[Official] SimShaker for Aviators

Which do you prefer the more adventurous with good track records with SSA run since technically the stable is a higher version? -
I agree that DCS seems to overestimate visual ranges of aircraft especially, which is why my labels.lua ranges are far less than default. The one I actually feel the worst about is the friendly/bandit IDs at different ranges (which are far closer than default DCS still). I think back to Col. Cesar “Rico” Rodriguez havjng to merge on his second Mig-29 kill to VID it because it looks so similar to a F-15 and F/A-18 at distance. On the other hand, if it was a Su-22/27 or Mig-21/23, he would have probably been to VID well before the merge. Right now that blue/red fill is at 3500m (1.88nm) in my labels.lua where as that is 5000m by default and think I'm going to turn it down to 2500m (1.34 nm). The aircraft labels right now turn off then so I can get good gun tracks, so that might go down to 1850m (1nm). But I definitely know that my overall VID range is less than RL in VR... There are some other things that I've seen from my real life flying experience as just a career civilian flight instructor with about 3000 hours that still make VR not feel like enough, but I would love to hear your experiences too. For instance, there are times I've been able to ID aircraft types from that 1.88nm far away that are fighter size, not to mention larger aircraft (I still have around 20/20-20/15 distance vision). One of the other things is that ground vehicles in real life always seem to be easier to pick out in my opinion, granted I spend most of my flights in what jets would call the weeds and I'm not looking at camouflaged military vehicles, but I also see off road vehicles kick up more dust that what DCS does and leave visible trails through fields. If you are taking the DCS dot only labels and getting rid of the super far dot and turning everything else down by at least 50%, I think it is a realistic trade so far. Also I must admit I have broken down and accepted that VR (and most monitors at normal viewing distance except 4k <30" size) means you have less that 20/20 vision on screen, even with a 8k+ or G2, etc. So I have experimented with a custom .Lua for dot only labels that turn on at only the realistic ranges and I'm happy with that compromise so far. Agreed, where the Pimax shines is FOV. I love the large FOV and everytime I put my Rift S back on I'm so underwhelmed even though it has slightly less SDE. I don't get all the hype on the Reverb G2, the extra Pimax FOV for me has been well worth it! In BFM it is much easier to get a tally on the bandit. SAM smoke trails are also easier to spot. Overall my neck gets far less of a workout I've noticed because I don't need to find stuff on the soda straw of the Rift S. See the inbound missiles without smoke trails are still hard though. I have a similar system and the 3090 has made a big difference for me as well form my 1080 Ti. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk

Definitely interested because it is a switch on my button box that doesn't work properly. It is programmed using the keystrokes which will work if pressed to one or two of the positions but not all and then for some reason even on those positions that do work on the keyboard, it doesn't work with the short duration press or something from my X-Keys Matrix board.

I definitely seeing a noticable improvement of at least 40% in non-CPU bound parts of DCS and plenty of overhead when it is for better graphics options from my 1080 Ti to 3090. Also I am seeing DCS at least allocate more than 15gb of VRAM (I know fpsVR/Afterburner don't report VRAM actually used). Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk

Glad to help. The jump to 2.0.x has a new installer and other upgrades so the 1.x branch wouldn't see those updates IIRC. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk -

To my knowledge, the beta FB group is Andre's for SimShaker Sound Module/Wings/Wheels. The link to the new SimShaker for Aviators Beta by f4l0 is up a few times, last linked in posts 3035/3036 (threads like this are why my standard forum view is as many posts as possible). Here again for convenience: https://onedrive.live.com/?aut...F57%21112&cid=AAE14DA560024F57 I believe once there is enough feedback on it being fully release material, f4l0 will add it to the original post. PointCTRL - Finger Mounted VR Controller
Snake122 replied to MilesD's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Most switches yes, but for the F-16 ICP and A-10/Hornet UFC I have a plywood front and a project box for that area that was going to be a button box until I got PointCtrl and decided I didn't need another one. Even the MFDs I don't feel like I need the plywood support in general and it's just kinda nice for those since you have multiple close together presses quickly. It is a different link due to it being a different installer, it's been in the thread a court times but not the main post because of Beta status: https://onedrive.live.com/?aut...F57%21112&cid=AAE14DA560024F57 Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk -

DiCE: DCS Integrated Countermeasure Editor by Bailey (v6 MAY2023)
Snake122 replied to Bailey's topic in DCS Modding
Awesome work Bailey! Definitely tired of waiting for DTC features and you made a real nice option here. The main advantage of this compared to the CMS editor you made is that it is directly in the UI, correct? The other one has a basic backup function and more aircraft supported for now. Could we even use your CMS Editor in conjunction for the F-16 and F/A-18 to do edits outside of DCS with it and then when we are in DCS use DiCE to fine tune the programs? Nah, I could have made a new paragraph and maybe been less vague and use one of those large group words, it's one of those quirks of English [emoji38] Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk

Yep, I don't know how the secondary market is in the UK but $3700 is high 3090 asking price (not to mention exchange rate!), not 3080 that is in that listing. And now I'm happy to have the extra VRAM since it is at least being allocated above 11Gb and anecdotally agree that it could reduce stutters. If 3090 isn't your card and you are running more pixels than a Rift S, I'd recommend waiting for 3080 20Gb announced for December now, 3070 Ti 16Gb or Big Navi 16Gb probably next month. I haven't seen over 16Gb yet, but it's been close. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk

I definitely am enjoying it so far. I'm watching the Zen 3s a little, looks promising for sure, but this was more of the end of an upgrade cycle. I got the 9700KF/motherboard/RAM early in the year and the US stimulus money helped pull all this off as I was lucky enjoy to stay fully employed through the whole crisis. So far though, it's really nice to not be GPU bound and I am definitely getting FPS and especially quality improvements across the board, it just the 40%+ is only when not CPU bound. I'm breaking the law then because I don't post to YouTube [emoji38] , but 3090 Supercarrier fps for me haven't really changed that much because that part of DCS is very CPU bound on my system. There are many times now that instead of maxing out at 60fps in the Viper, I'm getting less than 11ms or less GPU frametimes for 90fps with some turned up graphics than before (no VR Shaders mod, from no to 4x MSAA) in a not that crowed portion of a flight and I'm getting low CPU frametimes, but even looking at a Supercarrier as you are getting ready to break results in a big CPU hit and for me a FPS drop to the 30-50 range. Also it is resulting in some high VRAM allocation of 15Gb+ at times, highest I saw was taxiing to parking after landing a hornet. But it does look a lot better than before! The 3090 has made CPU bound when there is a FOS drop. Overall, I was definitely GPU bound with the 1080 Ti and the Pimax 5k+. But even though there are crowded missions or parts of missions where I'm getting the similar FPS as the 1080 Ti as the CPU frametimes go up, I'm able to crank up the visual settings further than before without any penalty. I'm definitely learning the things that DCS leans heavily on the CPU to do. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk

Hopefully that's somebody driving up scalpers, but I doubt it. Also, DCS will allocate even more VRAM with a 3090, I think the most I have seen now is 15.3Gb after a Supercarrier Hornet landing and taxiing to parking. So while there is still the allocated vs used discussion, it does make me happy to have the 24Gb over 3080 10Gb. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk

3090 first impressions for me, jumped right in and forgot to fire up fpsVR, but I am seeing 40%+ Viper framerates over my 1080 Ti in non-CPU bound Instant Action missions of Caucasus Free Flight where I do my personal low altitude route over the vehicles the A-10s attack, then over the town, up the hill, into the valley. The Viper also seems to allocate more than 11GBs VRAM now. Nevada F-15 Aggressors instant action stays at 90fps sync max most of the time from low 70s before. Interestingly, the SU-25T Free Flight instant action (recommended since it is the common module) had almost the exact same framerates as before... Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk

Unless you have money to burn or do something that needs lots of cores, there is no reason for DCS as it works now to go 9900k on LGA1151socket or a 10900k on a LGA1200. The extra cores will not help in DCS! If DCS is the main focus, a 9700k/kf if LGA1151 would be fine, but you would probably be more future proof to go LGA1200 and get a 10700k or even 10600k. Buy CPUs that have the best single core performance. This is why AMD processors are so disappointing in DCS, they have great multicore performance for their price but poor single core and DCS can really only use 1 core well and only partially another 2. FWIW shadows increase CPU load, not GPU. Try flat only or a shadow mod sometime Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk

That's the SP vs. MP player issue. With a similar system, I'm not really CPU bound in most the SP missions I play, maybe a DCS Liberation with the unit culling to a high distance or a really busy campaign mission. If I get low over the front lines or similar situation, I will get below reprojection framerates, but only spikes under until I get back up to altitude most the time. Honestly, a lot of my flying during the week with less time available is Instant Action and simple missions to keep specific skills honed. But those simple skills focus flights are sometimes the most satisfying anyway for me. So I average 12ms or under CPU frametimes almost all the time in my flying. I think it's a combination of the software optimization limitations and also how massive most MP missions are in number of units. I get it that you need that many flights and ground units for a good online squadron mission, but the difference with my limited experience seems to be all about the number of units. I can do some simple MP with just a online wingman and it doesn't bring DCS to it's knees and have pretty much as good as offline CPU frametime. But we load up a massive online mission with dozens of flights on both sides, it's a slide show in VR. I think if I did more online, I'd have to not do VR in it or maybe downgrade back to the Rift S.

Goto to the SimShaker for Aviators thread and download the latest 2.0.5 beta and it should work. If you are running a 1.x version it won't update to it automatically. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk
