Ok, I don't know how common auto-hover-systems are, my hunch, they're rare. The Huey at least have no auto what so ever. Hopefully some vet will enlighten us...

Waiting for first discount on DCS: Mi-8MTV2
Hunden Ynk replied to captainteemo's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
My problem, how will I have the time to play them all? -
I'm not sure what you mean by hovering not being a controlled thing? The auto hover in the Ka-50 works great, its just needs too be engaged at very low speed, think sub 10km/h, and with the cyclic already trimmed in the correct position. The cyclic needs to be in the correct position (close to center, a bit forward) since the AP only has 20% authority over the controls. If your cyclic is 100 % left, that authority will not be enough to maintain the hover and the aircraft will instead bank left. It's more of a hover hold, butt still very useful, since without it, hovering requires constant re-adjustments. You're spot on about the collective controls requiring a sensitive touch. Most people here probably use their HOTAS throttle as a collective.

It might help to treat the trim as a dead-man-switch. Meaning, always hold it down as soon as you want to move the stick, release it when done with the maneuver and the aircraft has stabilized at desired attitude. Rember to center your stick (if you're an non FF user). Always holding down a button when moving the stick is not tedious, I promise. You just have to make it into a habit. When the trim button is released, the attitude is programed into the auto pilot, which then will help you to maintain it. But if you're not constantly triming, the AP will instead try to maintain (within it's authority) an no longer valid attitude, hence the feeling of fighting the AP. Also, fighting and flying at the same time is *not* easy. If you want to climb without loosing speed; raise the collective to gain altitude and at the same time pitch down to maintain speed. However, that maneuver might be a bit risky if you're already going fast, since the likelihood of a blade collision will increase. The manual says that you should initialize a climb by pulling back on the cyclic if airspeed is greater than 150km/h. Experiment. I just bought the Huey, and boy, I think the AP of the Ka-50 is quite amazing.

Alright, here's two new ones, one summer and one autumn. I think the Krasnodar shot shows the difference pretty good. I like that the changes are quite subtle. I hope you're not too angry with my crappy first try. ;)

Ok, I wanted the view to be exactly the same, so I used the default external views and a landed craft. I can do it again with the F11 cam, that should be better perhaps?

I made two crude before and after type of images, if anybody is curious. With the right side being after, but that should be kinda obvious.

Please consider adding Collective Brake to Axis Commands
Hunden Ynk replied to toby23's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Right, that applies to both techniques. A "cool-down" like you describe will sure fix it for plenty of situations, but then, how many seconds should it last? I just think the button gives more flexibility, and is more predictable. Though I would not rage if "auto-collective-brake" was available as an option. ;) -

One problem though, the altitude you want to program might not have stabilized, just because you stopped moving the throttle. Requiring held down collective brake, but steady collective. -
Give the new players something productive to do

I need a parent... ;) To add another angle, DCS isn't all about PvP multiplayer. -
Well said Rongor. I think route mode in the Ka-50 is what many would consider an autopilot to be. I personally, see no reason to not use the Autopilot channels all the time, since holding down trim will give me the same direct feedback as Flight Director. And about trimming, watching cockpit videos of the Mi-8, will show the pilot utilizing the trim button as frequently as Ka-50 pilots, and that despite Mi-8 having an "simpler" system than the Ka-50.

I'm a (fairly) new player, but most of the time I just fly around, practice maneuvers, play with the avionics etc in the Su-25/T or Ka-50. That's great fun for me, sure I shoot stuff as well, but you could remove it, and I would still fly. Point being, I'm sure not all newbies are the same. So, you have never tasted strawberries, hence you must dislike their taste, because if you like them, you would already be eating them. Mind blown. -
One project that wanted the "best" engine: Duke Nukem Forever. Good is enough for me.

I just compared the files of the mod to the originals, and merged those changes to the 1.26 files instead. Since the changes made in 1.26 where not to the same logic that PeterP's mod utilizes.

How to unchain the rudder from trim
Hunden Ynk replied to PeterP's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I might have fixed it. All I did was to compare PeterP's files to the vanilla versions and merge those changes to the 1.26 versions since the 1.26 version doesn't seem to change the logic of the parts the mod adds to. But scripting gurus are welcome to correct me. :) The file is attached to this post http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1872154&postcount=14 -
I (think) it's fixed, I normally also use that mod, but not at the moment, since my FF stick is undergoing surgery. Unchain Rudder from Trim Ka-50 - 1.26.zip

You can't really compare ground level shoots to way up level shoots. I personally think that even even the Georgia map looks great from 1000 m.

Yeah, since I started to only lase when ready to fire and turning it of otherwise, zero crazy-skhval. But I thought that had to do with the ranging becoming inaccurate as described by Karambiatos. Is that a limitation to be expected by the range finder system? I remember being able to range one target, move on to next and the range would be remembered. Very useful when engaging with the canon for example. Now, as soon as I slew off the point I lased, the range will drastically change.

Phew, this riddle would have haunted me to the grave if unsolved!

Pretty, pretty, pretty good! Those hills, no jaggies?!
