We haven't heard from Iris for a long time. As I remember correctly they stated that they stay with FSX as their main platform. So if any work is done for DCS it will be at a very slow pace.

Friday April 4, 2014 Development Update - The 109 is Fun!
Dutchy93 replied to luthier1's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Thanks for the update! Man that 109 looks nice. Can't wait to try her out! -
I found this in one of my research pages. If I am not mistaken this contains the airfoil of the F14. It says that this particular craft used a NASA 6 airfoil. Not sure though, I did not read it thorough. http://www.nasa.gov/centers/dryden/pdf/88125main_H-1461.pdf If you have the airfoil data you can calculate a lot of variables with the following program: http://web.mit.edu/drela/Public/web/xfoil/ This program, XFoil, is an old MIT program (you use your CMD.exe to run this) but if you know how to use it, it may be of some help to you. BUT this data only goes for subsonic speads. At high spead this will give false readings. But for lower speeds this can give you quite accurate data. I hope this is of some help to you.

It's good to be here... Now, lets kick the tires and light the fires.... This is going to be a good ride!:pilotfly:

Isn't there a way to calculate this if the wingfoil is known? I don't know how this is done for sure but with a simulation this should be doable if you have the right software.... And maybe you can be more specific about what you expect. Anyone can throw in a table with Cl and Cd values but that might not be what you need.

Found this in a quick search. I don't know if this is of any help to you guys: http://publicintelligence.net/u-s-navy-natops-f-14-tomcat-flight-manuals/ As a long time F14 fan I'll watch this thread closely. Good luck fellas!

Usually I tell my wingman to cover me, and I have my radar on. When I see them I go high and on burners. Basically altitude can be converted to speed, which gives my missile more range. So that means I can fire sooner. By the time I get WVR I have already splashed one and I have a visual on the other guy. Then it is just a matter of locking him up in Vertical Scan mode and stick a R73 up his tailpipe. And should I lose him, whatever the reason, I go high. Preferably without burners. Maybe throw out a few flares etc and I go hot on my radar and fly in circles not to fast. Sometimes I ask the EWR or AWACS for directions. And every now and again your wingman spots something on his radar. And if you know the others only have heaters, stay away from your burners. You'll just get more attention from the missile. And if you want to cheat you can take a peek on your F10 map if you're in a decent enough position. And next it is just trial and error. This mission was actually quite fun. The next can be a pain. Last time I tried it a few times. sometimes I got shot or the group I escorted got attacked. But when I finally get all the enemy fighters, the damn SEAD misses target=> Mission failed. Try again. But 4 times in a row can get pretty boring. Back on topic, I hope I helped a bit. I bet others know more than me but it is a start.

Another Dutchman in the circle gentleman. I am from Limburg. Good to have you with us

Hey chris, I don't know if you've got the startup sequence of the KA-50 down, but here is a vid that I used to get started. It is a bit fast. But if you pause it from time to time to take notes it shows you just what you need to know to get flying. And as others have said here: Try to go online and find someone who is willing to teach you. Yesterday my friend bought the KA-50 and in just 30 minutes or less I walked him through the cockpit and startup sequence. And in around 2 hours of flying in total he knew as much about the KA-50's systems as I did. Only I slightly fly better :D. If others are not available then watch vids on youtube. There are enough video's out there that show you the ins and outs of the planes systems. Start somewhere simple and add more later. Good luck to you and I'll see you in the skies.

It was just a few hours ago. A new peep asked what was happening. Sorry if this sounded weird. Posts get deleted everywhere. But then again, why was my post not deleted if it isn't relevant anymore.

If you read this thead you will find that there is/was an internal struggle. More information is coming when available. The MiG21 is still go for release in march.

Yeah, but sometimes I can't really see the dots clearly but I think that is just me. I do have one gripe though. You can't have your radar active in NAV mode, which you can in the F15. When I fly the 15 I leave my radar on regardless of my HUD mode. This way I can fly my patrol accurately and still be able to see what is in front of me without having to rely on AWACS or EWR. That is one thing you just cannot do in the 27 and 33. You have to alternate between NAV mode and BVR, just to make sure you stay on course. It is the one thing that I miss. And that I don't really like the russian TWS mode but that is up to personal preference.

Thanks Humbug, I didn't know that. Looks like I learn something every day. And Chrisr382 I am glad to be of help.

the dots on you HUD are the contacts. dot rows that is. The MFD screen only shows datalink targets given to you by awacs

I live in the EU and I must say that whenever I try to fly online in this kind of servers I find the opposite of your statement at D. As a mainly FC3 player I usually find that in my server there are only mud movers flying around. I can fly circles for hours and only find a A-10 or Su25 humming about. Although I might be one of those guys that shoots those planes down on occasion, I try to focus on the fighters. Once I found a single enemy A-10 floating around with no fighters in the area. I must say that just shooting down mud movers is no challenge at all. All they can do is fire up ECM and chaff/flares and try to hide in the mud. I am looking for missions where fighters AND CAS planes are flying around. This way I have a purpose being there. Shooting down the same A-10 a few times in a row gets boring and the guy flying it won't have a good time either. So sometimes I just let m go and fly next to em. Moving mud can be fun for some time, but trying to kill tanks with a F15 or Su27 gets boring if no one is flying near. You can't hit a damn thing and no one is shooting back.

It is not? I thought it was, well then, looks like I have to recheck things. Edit: I stand corrected, it is not a clicky cockpit. My mistake
-
Indeed, clicky cockpit planes take longer to master. although there are shortcuts. When I started flying the KA50 I tried to simply start the engine and I was drowned in buttons. So first I used a shortcut keybind to start everything up (engines and weapon systems) without doing the checklist and buttonhunt. Then I just learned to fly the helo, find its quirks and slowly find my way around the cockpit. And viewing some tutorial vids didn't hurt either. Making notes in the proces. And a dozen or so hours later I can start everything up nicely without problems. Although not really in the right order :music_whistling:. Well, the engine runs, I can fly... and those red lights flashing.... well those are for the disco music :megalol:. Just to sum things up if you are serious about this: -Find some shortcut to start everything up -Take the plane for a spin and learn to fly it -And when you are up to it start clicking buttons and find out what they do. Just don't touch that big red button or you'll blow us all up  just on a sidenote: Fc3 planes are not as advanced as the Su25T. The SU25T is clicky button realistic. FC3 is not. Hope to see you in the skies soon!
-
I fly both the KA50 and the FC3 F15, and I must say, although the clicky buttons add to realism, when I am in combat I don't use those much. For example, To target a tank with the Shkval of the KA50 I use exactly the same buttons as if I were to target an enemy plane with the radar of the F15. And to be honest, I don't really mind. If I had to click tons of buttons just to get a missile to fly up the enemy tailpipe, I wouldn't get much flying and fighting done. Most of the buttons are used during startup and shutdown or in transitions between casual flight and preparing for combat. AFM and a clicky cockpit would be nice of course but for the newbie player that just stuck his head around the corner this would be a good transition from arcade to super duper clicky realism. And if you just want to shoot stuff and be silly with a mate this is good to screw around. Although some say FC3 is arcade, I find it realistic enough. You have your radar modelled in such way that you can't see the enemy through the mountain, Missile mechanics are better and more realistically modelled than in most sims and everything simple enough that you can learn to operate a plane in just a few hours, what do you want more? This is ideal for the people that don't want to much hassle and just want to get in the game. And until the MiG21 comes out this module has the only fighters available in the game. If you wanna learn how to fly a realistic plane without to much complicated stuff, pick this up and give it a try. If you like this, you can always go further with the more super realistic modules. And if not, we always need some new fighter pilots in here. Good luck!

Recently read about this plane in Flypast. Must have been a hell of a plane to ride. Very much looking forward to flying this badboy!

Looks great! I noticed that just when the race started at about 1:40, you could see the mustangs rolling in and at that moment they sound like a swarm of angry bees coming toward ya. Totally Awsome!!

Could be, but then I would like a announcement in here somewhere so we at least know that he's working on it and when he's planning on contacting us. I don't want to be pessimistic but this kind of behaviour makes people lose faith. Just saying.

same boat here. I only got a reply from paypal confirming my payment. But Luthier just doesn't answer.

This is true up to a certain point. New players will be intimidated by the vast amount of clicky buttons that they will more easily give up. True, I love the clicky buttons in my KA but on the other hand I sometimes like the simplicity of FC3 flights. True the FM are not as advanced as the DCS titles but this is a good transition game. From arcade style to full realism flight sims as DCS is. The next step for sims is indeed what DCS is doing. But only us hardcore simmers will truly see the beauty of it. Say what you will about the 'simple arcady' FC3, but if you want people to start enjoying flight sims, this is a good way to start. Not to complicated, but complicated enough to keep it challenging for the newer players. Sorry to drag this old topic out of the mud again...
