So, the RL Typhoon is basically in Early Access? Pre-Alpha? The DayZ of modern multirole fighter jets. It never gets done... :D I'm really excited about multirole fighters. I see many Hornets moving up my pipper with a mixed loadout and over-confident people who think they can actually fight with bombs strapped! :D

I handpicked my stuff over 6 months while reading dozens of tests and reports regarding raw power, efficiency and power consumption for almost every part in my computer and if there was one thing that came clear was that a overpowerd PSU will more likely harm almost everything. 1st your wallet. The higher the output, the higher the price. 2nd your wallet. The further away your own max load from the peak output of the PSU, the lower is the efficiency. A 1000W PSU at 400W output drains more power from the wall than a 600W PSU providing same output. 3rd the components inside the PSU. No airflow will cause hotspots in your PSU which reduces durability/lifetime of the whole PSU. 4th the overall noise. Again no airflow will also make your case, CPU and GPU fan work harder, as most cases only come with one or two intake-fans. It's always better to have a couple of fans running on low RPM than one or two off while three or four must run at higher rpm. But that's just my opinion. No need for high output PSU if not going for SLI/CF. The sweet spot for PSU lies around 75-90% load. One more thing: don't buy OC RAM. 50% higher cost with 2-5% increased performance. Totally worth the money! [/irony]

In a 1vs1 I prefer to have all options at hand. My loadout looks like this: 2 AIM-120C (longest range, shoot while high and fast, put him defensive) 2 AIM-120B (perfect for mid range and snap shots within 7NM) 2 AIM-7M (very good in tail aspect and close ranges) 2 AIM-9M (dogfight missile, also good for snapshots within 8NM head-on) Just don't believe every missile gets you a kill ince within DLZ. Every missile has an effect on your target and you can use this to your advantage. Bandit running away but only 3NM out? Too far for the 9 but a 7 will make him snake to get you closer or he will even turn into you as a last ditch effort. When he does, shoot a heater at him but prepare to merge.

Why the 850 Watts PSU? I have 800W and am running 2x 980GTX partnered with a Haswell-E 5930K and the whole system drains 530W from the wall.

Red Flag 4 Hitting the new NTTR Theater for DCS World!
Jester Darrak replied to FLANKERATOR's topic in Tournaments & Events
Despite the envisioned 15 Aggressors vs 30 Challengers, Blue Team had an outstanding performance with facing 17 "Commies" with only 23 pilots. Speaking of the quality we were up against, with some of the best pilots online flying has ever seen, I must say everyone should be proud of what we achieved. And I'm looking forward to seeing all of you again. Maybe we mix up the next time. ;-) -
Red Flag 4 Hitting the new NTTR Theater for DCS World!
Jester Darrak replied to FLANKERATOR's topic in Tournaments & Events
My recap: I flew as #2 in a 4-ship and for most for the time had no idea what was going on. Didn't look at kill board or the chat for kills to keep immersion up. And I was thrilled the whole time until Stuge crashed. Then it was just going balls deep.^^ Anyway, my first such event and it was fun, interesting and I learned at least something. BLUE commander gave us a nice plan to work for and it worked. I lived, staying with the winning team. Thanks to everyone participating and organizing. Jester -
It is very possible that you are stuck in vertical scan [3]. Check your key bindings, BVR is [2]. Otherwise try slewing your radar cursor towards the top of the screen, it should automatically increase scan range to 20NM.

Forgot to mention I had an Eagle looking for me so I had to crawl through the mountains. So, basically, the answer is yes! ;P

Sorry for hijacking, but someone called an STS!

Yeah, people tend to start managing fuel when they are at Fuel 500, including me. Just recently flew (or more like glided) 150NM with like 6,000 lbs in my Eagle at 85%RPM. Took me ages to go home!
-
Well, there might be several issues causing that. When flying the Eagle I sometimes can't even get a solid lock when I see his tailpipes eight miles behind him. Notch is pretty effective, I almost lose lock within a second that he turns. Just look where you saw him and remember where he was going, even if you have to go into a violent nose down attitude. Then you watch at the terrain and might be able to anticipate his moves. I once let a M2K get to me within 8 NM unnoticed and luckily was able to find him and get a shot off. Anticipation, guys. Eagle at 45k and 40NM dead ahead? Keep snaking while dragging him in, every once in a while look for his position. If you have him 15NM up your nose it's time to start zooming up. You can fire SARHs from 10NM and an altitude difference of 20k ft and he will probably get no launch warning when you fox since he's blind and deaf on his belly.

I think the Mirage is sort if blind or at least very limited without AWACS or ground control. And that is on ourpose. A simplified radar control and/or electronics help keeping the cost per unit and flying hour low. GCI/AWACS does the trick though. The Mirage was not built for air superiority like the Eagle so keep in mind to not try to use it like one. Grab a bag and fend off any bandit closing in on your base but do not go hunting. Get an Eagle Driver guide you in on bandits or pack bombs and deliver. It is not about the kills, it is about keeping the enemy at bay and deny him offensive momentum. It was built in a time where NATO (EU countries) was only to stall the enemy while US Forces starts packing big stuff for the counter attack. I read somewhere that the bigger "plan" saw Sowiets coming close to the Rhine until US+NATO could properly fight them off. Not to mention initially tactical nukes on defensive positions in the first three days.

DCS seems to be set to a stretched-to-native, borderless windowed mode which is mandatory for multiple screens and/or exported MFDs and stuff. To get into real full screen use [LAlt]+[Enter]. If you [LAlt]+[Tab] into Windows you should see a difference as the screen goes black for a split second. Remember to go [LAlt]+[Enter] again everytime you tabbed to Windows.

Low GPU and CPU usage but LOW FPS also...why?
Jester Darrak replied to Ala12Rv-watermanpc's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Well, the GPU usage might have something to do how the GPU is designed. The GPU is made of several clusters that each contain different processing units. And if not the whole power is needed equally let's say tessalation unit only 5% but texture unit 95% we have an average of 50%. Althoug just a wild guess it might explain it. -
How do I activate the Oculus Rift DK2/SDK 7.0 in DCS World 2.0?
Jester Darrak replied to whiteside's topic in DCS Modding
Don't you need F12 with oculus since it "overrides" NumView entries, just like TIR? -
Blue on blue is as old as war itself, it's just part of the game, but if someone willingly shoots a friendly he deserves a punishment. Most incidents happen right at homeplate because people tend to bend or even ignore the rules during taxi, take off or landing - if they even read the rules. If I see someone repeatedly taking off from taxiway, killing friendlies or even gun-running during landing and then crashing into me right after touch down, I take a screenshot and then report him to the admins. I don't know if kicking/banning is possible at the moment because there were some problems with that when 1.5 went open beta, but I still got the evidence and at the very moment there is nothing one can do about it. So just grab a new aircraft and start again, that’s how life works. ;)

Not even that.

You are talking about the A-10 here, I must assume, where rearm and refuel is possible with engines running, repairs need engines off. No need to use intercom, just open your canopy and an invisible crew chief climbs an invisible ladder and does whatever you ask him to do (LAlt + '). Airfield has to be allied, not sure about the single unit but that you could try easily in the mission editor.

Rudder sensitivity - Saitek Combat rudder pedals - DCS 1.5
Jester Darrak replied to speedbird5's topic in F-15C for DCS World
Don't use NWS above 50kts. Before lowering your nose, disengage NWS [LAlt+Q] or you will veer off the runway within seconds. Increased rudder authority only slightly affects ground handling but will give you enough force to steer down to 50-70kts. Remember, when you are on final approach your only corrections should be pitch and throttle. -
Log Book - The fictional diary of a fighter pilot
Jester Darrak replied to Jester Darrak's topic in Chit-Chat
090917Znov15, southern border, Maintenance Hangar “Hey Steve, what did you do to Catherine? She’s all naked!” “I had to, Chris. You had a bird strike.” “Yeah, I had a bird strike... Wait, huh? When did that happen?” “Well, based on decomposition of the tissue and considering the damage taken I would determine time of death was five days ago. Cause of death is very likely cardiac arrest due to rapid loss of blood caused by the fact the victim literally got sliced. You want to see the body? Or, well, at least what is left of it.” “Urgh, Steve, you need to stop watching those shows. That’s disgusting!” “Hahaha, never knew that blood would be that delicate for you. And I didn't even show you the pictures.” “That’s definitely not the problem here.” “If you say so. Anyway, I changed a few blades of the second compressor stage, test was about to begin. Wanna join?” “To hell, why not. I must admit it is kind of boring just sitting around with nothing to do. Didn’t see Marsh since the barbecue.” “Yeah. I overheard someone saying that he went hiking or something like that. Said he left the base in a pickup early yesterday morning.” “I think he is up to something. No matter how stupid we think he might be, that guy always has something cooking.” Steve and I went over to the engine testing cell and he started the computers up. “Speaking of which, you know what’s for lunch today, Chris?” “No, surprise me!” “Sliced chicken breast with lemon sauce and…” “Steve! You make me sick, you know that?” He just laughed and once everything was prepared and initialised, he started the test run. “Hey, your number one is getting a new afterburner stage so you won’t be flying Catherine for another three days.” “Oh come on. Just keep me grounded for another week and I will request transfer to the Army!” “No you won’t. But, since you seem to have some time now, why not checking up on Hector's parents? I mean, you and Hector always were kind of close and they liked you a lot.” “I don’t know, Steve. There is no solid Intel on Hector’s condition or whereabouts. What should I tell them? They don’t need me to tell them that me and Hector were friends. I spent the last three thanksgivings at their place.” “You are friends, Chris. I don’t believe that Hector is dead until I get proof. And neither should you.” “Maybe you’re right.” “I am right. And there is another thing. Did you ever think about that the Barnes’ would just appreciate your presence? They probably know as much as you do but just being there would help them.” Steve was right. Like he used to be most of the time. I think I’ll drive over and pay them a visit. “I hate you, Steve. You and your wise words. Just make sure you put Catherine back together. And if there’s a screw or bolt left over you start again from the beginning, you hear me?” “Sir, yes sir!” Steve replied laughing. I then went to Marsh’s office and told his adjutant that I was visiting the Barnes Family. He would not have any objections but to be back before 7PM. 091915Znov15, southern border, Staff Building “Burton!” Hey, the Colonel was back but I didn’t see his truck outside. “Good evening sir, how was your trip?” He stared at me. “What trip?” “Never mind, Sir. What can I do for you?” He asked me into his office and closed the door. Bakic was there, too. “Captain Burton, you remember Agent Bakic?” “Yew sir. How are you doing, Agent?” He didn’t answer to my question but asked one instead. “When was the last time you have seen Captain Vogler?” “Pardon me?” “Captain, answer Agent Bakic’s question.” “Uh, two days ago, after the Squadron Briefing. Why do you ask?” Bakic looked at the Colonel who just nodded. Then Bakic gave me a file and opened it. “Do you recognize these people?” I looked at a photo that showed Captain Vogler and a couple and they were clearly Myers’ parents. “That’s Dave and Linda Myers. The parents of my deceased wingman. Buz you know that, so what is this all about?” “Where have you been this afternoon, Captain?” Bakic wouldn’t stop. “Captain, where have you been this afternoon?” “I was at the Barnes’ house, visiting Hector’s parents. And if you want me to answer any more questions you better start talking what this is all about!” “Watch your tone, Captain! Agent Bakic is just doing his job and you should be doing yours which right now is following orders and answer to his questions.” That made absolutely no sense to me. Why is the Defense Intelligence Office interested in us visiting families of deceased fellow pilots? “Sir, I had extensive training in interrogation techniques and how to react when it is not clear if the one asking questions is friend or foe. So I respectfully ask again to tell me what the hell is…” “Enough, Captain! I will not tolerate your behavior any longer!” Then, suddenly, Bakic insisted. “It’s okay, Colonel. The Captain has a good point. Sometimes there is no black and white and the lines are blurred.” “So now you’re the good guy here? Would anyone of you please tell me what this is all about?” “As you wish, Captain.” Agent Bakic showed me more pictures. “This is Captain Vogler’s Van. We found it yesterday, five miles outside of town on a forest road. The driver's window was smashed and the windshield had several bullet holes. We didn’t find any shell casings but there was a lot of blood on the driver seat. We tested it and got confirmation it was Vogler's. Too much of it that he could have survived it, but we didn’t find his body yet.” “Are you trying to tell me that Vogler is dead?” “Yes, Captain, we have to assume that. Agent Bakic here was following a lead when he found out that Vogler visited the Myers and started asking questions. His sister used to work as an intern for the DIO and he visited her, too. We found out he started questioning things, believing that Myers could be still alive.” “So, is he?” “We don’t know that. But two years ago, Myers was out of country on a maneuver and could have made some contacts. With Vogler now dead the DIO thinks that enemy intelligence services might be operating in this area.” “Spy games, Sir?” “Looks like. I think I do not have to remind you that we are still at war. So be careful what you say and who you talk with. And check your six, everytime, not only in the cockpit.” “Understood. Is there anything else?” The Marsh and Bakic again exchanged looks. “Not for now, Captain. I will temporarily assign you to C&C until your aircraft has finished maintenance checks.” “Puppeteer?” “Puppeteer. Report to Major Muller, he will provide additional information. And Captain, button up, it’s cold at Eagle Ridge! Dismissed.” Eagle Ridge? All I know is that there used to be a mental clinic ten years ago but nothing else. That man is a walking riddle. I longed for the door handle when Agent Bakic stopped me. “And whatever your instincts or good manners would tell you, Captain. Stay away from the Barnes family, you hear me?” “Yes, good copy. Will there be a time when you stop being that mysterious and start talking facts, Agent?” He must have been thinking about it because he hesitated to answer. “Nah, would lose my job then.” I laughed for a brief moment and then left the Colonel's office. Eagle Ridge, he said. Won’t get far with my convertible, better grab a truck from the car pool... -
Usually Bullseye is one of your waypoints and once you are around, you just need to look at your HSI. It shows your own reference to bullseye in degrees heading and nautical miles distance. You call a bandit with BRAA, but from your own position. If you also call your position one could easily triangulate position of the bandit using the ruler in F10 map. If the bandit is far out you can even use the BRAA to find his grid. Giving as much info to your fellow pilots as possible will favor you in killing him and come out alive. The longer you fly, the more you will use BRAA and bulls as reference. At one point you will simply know where you are, look at the radar and give quick and precise information. It's all in the practice. ;)
