  1. DCS Warthog HOTAS Profiles by Polaris & Schnix Some perspective if I may concerning "I haven't used my warhog to full potential"... The main purpose of the stick is to guide the aircraft. The main purpose of the throttle is to adjust power. As simple as that. I know guys who fly a stick that is almost as simple as a broom stick, have a throttle that has maybe 5 simple buttons and fly like demons and better than many I know. Yes you can learn Target and program a new script...but will the time and energy spent doing it in DCS (with its available UI) worth it? Not in my opinion. The HOTAS is a tool and nothing but a means to an end...which is flying. Become a better pilot, learn your plane, learn your SOPs, learn your tactics and then, if you have the time, invest time in it. Just my two cents mate...for I as others had fallen into that darken pit of investing far too much time in what we fly instead of actually flying... Just find the right balance.
  2. That's one good question Atelophobia ! There are two approaches to using this HOTAS: in game and Target. When I started flying DCS the general consensus in the community was that the DCS UI is far superior to Target's and manages to give one most of what is needed. So...I just followed suit and did the same. Target does give more options but one has to learn its scripting lingo which is as friendly as an irritated amstaff. There are some in the community who does use it though. In BMS the approach is the opposite and the community prefers using Target. So...there is no right and wrong and the bottom line is that in DCS there's not much difference between the two...just choose what suits you.
  3. Package updated to ver 10. Details in the first post. Download link in ED user files updated. Enjoy :)
  4. A quick update... Finished updating all but two modules, layouts and instructions. Hope to post updated package in the coming days. The package shall be updated from scratch to the latest 1.5 build. It shall contain no new modules.
  5. It can be done with Thrustmaster's Target scripting. This thread is about direct assignments, either through DCS setup or through DCS lua files, which has nothing to do with Target. Sorry.
  6. The inputs in this module are devided to two sets: the aircraft itself and the gunner. Why?...because that's the way it was programmed. So...it's the same procedure but with two files in two folders.
  7. There is none. Most of the assignments are stock, as per the Hog's manual. The general assignments as as in any other layout (views, kneeboard, comms...).
  8. No problem mate...and...nothing to apologize for! My pleasure :)
  9. Yup Lorenzo, that is the lever. As to why...I regard the HOTAS as literally Hands On Throttle And Stick...which means that I utilize the HOTAS to its fullest potential and I barely use the keyboard during flight (if ever). SO...the Lever acts as a Shift key which enables another layer of commands to the same buttons. For example: DMS up can either act as DMS up in the Hog or it can act as Map view with Lever+DMS up. I tried to keep the same second layers throughout the modules, though with some it's a bot different.
  10. Wowy...how many times have I answered this question or similar on this thread lol. Well, actually I do have the Mig-21...but... 1. I started this thread/ project as a way to give back, just a little, to the community that has given me so much in the path of the crazy learning curve which DCS imposes on one (self willingly of course). It has never been or shall never be involved with money or donations, though I cherish your consideration and thought. 2. Every single plane which is depicted in the package is a plane which had been thouroughly studied, tested and tried before a HOTAS setting was made for it. SchniX brings with him extensive knowledge which is priceless and without which this work couldn't had been done. Since I never got around to know the Mig-21, although it's a splendid module (my fault), it would had been unprofessional of me to make a profile for it. And...yes...I had tried to make profiles with certain 3rd partied that make modules but it didn't work out. 3. It is my intention to update this package, once the DCS update frequencies subside, but not to add new modules. Again, my main intention is to help new comers with the learning curve, but by no means replace the quest which they have to go through. It's a stepping stone from each one can venture into any other plane with a better understanding and a set of guidelines which can help. No more and no less.
  11. Sobe, If you read the manual and failed to understand the NWS then I shall ask for your forgiveness. As for how the F-15 NWS works... It's different from the Hog in the respect that you don't set it on or off. It's always on when WOW (Weight On Wheels). The basic state is: 1) Steering system automatically engages when nose gear is on the ground. It's limited in it's range and is better suited for taking off or landing or straight lines. When you wish to turn sharply, up to 45 degrees of motion on either side you use:3) Nose Gear Maneuvering Range (S, must be held) - selects maneuvering range (45 degrees) There is a third option when you can disengage the front wheel altogether and by using the brakes you can almost turn on the spot: 2) Nose Gear Steering Disengage (LAlt + Q, must be held) - disengages nose gear steering system. Steering will re-engage when button is released and nose gear rotated less than 45 degrees Hope it's more helpful :smilewink:
  12. The third option is written in that quote you used. What key controls it is written either in the F-15 manual, or in my F-15 layout and even in the options config...do try using them... Just to be utterly clear: this sim is a learning sim. What is given here is meant to help get over the gigantic hurdle which is flying DCS, not replace it. One needs knowledge, reading and training...and lots of each. The reward is enourmous. But, if one thinks that one can just put a config or lua file somewhere and just go out there without investing a second into knowing what or how to fly then maybe one is missing the whole point... Not too long ago none of these files were around and if you wanted to perform you had to sweat it out...in short...RTFM!
  13. Never checked it before...but...with so many downloads so far Ithink I would have heard of a problem if there was one.
  14. There are several ways to assign switches. Choose the one the suits you best.
  15. Usually you use the toggle switches for assigning switches and not buttons. Each switch has two "states": On and Off. On is when you close an electrical circle and off when you open it (which you an see in windows settings as actual light being turned on or off). The issue is most commands in DCS are configured for the On state...eg when you move a switch up it goes into the On state>the software recognizes it and it is assigned. Most commands i DCS don't recognize moving from On to Off and the reasoning is simplicity...to make assigning simpler to understand. The Hog is different as it has commands for both sates of the switch in advance as part of working with the Warthog HOTAS. So...if you have switches and you want to utilize both states of the switch as different actions/ states of the same switch...you make a new line/ option/ command in which you add two lines (with line commanding the off state and the other the On state) into one line. You than go into options and assign the switch you want to that new "alternate" command. Read, try and see how it works.
  16. Editing the deafault.lua in the toggle switch regards means you write a new line and name it with an add like "alternate" or "machupicchu" so you can discern it from the original command. That command is then added to the options config as a new line.p to which you assign whatever switch you like.
  17. How to set up toggle switches (a tutorial) 1. The only lua to be edited is the default.lua. The diff.lua only notes the differences between the default.lua and the changes made by the user. 2. Editing the default.lua has a precondition: a coded line for a switch state for on and a coded line for a switch state of off. In most cases these two are written in the default.lua and should only be written in the same new line as shown earlier in the thread. Sometimes these pre coded lines exist in the coding but are not written in the default.lua and can be found in either this thread or in trial and error. 3. If there is no code for on and off position but only toggle then one has to prepare one's switches before getting into the sim. Editing or making toggle switches is quite easy...all it takes is to read the whole thread...
  18. Stang, 1. You're welcome. 2. The F-15 is one of the modules that is a confirmed none compatible with cureent versions. It works but you shall have problems changing anything for it uses assignments which do no exist anymore and doesn't use others it should. Read my first post. 3. Wheel brakes...they are all the same...for western aircrafts only (Russian aircrafts and German WWII use a different system). It's in the axis section and you assign it left and right reversed for each pedal. But...since you can not make changes it won't help you. 4. Nose wheel steering is not the same in all aircrafts and each has its own system. The Eagle has three options: one is active all the time at a reduced angle, one is activated with a push of a button and it makes the steering angle bigger and the last one frees the front wheel completely which enables it to turn on a dime. My advice is simple...delete the folder, restart the sim, delete each category and build it afresh. You have the graphical layout so use it...it will only take a few short minutes.
  19. Well...I started working on the new update and had most of the work done when ED released the new update. Since I make everything from scratch after every update before I release it here I'm afraid it shall take more time than promised. When? In due time. Sorry
  20. Actually...I think I'm quite overdue if I'm to be honest... In short...finger crossed...I hope to have a new package ready for the end of the next weekend.
  21. DCS Warthog HOTAS Profiles by Polaris & Schnix Correct. As I wrote a few posts above and in red lettering in the first post.
  22. Please don't use current profiles within the package due to incompatibility with current DCS version. The profile itself is very close to the original, with a few custom commands. As for the problem itself...in order for a module to "know" there is an input file within the saved games folder you must create one first by making any change to the input settings of that module and save them. That action creates an input file which can be replaced with any other custom input file.
  23. You're more than welcome mate! But...after today and the first flight...choose your aircraft, open its manual and study it. Enjoy :)
