[ SOLVED ] Is there a way to access the Su-27 (for DCS World) module within DCS if FC3 is already installed ? I'd like to use the Su-27 menu items separately but I don't want to loose some of the FC3 aircrafts (MiG-29 / Su-33) by disabling FC3 via the module manager. Is there a way to do that, even if it implies some basic .lua editing ? Any pro-tip would be really appreciated  Thanks. (the Su-27 (for DCS World) only appears if I disable FC3)

And ED will get more love from their e-shop ;) (if there's no rush, there should be some summer sales if the spring sales are Steam-only)

I voted "extremely important" even if I'm convinced the "scaling" is only a factor of the visibility issue in the sim. I live on an island where I can spot small aircrafts, helos, and long-haul aircrafts from afar regularly. The light reflection/glare on the fuselage, wings, glass/canopy and such make them noticeable at long distances and we don't have that with the current engine. I really hope EDGE will add that kind of "shininess/glare/reflection" even if it's simulated with a trompe-l’œil (additional flare in the distance, bright spot based on the sun/moon position, etc.). (27" 1920x1080 monitor, 60 cm/24 inches from my eyes) Also, the anti-aliasing may be an issue by smoothing the few pixels in the background.

[SUGGESTION] Let that pilot grow a head (someday)
Bourrinopathe replied to Bourrinopathe's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
The devil is in the details ;) A head model should not interfere with the first person view. For example, [the P-51D pilot is no horseman and] we can see his reflection in the mirror (dynamically animated on 2 axis). I didn't check the shadow though. I assume the geometry could cast the shadow only. [EDIT: Nevermind. I've checked the P-51D, Mi-8, Huey pilots and even if the last two have their 3D head in the cockpit model (w/ model viewer), they're removed when the player takes command. No head shadow.] -
Ok, that's probably trivial, but as that wonderful sim is stuffed with details and realism, I thought it could be worth a post about this "issue". I can't help but notice the pilot miss a head on his shoulders: The proof: The symptom (no head shadow): I understand it would require a substantial amount of work for a little benefit (as for the rest of the body, it should be dynamically animated), but I'm inclined to think I'm not the only one who notices the lack of head shadow from time to time. ED's to-do-list is undoubtedly full of billions of higher priorities but please write that down at the bottom of the list. ;) Did anyone else notice there was no head aboard?

From what I've experienced with a custom mission (1 B-52 + 1 Tu-95 about 20 km ahead), the wingman AI behavior was inconsistent, even with an AI level set to "excellent". Even with the "radar off" order, the wingman sometimes fires a R-27ET while briefly using the radar (and R-27ER when out of ET). I would assume the "radar off" order does not mean "keep the radar off" in an offensive action. In any case, the wingman attacks the assigned target (friend or foe). What a dedication to the leader ;) -------- As nickexists said, the OLS can be oriented to the left/center/right (just like the radar) and +/- 15 levels per increment of one level (elevation). As the negative elevation of the OLS-27 is limited to -15°, I don't know how the 15 negative levels affect the sensor orientation (the second negative level seems to reach the max negative angle). If I recall correctly the OLS-27 search angle is limited to +/-60° in azimuth and +60°/-15° in elevation.

Joystick "Black Mamba" from VKB FSC Europe
Bourrinopathe replied to Flagrum's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
How to contact ВКБ Hi, You can contact VKB for a purchase or to gather any information, on their forum: >>> VKB forum - order section <<< Or, you can send an email (in english) to sales_en at the same domain address (vkb-sim.pro). Both are perfectly active. -
Thanks for the report Ironhand. That's an interesting point on the AI (mis)behavior ;) I'm wondering if the AI keeps its radar off in the same situation when it has been ordered to do so (comms: Radar off). There's definitely something to improve here. Maybe you should report the radar lock with the R-73 as a bug in a specific post for visibility? (I'll try to test the AI EOS lock + R-73 + radar off order when I can afford the time)

From what I know, Steam/Valve's cut on the store games is around 30-40%. Depending on the game popularity it can be a better deal with a wider player/customer base so it really depends on the sales volume to balance that percentage. In any way, if you want to support ED and unless you have a great influence on the Steam platform (curator, reviewer, lot of sim-Steam-friends, etc.), purchasing on their store is probably the best idea. Also, my experience with ED's support has been absolutely satisfying. :)

[SU-27] AWACS Hunt (Instant Action)
Bourrinopathe replied to Bourrinopathe's topic in User Created Missions General
Excellent! Thanks for the feedback Belgeode. Now I know it's doable and I'll have to train, train, train. I should try to order some basic maneuvers to my wingman (bracket right and such) and see how it goes. It could be more efficient to quickly get rid of that first group. And it's a good thing the landing was not a generic and boring task ;) Yes, please, do upload and share a video if you fly the Dyavoly Squadron! I'm glad you enjoyed the challenge. -
I like to think Spring sales are coming… :) Time for the wallet to do some push-ups and get ready. (even if some of us can't use the modules due to time constraints, it's a great way to support ED in addition to some full price modules (Albatros!))

su27 instant intercept mission: how to do it?
Bourrinopathe replied to a topic in Su-27 for DCS World
Indeed! I'd like an option to prioritize the targets, because those F-5's could very well put a missile in this nut shell. It's great that thread brought you to that fun mission. And thanks for noticing the bombers' jettison - I didn't know why they were RTB. That makes sense now. -
[SU-27] AWACS Hunt (Instant Action)
Bourrinopathe replied to Bourrinopathe's topic in User Created Missions General
Great. Let us know what you think and how you engaged the bandits. Best of luck! I tried to beat it yesterday but I still got spanked pretty hard (about ten times) before the following (still spanked/no victory). I encountered the F-4 and the F/A-18 with their load of Sparrows and Amraams… The first fighter group could (should?) be engaged without alerting the Eagles (they're tasked to protect the E-3 and will only engage if you cross a 60km limit). The E-3 will RTB if the first group is destroyed. As the AWACS was on its way back to Tbilisi, I tried to approach the group with the EOS (IRST) only (radar-OFF order to the wingman). Of course the F-15 are still triggered within the 60km limit (could be increased in the mission editor), but it may be better to get as close as possible to get the E-3. I don't think we can avoid detection in the mountain with that AWACS up there (I'll try). Somehow I managed to survive but I missed a F-15 which fled while I was struggling in the mountain with the F/A-18. My wingman got killed by one of them and I had to engage them with the gun. Very difficult. During the dogfight over the Great Caucasus, one F/A-18 crashed into the mountain. I was out of CMs, out of missiles, and almost out of fuel. I finally gunned down the remaining F/A-18 with the bingo fuel already yelling at me, and forced to use the AB to survive. Nasty. I burnt the last sip of fuel to reach about 4500m (still near the mountains) where I slowly dived to Beslan, maintaining a speed around 450 kmh. My very first fuel-less approach and landing (with crosswind!). It kept the adrenaline pumping until the end! (I had no idea how far I could go) I even considered landing on a road and I kept searching for a good spot while my altitude was slowly droping. Fortunately, as I was out of anything, the Flanker was light enough and flew surprisingly well on its way back to base. I ended up in the grass but without ruining the landing gear (thanks to the crosswind). I struggled to manage my landing speed, pitch and alignment with that crosswind. (I need rudder pedals…) What's horrible for me is trying to dodge all those missiles. It's really hard to be efficient when you can't maintain a lock to shoot a precious R-27R. The F/A-18 were literally spamming their missiles during their approach. I think I only survived because my wingman was higher and I dived to the mountains. Keeping track of the last fighter group in the dogfight is also really hard above the mountain. It's mostly grey color over grey color and if they don't use their AB it's just hell. Also, I fell in love with the HMS and EOS. It helped me track and lock the Hornets in the mountain. Among the many things I have to improve: I miss way too much with the R-73 at close range. I try to avoid the high angles and preserve the energy (get higher than the target, not in high-G turn) but the three Archers I shot all missed the Hornets :/ Any advice is very welcome. I will also try to change the loadout in favor of the Sorbitsiya and get rid of those R-27ET (I can't get any hit with them :( ) - but I know I'll miss those two precious R-73… Using the Tacview ACMI should help improving and understanding the events. The mission could be fun in MP. Indeed. I'll try to record a video if I manage to beat the mission, but I doubt it will happen soon ;) (long post with no pictures, sorry for that) -
X-55 Rhino impressions?

Hi I'm trying to add several Instant Action missions for the Su-27 used as quick training opportunities. As I'm way less experienced than most of you, I'd gladly read some feedback on that first Intercept mission. The reference post and download are here. DESCRIPTION: Basically, I used the default Su-27 Intercept mission and modified it. Your Su-27 and your wingman are still near Beslan and the "threat" is located above the mountains. The wingman skill is set to "excellent". Loadout: gun, R-27R, R-73. I was experimenting with some degree of randomization: You will encounter a first third generation fighter group (F-4E or F-5E) with random AI skills. The main target is an E-3 AWACS escorted by two F-15C (high + random AI skill) almost armed to the teeth (AIM-7 instead of AIM-120C). If the first group is destroyed or at least one of the Eagles is down, the E-3 is tasked to RTB (Tbilisi). Most of the time, that will happen as soon as you get rid of the first two fighters. Another trigger will spawn a reinforcement group (F-16A (70% chance) or F/A-18C (30% chance)). That's it. 3 groups and probably too many deadly missiles to kill you. I couldn't beat the mission yet. Either I get shot by a missile, or I run out of fuel or ammo etc. If the wingman is killed early, it becomes very challenging (for me at least). In my opinion, it's fun (and challenging) due to different factors: - it's hard to use the missiles efficiently and have a chance to kill all the bandits - you can end up dogfighting over the mountains against the F/A-18 or the F-16A - probably: gun training - great situation awareness development even with the help of the russian AWACS - fuel management (and you may be tempted to go full AB WVR) - defensive maneuvers training - crosswind landing at Beslan if you make it - fighting in the sunset with the AB is a delight for the eyes My main concerns are the difficulty settings: - would it be better to have the Sorbitsiya ECM pods? - that may be too much to handle for two Flankers - is the distance of engagement set correctly for the different fighter groups? - would it be interesting to set a random spawn chance for the friendly AWACS Please, feel free to suggest any modification or addition. I'd really need some feedback to tweak the mission. When it will seem balanced I'll generate a JSGME compatible file to insert the mission in the DCS FC3 Instant Action menu. A very simple mission, and I hope you'll like it!

su27 instant intercept mission: how to do it?
Bourrinopathe replied to a topic in Su-27 for DCS World
Indeed. I wasn't focused at the end of the mission and many things were done wrong (using the cannon or firing a missile way closer and flanking would have been more efficient). The B-52 are basically dead meat anyway. From what I've experienced, when the fighters are down, they just go back to Tbilisi (even if they're tasked to bomb Beslan's runway). @Frostie: thanks for sharing your approach! It's always good to try different tactics. I'm still struggling pretty hard to spot those IR missiles. [EDIT: I tried to create a second "Intercept" mission for fun, training and probable spanking. Feel free to give it a shot and help me improve it if you like it ;) >>> this way.] -
X-55 Rhino impressions?
Bourrinopathe replied to JG-1_Vogel's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi Lonewolf, I own a X-55 throttle for a few months and I really enjoy the ergonomics. Even the two close hats are manageable (I have a medium/large hand). Nevertheless, like BrassEm, I really don't like the mouse nipple. It feels cheap and imprecise even if I only tried to use it as a (two) way hat with a 40% deadzone - I don't even use it as a four way hat because of the feeling (not smooth and no way to find the desired direction instantly). In my opinion, the real problem with the X-55 is the build quality. The big plastic rotaries seem flimsy and have way too much play and friction variations to my taste (at least on the unit I own). The aluminium rotary/encoder near the pinky also has a friction problem on my throttle: there's a significant friction on a third of its total rotation (like a centering problem or some plastic rubbing the surface). It was that way out of the box. I also have a momentary push button (the one for the index finger) which requires a bit more strength now. No idea how it will withstand the test of time. Also, there's no slider. The button labelled "SLD" is a 2-position toggle switch. I'm satisfied with the throttle friction and the feeling is great (it's internally coupled with a set of gears). I don't fly any helicopter with it though. There's no AB or idle detent. I think it does the trick for the price tag but be aware it's not a top notch quality device. @BrassEm: would you have any picture or additional info on your mouse nipple replacement/mod please? How easy would it be to replace that little thing? That sounds really interesting ;) -
Great. Last time I had the opportunity to hear a DCS soundtrack, the Su-27 for DCS was almost there. Very pleasant mood.

Браво! Отличное видео и навыков! The Su-27 with PFM is a delight to fly. ;)

su27 instant intercept mission: how to do it?
Bourrinopathe replied to a topic in Su-27 for DCS World
Thanks for the details Ironhand! No doubt the poor thing would struggle simulating the same result with different algorithms. I didn't know if it was using the actual files or its own recorded data. I'll be careful to remove the intrusive mods next time. [EDIT: Here's the replay video] -
su27 instant intercept mission: how to do it?
Bourrinopathe replied to a topic in Su-27 for DCS World
Ok. But that replay function deserves some spanking ;) I've edited a video from my replay and I'll upload it to YouTube as soon as my internet speed allows it. It's in 1080p so it will take a bunch of hours… There's nothing fancy nor anything particularly valuable in that track but if anyone notices any serious mistake, I'll be more than happy to have some advice. It's far from perfect and it may be useful to other newbies like us to see what they should avoid. I'll insert the video ASAP. -
su27 instant intercept mission: how to do it?
Bourrinopathe replied to a topic in Su-27 for DCS World
Ah, that's unfortunate. It's probably a track compatibility issue. I can't get to run nickexists' track myself: it ends up firing gun rounds in the wind  In any way, it's strange the sim has decided an ejection has been triggered… I'm testing the DCS missile mod released by IASGATG, but I have no idea if it could ruin a replay if you don't have the mod installed. (otherwise I only have graphics and audio mods) I've checked the track before uploading it. Sorry you lost your time here.
