Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
Pinefang replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
More immersion I voted for the F-18E Super Hornet and I will tell you why. The F-18 would add many more dimensions to the sim Taking off and landing on a carrier plus a new way to air refuel. It adds new weapons to the sim and different tactics. I love the A-10 after having maintained it for 10 years but it is getting a little boring doing the same thing over and over. CAS I mean, With the F-18E we could do A to A and ground attack. which would add more immersion in the sim. Sure other aircraft would add the same things but I don't think that any would add all of this at the same time. A lot of people want to be Tom Cruise in their F-14 but I think there are is a more urgent need for today's frontline fighters. Just my opinion. -
FRND and green cross is very good info to know.

Most successful controllers for A2A refueling
Pinefang replied to Pinefang's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The poll is showing that a lot fewer people using the CH Products controllers have success refueling than those with the other two control setups. I wonder why? Could it be the ghost inputs that I am having? Just doesn't make any sense to me anymore. Wish their was a way to try a Warthog stick out without first having to spend so much money on one. Oh well -
Most successful controllers for A2A refueling
Pinefang replied to Pinefang's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I thought that I as the OP I might post which controller I am using. I have the CH Products Fighterstick and Pro Throttle both USB. I have also found that when I calibrate them I can see that there are ghost inputs in at least three of the axis between the two controllers. This can't be good for precise maneuvering as in refueling. But I will continue to practice and keep adding to the curves until it just won't respond anymore, sorry a little frustration there. Anyway..... -
I'm wondering if a certain controller set up is best for A2A refueling than the others. I have tried and tried but when I get close all of a sudden my plane veers left or right, (ghost input). I have tried setting my controls up differently but no joy. I've watched numerous videos and read everything I know to read and have spent over 40 hours practicing with no mare than a five second connect. So please answer with which controls you use. If you have a mix then answer with the stick. Assuming you have practiced at least a few times have you been successful with???

Thanks for the help guys. After reading the quoted chapter and watching Ralpidudes video an in depth understanding and proficient usage of all of the targeting options is quite a study. All of this well take a while to get my head wrapped around for it to become second nature. I think I have the basics of a lot of it now and can build on that.

I know that the bottom left hand corner of the HUD will tell you where the navigation information is coming from but how do you cycle that indication on the HUD between STPT, TGP, TAD etc? For instance say I have been hitting an area for the last hour with different munitions and it is time to go home and say the indication on the HUD is TGP or TAD how do I know that where the tail on the VVI is pointing is to the selected base, or is it directing me back toward the target area? Maybe I need to study the switches on the CDU and get a better understanding of what indications they produce. Hope this isn't a confusing question if so I think I can elaborate if needed.

Hey Dart is your wing still solvent. I went there and tried to enlist but found no joy. What's up?
-
Ralfidude, thanks for the indepth reply. Now it makes total sense to me. Rep coming your way. Thanks too to all of you that were trying to say the same thing but I just wasn't getting it you were on the right track using the HOTAS to cycle the weapons. I guess I can see the reason to be able to select between your own profile and the loaded one.

As far as short lase times, and I may be wrong here but it seems to me that since the laser is used to zero the weapon in on the target after release if the release was poor and way off then it seems to me that a longer lase time would be needed to get the bomb back on course. We are talking moving 500 to 2000 lbs of dead weight with some pretty small wings on these bombs so It just seems logical that the longer you give it to correct itself the better your hits would be. Of course I'm no expert.

Harzach I actually select my weapon by depressing the OSB next to the weapon on the DSMS page. As for Lase time I have had no problems with 20-30 second lase times I usually always get my hit that is why I like to use the GBUs. However as I have said, setting up the weapon profile does not want to save unless I have also selected the weapon on the DSMS page. I will have to do the training mission and see how it is done there then maybe I can figure this out.
-
I am selecting the munition on the profile control page OSB 14 then OSB 1, I arrow down to the GBU 12 or 10 and set it to CCRP, then select CHG SET and select auto Lase and 20-30 seconds lase time then save. I just reran a mission and noticed that it will only save the profile if I have the munition selected in the DSMS before I go to the profile page. I don't think that is right. You shouldn't have to select each munition that you want to change a profile on anywhere but in the profile control page.
-
So I always set Auto lase to on when I fly with GBU 10 and 12 bombs and I make sure I save it. But when it comes time to drop them the Auto lase is off and I have to use manual lase. It's no big deal but I wonder what keeps turning it off. Any Ideas? I know that I save it before going back to DSMS.

I would be afraid of terrorist boarding my aircraft during flight with the ladder down.

Thanks for the avatar. Already using it. Can't wait to fly this evening. As I said I don't get on until about 8:10 your time. Girl friend teaches a class and I usually wait until she leaves.

So after all these months I just discovered snap view but my question is is it possible to leave the screen in the snap view to work the instrument that is being displayed.
-
If you like the sound of the engines you should just leave it open and take off. T-34 stereo

It's okay to taxi with it open just don't forget to close it before takeoff and don't ask me how I know that cause I won't tell.

Ch Products calibration problem
Pinefang replied to Pinefang's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks guys it doesn't look like there is a good fix for this problem I even traded out one pot for another in the problem position and the new pot did the same thing in that position in the Fighterstick. I know not to purchase CH products from now on. Very sad state of affairs. Now I can see why It is so difficult to AAR with this set up. Not saying it is impossible but I think these spikes make it a whole lot more difficult. -
Ch Products calibration problem
Pinefang replied to Pinefang's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Did you put the dead zone in the ch products calibration program or directly in DCS A-10C controls? I have taken the throttle apart "now awaiting the "Do not remove tag police"" but found nothing wrong except that the mechanism does not allow the pot to go to its full on and off. Not sure it has to after it is calibrated. They probably should have added a resister to filter this but didn't, I wonder if anyone else is having this same problem? This is frustrating since I researched on line for new pots and can't find these anywhere and it looks like CH Products does not sell them anymore if ever. Well there is the "Do Not Remove Tag police I have to go now. Thanks for your help -
So my problem is with both the Ch products Pro throttle and Fighterstick USB. When I reduce the throttle to off my engines sometimes and quite regularly surge this happens after first starting the engines and when I have reduced it back from a thrust setting. I can have just started the aircraft and throttle is at idle then all of a sudden the engines start surging and the aircraft starts moving forward. I pull the throttle back or push it forward and then back and sometimes it will come back to idle and sometimes it won't. This has screwed up many navigation/CDU initializations and landing rollouts sending me past the end of the runway with engines howling. This also happens with the fighterstick throttle control, I would like to use it set as the Zoom control but this problem negates that usage at this time. Any where it is set the view constantly shudders or stutters it is only static at the very ends of its travel. I have calibrated both throttle and stick and you can see them getting small ghost inputs in the calibration program. I see the ghost input in all axis of the calibration program just more so in the Z axis. I use them in direct mode since it doesn't seem to be necssary to set up programs for them to operate in. If you need the info I am operating Windows 7 pro, DCS A-10C, Intel I5 3.0 processor, 16GB ram, Nvidia 650 TI Boost 2 Gb, How can I filter out these ghost inputs? Thanks in advance for yor help

Every day I log on to this forum to check out the latest posts and threads and I notice that there are 15 to 45 people on it also. That is counting only the A-10C forum. I think it could be a fun time if all these people and those in the other forums logged on to multiplayer and flew some missions. Come on everyone lets fly and fight.

Advanced Formation Training and A/A Refueling
Pinefang replied to AFAlinebacker42's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Thanks for including me, however I was only asking about the reading reference and not signing up for the class. I am unable to fit it into my day. Thanks again. -
So in DCS is the A-10c an AFM. I assume it is but would just like clarification.
-
Can someone tell me what AFM stands for? Thanks
