  1. And we are throwing out examples of DCS allocating more than 10gb in VR. While it may not be actual used, it gives me pause that some modules don't allocate over 10gb and some do with my and Gunnars Driver settings in VR. Which to bring it back to the thread, makes me hesitant over the potential 3-5 year life of the card, that a 3080 10gb will have enough VRAM through the length of service life. 2. Which exactly why Dee-Jay is an amazing source. He is a SME that has been researching the Viper through both people and documentation and has been for a long time. He isn't a Viper pilot, but I trust his knowledge more than a Viper pilot because he confirms everything through as many sources as possible. He has more SME and data sources on the Viper than ED and has been doing it longer. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk
  3. Here are some snips of my fpsVR, which Afterburner backs up. Again, I know it's allocated, not necessarily what is being used. I will also admit when I first ran at 1.2 PD the VRAM was "only" 10.3gb. This a quick jump into the F-16 Free Flight Caucasus mission. FWIW, the Hornet missions only tend to be 9.0 VRAM. Settings are Steam resolution of 3412x2104, PD 1.2/1.5, no AA, High/High/512 textures.
  4. With PiMax 5k+, MSAA and PD 1.3+, my 11gb gets pretty much completely allocated Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk
  5. Unfortunately (IMO), that box is already opened. If ED sticks to their guns on this, I think they should walk back the LAU-88s. I see what people are saying on the 10 Hornet AIM-120s and 6 F-14 Phoenixs I need to do more research into thos. But LAU-88s weren't operational according to most experts due to aircraft/missile damage and possibly these 4 HARMs due to wiring. If it is physically possible, I get the worse case scenario that we fortunately haven't been in to see it combat loaded in real life argument. That is probably the 6 Phoenix scenario since it was loaded for awhile operationally, just not commonly apparently. If enough experts say the wiring is there for 4 HARMs, ok, allow it. I get the problem for more of us hardcore realism guys is that most of the time DCS doesn't have that many limitations that would be imposed on a real life extreme mission in range and supplies to make it be a truly rare, last ditch loadout that it would really be and people are going to spam those loadouts in MP and makes a gameplay issue in some ways (which is part of the reason I don't public MP). 6. And only two Mavericks... Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk
  7. Even though I had them all setup, I got zero notifications from all of Best Buy's 3080 yesterday. If they keep it a publish release time of 6amPST, expect no notifications. ROG Strix is a little rich for me knowing that AIBs didn't get many of the best bin chips yet. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk
  8. Again, for those of you that want more than 10gb of VRAM and don't want to pay 3090 prices or don't get one next week and are on Team Green, you may want to wait for the 3070 16gb/3080 20gb that may be here as early as late October: https://videocardz.com/newz/gigabyte-confirms-geforce-rtx-3060-8gb-rtx-3070-16gb-and-rtx-3080-20gb It's annoying that these cards aren't AIB options at launch or aren't officially publicized if it's going to be that soon. It actually makes me happy I didn't get one yesterday so I'd be saddled with the lower VRAM if the 3080 works out to be my next card. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk
  9. And FWIW, that's the point those of us who anti-LAU-88 have been making,so in these cases it's ED's job to make the realism call so people don't game it too badly. But as everyone is pointing out here, it seems weird that they are drawing the line with this loadout. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk
  10. With an ED tail codes, Edwards test squadron, not operational and you don't technically know if it tested out ok just by a picture, only that they were able to bolt 4 to the jet. That specific loadout is what Wags is saying, that it was only ever flown at Edwards according to pictures. And to somewhat back them up, there are pictures of non-ED tail codes flying LAU-88 double/triple Mavericks. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk
  11. Or like the LAU-88s and triple Mavericks. While I'm not a big fan of non-operational loadouts like that and the 4 HARMs, I feel like they opened the door for this stuff. I'm not familiar enough with the 10 AIM-120 loadout Hornet loadout, it maybe different than these in that in the Viper the 4 HARMs were only flight tested at Edwards apparently. There is debate if the LAU-88 is kept as an emergency stop gap loadout for a Fulda Gap scenario or if it is not used because the Mavericks can damage the aircraft and each other from launch. But for sure it was never used in combat in times where it might have been useful, like the 1991 Highway of Death. Is the Hornets 10 AIM-120 similar in that it is flight tested and they just have never needed it yet or is there a deeper debate? The 4 HARMs loadout would naturally become less popular anyway when we get ECM pods to mount centerline and will need to take the two wing tanks instead of using the centerline. 12. Kinda like those LAU-88s and the AGM-65s :D ;) Sorry Wags, couldn't resist, I know not exactly the same, but close in my book
  13. People looking at the actual binning say that blaming Samsung's process is just a rumor specifically fed to give Nvidia an out. The Covid delays would be legitimate. For more details read the Moore's Law is Dead article linked. I received my Nvidia notification email at 7:14am PST, probably an hour and 12 minutes late [emoji38] https://www.mooreslawisdead.com/amp/nvidia-s-ultimate-play Key part of article: Also rumor has it Nvidia is giving AIB partners $50USD per card through September to keep prices lower, expect price bump even without market pressures in October. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk
  14. I had auto-notify setup on all of Best Buy, NewEgg, and Nvidia 3080s and didn't get a single notification/email. But the only one I actively was trying to buy with was the FE. I'll still play the game next week if the 3090 prices don't skyrocket. But if not I'll just hope I don't have to use my savings for something by the time the 3080 20gb come out. But will also give AMD a look. If this is really Nvidia artificially setting the scarcity and low advertised price as Moore's Law is Dead and others claim, I think they shot themselves in the foot. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk
  15. Spam clicked at Best Buy for the first 5 minutes of 3080 release for the FE, never showed in stock until it showed sold out. Also every other site I've looked at is showing 3080s as sold out. I was more using it as a test run for the 3090 next week, but they are for real when they say limited stock. It may naturally end up that I wait for a 3080Ti/S 20gb version now that maybe available end of October. As long as it is $1k or so I feel it will be worth with how we can expect all the prices to go up. And also it would give a better idea of what Big Nabi will be offering. We'll see I guess. 16. Yes, send me a PM so I can send and explain. Since it is very basic software that I hope to improve, I'd like for it to not be too public for now. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk
  17. There is a fix coming. If you follow the Discord or GitHub, there is a RC that is being tested. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk
  18. That's pretty much what the article I linked thinks too. He mentions that the FE cooler is rumored to cost them $150 alone and effectively makes it a mostly vaporware loss leader for Nvidia to flex marketing muscle. Also the FE cooler is great for the card, but they are going to push hot air towards the CPU in most cases with second fan, which the AIB cards look to be doing as well but not as much. If you have a high air CPU overclock, you may need to watch out if you can actually get one. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk
  19. I get that too, but it's seeming like what leaks are out there the 3090 isn't really that much faster without things ED won't support, like DLSS 2.1. Especially when it's over twice the price. If a 3080 20gb is $1000 USD in late October could be a good deal for those that can wait. But I too will be on the 3090 first day wave if I can find one because I've saved up and it's burning a hole in my pocket, hoping something doesn't happen before I that which would force me to be more responsible [emoji38] It will also be interesting to see exactly how much their VRAM compression will effect things. For those of us that are happy with the settings and just want faster framerates, the compression may make it have even more effective VRAM on the 3080 than the 11gb 1/2080Ti cards. 20. Problem is seems that the FEs, especially the 3090s are going to be very limited supply on release. Moore's Law is Dead even is claiming Nvidia is doing this on purpose to market cheaper cards and all the AIBs will be higher prices than the marketed MSRP of the FEs. Another claim is that the 3080 20gb/3070 16gb versions will be out as soon as October. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk
  21. I plan to try to get a 3090 specifically because of the 24gb VRAM so I can turn up the super sampling and AA with the Pimax 5k+ that usually runs about 9-10.5 GB VRAM in my 1080Ti with AA off and PD at 1.2., 100% large FOV resolution. With my system DCS is generally bottlenecked by the GPU as confirmed by fpsVR, my CPU frametimes normally in SP are around 10ms, GPU 14+ms. If you can wait though a 3070Ti/S is confirmed to be coming with 16gb of VRAM and a 3080Ti/S is rumored at 20gb. You can't on this one, Nvidia isn't allowing it. 17th is 3080 release, 24th is 3090.
  22. Yeah, me accidentally starting a second instance of SSA is when I have had that error come up. Check your system tray to confirm it isn't already running, it will be just the red SSA icon down there. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk
  23. If you can wait, there is pretty solid rumors that there will be a 3070Ti (or Super)/3080Ti(or Super) that will have 16gb and 20gb respectively. Also there is the theory that Bob_Bushman mentioned that the 30xx series has memory compression that makes 10GB do the work of at least the 11GB for the 1080Ti/2080Ti. But I would like to see some testing on that but I doubt most benchmarks will check that out. I'm pushing the 11gb of my 1080Ti often so understand your all's concern.
  24. Thanks, those all make sense. Any more weight on your head under G was all I could remember, but the ejection seperation and look under/around factor is a great point, and interestingly IIRC one issue even SF have them without look under/around it's easier to trip over/run into stuff. They still aren't perfect. I often wonder how well the WW2 night fighter pilots that were dedicated to their night visual adaption could see in combat. I know though that NVGs are still the better modern solution for modern Aircraft. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk
  25. But for whatever reason, I think mostly weight and possibly cost, the panoramic NVGs like the GPNVG-18 are not used issued currently to fighters as far as I can tell. In DCS you would still need a look under for focus inside, but it would go about edge to edge horizontal of a standard monitor/VR headset. If using wide/triple monitor or Pimax large FOV, it would not fill the screen side to side. This presentation has a great breakdown of NVG limitations and FOV representation around slide 14 (and you can see DCS does a good job nodeling this): https://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/headquarters_offices/avs/offices/aam/cami/library/online_libraries/aerospace_medicine/sd/media/berkley.pdf Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk
