  1. Bit of a pessimist aren't we.
  2. That's more than likely true I don't really see any detailed info for exactly how it passively tracks radar emissions or whether it would track the target in STT mode or search mode or both.here is a quote from the article you can take it as you will. "The R-27P and -EP missile - P for passivnaya (passive) - are equipped with a PRGS-27 (or 9B-1032) seeker developed by CKBA. This operates at centimetric wavelengths, and guides the round to the radar of enemy fighter aircraft. The missile is intended for use against enemy fighters at long range, when the launch aircraft may still be beyond the maximum range of the target's radar. Since the weapon uses passive homing, it will give the target no warning that a launch has been made. "
  3. Thanks for the info GG that does help clear up some of my questions.so if what you say is true the R-27EP does not passively lock on a fighters radar emissions like I was thinking it would and you are right it would be a waste if you had to use STT to lock the target.but IIRC I saw an article and it calls the missile a passive anti radiation missile for A-A .i could be wrong about that though. Edit:here's the link to the article i saw it's from 2004. http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?24787-Vympel-offers-new-R-27EP-anti-radar-missile
  4. This question is for GG Tharos.wouldnt the r-27ep act like a kh-58 only it would "see" a fighter aircraft radar like the kh-58 sees a Sam radar and if that is true does the kh-58 use initial guidance from the launching aircraft like you say the r-27ep does until it is in range and "sees" the radar signal and flys toward it on its own?also does a Sam site get a launch warning when an kh-58 is launched against it? You are very knowledgable about these things and I am trying to understand the way these missiles find there targets.
  5. Thanks for the advice I will try that when I get time to fly the flanker.
  6. Thanks ShuRugal that helped alot:thumbup: PS: would you have any starting points for the axis curves for the su-27?
  7. I have been following the discussion in this thread and it has me a little concerned(i haven't flown dcs in a while and want to try my hand at the sukhoi until the mig-29 gets its PFM)about flying the sukhoi.i have been hearing that it is very touchy with stick inputs so I went on YouTube and watched the many videos on the Su-27(wings of Russia videos are excellent) and a lot of them show the cockpit view while in flight and the Russian pilot seems to be moving the stick quite a bit for the plane being "twitchy" IMO.now there are a lot of factors we don't see in the video, airspeed of the plane, thrust settings, pilot ability etc. let me say I'm no expert on FCS systems nor am I an engineer,so can some of our very knowledgable members tell me why would the real life pilot move the stick more than what some are saying are cm on their flight sim equipment.now remember I did not go college and study flight dynamics or some other highly technical field so if you put it in lay mans terms i would appreciate it.
  8. He did say somewhat like that:lol: Really enjoy your YouTube videos xxJohnxx
  9. Thanks DB and JST for the replies.:book:
  10. DB605 how do you tell when a plane belongs to certain JG.i just read A Higher Calling about franz stigler who was a pilot in JG-27 and he flew 2 different planes white 12 and yellow 2 both for JG-27 that's why I asked.
  11. So if TAD=HDD no wonder we get confused.
  12. There's that abbreviation again.ok I have to ask what does TAD stand for? And thanks ironhand and everyone who has replied this has been very informative thread for me and maybe will help clarify Some things for others.
  13. So if you zoom the HDD in and out it affects the HUD range scale?
  14. That what I thought but what is this TAD karambiatos is talking about?
  15. So if you increase the range scale the contacts will still be packed together just in the middle of the hud instead of the top until you increase the target distance scale to show them as separate contacts?
  16. I agree with Robin Hood and that is the best overall explanation for me to understand.i think I found an error in lino's original post.he states that since the radar range is set at 25km that the contact at the top of the hud is at 50km which I think is incorrect.you don't know that contact is at 50km because the radar range scale is not set that high you just know that the contact is 25 km or greater.is that correct?FYI I dont fly the su-27 but I found this thread very informative because I do fly the mig -29 and it's radar works the same way.
  17. Thanks for the clarification Alpha no disrespect intended towards ijozic.
  18. have watched that video before, excellent 109 video showing the pilot working the rudder during taxi and takeoff and the music they chose very fitting for the 109.
  19. in the very much improved MiG-29M or K, but those failed to enter service due to the breakup of the SU. not true ijozic,MiG-29K due to enter service with Russian navy replacing SU-33. http://www.ruaviation.com/news/2014/4/25/2291/
  20. Ok now that you have confused me more than I was.i will give you a scenario .if you are tracking an A-A target in RWS mode and switch to TWS mode all targets within radars range should be soft locked.in the hornet which buttons on the HOTAS slew the cursor and which button locks the target for missile launch.would it be the same for STT lock in RWS mode.
  21. So it's the target designator controller? Does it also control the radar cursor?
  22. Was just looking at some pictures of an f-18c joystick and throttle and have a quick question.what button locks a radar contact after it's been bugged in TWS mode.
  23. thanks for the reply pfunk.thats the way iron's profile is already most of the bindings are done in DCS only some of the axis bindings are done in SST (slider, mouse control, etc)I guess what I was asking was how do you bind the joy buttons in DCS if you want to change the joy button to some other binding? Got it figured out.i don't know why I was so afraid to screw something up hell it was easy to bind keys in DCS options I think I will do all my aircraft this way.
