a true co-pilot, and don’t like the idea of the AI joining in. I’d rather orchestrate my demise all by myself. Plus, the AI has shunted me up the arse so many times on the runway during training missions that it beggars belief. I don’t want that level of intelligence coming along for the ride, lol. -
Most complete full fidelity modern fighter?

Having had a bit of a read-around based on your various suggestions, I think the JF is probably the one for me. Aside from being fairly “complete”, I gather it also lends itself particularly well to VR, due to the large displays. Thanks everyone :) -
Most complete full fidelity modern fighter?

Thanks folks. I’m going to disclude the Mig21Bis for no other reason than I don’t particularly like it. The Viggen looks interesting, so will keep that as a possibility. I know the A10C is probably the most polished of the lot, but I already have it. I shall try and learn it some day, but it doesn’t excite me enough at the moment. -
Most complete full fidelity modern fighter?
bilbosmeggins replied to bilbosmeggins's topic in DCS 2.9
Thanks for the comments thus far. Although I should just emphasise that I would much rather have complete than capable. Though I’m sure that the F18 is devastatingly versatile, and formidable. I shall have a good look at the JF-17 in the meantime. To be honest I would be over the moon with an SU-27, or modern Russian fighter, but there doesn’t seem to be anything like that available, apart from FC3. Not sure if anything is in development. So, for the time being, I want to spend wisely. -

So what’s missing, and is it coming? -
Hi all. I own the Huey, A10C, P51 and the KA50. From that list, I’ve only really put any time into the Huey. The P51, aside from having a great flight model, is too limiting. And the A10C and KA50 a bit too intimidating. Now, of late, I’ve been flying the Su25T almost exclusively, and really enjoying it. So I’ve decided to purchase a full-fidelity modern day fighter. Initially, I was looking at buying the F-5E as being a good stepping stone towards the more complexities I’m to face coming from FC3. However, checking the sub-forum, it seems that quite a few people are a trifle dismayed at it’s incomplete state. And that seems to be a recurrent theme across the various aircraft. So, of all that’s available, what would be considered the most complete model, in terms of all systems functional, and a complete and robust flight model? Not trying to stir thing up. I just don’t want to spend my hard-earned cash only to find that I can’t fire x missile, or the radar has yet to be modelled or whatever.

Thanks for that. Although I would have wanted pitch, roll and yaw to be addressed. If I had the skill and know how, I would have a crack myself. -
Hi all. Does anybody know if there is a commercially available trim box being produced anywhere? Preferably UK or mainland Europe, but I’d take anywhere to be honest. I’ve googled around, but to no avail. And I’ve also contacted a bespoke button-box maker to knock one up for me, but he wasn’t interested. I would have thought these would have been readily available, given that most flight simmers have need of one. I don’t need anything too elaborate. Just three rotary knobs that are clickable to reset to neutral, or, even better, have a central detent.

Probably better leave it alone then, until we’ve all got 3080ti’s. My system can’t cope with current demands, never mind extra workloads :(

Spinning clouds aren’t just unique to my system then. Phew! That’s a relief :D

A couple of Warthog HOTAS questions.....
bilbosmeggins replied to bilbosmeggins's topic in Thrustmaster
That looks like a great solution. I think I shall get one ordered. Having a usable slew on the throttle would make a huge difference. Thanks for the heads-up :) -
A couple of Warthog HOTAS questions.....
bilbosmeggins replied to bilbosmeggins's topic in Thrustmaster
Thanks Antoine. I managed to get the axis recognised, so that was good. Although it is almost useless as a slew control. Played around with the axis, and curve settings, and made it a little better, but still not great. I had a quick peep at your Joystick Gremlin thread, but that is a bit too deep for me. Maybe at a later date. I’ve got so much information coming at me with this sim, that my brain is already having a meltdown, lol. -
A couple of Warthog HOTAS questions.....
bilbosmeggins replied to bilbosmeggins's topic in Thrustmaster
Thanks both. That is very helpful. I shall have another look at the slew control. So far, I haven’t been able to get it to register any input, apart from when I fire up the A10C. I’m trying to do things directly from the DCS setup menu, as I don’t really have the skill set for TARGET, let alone modifying input files. Much appreciated :) -
Firstly, how do I assign the slew control on the throttle to anything? If I load up the A10C, and go to the setup controls, it appears to be recognised as a joystick. However, if I then fire up the SU25T, I cannot get the slew control to show itself so I can assign it. I’ve tried it in the AXIS category too, but to no avail. Secondly, the flaps switch..... What does the central position, MVR denote? The switch presses down, and appears to be a button of some sort, but I cannot get it to register any input in the setup. Cheers :)

I do think the training missions could do with fleshing out properly, and revamping in many cases. I tried the SU25t “Hard Landing” mission a couple of nights back. It involves flying to an airfield in a severe storm at night. I had three very frustrating attempts, as I diligently listened to everything the instructor had to say. Not once did I spot the runway, despite flying until my fuel was almost up. Round and round I went, convinced that the plane’s instrumentation and computer was bugged or defective. Eventually, I headed to YouTube, to find someone flying the same mission. The runway was clearly visible for them. It was only when I trawled through the comments that I chanced upon someone asking, “Where the hell is the runway?”. Turns out that contact has to be made with ATC, announcing that you are inbound, and then they will turn on the runway lights. So, I returned to the mission, armed with this new knowledge and was able to locate the runway, and make a successful landing, albeit on my second attempt. But the point is, those vital steps were completely omitted in what is, after all, an introductory training mission. I was close to giving up on the mission. And, if it was a newcomer’s first dabble, that could have very easily been someone walking away from the sim altogether. Not everyone will seek solutions outside of the game. Fortunately, I’ve sort of picked up on the fact that there are gaping holes in the software, and am prepared to source the solutions elsewhere. But, IMHO, that doesn’t make it ideal or right.

That’s partly why I was looking at the F-5 - as a bit of a springboard towards high fidelity models. That, and the fact that I do tend to gravitate towards smaller planes anyhow. Plus, I believe it was quite a well received recreation when it was released. The KA-50 still fills me full of dread. As I said in my opening post, it was the first thing I ever bought. Not only was it unbelievably complex, but everything was in Russian too, to further make me feel completely out of my depth. Although I guess there is an English cockpit for it now. I never got around to upgrading to the second version. That may have to wait a while. I do have the Huey for my helicopter antics, and absolutely love the flight model. I’m actually not too bad at flying that, though I’ve yet to learn the weapons, and haven’t memorised a cold start yet. But I will. Well, when you put it like that :)

Thanks for the kind comments, guys. I hadn’t even conceived that anyone would really read it, let alone respond :D

Thanks for the heads-up. To be honest, I first heard about them a couple of weeks, or so, ago. So I headed on over and had a look but was a bit dismayed to discover that it was high fidelity models only that are covered. Which makes sense, I guess, given that the FC3 content is the beginner stuff that thickos like me are supposed to understand, lol. But I do have my eye on a certain F-5E Tiger II so I’ll definitely be using Chuck’s Guide for that one.

Total Controls Multi Function Button Box
bilbosmeggins replied to JackFlash's topic in Total Controls
Will the number pad be automatically recognised as a number pad, and replicate the number pad on the keyboard, or does each key have to be programmed/mapped? -
Had a look at these videos that you recommended, and I have to say it was a great call. The amount of information this guy puts across is staggering. And all delivered in a manner that I can understand. Now I can TRULY begin to make sense of what I am doing. Thanks again :)
