  1. GCI sounds good, SRS is a pain in the butt, and useless in this scenario with only 8 pilot teams. The only advantage gained is decreased voice quality :D My subjective opinion. :)
  2. This match was decided by decisive Fishbed aggression in the beginning, and their better force coherence over most of the match. Only towards the end did Tiger manage to bunch up enough fighters to fight equally and perhaps even winning some of the late battles. So, congratulations to Team Tiger for the loss and for having the energy to rise up to the challenge towards the end, giving Mig pilots a very action packed run for their money and some very nice combat entertainment for viewers. Congratulations to Team Fishbed for pulling off a brilliant blitzkrieg-style anti-ship attack which set the tone for the whole match. The BTR strafing afterwards wasn't so brilliant though, did you guys even have A2G gun ammunition loaded? :D Oh well, at least you got them in the end. Congratulations to the Leatherneck's Viggen pilots for demonstrating the aircraft's capabilities. The anti-ship missiles, the command-guided anti air missiles (very cool!!), combined with a quite nice maneuverility and short range air to air capability will make this module very welcome into the DCS community, and will surely be a favorite of many to fly in the future! Also thanks for the very nice formation flight demonstrations, it was great, regardless of funny mishaps in the end :D The outcome of the match was definitely not decided by aircraft capabilities, but through which teams performs better two things: aggression and staying together. There is safety in numbers, you are likely to win a battle against a numerically inferior foe! Similarly, there must be maximum aggression against all known targets of high value, which was in this case the ships and BTRs. In this context, especially due to the high value of poorly defended ground targets, I believe it is not tactically wise to go strictly air to air, since Mig-21, F-5 and the Viggen can all have multirole capability. Neither is it wise to stay defensive, waiting for the enemy to attack, since any attack on such poorly defended targets is likely to succeed at least partially. Slipping past fighter cover happens all the time, the radars of these aircraft are not good enough to give good situational awareness of the surroundings, so a strike package will easily go unnoticed until things start blowing up! Congratulations Hook on another successful event! Next time... Tigers/Viggens win again... but only if they train together a few days before at least :)
  3. If you rename the server to "Balls of Steel" server I will fly there often :):):)
  4. ET shots from max range might do the trick here.. against both AI and human opponents :)
  5. That friendly fire incident was a freak accident :D I have big problems in personal life currently but I'll be back later again :)
  6. The level turn seems the only good way for Mig to escape an F-5, more complex maneuvers can be followed through. F-5 auto flaps help with this! Even then, the F-5 pilot can make a reversal if unable to follow a sustained turn, causing a somewhat head-on merge ideally. The Mig pilot however struggles to stay behind a violently maneuvering F-5, overshoot occurs easily when going guns. Deep stall due to pulling stick too hard is a significant risk.
  7. Actually Mig-21's horizontal sustained turn rate is currently superior to F-5's, but only in a relatively narrow speed margin (high speeds of ~800 km/h). However, Mig suffers from poor slow-speed handling and thus it is easy for the F-5 pilot to force an overshoot and dominate in slow-speed scissors/rolling scissors and any other one-circle/nose-to-nose geometry. This combined with relatively poor air to air weapon lethality of both aircraft means that 1 vs 1 scenarios are likely to take considerable time to finish, with offensive and defensive roles easily switching between combatants. Because of this, team work, tactics, and concentration of firepower plays perhaps the most significant part in this matchup, and most kills are accomplished by heatseekers fired without the target detecting the missile launch.
  8. Yes, Eagle Dynamics is aware of this problem, they are working on it, and a fix is likely to be in the next patch (hopefully) :)
  9. Unfortunately due to a very unexpected and sudden personal crisis I am forced to cancel my participation in the event. As a side note I am slightly appalled by the level of discussion on this thread. There's way too much unconstructive criticism that leads absolutely nowhere. Organizers work a lot for such events, and considering previous Grudge Match events have been executed near flawlessly, one would think the organizers deserve some level of well earned respect.
  10. This may not be optimal place to bring this up.. but as it concerns the tournament I will anyway :) Does anyone else have the Mig-21's R-60M/R-60 missiles randomly refuse to give a tone for launch? I am absolutely baffled by what seems to be a bug.. sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't. This doesn't seem to affect for example R-3S. Anyone else have this?
  11. Being unexpected is what I do :) To be honest I just want to train Mig currently...
  12. - 104th_Stuge - 1 - 104th Phoenix - http://www.104thphoenix.com - Nationality: Finland - Location (for ping): Helsinki, south Finland, Europe :) - Available on December 10th: yeah - Available on December 17th: yeah - Chosen aircraft: Mig-21
  13. Continuing with this train of thought while taking into account information provided by others in this thread... in conclusion investing in stick extension is definitely the way to go, whether working with curves is desired or not.
  14. My comment was a joke without any informational content regarding the sim :D Apparently it passed your filter :):):)
  15. I believe sometimes it can be the other way around - working with curves may provide you reasonable stick extension.
  16. Ha... aiming laser missiles with Su-25 pipper against vehicle sized targets is a little hard.. you gotta practice to get the "feel" for the right spot, which is usually lower than it looks :)
  17. I find myself using a lot of rudder when in extreme AoA slow-speed rolling scissors or something similar (S key engaged obviously) and trying to find a proper balance between high AoA and roll rate (you know the thing doesn't roll at all when you exceed a certain amount of AoA). I feel maximum rudder into the roll helps a bit with the roll. Not sure how much of it is actual effect and how much placebo, but hey as long as it kills the bandit... For pretty much everything else (excluding engine failure and the aforementioned crosswind landing) I don't see the need for rudder use. Maximum performance sustained turns work just fine without it.
  18. You can still break it with full roll + pull at high speed.. whether this will happen by accident to me or not remains to be seen :) But yes after short testing it is much much better well done great fix!
  19. As a kinematic defense the 3-9 line is highly overrated. It is not optimal for bleeding the missile's speed. Running away is often much safer. The 3-9 line does give you the chance of breaking the radar lock though, and that may be the only option if you're too close to run away.
  20. There's three main ways you can defeat a missile: 1. Kinematically by bleeding the missile's speed, causing it not to reach you. 2. Break the missile lock, causing the missile to lose sight of you. 3. Make the missile impact terrain instead of you. Kinematic defeat consists of a combination of: -Maximum thrust. Faster is generally better. Just make sure not to fly into the missile, start maneuvering away from it. -High G maneuver away from the missile (more G is better, so stay fast enough!) -Running away from the missile, combined with a high G left-right snaking or barrel rolling maneuver if needed. -Flying as low as possible (low altitude -> high density air -> missile loses more speed) -If the missile seems to reach you despite previously mentioned maneuvers --> last moment maximum G maneuver just before expected impact. Breaking radar missile lock can be achieved with a combination of: -Try to get below the enemy radar (be it incoming missile or enemy aircraft). Dive low! -Put the enemy radar exactly on your 3 o clock or 9 o clock using your RWR and keep it there! You do not need to fly level, this also works in an almost vertical dive. You just need to make your flight path perpendicular to the enemy radar's direction in the 3D space. -Use lots of chaff (optional if previous measures are executed perfectly) -Make sure the missile has missed before resuming other maneuvers! AIM-120s reacquire very easily. IMPORTANT: if you are co-altitude of above the radar source, breaking the radar missile lock may not be possible!!! Breaking an IR seeking missile lock can be achieved with a combination of: -Flying straight towards the incoming missile (minimizes heat signature, very counterintuitive so try and see that it really works) -Reducing throttle to idle (yes idle, just cutting the afterburner may not be enough) -Pop enough flares in quick sequences! I recommend bursts of three presses in FC3 aircraft. -Once you visually see the missile go for your flares, maneuver your aircraft out of the missile's flight path to prevent it from reacquiring you. To make the missile impact terrain you may try to make a very steep dive and pull up at the last moment. Also make smart use of any hills nearby :) Bonus evasion techniques!!!: 4. Fly below minimum tracking altitude of the missile. Works against semi-active radar homing systems ONLY. (such as AIM-7M, R-27ER, and any radar guided SAM system) Does not work against active radar missiles such as AIM-120, R-77, or any heatseekers!! Minimum tracking altitude varies between systems, can be anything between 7-20 meters above ground or maybe even more. As a rule of thumb, flying below 10 m above ground will protect you from pretty much everything except the SA-15 Tor(whether land-based vehicle or on a warship) where you have to fly below 7 m above ground to be protected from this deadly SAM! Buildings and uneven terrain contours will be in the way and you have to decide.. whether to fly around them or fly over them and expose yourself for a few seconds which may be too much. :):):) 5. Attempt to shoot down the incoming missile! Can be achieved with heat seeking missiles only(R-73 is great, and R-27ET works surprisingly well perhaps because of its larger proximity detonation bubble..?). Easiest to perform with Russian FC3 fighters and Su-25(T) in longitudinal firing mode because launch authorize is tied to missile lock. Just point your nose at the missile, pull and hold the trigger, and your missile will launch at the correct time, hopefully destroying the incoming missile before impact. This can be achieved also at high angle off nose with helmet sight, but is very hard and thus not practical unless you mentally prepare in advance to do it :). Also achievable with AIM-9M, including by A-10Cs :)
  21. Alright, understandable, thanks!
  22. Is it possible to reserve 5 more F-15 slots for 104th? :D I just put my application in, just need to pass info about this to teammates to get them to do the same.
  23. Thx, appreciate it :) More tips: Revert back to CRT monitor ;);) Revert back to hat switch. Revert back to a pre-1.5 version of DCS.
  24. Visual spotting is hard. Even a spotted target can easily be lost due to inattention, bad lighting (the sun!) or too much distance. Small fighters are hardest to track. Just throw away your expectations, and keep practicing. Set up a mission against an AI plane, guns only, find it with radar if necessary, merge with it, and learn to keep sight.
