Night vs day carrier recovery
fenderplayer946 replied to fenderplayer946's topic in Military and Aviation
Awesome, thanks for the reply! -
Evening all, Just something I found on youtube recently, as per the title. The difference is just unbelievable, landing the Hornet or the Tomcat at night is gonna be interesting. Anyone know if any of the carrier jets were cleared to trap with NVGs on? Cheers Fend

Morning, If you visit http://wiki.hoggit.us/view/Airport_Charts_(incl._Freqs,_TACAN,_ILS) you can find a list of airports and the associated approach charts. These are also available in DC via your kneeboard. You can also use this mod for higher quality charts on your kneeboard. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/2046353/ Unfortunately I am unable to acquire full IFR charts to pass to you. TACAN approaches are typically flown from an initial fix which is found by flying a radial to a particular distance from the TACAN. You then fly towards the aerodrome, and depending on the weather either you then switch to a visual approach or a instrument approach, which due aircraft and DCS ATC limitations has to be an ILS. The circle you are attempting to fly sound like a holding pattern, from which you depart from as you fly the leg that is pointing towards the aerodrome. The holding pattern is typically co-located with the initial fix and different formations of aircraft fly the hold at different heights to deconflict. I hope this sheds some light. Cheers, Fend EDIT: These are the charts on your kneeboard http://server.3rd-wing.net/public/Manuels%20DCS/DCS_VAD_Charts_A10C.pdf

Nevada Altimeter Settings
fenderplayer946 replied to Crowman's topic in DCS: Nevada Test and Training Range
With high elevation airfields it is not possible to zero the altimeter. You've got it bang on with using QNH and correcting from there. -

Spitfire engine start
fenderplayer946 replied to fenderplayer946's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
@Kozmyk, aye, only tried it out of interest, it would be interesting to see what had changed and why over the years. @blue_six it would make sense if the fuel cock was off like and its not like you need the booster pump on to run the engine either. I also found that using the priming pump doesn't make a difference either. -
Spitfire engine start
fenderplayer946 replied to fenderplayer946's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
As in the way mentioned in the pilots notes? at 2:40 you can see the idle cut-off fully forward..... Kozmyk, yeah that's the only way that works in DCS, just wondering which is the most accurate more than anything else..... It's nothing game breaking. -
Spitfire engine start
fenderplayer946 replied to fenderplayer946's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
On the first pass it looks like it does but in para 36 (II) on page 19 is tells you to set the cut-off in the fully aft position thus removing the possibility of a fire in the supercharger, before operating the booster pump in III. Its this sequence that doesn't work in DCS, unless the notes are incorrect. -

fenderplayer946 replied to fenderplayer946's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
That and when you utilise the idle cut-off, according to the linked doc you should get it fully forward after operating the wobble pump/booster pump but before priming. if i do this in DCS the engine won't start, even if I try operating the priming pump as I try to start. -
Hello, Just for interest's sake I pulled up the original issue pilots notes, because hey, why not? probably hoping they would shed some light on operating this magnificent machine. I started to run through the check list and quickly noticed its different to both the training mission and the excellent video Wags have previously put up, undeterred I carried on only to find the "old" process doesn't get you anywhere. Needless to say this could be for a variety of reasons leading to a few questions.... 1. Are the original pilots note inaccurate or did aircrew disregard them? 2. Has the aircraft the simulation based on (presumably) been modernised in anyway? 3. Due to modern safety reasons was the start-up process modified? 4. Is this specific mark different to the Mk IX Merlin 66 engine covered in the pilots notes? 5. Where the checklists used in Wags video/tutorial taken from? The Fighter Collection's pilots? Royal Air Force BBMF pilots? After some research on Youtube, various Spitfire cockpit start up videos and many don't differentiate between marks, doesn't shed any light. Link: http://zenoswarbirdvideos.com/Images/spit/SPIT9MANUAL.pdf I understand that it is the beta and things are subject to change but due to the nature of the subject I thought it would already by nailed down. If anyone can shed some light it would be appreciated. Thanks Fend'

ILS APPROACH
fenderplayer946 replied to bob_baer's topic in A-10C Basic Flight Training Qualification DLC
Hello, Under the HSI there is 2 rows of switches where you can select the current navigation mode, HARS/EGI etc and the lower row where you select the sub mode, steerpoint, anchor point, TACAN or ILS. Inline with the top row is a switch which needs to be set to able to allow the bars to become visible. You will also need to select the relevant submode, in this case ILS. Ensure that the steerpoint mode is deselected. See the Warthog manual p116. Cheers -
Limited multi-role i believe? yes, no, no, maybe?, no. yes, no probably more comparable to the F-4 Cheers Fend EDIT: just found this, I know it's for X-plane but some of the load-out variations could be useful? http://www.x-plane.org/home/urf/aviation/text/37viggen.htm

LGBs veering off at last minute
fenderplayer946 replied to Capn kamikaze's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Ey up Cap'n, Just another thought, is your laser latch set to on? If its not and the laser stops emitting that could explain the deviation of the weapon, such as suddenly loosing track mid-course adjust. cheers, Jord -
