  1. Maybe what he means is smoke tracers?
  2. Simple answer to a simple question friend :):):)
  3. Yeah
  4. All are suspectible but the ARHs in the game quickly start scanning around after losing lock, thus reacquiring quickly. SARHs don't.
  5. For good Vikhr hits try to fire when the target is not moving much laterally. Best is straight head-on. Always enable A/A mode (if not then you need direct hit) and always double fire (one hit may not be enough. Even relatively slight lateral movement causes Vikhr miss, it is not primarily an air to air missile :)
  6. 1. It loses interest in chaff very quickly. On a hunch I'd say a normal time for an AMRAAM to reacquire would be 1-2 seconds, in this time the missile is not critically off course yet. Any longer break in lock and the missile may have veeres too far off course to be able to reach the target anymore ;) (depending on geometry of approach and target maneuvering of course) 2. Keep in mind that radar lock does not guarantee SARH missile guidance because the missile is homing on radar reflections from the target. Chaff is meant to screw up these reflections - thus the missile may not see the target even if it is illuminated by radar. Or, the radar itself can also lose lock due to chaff (but this doesn't happen in the game for now).
  7. ARH reacquires much more easily than SARH. Probably because of its automatic search function in a large area. I think SARH missiles can only reacquire in a very narrow cone and even then the launch aircraft needs to have a solid lock as well.
  8. Hmm very nice Ironhand, though I now kinda regret not being there in the morning... live fire of many weapons and these dipping sonars (?) from the helos damn :) If I visit Crimea again (and I hope I will, had a wonderful holiday), I need to book a hotel in Sevastopol for the night before to see this naval show in the morning! Also need to plan trip to Moscow next year to see MAKS air show that is awesome!!
  9. Just a guess but try to unbind joystick trim and then trim with keyboard only?
  10. It sure is! :) There were a bunch of warships nicely lined up in the Sevastopol bay, and once the sun set they were lit with lights like christmas trees :D I missed the air show that happened earlier that day though, it was too early :( Sorry strayed offtopic but what can you do :)
  11. Once you learn the editor basics (not very complex) it is easy to make any kind of simple scenario like this. Attack any unit you like or make units fight each other and get the popcorn :) Hint: put the Moskva missile cruiser in weapons range of a group of US ships and enjoy :):):) Btw I saw the Moskva live just a few days ago, in Sevastopol, it was a celebration day for the Russian Black Sea fleet! :)
  12. As far as I know Red Bull Air Race pilots routinely exceed 9G momentarily. I saw a text that said a pilot was disqualified for exceeding 13G :D
  13. To question 1 you have to lock target by pointing the inner circle at the target, this is the only way without radar with the aim-9. You manually show the seeker where the target is ;) To question 2 no it is not possible to get gun solution by aim-9 heatseeker lock. Gun use without radar is inaccurate. However, when flying a Russian fighter (mig29/su27/su33) you have a heat seeking sensor (infrared search and track) which works in combination with a laser rangefinder to give you a gun solution for stealth attacks, without radar usage ;)
  14. I'll talk about the longitudinal mode (number 6) since it is separate from the others - no radar! Should be used for: -radar malfunction -stealth attack Remember to IFF your target somehow! The inner circle represents seeker head direction. The outer circle represents the area where the target can move after lock is acquired. If target moves outside the circle, lock is lost. Therefore usually it is wiser to use the bigger circle (press 6 again). Vertical scan (3) and boresight (4) are the basic modes for close combat and should be used for non stealth combat since radar is used and your missile seeker follows the radar lock (much wider area than longitudinal mode) and also you get a gun shot solution and IFF.
  15. There's a rough analogy: Radar behaves like a flashlight - it illuminates targets for you to see TEWS behaves like an eye - it sees enemy flashlights (radars). Now imagine this in the night - the eye always sees lit flashlights from much further away than a flashlight could illuminate a target. This is why TEWS detection range of radars is much further than radar detection range.
  16. Try a look up shot (target against the sky) from 4 nm. You will hit pretty much every time! Of course, you are likely to get hit also if the bad guy shoots back :) As shooting range increases, hit probability decreases. Shots beyond 15 nm rarely hit, and thus kill probability here is near zero in most cases.
  17. Uber Pwned :):):):):)
  18. I don't mind the stress damage model, I just wonder if the limiter system really does such a bad job keeping the Gs in check. It does introduce a welcome increase in pilot workload nevertheless. Not unreasonable in any way.
  19. What a great and interesting piece of info, thank you! This shows how the "knee-jerk" reaction of people that this is automatically unrealistic is a very shortsighted view...
  20. You can IFF IRST-locked targets without spiking their RWR. This "feature" has puzzled me ever since it appeared in the game, many years ago. It is, of course, an invaluable companion for the stealth-oriented Flanker Ninjas like myself :)
  21. Actually the current situation mostly affects BVR where Eagles can fly max performance carefree while Flankers need to watch out how much G they can pull. However, surely this matter isn't urgent, since the Flanker had the 20+ G advantage for a significant time. That has been removed, and it is good!
  22. Huh, nice tip DarkFire, I'll try it out...
  23. I was supposed to say that I couldn't make it this evening.... but I forgot, sorry. I will also be away for a month now.
  24. Yes and also last I tested is much more susceptible to chaff than pretty much any other missile - beaming not required..?
  25. Yeah at high altitudes there's a "speed trap" you can get into where you're so slow that you are unable to accelerate and get stuck with the slow speed. The only way to correct is to dive for speed and try again :)
