Buying new HOTAS, need some advice
Elnocho3 replied to neroroxxx's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Debated what to get after my Cougar, went for a Warthog - haven't regretted the decision one bit!! -
Add TrackIR Center & Pause on 1 Joystick button
Elnocho3 replied to CubPilot's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Fantastic!! Didn't want to mess with TARGET or lua files (I miss Foxy!! :( ) so this is exactly what I was looking for. I combined the two and plan on using it with Track IR and Teamspeak. Thanks very much! -
For those who are interested, the TrackIR-off effect is just Gibson's optical flow in action. Motion is perceived most efficiently and accurately via visual information when the fixation point remains constant (in this case the orientation of the viewpoint in the simulator). This gives a consistent optic flow pattern (to imagine optic flow, think of when ships go into hyperspeed in starwars!), which is easier to translate into perceived motion than when the fixation point changes. So basically......zoom out, and stop swiveling your head around!

That is fantastic, thanks very much for taking the time to go through your procedures!! Just out of interest - how long (on average) before scheduled takeoff time would a pilot show up at the jet (apologising...... with coffee in hand and flight suit round ankles.....)?? ;) For the F-16 I read that 20mins before engine start the pilot arrives, with take off time being 20mins after engine start (Rosenkranz - Vipers in the Storm)

Lol, you had to pick up on that one didn't you! I didn't say I'm going to actually use all the steps.......:music_whistling: But I'd still like to know!!!!!

Hey everyone, To add immersion I've been trying to incorporate into my startup procedure accurate ground crew interaction steps. However, I have a few questions (sorry, there's a few......): When is the canopy closed? When would the crew chief disconnect his headset? Checklists don't include turning on anticollision lights before engine startup, is that correct? Also, when do you turn on position+formation lights? When would you salute? Any other steps would be great :) !!! I feel it massively adds immersion if there is a feeling of real danger to ground crew if you don't follow procedures correctly. I'd appreciate any accurate info, or if anyone could point me in the right place. Cheers!!

I massively changed my mind about the P-51! I'm usually a systems and avionics kinda guy, but the P-51 is just pure fun.... I find I'm looking out the cockpit just enjoying the views. My main concern with the future of DCS is bringing fighters, CAS aircraft & Helos together. Firstly, it does sound awesome in principle! But secondly, it's going to take cleverly designed missions to ensure everyone can go about their business. For example, I'm going to be pissed if I'm trying to do CAS in an A-10 but keep getting battered by Su-27s (or whatever). The scope for the world is amazing though, actually wouldn't mind flying some civillian/cargo aircraft around with the correct avionics.

I had this idea too!! Was thinking of producing some quick faux arrival charts. I would be interested in hearing your progress..... Having come from flying STARs all over the place in the Level-D on FSX+VATSIM, I now miss the strict arrival procedures. I often fly in IMC conditions in DCS and terrain clearance is a real worry in some areas!!

The current IR incarnation obviously isn't perfect, I'm fine with that. Could some gain & level settings be posted that may help?? Maybe for different situations/targets (e.g. in forest, in town, at night, during day etc.)? For example the quoted post from a while back (before the en masse heat debate) mentioned it:

Simple Pause TIR for Warthog??
Elnocho3 replied to Elnocho3's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks for the quick reply!! Very simple, lol - never used track IR itself to do those commands! And I agree, I always scripted the Cougar but want to fly a bit before spending time with TARGET -
Hey everyone, I've recently started flying DCS Warthog with the HOTAS warthog. It's obviously fantastic but with Track IR i've been getting a very stiff and painful neck from keeping my head so still. I've changed the track IR deadzone & response curves, but to no avail. I would like to know if there is a SIMPLE way to assign the Track IR pause command to a button on the throttle?? I do not want to have to reprogram both the joystick and throttle in TARGET (and learn how to)......... I've just got flying again, the last thing I want to be doing is sitting on the ground, staring/swearing at code! Thanks in advance!!

Brought one........another satisfied Warthog pilot here :) Cheers for the persuasion!! -
Satisfied TM warthog pilots?
Elnocho3 replied to Elnocho3's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'll order a mini-beer fridge for it then! :P I actually meant is it best to hot unplug/throttle first/stick first etc. But your reply made me chuckle at least, Seems like the response is way more positive than I first thought.........waiting for pay day! -
Satisfied TM warthog pilots?
Elnocho3 replied to Elnocho3's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Well thanks very much for the positive responses!! .......I'm still not convinced, but may have to risk it ..... as the performance when it works looks awesome. What's the best procedure for putting it into storage when not using it? Also, is it worth buying a powered USB hub for it? -
Sold! Hope she enjoys her new home......

Hi there, I'm thinking of buying a TM warthog, but I have to say I feel my heart is ruling my head. All these bricked throttle issues for a stick that costs a LOT of money, just makes even considering the stick seem mental! I'm a cougar pilot so I'm used to reflashing etc. so that wouldnt bother me, but these issues seem to go deeper than a simple re-flash. And yet, I'm still drawn to it!! Can anyone offer me some success stories (e.g. Never had a problem). Or if you feel I should stay clear, just say so! Thanks in advance!

I'm selling my beloved HOTAS Cougar. Both the throttle and stick are in good condition as it's only four years old, and I haven't been able to fly much for the past couple of years. Looking for about £85 (~ €100) or nearest offer. I'm based in the United Kingdom, but will ship worldwide.

Absolutely amazing!! Please, please, please keep up the good work!

No problem, if you find the workload of controlling the helicopter and instructing your wingmen with the keyboard too much, you could try a voice activated command program such as http://www.dwvac.com/ Then you can keep your hands firmly on the joystick/HOTAS while talking to your wingman, it takes a lil bit of setting up but it makes flying more enjoyable and means less keyobard stabbing in the middle of a fight Have fun! I've read quite a lot of posts referring to 'drunk' wingmen crashing into the player's helicopter, however i've never encountered this problem. I tend to mess about with formation spread and type depending on the situation. Maybe give that a try, for example i usually tell him to spread out when approaching the target zone. Hope this helps

Its not much fun talking to yourself in the middle of an active runway, you'll probably get thrown in the looney bin. There are a couple of things to help alleviate this problem: 1) Make sure all the radio switches on the right wall panel are switched on including the intercom switch 2) Turn the intercom source selector dial on the SPU-9 radio intercom panel (located by your left knee, in front of the targeting mode control panel) to the furthest left position. Enjoy!

Can your PC run BS with no related issues?
Elnocho3 replied to Air-Force-1's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
No problems/bugs on my setup, can run it on medium to high settings with frame rates varying between 20-40+ fps depending on the number of AI units, urban/rural areas and whether the skhval is on. Specs: Win XP 32 Media Center SP2 Athlon 64 X2 4800+ 2 GB RAM 8800 GTS Creative X-fi 5.1 -
Here is thread mentioning the usage limits of the laser range finder: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=35496&highlight=laser&page=6 Quote from GGTharos in that thread: "The laser rangefinder operation is limited to five series of uses, with 30 minute intervals between them. Each series gives you 16 lasings of up to 10 seconds, with 5 second intervals between lasings. If you use the LRF more than this, you will damage it." This cleared up why i was having problems with my laser on long missions!

Try pressing shift and 3/4/5, its definitely an instrument panel but i've forgot what numerical key to press. For some of the animations you'll need the planes engines off and a couple also need the wind to be zero. Its a really good plane, shame my version of FSX sucks due to blurry texture issues (any help would be awesome). Happy flying
