  1. I took the plunge and bought it. I don’t know if it’s the placebo effect, but it does seem kinder to my system than the Caucasus region. I flew over one of the main cities (Abu Dhabi?), and there didn’t appear to be any additional load on my pc. So very pleased from a performance point of view. Only downer is that, apart from the F16’s one mission, none of my preferred modules have a single thing to do on there. So it’s aimless flying, or quick-gen missions. I’ll have to have a scout about and see if there are any missions I can download.
  2. I’m on the case. Thanks. I had contemplated doubling my memory to 32gb, as I think it would help my cause quite a bit. But, with 3080’s imminent, plus Zen 3, I’m hoping to buy a whole new system as soon as possible.
  3. Thanks both. Probably worth giving it a try then. My system is mid-range..... i7 6700k, 16gb, GTX1080ti. But I’m a VR user, hence why I’m right on the edge of acceptable performance.
  4. Hi all. Just eyeing up the Persian Gulf scenery in the sale. Just wondered if it’s a frame-rate killer or not? Currently, I only have the free Caucasus map, so that is my yardstick. If the PG is less efficient than that then I shall probably leave it, as I’m right on the edge of acceptable performance as it is. Any thoughts?

    SALE!

Well, I managed to bag the F16 in the sale for future use, so I’m a happy boy :) Also had some air miles from a previous purchase or two, so got a further discount. Ended up at just over £28. Result! :D
  6. That’s good news if true. I aim to take my current PC to my place of work (I work away from home a lot), and fly DCS spare time. Meanwhile, I shall be having a nice, shiny new PC here at home, also for DCS. But I don’t want to have to purchase all of my modules again. Can anyone confirm if I can have my account running successfully on more than one PC?
  7. I find GR to be quite informal, and, usually, straight to the point. And, most of all, a comprehensive list of tutorials all under one roof. But we all have our own set of preferences. The point is, there is plenty of useful help on YouTube.
  8. Go on the Grim Reapers’ YouTube channel. There are tutorials for each aircraft, and each category, navigation, comms, weapons etc.
  9. VR all the way. And the Rift S is plenty good enough for DCS. There are better HMD’s available, but, by the time you’ve throttled them right back in order to run DCS anywhere near smoothly, you’re in RIft S territory anyway. And VR is leagues above Trackir. If this COVID thing ever ends, you’re welcome to test mine (Kidderminster).
  10. Well done. And happy flying :)
  11. Also, consider looking at the Grim Reapers’ tutorials. They have sh!t-loads of them on YouTube. And they always do one for setting up a HOTAS for each plane, and always strive for some consistency between different aircraft. Which is important because, for the most common functions, you only need to learn the layout once. For example, flaps, trim, gear up/down etc will always be the same.
  12. What he said :D
  13. The first time I tried the SU25t the plane went crazy too. Checked the bindings, and there was a lot of conflicts in the axis controls. Clear ALL of the axis commands in ALL columns, and start from scratch.
  14. If it’s calibrated in Device Properties okay, and it does what it is supposed to in the DCS control menus, then it is probably a trim issue. Bind trim up, down, left and right to your hat switch on the top of the joystick, and try flying again. And if it’s climbing when it shouldn’t be, trim it down. But you can check the axis calibration first in the DCS control menu. Simply pushing the stick backwards and forwards will show the centre point of the calibration.
  15. Well, if they are gonna leave it in a dusty corner to fester, then I shall just readjust the way I do things. I’m all about supporting development teams, and am more than happy to pay full whack. However, if they are going to sell me half of a plane with the promise of the other half to follow, and that promise is not kept then I shall only buy future planes during sales periods. Half a plane = half of the money that I would have gladly paid. Then neither parties has any cause for complaint. That seems about fair.
  16. Yeah, it’s not the end of the world. Now I know, I can just flick back and forth until it works. It’s like some of the old bangers I’ve driven over the years. Just give the gear stick a wiggle, to slip it into 1st, or make sure it’s pointing down hill when the batteries a bit iffy ;)
  17. That’s a shame. It would be nice if they could ease up on development a tad, and prioritise fixing what people have already paid for. I get the distinct impression that these smaller, minority models, will just get abandoned, and all resources get pumped into the more prestigious F/A 18’s etc. That’ll teach me to not follow the herd :D
  18. Okay, so I’ve just re-flown the mission, and the distance meter was, again, frozen. So, I took the TACAN out of T/R mode momentarily, then flicked it back again. After a few seconds the HSI reset itself, and this time the distance gauge worked. So it IS a bug. Is this likely to be addressed at any point I wonder? After conducting a bit of a search, it appears that the TACAN is fairly borked anyhow, and people have been pleading for it to be fixed for a fair old time. Fingers crossed, eh?
  19. Not sure if this is a bug, or if I’m missing some vital step somewhere. Right, I’ve tried the navigation training mission, whereby the TACAN gets set at 31X. I follow all of the instructions to the letter, and all of the information gets sent successfully to the HSI, including distance. However, once I start to fly the course, the HSI does it’s thing except for the distance refuses to count down, and remains static at 59 miles, which is a pain in the arse. I’ve tried it a few times, and each time it is frozen. I’m on the latest stable version of DCSW. Any ideas?
  20. Thanks for the suggestions. As much as the F/A-18 is probably a great module, and incredibly capable, it would have been far too much of a learning curve for me. I don’t have that much experience with all of the various systems, so need a manageable first step into the high fidelity planes. Anyway, I ended up going full circle, and went with the F-5. I had my eye on it from the start. Naturally, I would have liked a campaign and more missions with it, but there are some decent training lessons with it. Had a quick go earlier and absolutely love it. It handles a lot differently to what I have been flying so far. The roll rate is incredible. It also seems that a lot of the mapping has been already been done for the Warthog, closely mirroring, where possible, the layout of the F-5. Obviously I still need to tailor it to what I am used to. Overall, I am very, very pleased with It so far. I think it is going to be a very useful tool, and a fantastic springboard. It also appears to lend itself really well for vr, with all, but a couple of tiny pneumatic gauges, being easily read. And, being a simpler aircraft, the controls don’t disappear behind me, so I don’t need to be a contortionist to reach all the controls So, once again, thanks to all who chipped in. I shall certainly refer back to all the advice given when I purchase my next plane.
  21. Blimey! I hadn’t even considered if there was a campaign for it. That’s a bit of a poor do then, especially as I don’t own the Nevada map, nor did I have any intention of buying it. Always thought it seemed a bit pointless. Guess I better have a bit of a think.
  22. I do like the look of it, but definitely want to buy a single-seater. And if I procrastinate much longer there will be another sale come along ;)
  23. Well, the F-5E is still kinda calling out to me, as that was my initial attraction. It’s only a matter of time before I own it, and the JF. So it’s just a matter of which order I purchase them in. With my general ineptitude, the F-5E is the logical first step. Just wish I’d have tried them both during the “free period”, instead of fannying about with the Harrier. Oh well, too late now. The F-16 isn’t really on my radar irrespective of it’s build state. Maybe it’s something that may appeal further on down the line. Just wish we could have a spate of modern Russian planes to redress things a little. I would deffo get the wallet out then.
  24. Not too much of a fan of the F-18 if I’m honest. I prefer something a bit less refined. I like to “feel” a flight model, rather than any fly-by-wire. A bit like the P-51 I guess. I think I’m more of a fan of the actual flight side of things than I am a weapon-head. Although I do like the odd explosion :megalol:
