  1. I made a video explaining the basic usage of a few systems in the MI-8. It covers the doppler hover meter, drift indicator, and navigation system. In addition to the doppler system, the tutorial also covers ADF navigation using the ARC-9 for navigation between NDBs, and navigation with the ARC-UD for search and rescue operations. I've finally figured out how to get youtube to take my video at a proper resolution, so it's even in HD. How fancy. ;) If you can give an accurate count the number of "uhms" and "ahs" in this video, I'll give you an internet cookie. It's hard to fly and talk at the same time, while simultaneously looking deliberately away from where you're going. Hope this comes in handy for some people. :pilotfly:
  2. I'm still waiting for the ability to turn dust protection on and off from a keyboard or hotas.
  3. Then what about radio assists, or easy communication settings in the gameplay menu of the options window?
  4. What happens when you set both inverters to Automatic, instead of having the 115vac set to manual (or is it off)? I always set my inverters both to automatic. It shouldn't make any difference (unless its off), but we're bug hunting, and that's a difference between what you're doing, and what I'm doing, and the electrical system is kind of buggy.
  5. I wanted to try sling loading on the MI-8. I succeeded, and then I had cargo to carry around, so I decided to take it to sochi. Then I decided to find out if I could fly under a bridge without destroying the cargo or my rotor blades. :pilotfly:
  6. Call me when I can get a resolution of 5760x1200 on the rift instead of 960 x 1080. :) I'm not interested in a rift until all the bugs are fixed. I've seen plenty of VR systems come and go claiming to change the world. They never have. My biggest gripe is the screen door effect and low resolutions in these setup. My second biggest gripe is I'm going to knock over stuff fumbling for my drink.
  7. I'm a lefty and I've become completely comfortable with a joystick in my right hand and a throttle in the left. I don't even think about it, let alone feel like it's a handicap.
  8. I actually made up a small tutorial mission for the ARC-UD (Is it ark? arc? I think its ARC) Let me know if it helps, and what's missing. I'm not sure I did a great job at explaining everything. If you can use the ARC-9 to find an NDB, you're most of the way to using the ARC-UD. https://www.dropbox.com/s/rmcquppis239lov/landing%20practice%20V1.miz?dl=0
  9. I just updated the download files. I fixed a possible bug that might have been making channel 2 on the ARK-UD not broadcast.

  11. Name: Precision landing practice Author: Socket7 Mission type: SP Controllable: MI-8 Summary: -Test your landing skills. Land on an oil rig, a building, and the Oliver Hazard Perry. -Featuring mildly inclimate weather :) -Flares and smoke mark landing locations -Fly empty, and with up to 3000 Kg of cargo onboard Discussion thread Download Dropbox link ED's User Files
  12. With 15 knot winds in Snowbound, The hover meter becomes essential. The airspeed indicator becomes quite unreliable for telling ground speed. :)
  13. I am truly inspired by your flying skills without the pitch and roll stability autopilot channel Bel. That one is supposed to say on! I usually fly without the altitude, or yaw channel, but end up quickly heading to the scene of the crash without pitch and roll! :D Another helpful tip would be using the doppler hover meter just above the vertical velocity indicator. It's vertical velocity meter responds much faster than the normal VVI As for the Roman candle style flares, they should not cause too much performance loss, only one is fired every 20 seconds. I had some SERIOUS FPS loss though when I accidently set a trigger to fire a new can of smoke off every single second with the continuous trigger. :) What I've found hardest about landing on the Perry is that it rocks back and forth. You end up target focusing on it, and trying to rock back and forth in time with it. Then your whole copter starts rocking back and forth and everything goes downhill fast.
  14. VFR flight is for chumps. In this mission you're going to be using the ARK-9, ARK-UD, and doppler navigation to find your targets in the middle of a snowstorm. There are 4 targets broadcasting in and around Sochi. Fly 20km from Sochi-Adler airport to the city of Sochi using the aid of the ARK-9 and doppler navigation. Use the ARK-UD, channels 1-4 to find each pickup. When you finish picking up all 4 targets, Return to Sochi-Adler airport. Visibility is only 800 meters, theres a 15 knot wind, with a small chance of AK-47 fire. :music_whistling: Questions and comments are welcome. Please report any bugs so that I can fix them. :helpsmilie: Download Snowbound from Dropbox here! Download Snowbound from the ED website here!
  15. Squishing soldiers will reflect negatively on your performance review! At least, I set a trigger for that, after accidently squishing one myself without any consequences. Never did accidently hit another to test it... :music_whistling: I'm currently working up another mission, doing search and rescue in a snowstorm with the ARK-UD, the ARK-9, and Doppler navigation. It's windier, more turbulent, visibility is lower, and if you take to long, you just might get shot at. No rocking boats this time though! After I finish with that mission, I'll have to sit around a while learning some mission scripting. I've done everything straight through the mission editor so far, and I've found some rather annoying limitations. I want to add time based scoring to both missions, and while I can set up triggers to keep track of the score in a flag, I can't push that value to somewhere the player can see it. Thank all of you for the kind words. It's much easier to spend hours making these things when you know that other people enjoy them too. :D
  16. If you want to use ADF for specific units, You'll need to use the ARK-UD, or the R-828, I'd advise using the ARK-UD, its a bit simpler. You'll have to pick a valid frequency for the ARK-UD, it has 6 channels that are tuned to the following frequencies CH1: 114.167 CH2: 114.333 CH3: 114.584 CH4: 121.500 CH5: 123.100 CH6: 124.100 Setup a trigger to perform the action "Radio transmission" Imp has some good screenshots of how to make it work here. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1901918&postcount=26 Imp said he was not able to get it to work with a single trigger, but I was able to make it work by setting a once trigger, with the condition "Time is more than 10" and the action "Radio Transmission". I'm not really clear on the kind of setup you need to make an NDB if you're trying to setup one of them instead of a search and rescue beacon, but I imagine it's just a matter of setting the right frequencies so the ARK-9 will be able to receive it (150 kHz - 1290 kHz according to the mi-8 flight manual). You'll also want to make sure that there isn't a NDB already using the same frequency.
  17. The noise is the landing gear doors closing as the hydraulic system comes up to pressure. It's normal. Have screenshots of the gear doors open with the engine off in a cold start, and closing after the engine starts. I'm sorry, but the only thing keeping people from completing mission 7 is their own skill. It's not easy to maintain a 170mph sustained climb, especially because the manifold pressure is dropping off as you climb. The oil viscosity bug does not rob power, it does not damage the engine, it just makes the gauge read wrong, and makes the aircraft harder to start. I've spent many hours flying the P-51 and the only things I can damage the engine with are oil and coolant temperature, high RPMS, and high manifold pressures. I do not believe the engine model is advanced enough that it is simulating damage from a lack of lubrication due to the wrong viscosity oil.
  18. Page 168 onwards of the flight manual shows you what switches to throw and their names. The keymap utility names them, I think "Emergency explode" "emergency explode cover" "emergency release" and "emergency release cover." I haven't tested it, but it seems like the likely candidates. There are 2 sets of these switches, one for the pilot and one for the navigator.
  19. /r/Hoggit uses custom liveries for frequent players. Custom skins are pre-assigned in their missions to specific aircraft. The owner of the livery then boards "their" plane to fly with their custom paint job. It all has to be setup before the mission is started. It doesn't really make sense that a ground crew could paint your entire airplane on the tarmac while-u-wait style. :)
  20. I can't reproduce the error in the campaign missions. Have you tried flying a different mission? are you sure the alarm signal is turned on? you can turn it off from inside the cockpit.
  21. I've never used unlimited ammo, so I don't know about that one. Troop embarking not working is a known issue though, and there is a fix in the works. The MI-8 is still in beta.
  22. Well, with troop transport currently broken, it's actually just a trick to simulate it. :) When you meet the landing conditions the group of soldiers are de-activated, and weight is added to the helicopter, simulating them getting on. If the mission was transporting them to another building, I could have another group of soldiers hidden at the landing point. When the trigger condition is met, the soldiers are activated, and the weight is removed from the copter. The ship landing made it to hard to try making the soldiers appear again. I got the idea from a guy called Belgeode on youtube.
  23. So I just finished up building my first mission ever, and decided to share it with you all because it ended up being fun and challenging. You start at a FARP outside Sochi, and are tasked with flying to and landing on an offshore oil rig. After taking on cargo on the oil rig, you proceed north into Sochi, and land on a high rise to pick up some soldiers. You will have to land on the tallest part of the building. Be careful not to crush the soldiers. After landing without killing anyone, land on the deck of the Oliver Hazzard Perry to offload your cargo and the soldiers. Then fly back to the FARP to complete the mission. In order to keep things interesting, It takes place at dawn on a stormy day. There is a 5 knot wind and some turbulence. Because you will be either very lightly loaded, or very heavily loaded, you will find handling dramatically different between landings. It's tricky, but not impossible! This mission gives text prompts to tell you what to do, flares and smoke markers to mark landing areas, and failure/victory conditions. The helicopter doors and windows also open and close. :joystick: If you have suggestions, comments, or bugs, please tell me! :helpsmilie: Download from dropbox here! Download from ED's website here!
  24. I want to fly a Hiller Hornet. I know it will never happen, but I can dream... Those ramjets look amazing at night.
  25. I too hate it when people say "Thats wrong" or "Thats broken" and then don't back it up with specifics. If you know something is wrong or broken, elaborate specifically on it so that other people can learn something. Just declaring an entire module full of bugs and wandering off is obnoxious and completely unconstructive towards fixing anything, and makes the forums an inhospitable, bitter and angry place to be. If you're going to post about bugs, post about them to educate people, not to simply bitch about a module being "broken."
