Looks as though the 3080 will only come with 10Gb of ram so I dont really want lose ram with the next upgrade. DCS seems to at least allocate most of the Vram of the 1080ti. Maybe wait for the 3080ti which may come out after the AMD cards

I skipped the nvidia 20 series and am thinking on going big on the 30 series this time round - currently running 1080ti. Just wondering with all the CPU limitations in DCS whether anyone who is thinking about the nvidia 3090 reckons we would see a decent performance uplift. Or will the DCS engine just hold back the GPU? I do play other VR games so it would not go too waste but DCS VR is my prime reason for upgrading.

I am been mulling over the rift S and index for some weeks now. My pre-order for the index just came in and I have gone for that (fingers crossed on controller issue). Coming from a CV1 I think I just found that the Rift S did not have enough improvements over the original despite its price. I still dont think that the index is worth the money but I like what valve are doing and hopefully they will continue with backwards compatibility in the future. I also play vr games that are not sims so hopefully the controllers will get better with time. I think that whatever headset you get, providing it works as intended, will offer a great experience. It is a good time for vr

You need the base station with index. The only way to buy without is if you have the version 1 stations from the vive

Rejoice! The VR performance update comes next week!!

Do we know if this patch is out today? -
This looks interesting my cv1 has been awesome - doesn't more pixels mean harder contact spotting though?
-
Is it a closed beta or can anyone access it?
-
Which one you got- the wings software isn't compatible yet
-
Thanks for the thoughts - wish realteus would come out and give a bit of an update. Sounds as though it could be a bit of a wait if relying on the community.
-
Thanks for that makes me feel slightly better. The activation codes I received for the simshaker software are not working either so hopefully that will get sorted. Probably have to end up buying them off andres shop It just seems odd to me that for a product that is 6-8 months behind schedule the software is not ready to go. You'd think they would have sorted it during the delay period - waiting patiently

Got mine on Wednesday. Definetly disappointing from dcs point of view. Hopefully this will change in the future although dcs seems to have been removed from supported games on realtus website

Yeah would be interested in this also as my 1080 ti is nearly rock solid at 45 fps pd 1.5 msaa off mist things on high except shadows Do you use process lasso as well I found this helped a lot. I think if rtx and dlss have some good benchies I am also sold
-
Dont forget 1080 ti has more vram which DCS eats for breakfast
-
I know what you mean. My head was happy but my heart was a bit disappointed that there will be no new shiny.
-
Think this is pretty good advice. Cancelled my order this morning and gonna wait a bit longer on these cards see if they deliver as promised. Was playing around with 1080 ti yesterday and it runs most things on high with asw in single player anyway. I cranked up the pd to 2.0 and could not really see a significant improvement. The whole release is getting more fishy as well with still no rtx or dlss despite a few of the titles being available for a few months. If they come down to around 800-900 gpb for an aib I may bite. I think that is a fair price

If you have a rift this can be done through oculus tool tray - 3rd party app.
-
I also have about a week to decide on 2080 ti pre order. I certainly don't think it is good value for money but looking through the threads you should see some fps improvement when cpu is not limiting factor. But it's not going to be like going from a 980 ti to a 1080 ti - we are just hitting a wall in dcs it's not the fault of the card. Do you play any other games or have a monitor which would take advantage? For me if I do stick with it I will get nice boost in some vr racing games - plus boost on my 3440x1440 display so kind of justifying it that way.
-
For me i seem to notice a slight stutter when asw kicks in so i leave in always on. I find the ghosting more annoying than the shimmer buy I love the ka50 at the minute so 45 fps is not too bad
-
Oculus tool tray should be able to sort this out?
-
The more I am reading the more I think the 2080 ti is not going to offer a great deal of improvement for dcs vr. I think we have hit a wall in the code which current hardware (cpu mainly) is now holding things back. Shame cos I was looking forward to buying a 2080 ti - might change my mind again yet though it's still on pre- order

Performance Chart For RTX2080TI / I74790K CPU
kevman replied to Tinkickef's topic in Virtual Reality
Kudos to the OP for doing the tests - cant help but think the DCS should have some decent benchmarking function. Its difficult to interpret what the actual improvement of the 2080 ti is -
Sure there is 50% increase in VR benchmarking software - we all know that DCS VR on the other hand is a completely separate beast and does not play to the normal rules. I do hope there is genuine improvement in DCS as I will likely buy new gpu if there is. On current results im on fence with my 1080 ti

Nvidia RTX cards and DCS - ?
kevman replied to 0414 Wee Neal's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
There is no way I could keep all that shinyness sealed up in the box. Really interested in 2080ti perf in vr from all the pioneers. Just picked up evga 1080ti so will look to step up to 2080ti if good benchies. Only really need extra oomph for dcs and il2 vr so hopefully performance increase will be good forcing me to part with hard earned cash :megalol:
