Whoa now let's not be hasty... The Warthog is an amazing stick and worth the small amount of effort required to fix the stiction. If you just bought it, Thrustmaster might let you RMA it for a new one, and if not it's not that hard to fix.

First time flying saitek x 55
Demon replied to mbwdekeijzer's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I agree that you should probably go with a Logitech Extreme 3D pro joystick if you're new to flying. Flying isn't as easy as it seems and it's going to take hundreds of hours to get comfortable with. By using a cheap ($30) stick you won't have to try to go buy an expensive HOTAS without even knowing what you're looking for in one. Learn to fly first before you attempt to learn weapon systems. From there, I'd recommend looking at CH Products for gear. I've had the same pair of CH Pro Pedals since 2002 and they're still going strong, really excellent piece of hardware. Best $100 ever spent. -
High end Twist grip joysticks?
Demon replied to wingsuit's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
In the long run, learning how to use pedals is better in every single way to using a twist grip. Don't load your most important control input with another axis. If you can use pedals in flight sims then you can use pedals in space games. -
IIRC, RShift + M changes communications mode. Press it several times in rapid succession to cycle (pressing it once only displays the current mode).

Turn the radio down? That's what I always do.

Mouse cursor relative to cockpit. Proposed change
Demon replied to Koriel's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Yes, either that or add BMS-style "sticky" buttons where the mouse snaps to things as you pass over them. However I find that irritating since it trips when you're moving past buttons you don't necessarily want to press. Having the mouse be relative to the cockpit could be hard though, what if you forget where your cursor was? You'd literally have to be looking around for it haha. -
Really? Interesting. When 1.5 first dropped I remember the mirrors having an almost negligible fps hit. Recently it's been much greater though and I was wondering if something changed, because it seemed like before the mirrors were being handled by the GPU before, and now maybe not?

So, are bird strikes just a probability-based thing? That's kind of unfortunate, it would be much cooler if there were physical birds that you could purposely avoid if you saw them in flocks and such.
-
Like everyone else has said, the first time it always takes several minutes for me. After that though it goes moderately quickly (usually within 1 minute of load time).
-
Yep, there is. Go the the start menu, and click programs. Find the folder there labeled "Eagle Dynamics" Inside there should be a folder called "DCS World" Click on the program inside, called "Repair DCS World" It should go through and verify your files, and download any if it sees any damage. Cheers

I could be wrong but perhaps he is suggesting that there be an option to display a translucent rectangle which shows where the radar is pointing? For learning how slewing radar works and searching for targets, etc
-
I'm absolutely positive it's already been said here, but the P-47 Thunderbolt would be great as our ground attack fighter.
-
Yeah, the same goes for almost everything. If you shoot down a B-52 with a tunguska and manage to rip off a wing, you'll notice that the wing only appears gone while zoomed in, while zoomed out it'll look intact.

Suggestion: Option to disable marking yourself on kneeboard map
Demon replied to stray cat's topic in DCS Wishlist
Rather confused as to what you are talking about You're saying that if you open the kneeboard, you can see where you are on it? That's never happened to me before.. -
It would be nice to see this. At the very least, it would be nice to have it not auto-bind any axes/keys, and instead when you start the game with a new controller, it would just prompt you "new device detected, please configure it in the controls menu." That way you'll have to set it up yourself and you don't have to go through and clear all the keybinds. I don't know about you guys, but when I get a new module it always maps the weapon release, gun trigger, roll, pitch, and throttle to my pedals :P
-
Is it possible to have both a gunner and pilot in a helicopter? To be honest I would be thrilled with any modern attack helicopter (AH-1Z, AH-64D, etc) as long as two players could be in it at once.
-
In the future, if you have questions about controls please go read the keybinds in game before posting here, it kinda clutters up the forums.
-
CA was never meant to be a simulator. It was a simple addition to the sim thrown in as an afterthought to extend the capability of the sim to replicate a combined arms battle situation.
-
Have you set yourself as tactical commander? read the manual for more information
-
Then go to keybinds and change the axes for the mouse the same way you add or remove any other axis. I'm not very good at CA, but it's definitely fun to use. Even if that just means placing down a Tunguska and killing a few UH-1Hs and B-52s when I'm bored :)
-
CA is quite straightforward. You can tell units where to go, where to shoot, and take control of them. You can jump into most ground units (excluding multi-piece SAM launchers), and any aircraft that you own the module for. Read this manual for more information: link

1. Not going to lie, that massive list of commands is 10x harder than learning the actual systems. You only need to learn say, 50% if all you are doing is simple instant-action missions (which is about all you can do with game options anyways), and only 80% to play the game almost to its fullest (many of the switches aren't used 90% of the time, and the CDU is a huge cluster**** to learn, and only 30% of its functionality is vital to gameplay). 2. Have you played through every single training mission on sim mode? if you can complete the training missions (which are quite easy, they hold your hand through the whole thing), you will have a good shot at completing most of the missions you come across. It's easier than you think.

It's definitely modeled. For instance, Tunguskas are much less accurate with their missiles, T-80Us are much less accurate with their Reflex missiles, and all vehicles have a much harder time spotting you visually (anything with a machine gun but no radar, APC, MBT, AAA, etc). In fact, if all your external lights are off, sometimes you can get guns on Shilkas and such without them firing a shot at you.
-
Highly likely that this is because of the new Steam integration. With such a popular platform, there are bound to be an increase of players. I just wish they'd use the Steam DCS forums for questions like these, and use the eagle.ru forums for more in-depth topics.

Flightsticks without Twist Rudder
Demon replied to Demon's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Haha yes I have seriously considered just putting in a screw or two to restrict the rotation. I am most likely going to spring for the Fighterstick, as it has many programmable buttons, built in trim, good quality (according to 99% of amazon reviews) and is within my budget. But oh man that VKB Mamba, it looks amazing. What real life joystick is it attempting to model?
