Red Flag Rumble - Mig21 vs F5 - Round 2
Stuge replied to 104th_Maverick's topic in Tournaments & Events
Sorry but youre doing it wrong mate :) Accurate S5-salvos will destroy even the tanks at point blank range, and shilkas from a bit safer range. The gun is adequate for the other non threatening soft targets, you only need very short bursts. -
Quote from first page: "Deciding Round: Short Range heat-seeking missiles (no R-27ET) + Guns". Interpreting this sentence literally would imply that R-27T is allowed. Also, there is absolutely no mention about limiting heatseeker count in the rules section, so these two points need clarification in the rules section!!

Just tested this mission. The Tigrs have their driving lights on, while the Humvees have them off. This combined with the relatively low lighting condition of the morning makes it relatively easy to spot the Tigrs, but extremely hard to spot the Humvees!! Recommend changing mission start time to full daylight, or replacing the Humvees with Tigrs! Otherwise it isn't exactly a fair fight ;)

AI F-5s cheat a LOT, defying physics, when on excellent difficulty. Try setting them on high difficulty for more reasonable opposition :)

Your fav tactics against Su-27 in a merge ?

Sweep I've come to the conclusion that G warmup is.. unnecessary, personally I have not found a significant benefit. If u gloc, the merge speed may have been a bit too high. -

Your fav tactics against Su-27 in a merge ?
Stuge replied to PrototypeBayu8's topic in F-15C for DCS World
Lets keep it simple. Merge at 500-550 kts indicated depending on your weight. Pull as much G as possible straight up into a loop with full afterburner. U know the entry speed was correct when u almost blackout during first 180 deg of turn. Acquire bandit visually ASAP (within 1-2 seconds from merge) and dont lose him. After 90 deg into the loop center your lift vector on the bandit. Attempt to lock bandit with vertical scan. Keep pulling aggressively for the kill shot, bleeding as much airspeed as necessary in the process to get your weapons on target. If the target is still far away when you acquire lock, pull proper lead before firing an AIM-9. Use BOTH AIM-9 and gun, as parameters allow. Use the gun confidently especially if it becomes a head-on encounter, you have the advantage in gun hit probability! Anticipate R-73 launches. Cut throttle and spam flares as necessary, but don't break off your attack!! The idea is to kill the bandit within the first 360 degrees of turning. If this fails, you may attempt a blowthrough escape after your initial attack. Your chances in prolonged entanglement depend on fuel weights and pilot skills. In most cases Flanker will have advantage. -
Dudes, all Mav meant is that you download the latest patch in time (not when match is about to start and then u might have a 30-60 min update) and then do a quick test run to see that everything's in working order (i'm looking at your TrackIRs especially!). So much easier when u have a hat switch :)

FC3 is for those who are more interested in actual modern air combat than just learning the aircraft systems :) To say it has a small learning curve... is an extreme simplification. Yes it's simple to learn if you only want to shoot down civilian airliners! But once the targets start shooting back... that's when the true complexity of combat starts to materialize.

Maverick planned this per flight as far as I know.
-
I believe two heatseekers per plane gives easily the best balance. The planes are a close enough match in terms of maneuverability and weapons capability this way, and thus any neutral 1 v 1 dogfight is likely to drag on for a significant amount of time... enough for a third party to intervene with a kill shot from outside, thus ending the dogfight. :)

How did I manage to miss this!

Try high speed and asymmetrical thrust. In the Su-27 asymmetric thrust gives you that extra lift that you need to make good knife edge. And if you fly straight as an arrow there's no fuel starvation. And go faster than 700-800 km/h. FC3 planes with old flight models can do knife edge easily without asymmetric thrust. You just need to be fast enough. F-15C remains untested for this yet, maybe someone could? :)

Hey guys, how are server stats taken into account? KD ratio, flight time, or a combination of some kind? If I were to compete for a spot, I would need to know the rules :) S! -

About FC3... sorry but dynamics of combat scenarios are more complex and have more variables than engagements with older generation fighters. From my point of view, FC3 (+M2000C now) is a harder package to master as a whole than 3rd gen, Korea era, or WWII era aircraft. It's easy to argue that FC3 is simple because AIM-120 does all the work, and yes it does, even for the greenest of pilots... until you face an opponent that actually has some experience... and then you get killed every time. :) Advanced systems modeling and clickable cockpit is mostly just an extra layer between pilot-aircraft-interface, which requires a bit of time to learn in itself, but once you know it that's it, there's no random dynamics, no endless variables, the switches always have to be used in the same way. Not related in any way with raw air combat skill, but is a separate entity.

You have a point Bushmanni but this match was decided by numbers. Many times the furballs were something like 5 vs 2, you can't expect a good outcome from that... besides, F-5 wins rolling scissors easily if you can convert to that flow, and even if that doesn't automatically get you the kill, it will buy time for your team mate to help you ;)

This problem appeared after version 1.5.5.58891.190 which was the last one where smoke pod effect was correct.

Grudge Match Series- Round 3: Mig 21 Vs F-5 & AJS-37 Viggen!
Stuge replied to Hook47's topic in Multiplayer
ViFF I think the auto flaps do help with sustained turns for Tiger, so no I don't think there's an energy gain for not using them, mainly because it lacks a bit in the thrust department so you're often forced to turn at a slower speed where the flaps optimize the turn... I haven't measured optimal speed for turning in F-5 but I always felt it is much slower than the Mig's, because the engines just can't maintain the speed that would be required for a higher-speed and thus higher-G turn. In this way the F-5 is a bit like Su-27, you don't have to fly on the border of blackout to get maximum sustained turn rate, a lower speed with lower G will do for max performance, much easier on the pilot, good for health and less neck problems in the long run :) In contrast the Mig-21 can sustain high enough G that blackout is a risk... but it's not as crazy as F-15C of course... that one is like having a large dog on a leash that's constantly trying to run away from you :) -

I just checked through the Tacview to see reasons for aircraft losses! Leading cause of loss was by far due to either not detecting a threat, or failure to react to the threat properly (being distracted by another target, for example). List of causes of aircraft loss: Failure to detect enemy fighter threat or failure to react properly to the threat: 47 Losses during head-on 1 vs 1 missile exchange: 2 Maneuver kills (crashed during maneuvering in combat): 2 Mid air collisions: 2 Friendly fire incidents: 2 Clean 1 vs 1 loss from neutral merge: 1 (This one went to the F-5, still ended up in another head-on confrontation, but what a great gun shot from Martini!) Shot down by SAM (Sa-13): 1 Revenge from the grave(destroyed by a bandit presumed to be dead): 1 Engine failure(out of fuel most likely): 1 Clean 1 vs 1 losses from neutral position due to superior maneuvering of opponent: 0 Losses fully accountable to differences in aircraft type performances: 0
