Summary: Secret Service planned to interrupt an ongoing arms deal and arrest everyone, but has underestimated the enemy. As the mission is about to fail, inmediate air support was requested. ------------------------------------------------------ this is my first ever sp mission, though far from finished i think its enjoyable enough to share and maybee get some hints to improve my mission building. Its mainly meant as entertaining way of weapon practising, so its more about action than realism. --- Briefing --- *Special forces are requesting inmediate air support* Intel reported a currupt general is secretly selling weapons to an unknow arms dealer. The general managed to redirect a plane loaded full of weapons to a civilian airfield at Kutaisi, where the weapons were loaded onto trucks which just leave the airfield. Special forces were to fly in, interrupt the deal and arrest everyone involved, but at the last minute intel reported the enemy was able to acquire atleast one crate of portable Igla Sams. To make things worse, the enemy was alerted and is now preparing to defend the airfield, the general used his connections to call in some armored units. Finally a hind attack helicopter just landed at the airfield - though intel expects it to only be the arms dealers getaway vehicle, stay alerted, as its armed with gunpods.. The status of the portable sams is unknown, so air units are to stay clear of the airfield until we got further information. Luckily we got multiple hidden Agents surveying the area, so pay close attention to your radio. download at user files: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/2044358/index.php alternate download: GazelleL-ArmsDealer.miz greetings, tob.s

Hi, inspired by the Gazelle L, im currently doing my first mission using triggers. Im making good progress so far, but now i ran into a problem. As part of the mission u have to stop an enemy convoy by taking out its leading vehicle, then you have to guard the convoy until some hueys arrive & drop troops to arrest the drivers & secure the freight. I got it working to the point where the hueys spawn, but i cant figure out how to make em land or atleast circle above at the convoys position. The exact position of where the convoy will stop is unknown as it depends on how fast the pilot accomplished its previous tasks. Also if there was anyway to create a new triggerzone at the convoys position, this would be very handy. -edit- it seems like it could be done with script expansions - http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=166964&page=2, to me thats to complicated for now, so i changed the mission a bit so it works with fixed positions greetings tobs

just wanted say - great job polychomp - you guys (and leathernek) realy show what can be achieved in dcs. No ofense on besimtek & co, but to me it seems like theres an extra bucket of love within Gazelle (& Mig21). Keep up the great work.

Gazelle L weapons wont fire- control setting red ?
tob.s replied to tob.s's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
jepp that did it, thanks -
Hi, 1.5 open beta got the following problem- im trying to get the weapons on the L version to work and cant figure out the problem. so from a hot start i go master arm on arnament power switch to "M" right pylon on sights deployed i get a reticle but still i cant fire, also the "trigger" lamp doesnt light up when i pull the trigger checking my control settings, i see that the whole entry for "fire guns / rockets" is in red color - i tried deleting and reassigning but its still red - is this be the reason and how to fix this ? greetings tobs

i dont get it - if someone would release an DCS-xwing it still could be great - theres no need for realism to make a sim complex and challenging, i guess one could have a blast in it. Of course it wouldnt be balanced to the other modules, but is hunting a bf109 in a mirage2000 more balanced ? If you only want highest possible realisn, u simply dont buy it - it would i no way affect the other modules and or water down their realism. As Dcs is basicly a pc-game made for entertainment an not for militaty training ( i know ed does so too ) there will always be some classification on planes that are/were in service recently ( even the training sims dont have all features) - to me this is totally fine as i have no way to tell whats 100% real and whats guesswork - as long as u aint one of the engineers who actually developed some of those systems u cant either. Of course the goal of any simulation is to be as close to the real thing as possible, and dcs is top notch when it comes to fidelity, but its also made for entertainment. So if a thing is reasonable realistic ( eg. if one system is classified, but there are sufficient infos on other similar systems ) it think its a pitty to leave it out course of some missing details.
-
im not asking to strap on weapons on plane versions that didnt carry em, but for the versions of the planes that are more versalite / mutirole versions, so hawk 2000 instead of t1a for example.
-
The thing i dont get is the " we need to start with something easy" - the mig21 and gazelle clearly showed that its possible to add new and complex systems to dcs - if im right the gazelle devs started as modders so theyre no profesionals / have ( had ) their daytime jobs and still developed the gazelle quite fast. Also the a10c already features most of the systems u could imagine for more than 10 years, its all in dcs and i guess one could adapt those systems quite easily to another plane as dcs`s engine should do most of the work. also there are already mods that add weapons to different planes ( some more some less realistic )left out by the devs, so if modders can do so it shouldnt be a problem for any dev. Im quite disappointed that even with the eurofighter and f14 we will get the pure fighter versions ( well ok leatherneck could do a paper-plane and it would still kick ass ). Why is air to ground totally abandoned ? Im not asking for extreme firepower, but a hawk with brimstones or mavericks on the f5 would make them much more intersting to me. I doubt the f5s maverick systems are classified while the a10s arent. The "people will buy any module just because its something new" effect clearly is there, and i cant imagine how the trainers could be a financial succes without it as theres limited people liking hardcore flightsims and only a fraction of those would realy buy more than one trainer ( maybee on sale ) if there was any other module to buy. Well, the more modules we get, the higher the pressure to offer something other modules dont have. My hopess are with Leatherneck ( poor guys as everyone is expecting another miracle from them ) and if i could wish for one plane, it was the f117.
-
i struggeled long time before i bought the f5 yesterday - basicly because i own every module and its just one "more from the same" plane when it comes to gameplay - latest plane modules were all small fighters / trainer with limited air to ground and nothing special that makes em stand out ( like all those details on the mig 21 or the gazelle with its quite unique flight behaviour / hot missiles ...) well, but sometimes you just need some new toys, so despite my brain said "u dont need that one / wait for a sale" i still got it first thing i noticed about the f5 is that its less manouverable than expected, especialy if just compare the looks the f5 looks such more manouverable and also more modern than that "rocket with some wings strapped to it" mig21. But in the air i would say the mig21 bleeds less speed and also has more thrust. Id might be my little expierence in the f5 though so it might behave much better if flown within its "best perfomance parameters" - still it seems like the mig21 dominates the f5 in online dogfights from what i read at the forum though. Taken for itself its a great module though, detailed as youd expect it from belsimtek, fun to fly, quite easy to land ( compared to the 21) and almoust finished. The M2000c is clearly more modern and high manouverable, also it has its INS and fly by wire as unique sytems ( not sure if the INS is fully operable yet ), still its inferiour to the f15 / su27/33 when it comes to weapons, radar and engines so theres no matching enemy for it atm. Still if u fly more complex online missions it might be more usefull as its speed & manouverabilty give it a better chance against sams, so bomb trucking gbu12s for your jtag or taking out convoys with rockets /bombs is possible - i especialy like high drag bombing in the m2000 as its very precise once u figured it out. The F5 just has manual sigths and u have to fly within the correct parameters to hit, so its less flexible and more prone to being attacked while bombing. So it realy depends on what u wanna do with the plane For Nevade it looks great, but i never thought it would make a great combat theater as its mostly a big city with desert around it. So its great for fsx like sightseeing , air to air and those red flag & training stuff, but the old map seems too offer more strategic scenarios of taking a town / airfield which just would feel odd in nevada ( russians invading las vegas ? ) btw one thing im realy disapointed with all new modules are the poorly created instant mission that come with them - air to air - theres one enemy plane, air to ground - feel happy if theres more than two trucks standing around. Its just loveless - I hope the devs would take an example on the hawks air to ground mission which offers four increasingly difficult target zones, or set up some triggers so a new foe will spawn once u downed that first fighter.
-
cool, gotta try this - there will alway be manouvers that only can be flown in a sim as nobody would risk to do so in real live, so for some manouvers ( not speaking of this particiualor one) wee will never know for sure...
-
i use a secound joystick / gamepad to guide the tows while flying with the other hand - still risky as u could get in aaa range but better than hovering
-
Hi, - sorry my english isnt great, but i hope u get the idea , also i havent fully studied the gazelle yet, so also sorry if i missed a feature which is already there - the training missions and tutorial videos show how you engage unarmed enemys from autohover, however this is extremly dangerous when the enemy shoots at you and u most likely get shoot down by enemy hots before u can launch a missile. So tonight i used an additional gamepad in my left hand for aiming and attacking while flying with my right hand. it took some time to get used to, but it makes a huge differnce and allowed me to fire all my hots and kill 3 t55s before running into a shilka on my rtb. Also its great for scouting while aproaching the target zone. As the gazelle can be flown hands off easily (by trimming) and using two joysticks is a bit overelaborate, it would be nice to have a safe way of toggling between using your stick for flight or aiming ( while not hovering) , which when tunring back from aiming to flight mode would wait for the stick to be centered first ( like trim on the ka50 works ). Also its quite hard to align the chopper for launch from the copliots position while tracking the target if the target isnt straight ahead. There are nummbers showing u how far the sensor is rotated but an optical help like the artificial horizon in vis mode might make it much easier to align the chopper for the launch, sadly its hard to see from the copilots position / while focussing on the tv . my suggestion would be to make this a toggleable overlay ( similar to the imput overlay) on the copliots tv screen so one could focus on the target and still have all the information needed to steer the chopper at the same time. another solution could be to extend the slave-mode to not only work while hovering - it seems to use only the rudder atm which isnt enough to turn the chopper at high speeds. So perhaps when above like 50 kmh it should start to use roll instead / fade between both. Also it should disengage when closer than lets say 500 meters from target so it doesnt try to do a 180 deg turn when flying over the target. I guess those things could help to improve the gazelles combat experience and effectiveness especialy for the poor single screen, simple stick & no trackir pilots like me :-) - what do you guys think and do you have any combat tricks to share ? greetings tobs

well handling three versions of dcs can be a bit confusing sometimes :-) cant reproduce it as my dcs is updated now, but i guess the alpha updaters link to the changelog guided me to 1.5s changelog, and as i was just looking for news on L39 an Mirrage i didnt read it was the 1.5 changelog and so got confused.

Hi, well title says it, i got the ZA in DCS 1.53 but i cant find no trace of it in the latest open alpha (also in mission editor ) ?

2016 options for headtracking with low latency
tob.s replied to Archades's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The newest Version of (Trackhat) Opentrack allows to drive the ps3 eye at h igher rates ( upto 189 hertz in 320x240 ) mode, however this also means more pictures have to be computed which requires more pc perfomance which could lower dcs fps. I also think its more a dcs problem though as i got little to zero lag in opentracks preview- think about the stuttering/lagging when tilting the external view with the mouse, so i guess theres something buggy about this. However there are professional motion-capture cameras with build in picture processing and high rates/resolution starting around a 100$ if i remeber right - not sure if theres free software for those though or ull have to buy something extra. There was an article in a german ct about a guy building his own jedi-"holodeck" ( more like a bigger version of steam vr) where those cams where mentioned - sadly ull have to pay to read to full article - http://www.heise.de/ct/ausgabe/2014-24-Mit-VR-Brille-und-Motion-Capture-Kameras-zur-eigenen-Jedi-Cave-2433093.html Also the 10dof sensor and ardunio could offer almoust zero latency as the arduino ( leonardo - not sure about the mega and uno) could just act like a mouse or hid joystick so there would be no impact on our pcs perfomance. I also got myself a sensor and experimented with it, but i gave up as its not as easy as getting the sensors data and then map them to a mouse/joystick movement - First ull have to use a communication protocoll to get the sensors data (like i2c), which requires a certain software libary on the arduino, also the raw sensor data is noisy and therefore should be filtered - and thats when things get realy complicated, i once stumpled across such a filter, but the filter script alone was so long it wouldnt fit into the arduinos Memory together with the i2c libary and my own script - all i managed to do is to get a very shaky 3d cube ( its an example script included with processing ) to spin on 2 axis , third axis delivered random values, not sure if broken sensor or bug in the communication protocol. A good starting point could be to google for "arduino wii remote" as this has been done before and there should be scripts for this - also used wii remote is cheaper and easier to get than a single sensor. -forgot- for a cheap try on 3dof u could get some apps like trinus vr and use your smartphone as sensor even without cardboard, or a webcam + "facetrack noir" which doenst require ir-leds but tracks your face instead (6dof) -

my rudder joystick axis got inverted with 2.01, no biggie as its as simple as inverting the axis on the contols page to fix it, but i wonder if its just me

well em u know, new toys ... thanks for the seat-adjustment hint , the video tutorial guys use trackir so its easy to miss this detail ( which maybee why its mentioned in the manual :-) )- with the seat at max up position i instantly succeded with snakeeyes greetings tobs

--- edit : just tried using the radar altimeter / "rs" instead of "tas" and finally was able to hit with rockets and low level ccip at 800ft 480kn, so is tas not working in 2.0 ? --- Hi, just bought the m2000 yesterday & got some questions about air to ground ive watched different video tutorials ( dcs 1.5 ) on the ag weapons but i seem to be missing something as my rockets fire way to far - independ from range and dive angle ( its like the piper is around 1cm to low on the hud ). the videos were made in dcs 1.5, is there any differnce to 2.0 ? i fly the instant action ground attack mission, set radar to em, master arm on, and select rockets - which gives me the piper - when enabling "trs" for radar ranging the piper is (and stays) gone with the ccip / rockeye or snakeyes i can hardly get to see the piper without crashing 1-2 seconds later unless engaging from up high in a very steep dive, even then the impact also seems to far - "trs" on/off seems to have no effect on this. Whats a good diveangle and speed for ccip bombs ? also in this mission the m2000 seems to carry 2 snakeyes and 2 normal mk82s, but after releasing the snakeyes i cant find a way to drop the 82s - i still can select "bf1" but neither the ccrp diamond or ccip symboligy is showing up, when pressing fire theres no release ( i was able to drop normal mk82s with ccrp in a quick mission with the plane just carrying mk82s ) thanks & greetings

So, tob.s, you gave money to the kickstarter and you want your money back because the product hasn't appeared yet? Hmm. Talk of a class action is frankly ridiculous. Good luck finding a lawyer to help you with your pursuit of 40$ for a largely international company. thats the point i didnt give money to kickstarter, i didnt bake - i bought a 101 CC beta bundled with an eb beta from eds store nearly a year ago and i didnt recive a CC beta till yet. It wasnt about bakin, it was clearly stated that the cc will be relased soon after the eb on eds store page (which was changed multiple times - now it says ... cc will be released later) so it was a presale. I underlined will be released to show that its promised to be released, no maybee, no if..., it stated that it will be released - thats the differnce to kickstarter where they say we want/plan to release until... if... As people have said above, purchasing a pre-release beta is not a guarantee If there are no statements about timeframes, the buyer can expect to get his goods within an usual/reasonable time - and even for dcs modules, one year isnt usual. talk of a class action is frankly ridiculous. no, ridiculous is that people have no idea off theyr rights and belive a company is always right or too powerful to be sued, especial a "largely international company" - like aviodev ?jeah im sure aviodev has millions of employees all over the world and even an outpost on the moon where they collect cheese to feed theyr underwater mice ( underwater mice are best at coding flight models as we all know, but they only live on the ocean floor and eat moon cheese) - seriously ?. Btw. Ubisoft recently got succesfully sued for their Assins Creed Bug dysaster, and they offerd the plaintiffs an solution outside the court. The plaintiffs had to sign to not give information about what they got in exchange, but u can be sure that it was more than they would have got by court. Shortly after Ubisoft offered all customers of Ac another game for free if they admit not to sue ubisoft ( which btw was hidden in the free games terms & conditions which off course caused a huge shitstorm once it was discovered ). while i too think there will be no sue on aviodev i must say the do very little to get that much support and trust from the comuminty
-
i gotta admit that im quite feed up with aviodev and while im not trying to flame i think that all the support from the community distracts from the legal facts. I also think that Aviodev doesnt see the gravity off the (legal) situation cause off all those "its done when its done / quality takes its time ... posts". One year with nearly no progress is nowhere a expecatble / reasonable or acceptable delay and if the custumers would sue for refund it would certainly be the end off aviodev. first to show why the Beta status doesnt affect the missing cc version in my view - this is the official pricing copied from aviodevs post: C-101EB=19.99$ C-101CC=39.99$ AFM (C-101 EB)=FREE AFM (C-101 CC)=FREE TOTAL=59.99$ source. ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=137881 ------------------------------------------------------------------ ( sry but i wouldnt wonder too much if this thread will disapper soon ) So 2/3 off my money went into nothing but promisses. Also i only bought the EB because it was bundled with the CC - to me the EB is an added value to the CC and not the other way around, which also is refelceted by its sale price. So even if the Eb was finished with all promissed features i only would have one third off what i payed for. One year off delay is not only unacceptable but ridicioluls. The CC isnt a unimplemented feature of the EB, its a module/product of its own. I spend 40$, waited a whole year and didnt recieve anything in exchange. It was stated that the cc would be released soon after the eb , but first the eb needs its major bugs fixed / features completed as the cc is based upon the eb. Thats okay as long as this takes some weeks, perhaps even few months, but u cant expected anyone to expected more than a year off waiting. As for Aviodevs internal problems im sorry - but even if your company burns down over night it doesnt change the fact that we gave u money and now u got to deliver or refund if u cant deliver - things happen. I recently lost a job because i got ill and had to stay in bed few days after starting at the job, but even after telling this to the cashier at the supermarket i still had to pay for my food - its a cruel world. U cant blame your custumers for your problems. Also the statement that the ccs systems turned out to be more complicated than they thought is odd - to mee it made it worse as it shows that the cc wasnt anywhere near to release when they started selling it. I realy doubt that the CCs systems to be more complicated than any other modules. I only can asume that aviodev lacks the needed competences/personal to finish the product. It all seems like they sold the cc without having anything - thinking once they got the eb theyll just strapp some bombs on it, tweak the model a bit and voila - finished CC. Now this turned out to be huge work and they have no idea how to finish it, but as long as money flows in they keep up the fassade - once sales drop and all the money is spend theyll say " sorry but we cant finish.." and turn insolvent - thats the standard kickstarter s*** - even if the get sued to refund, there will be no money left. I realy think its time for us customers to set an ultimatum and, iff theres no progress or atleast a statement on how this will be solved, start a class action lawsuit for refund. While its not my whish to destroy a potential source off new modules im feed up with game developers which seemingly are above the law - every other business treating theyr customers like this wouldnt survive a month. If apple would presell its new iphone for some weeks and then say, "ooops there will be a one year delay" people would not only sue apple but riot in the streets. If its a game dev people say " oh pour game dev, maybee ill get my game if i just give him more money" -wake up people- its a business, devs should know about this or atleast have the balls to clearly say whats the matter and find a way to solve the problem together with the communtiy/customers.

hi i tried this sometime ago and figured out that a real second monitor is a much better solution in terms of lag, fps inpact and stability. A simple used monitor should be around 20/30 euros on ebay... Anyways here some hints for you as starting point... There are many apps to stream your desktop to android devices via wlan but they all have the problem off lag which makes it very hard to aquire a target with shkval / tgp . I tried with the "splashtop" app but there was around half a second of lag, so it got to hard to get a lock on a moving target. However i recently tried using my phone and a cardboard as cheap occulus and stumbled across an app called "trinus vr". This app also has an usb streaming mode which is much faster than wlan, so it might be worth a try. Another App to try might be "Kinoni Remote Desktop" is said to be the fastet wlan streaming app according to some websites. You can trick your windows ( 8.1 guess its the same for 7 and 10) to think theres a second monitor this way - Right click on the desktop, click 'Screen Resolution' Click 'Detect' on the next screen Click 'Another display not detected' and under the multiple displays option select 'Try to connect anyway on: VGA' Click 'Apply' You can now enable your desktop to be extended as if you have a second screen plugged into your computer. However most of those streaming apps will only stream the main monitor in fullscreen mode so ull might need to get ur shkval/tgp as seperate window - the easiest way to do so might be "UltraMFCD" . greetings tobs

"It is easier to do for third parties. For the first project they do a simple plane, to learn all the stuff." Leathernecks Mig21 showed whats possible. Also theres the Bo 105 project and that guy got not only his own fm but also working tow cable guided missile into dcs by himself. So if a modder can do so without official support i guess it shouldnt be that hard for a third party which surely gets atleast little support from ed. TGP and Shkval / TV, Laser & SEAD guiding logic is already in the game, so are the most weapons, they just needs to be addapted. In fact i dont think it would be harder than implenting any off the other systems if not very simple compared to the complex modelling of the engine and flight model. The solution to all this would be simple, the devs should tell us which planes they think they could do ( planes they can get the required information & licensess ...) and then let the community choose instead of making some seemingly random plane. In fact i only buyed the trainers, ww2 birds, mig15 and sabre cause i wanted to try something new and there was nothing else - there never was a choice/competition between two modules and wo competition, the devs can do whatever and still have solid sales. I guess thats the same for the majority off u guys out there, its nowhere the plane u wanted but its something new. For example - if the hawk and the f14 came out the same day, or the c101 and the f5 - i guess hawks/c101 sales would much lower than they are. With the growing number of modules there will also be more competition which will hopefully lead to some more community influence in the choice off modules.
