Russian missiles - usage, bug, problems, advantages
TAW_Blaze replied to tovivan's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
It probably is a more idiot friendly aircraft but we shouldn't judge a plane's capability based on the perception of the incapables, should we? :D Range is only a thing at high altitude. The most important aspect is the speed / acceleration. In a busy situation you can't always know who fired and what, there could be multiple missiles from multiple directions in the air and you can't be sure even if you see them visually. This can also apply to slammers but silent flankers are much harder to spot because of not emitting any signal, therefore reducing their exposure to where you're looking with your radar / eyes. The combination of different guidances can also put you in a pickle, you want to be on the burners against one, and idle against the other. -

ET/ER combos can be just as deadly as a well shot slammer. Bottom line is, that you need to have the SA to identify enemy positions and launches and the 15 is just far better at this. The other bottom line is that you'd be shocked by how extremely difficult it is to kill a competent driver in a serious event like JW or SATAC. Most deaths are a direct result of lacking SA or a series of mistakes from one of the drivers. The Eagle is clearly a better BVR fighter and has numerous other advantages but the point is that for some reason people pretend russian jets should defeat an 15s by flying like a 15. If you fight with your fist as if you had a sword against a guy with an actual sword then no shit you will lose. Like I said, pretty much every multiplayer event. We lost the 51st in one of the JWs for instance, and there have been a hell of a lot more. ERs get low amount of kills because nobody can ever afford to support missiles in a multiplayer event. If you try to guide a missile until impact in a standard situation I can guarantee you you're gonna die every time. My perspective here. Every time I don't respect a launch I'm shot down. Unless the guy just sucks and doesn't know how to properly launch. And you know damn well I'm not the type of guy who does barrel rolls chaffing and praying that the ER'll just go dumb :) -

Pretty much every multiplayer event ever tells the exact opposite. Well flown RU jets easily have the ability to compete with well flown 15s. -

But this isn't the old client is it? ;) I'd love to have an insider response on that from someone who knows for fact. -

What's the default speed if you don't specify it? -
Aircraft topples and crashes on Takeoff Run

Sounds like your throttle axis is also the rudder axis. This happens to be the default setup, so if you push the throttle hard you also yank the rudder, therefore slamming the plane into the ground. -
Harder to find people with the radar!!?
TAW_Blaze replied to winchesterdelta1's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
I haven't noticed anything either. It probably has something to do with warping. -
Yea it was sweetfx. I'm on standalone but looks like repair doesn't replace some files in case they get deleted. I didn't remember what the sweetfx files were exactly so probably deleted something else too. Reinstall fixed it.
-
Good point as a matter of fact I did. But somehow I managed to screw up the game while deleting sweetfx settings now it won't even start after countless repairs. LOL
-
Just updated the game and then this happened. Tried repairing, did nothing :( Anyone with similar experience yet?
-
They're already pretty easy to see, you just need to know where to look. From what I've seen new missile smoke will be easier to spot, but it might float there for a little less time. Should help a lot against IR SAMs.

For all of the other 104th, one less thing Presing can complain about. :megalol:

Is this a flare resistance related problem or something else?

Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 2

Unfortunately I was only able to join the last couple days as I was spending my DCS winter sleep, but I loved this thing. I definitely would love to see events like this in the future. It's just awesome that it goes on and on without a set date or time, and you can join whenever you like, yet at the same time it's something a hell of a lot more than your usual server flying! The way I see it this is only going to get bigger, better, and a lot more fun! Thanks to everyone who helped creating it! -

DCS has 120C-5. I agree on the latter part that ECM should be reworked as it's highly bullshit. Not only the indefinite service time but the ability to jam all search radars is a joke at best. If DCS retains the current ECM model with improved missile kinematics / guidance then it'll become the next FC2 of maddog spam, except now it'll be HoJ. :) -

You do remember that nearly every Flanker thread I posted in I've been recommending people to fly high because the ER performs the best there, right? :D I know it'll be tougher to do what I said at high altitude but I still think it's highly possible. It requires a lot of experience flying in space which I don't have :) Once they fix the FM and/or the missiles I'll be more interested in flying in space, but for now I'll leave it for the situations where there's no better option. -

You missed the point :) ARH vs SARH if you have more or less the same range the ARH side will always have a huge upper hand. I can get around to ranges where my slammer will kill you if you keep on pushing while your ER is still going to miss me because I have the luxury to do whatever I want once the slammer's gone pitbull. But that's assuming an equal or advantageous fight for me. Nobody said you gotta hand me an equal or better fight. Albeit if you don't run me down with a huge advantage I'll just out climb you anyway. -

They do it because they are totally incompetent and have no chance or will to get a better understanding of air combat. But you can't define how things should work based on the clueless people's actions. It's like balancing a game based on the input of the bottom 10% players.. Just because it works on the server it doesn't prove the quality of the equipment. Of course I can. I meant current situation. But even if they fix things you won't have so much of a leg up on me to deny me a good shot, not from an even fight anyway. That would require the ER to have 1,5x range of the slammer or higher, not happening most likely. :) 90% of what you do in the sim is an unacceptable level of risk so that's kind of a moot point. If you're trying to kill someone you'll always be on the edge. Unless he's doing something extra stupid. Sorry, my bad. I keep getting flashbacks of the missile discussion thread. :) So do I. -

I'll agree to that. If the missiles grow some better legs once again I suspect flying high will be a lot more common and we'll have far longer range engagements all the time. Atm low flying is glorified due to the ranges we have. Another thing they'll have to do is fix ECM, if you add 30nm+ fights into the pool the current jamming will turn the game into a HoJ shooter. I'm not an expert of the matter but 80/90s technology fighter SPJ jamming search radars is a joke. -

Because they are stupid. I'm not talking about cheapshots. Shots that are practically active off the rail are very far from cheapshot. Just because you got the faster missile and slightly longer legs it doesn't mean I have to fly in the dirt to beat it. Stop over glorifying the crowd, they have no clue about anything and they'll do the first thing that seems to work for eternity. I can get close enough to take shots that will force you to throw your missile away without risking certain death. Period. Whether your ER guides or not. About this slammer singularity of yours, it's laughable. You come around complaining how shit your ER is, and then we add our view to make perspective. Then guess what, now everything is about the slammer. About time we agree that each side has it's own problems and ****ing move on. I very rarely come here to complain about the state of the sim but seeing this is just ludicrous. Back to the "I have it harder than the others" state of mind.. -

Slammer's supposed to guide on last known intercept point if the bug/lock is lost at any point. SUPPOSED TO. :) Meanwhile in DCS your slammer flies into the ground from 7 miles because you lost bug due to another nonexistant feature called TWS radar memory. Funny, ain't it? -
If you fire a 7 at a guy from 15 nm then he'll either laugh at you because he knows what's up or he'll turn around, neither of them gonna result in a kill. If he does manage to die somehow then it's probably the result of being awfully incompetent or having no SA. Flying in the age of sub 10 nm slammer shots where in many cases you can even dodge stuff from inside 8 miles and you want to kill someone from twice the range with a missile that has about half the kinematic capability of a slammer with the added bonus of waving a billboard that my missile is on the way. You're asking for a hell too much. My best advice using 7s is very simple yet complex. HAVE A ****ING WINGMAN!

Once we have realistic SAM behavior the general flying style will change lot. Being locked and shot at from max range is hilariously inaccurate. Not to speak of MANPADS/other IR or AAA based stuff being moved around the place during the missions. :)
