Bill & John - Ep II : Danger Attacks at Dawn
Flexman_UK replied to SebTom's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Oh man, that should come with a health warning, I nearly busted a gut laughing so hard. So many questions, how did you do the dept of field, how did you make the mav fall off the rail, heck I don't want to know, preserve the magic and mystery :) One last thing, how can I subscribe to BillTV? I'd watch that :) "finance available" -

Black Shark video coming soon!
Flexman_UK replied to Glowing_Amraam's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Crap, he found out about the booze and the hookers :-O At least I've learned to enjoy Vodka during all of this. I'm looking forward to seeing this video too, all of GA's videos are cool, sure hope it doesn't use a Phil Collins soundtrack though :) -

Oct. 13th... New Black Shark Screenshots

I haven't seen any NVG shots posted yet. Lets see one of those. -
I bought an I-PacII for my Mame cocktail cabinet project, USB, programmable, more than enough buttons for what I need. And I got it for like 30 bucks. Question is, is it worth the time fiddling around with wiring and switch layout? 80 bucks would be alright, but once you pay for shipping costs from the US it shoots up. In the UK, customs will even charge you VAT on the postage, they are evil buggers. edit: oooh, that's a nice little TEWS add-on, pity the Ka-50 doesn't have one :(

Programmed with the ass? lol yes I can imagine that. I just built a PC that can now finally play FS2004 on full detail with knobs on, don't think I want to try FSX in case I get a rude awakening :( Whenever a friend comes around and I show them some new bit of kit, like a TrackIR or joystick, they go cold if you show them a fighter plane or helicopter. But stick them in a Tiger Moth on the pan at Meigs, they instantly 'get-it'. Anyway, I tried to make a reasonably positive post about a Borg product (MS employees term, not mine). If you want your guilt strings tugged, if you've not seen it, well even if you have, it's worth seeing again, check out FlyHalf's videos on YouTube... "End of an Era" and "Pilots Of The Caribbean" Share and enjoy

It's funny, I looked at the first picture and instantly scanned for manpads :) Lovely colours, Maple-001 is now my current desktop wallpaper.

X-52 PRO - Out in November
Flexman_UK replied to zaGURUinzaSKY's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Visit http://cougar.frugalsworld.com/ (site has popups though) And you'll probably want to fix the Speedbrake if it jams, details on the surgery required here... http://cougar.frugalsworld.com/mods.php#speedbrake It will work out of the box, might not be to ones personal satisfaction though. You'll hear a lot of differing views. But the above site has a lot of information and their own forums. But if you DID buy a new Cougar, expect a very heavy solid metal stick with strong springs with an "X" slot centering feel, very flexible programming software, some metal buttons that will either feel too loose or too tight. Cool to the touch, looks to die for. You'll probably want to modify it or fix it up after a short while. I said already what I feel about it in a post above, for the cost of one of the 3rd party gimbal mods to 'fix' it up nicley I bought a differemt plastic HOTAS, time is money. Great if you can afford the expense and time of fitting the uber kits IMO. -
LOL This thread is funny, I needed the laugh this morning. Cheers.

Chris Warren's voice overs are excellent. He sounds like my old instructor. Erm, not saying "he's" old...oh never mind. I always have your tutorials to hand on a laptop IH.

We have a company laptop with a mini-stick like the one on the X52 that goes nuts. If you have a dodgy ministick it's probably related to our laptop. A replacement part may well be required. The Saitek rudder pedals I got came with only one detachable footrest, I was onto their support like a shot, eventually after a few days they got back to me and politely offered a new part, at which point I found the bloody thing under my desk. :/ On the topic of the TM Cougar under the bed, it was a love hate relationship. It became quickly apparent after taking possession of it (unit number #604 so it was from an early batch) that it was all fur coat and no knickers. External quality was impressive, but I had to operate on the thing just to get the airbrake and dogfight buttons to work correctly. This was a common issue, the Cougar World web site carries instructions on how to fix these issues (and more). 'Sick' out of the box is not good at those prices. If you want it to work properly and reliably you have to replace the gimbals and sensors, doubling the cost of your unit. After gutting the stick in this way I'm not sure it can be called a Cougar anymore. Importantly for me the stick tension is way too strong for what I fly mostly, the real F16 sidestick as we know doesn't move (hardly), the springs in the Cougar are like 20lbs and feel like it's made for WWII enthusiasts. Flying a helicopter you really don't want much tension at all, you're flying with your arm or fingers, movement is light, often rapid. So the Cougar is not much good for helos, at odds with F16 realism and likewise for WWII sims. But the handle IS detactable and usable as a blunt instrument. And BOY does it look good on a desk, always turns a head. :) One day I might get around to fixing it up with hall sensors for an F16 cockpit but until then it stays under the bed with all the other discarded sex toys (tempted to mention TouchBuddy at this point for an even cheaper laugh). I suppose it's a case of the Cougar not working as good as it looks. The Saitek stuff working far better than it appears. You don't expect too much for what you pay, like a cheap date you're thrilled when it puts out. Saitek, pimp my plane. :) -
Pretty neat. Could use one or two (dozen) for Black Shark :/ that might get expensive. What kind of buttons/switches are available? Just the black push-to-make kind? I can see a chrissy pressie pre-order in my future.

Looks like a nice update to the X52. Lot of interesting little touches to what is already a neat out of the box HOTAS. I kinda like the fact it looks like a "toy" (which it is), so visitors to the house don't think I'm a gun nut or anything like that :) I hide the TM Cougar under the bed, which is where it belongs IMO. -
Lock On and SLI technology
Flexman_UK replied to 4c Hajduk Veljko's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Interesting document on SLI do's and Don'ts, read it through and nothing seems unreasonable from a programming perspective. I'm sure there's a lot of RTT going on in LOMAC with the cockpit, mirrors and instruments etc. Old thread yes, but it's saturday morning and I'm bored :) -
You know, art is NEVER finished, only abandoned. Just to chime on here, it doesn't take programmers to make pretty 3D models or bigger shinier explosions. But there are times when members of art departments don't have much to do when everyone else has a full workload. They can get up to all sorts of crazy stuff when left with nothing to do (I'm now remided of the "Hitler wall" incident - shudder) so is best from a managers point of view to give them something to keep them out of trouble :) @britgliderpilot LOL Airwolf. I remember they had some crummy explanation for exceeding M1, they 'disengaged the rotors' when they hit 'turbo'. Great documentary, almost as good as that other one about mercenaries working in the Los Angeles underground, what was it called? B Squad or something? :) P.S Happy 100th birthday Dmitri Shostakovic

There seems to be a 'third' pose, if you look carefully one grunt is hailing a cab. http://lockon.co.uk/img/products/large/fb32d60e9ffe4b49d1050da4638777ba.jpg

LockOn is more like a military simulation for getting flight time rather than an entertainment title. I think that's it's background and hence the snapshot mission approach, more like a trainers station. Are there any hooks in the lua script for genertaing and destruction of objects? That could potentially be used to create a more dynamic theater without having too many units active at any one time. Adding a helicopter is the most exciting step forward IMO. Now gamers with an entirely different skillset can participate, and play a vital role too. On the ground eyeballing and elimination of air defenses, creating a corridor for aircraft is best done by the modern attack helicopter. Black Shark will add new roles to multiplayer, new forms of participation and mission execution. LockOn will probably remain 'LockedInto' that military sim theater idea for some time unless it can be scripted via lua, maybe ED could put in the hooks to enable such a thing if they don't exist already.

Amen to that brother. Cheap at twice the price.

No Speedtree. It may have been discussed by us 'Joes' on the forums but that's all. I don't think the trees are that bad, not in the video I've seen of the ABRIS planning and mission execution, the pilot is hovering over a tree line at the engagement point. They look like they totally do the job. Almost too well. I've used the Speedtree library myself, I'll just say that with the detail on the cockpits and the terrain that's offered in Flaming Cliffs you would be devoting a lot of CPU time (Speedtree is CPU intensive) to eye candy. It would be more of a slideshow.

I agree with the comment that it has no soul. It's boring, it's not even ugly. It's the pre-fab metal industrial unit of the aviation world imho. Although I admit it was pretty cool to fly in Jetfighter II if you can remember that far back. The novelty of a new girlfriend, yes that's what it was. Unmanned remote controlled death seems to be current zeitgeist in the modern world :( Does the F22 have a pilot or systems operator? Russian jets are romantic. Sorry, I'm not 'on message' with the F22 love, I only had the above to say on the topic and I'm done now. I can show willing though, "yay F22 FTW". That ok? (mutters: "still boring though") :)

Well you ARE the Hollywood of LockOn so that's a given right  I just love seeing how you treat lots of stuff blowing up, highly stylized, kenetic, furious. All good in small doses. This last mini-movie would look fantastic as a game trailer at the cinema. I burned it to a DVD and intend to try it out in my brothers home cinema. Suggestion for the next plot... "4 Cloned Clint Eastwoods have stolen Su-27s fitted with the protype Thought Control System. Unknown to the clones the TCS computer AI has other ideas, and proceeds to blow shit up all over the place." Hmmm, no think I'll save that one for my next screenplay. Thought for the day: One definition of a terrorist I read recently was "someone who uses a bomb without an air force". That was very deep on many levels I thought. Looking forward to the next installment GA.

Amazing video, enjoyed it greatly thank you. Loved the camera tracking and panning, looks hard to get right and it stands out.
