  1. So it looks like the general consensus is that I should go for it. Thanks all for your input. I shall update later this evening when I return home from work :)
  2. 1.25. Should I or shouldn't I? I've been keeping an eye on the forum since the release of 1.25 and have deliberately held off updating until now. I was quite concerned about people experiencing problems with the Huey in particular, as that is my main vehicle. And I've noticed quite a few wishing to "roll back" to 1.24. What's the general consensus? Does the good outweigh the bad, or should I still hold fire whilst the bug-hunting continues? :noexpression:
  3. I know, I already own it :)
  4. It'll never happen. Wind would have to be properly modelled. Strength and direction, as it is now, just would not cut it. We would need thermals properly generated from source, with drift and dispersion accurately realised. And all relevant turbulence surrounding the thermal accurately reproduced. Ridge lift with the appropriate rotor on the lea side of the ridge, venturi effect, wave lift, it just goes on. But I must say that if it ever did I'd be right at the front of the download queue :)
  5. Thank you for the detailed response. I shall give it due consideration when I have settled down a bit. In the meantime the Huey bug has bitten quite hard. Due, primarily, to the engaging flight model. Managed to fly a combat mission today with some success and I am totally enraptured. Despite some technical issues with it (no auto-pilot for me) it really is something quite special. I have, over the past few days, tried to get to grips a little with the Warty, but haven't really felt the love. I fully appreciate the authenticity, and incredible degree of fidelity and complexity. But, when push comes to shove, the flight model just seems to be a little sterile for my taste. This isn't a criticism of the sim, just a reflection on what a stable aircraft the A-10C is. The Huey, in complete contrast, is just a ragged bag of nerves that constantly wrestles and tests the pilot. And it's this that I love. And the added bonus of not having too many systems to learn to be able to realise its potential. I appreciate everyone's input , and never thought I would come to favour a helicopter over a fixed wing, so I am more surprised than anyone. I just need to start doing some missions now :)
  6. Well it's completely broken for me. I cannot engage any of the auto-pilot modes from any of the four positions, and the screen point-blank refuses to display weapon and auto-pilot status. I've checked that the keyboard combos work in setup, but, once I start flying they will not respond at all.
  7. Thanks for that. At least I'm on the right track with saving each column. It would be a lot easier if it could just save the whole profile. Either way, it's still not working properly for me. I'll have another play later starting from a completely blank page. See if I can't get things to stick once and for all. Never had a problem with saving profiles in other sims/games before. Something is definitely amiss somewhere.
  8. Not sure if my install is broken or if I'm doing something wrong. I just cannot save my profiles properly. At first I thought that after creating a profile for the chosen craft, I could simply name the file, save it, and then call it up whenever I returned to that craft, and all controllers would be ready to go. But all I was getting was duplicated categories. So then I figured that for each craft I would need four profiles - 1 for keyboard, 1 for rudder, 1 for throttle, and 1 for joystick. But now I'm getting it so that the configuration is just not picking up all the parameters that I've set. If I dare to switch from plane to another I pretty much lose everything. Someone suggested in another thread about deleting the INPUT folder if I lost the A-10C settings and the game would simply reinstall them when I next fired it up. This worked a few times but now the game doesn't bother anymore. I realise that there are different "layers" for each model and I am careful to map and save to the relevant one, but it's just not happening. It's now reached a point that I have to stick with whichever craft I've chosen for as long as I can as I know that I will be looking at a blank/broken profile again as soon as I switch. Just for the record, when I save a profile it does indeed save. And when I come to load a profile it's there for the choosing and does load. It's just that the end result is not the desired one. Can someone please confirm whether or not each profile does indeed need four separate saves for the four devices, or whether one save should embrace all controllers? It's really getting me down and is reaching the point where I don't want to fire the sim up as I know that I've pretty much got to configure it every time. Anyone?
  9. I know that youtube is a terrific source of info. Thing is, for the sheer size of the training downloads offered in DCS, I was kind of expecting them to be interactive and a hell of a lot richer than they turned out to be. I was hoping that youtube would be the backup, and not the primary info source. As good as youtube is, I find that by the time I've returned to the sim I've forgotten half of what I've just watched. It's an age thing :(
  10. Hi BeachAV8R. I love the way the tutorials are structured, and having a tailor-made mission file and handy print-outs for each session is a truly great way to go. Can you reveal whether or not the Huey will be getting any tutorials in PC Pilot, or does it need to come out of beta phase first before it can be considered?
  11. Good new then, thanks. One less control to worry about during flight :)
  12. Just a quickie..... I'm more of a fix-wing sort of fellow and don't really know that much about helicopter flight. I'm just sort of fudging it as I go along. Just wondering if the throttle plays an active role during flight or is it just a case of cranking it up to full power and then controlling everything via the cyclic, which is what I am doing at present? Naturally I'm using the rudder pedals too, lol.
  13. Thanks for the link cichlidfan. I shall have a peruse and maybe see if I can't coax the Shark off the ground (and straight into the side of a mountain) at some point. Much obliged :)
  14. Ah, as I expected then. Thanks for that. I'll put my limited bandwidth to better use :)
  15. Yes, the A10 ones are great. But it's the separate install ones that I'm curious about. Just trying to save myself from several wasted hours of downloading if they are gonna be sub-standard.
  16. Hi all I just went to check out the training files for the Froggy and realised that I had to install them. This I did, and the install was fairly large and time consuming. The end result, however, was very disappointing. Just really poor quality video files, where the narration is barely intelligible, and the text a struggle to read due to the low resolution. Can anyone tell me if this is about par for the course for the training videos that need separate install? I was going to install the BS2 training files and the FC3 ones (which is an enormous install!!), but, if they are of a similar standard to the Frogfoot then I shall leave them off the hard drive and use youtube instead. Anyone? :)
  17. Well, I've had mine set up for a while now, and it is just superb for the price. I've got the canopy setup with it, and it is completely dark inside with just the illumination from the screen and the HOTAS (I now need to buy a backlit keyboard). The unit is absolutely rock-solid. The sliding shelf hooks up to the arm rests, forming a totally stable base for the stick and throttle to sit on. It is so comfy with my arms rested on the arm pads perfectly positioned for controlling the A-10C. Couldn't be happier really as a no nonsense quick fix. The seller still has some single seat options left (which is how I've configured mine) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Computer-Desk-Workstation-Gaming-Arcade-style-Enclosure-/251296652787. A snip at £59. Tempted to buy another and put it into storage.
  18. Hooray!! It's finally on the iPad. Downloaded it onto the mac, then squeezed it over to the ipad. A bit bizarre as the mac runs Safari as well but it was more than happy to open the file. Bloody ipad pulled a face every step of the way, lol. Cheers SiThSpAwN :)
  19. "Safari can't download this file". Back to plan B methinks. Bloody computers, lol!!
  20. Oh, well done that man :) :). And now I feel like a gormless tit  I did look. Honest  Cheers
  21. Yep. You are wrong, lol. Thanks for trying though. I'll try sticking it on a USB drive, loading it on my laptop, sending myself an email with the manual as an attachment, and then try and open it on the ipad that way. An awful lot of pissing about...... :megalol:
  22. Alarm bells are ringing ;)
  23. I'll have a peep. Thanks :)
  24. Will an ipad sync up to a pc being a different operating system? Never tried that before
  25. Thanks for that, but I already have the manual via the Huey download. What I need to do is get it onto my kindle and I can't do that from my install. I don't have my sim pc hooked up to the internet. I need to access the manual online with my iPad so that I can then transfer it to my iPad kindle app. Then I can have it on my lap when I fly.
