So, any news on the whisk whisk looping in flyby view? For me, it destroys an otherwise stellar mod.
-
Looking in Moltar's Mod, he's got 20 more files for the F-18 than what are in your mod. He also has duplicate wav files for some of the OGG files you have. If I remember correctly, the sim will read a WAV file before it reads an OGG file? Afterburner.wav - Totally different sound Distant_Around.wav - Much louder than yours. There is also the Whistle.ogg there as well which sounds the same as the default but is a bigger fie in size. Then he's got what appears to be a bunch of the default sounds in the folder as well. Definitely not a duplicate of your mod.

Fooled around with this a bit more last night. I noticed that when I install the mod stand-alone, the issue is reduced significantly, although it is still there. If I install Moltar's Mod, the whistling becomes more pronounced in the whisk whisk looping. Very strange indeed.

Just a few hornet tanking pics - BIG -

Probably using ReShade. -
It's pointing to whistle.ogg. So you are correct, whistle2.ogg is not being used. The whisk whisk still persists though. I wonder why it is worse in Moltar's Sound mod. That's peculiar.

I am in flyby mode when this happens. I pulled the whistle2 sound from the folder and tested and the cyclic up and down pitching noise goes away. So that is part of it. But, the Whisk Whisk is still there. So I pulled the Distant_Flyby_Noise.ogg and tested again, and most, but not all of the whisking goes away. I get two whisks just before the aircraft passes. With the file in the folder, I get 5 whisks before the aircraft passed. Once I get over 450 kts, it's playing so fast you hear it for a split second. But, it's the worst at 250 knots -450 kts.

Oh my! Do these sounds sound good! This is a must install. Thanks for the effort. Update: I do have one issue I've found. When the aircraft is coming towards me in external view, I get a whisk, whisk, whisk sound that increases in looping cycles as the speed of the aircraft increases. It's even worse in Moltar's pack. Getting ready to do a repair to see if that will resolve the issue. Update: Clean repair does not resolve the issue. Their is also turbine whine that is too high pitched that cycles up and down with the whisking sound. Once the aircraft gets close enough to the camera, it all goes away and the sounds sound like they should. Hoping I'm not the only one experiencing this so we can find out what the cause is. I'm going to start digging into the files to see if I can identify the sound file that has the issue. Listened to the Whistle2.ogg and it cycles up and down. I have to wonder if that's not the file being played back at a much higher pitch/speed when the aircraft is approaching. The other suspect sound is the Distant_Flyby_Noise.ogg as it has the same pitch sound quality of the whisk, whisk sound I'm hearing. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

I'll be adding a little more weathering on most of these. They look a little too clean.
-
I'll be focusing on painting the 70s - early 80s hi-vis schemes once this puppy hits my SSD.

Thanks. They're coming along quickly now. I finished these two tonight. The CAG with the orange trim shown below did in fact exist. I only had two tail pictures of it, so I estimated the year on this one to be 1995 based on the markings of other aircraft parked next to it in the hanger. Was too unique not to include it in the pack.

Got one of the bonus birds done. I have one more CAG to do and then I'll move on to the line birds. I think I'm going to do circa 1996 and 2006-08 for the line birds. I'll have to see. So, 4 XO schemes, 4 CAG schemes and the CoNA will be in this pack. The line greys will be another pack. Tell you what, the stars on this bonus bird were a PITA. There are orange shadows on 5 sides of each star. It was not possible to stretch the shadow star in a way that would work. I had to cut the stars up and place each shadow individually. As such, I'll be migrating these stars to the other ones I've painted thus far because they are the correct size with the correct shadowing. The things you learn as you go I tell ya! Also, although the small snake tail art on this one looks the same at first glance as the others, it's not. Different colors and it's rotated more forward. I've got some pics of Charlie model 204 birds I may do later. I'll have to see. They're nothing special.

If you want to work 9-10 hours a day, then come home and paint for 8 hours a night and 16 on the weekends, have at it. I get to keep my wife though. And my kids! LOL

I did find a site with their BuNo numbers. No Pilots though. Not sure the years in service were there either.

Honestly, I'm cranking on all the F/A-18 skins so hard because the F-14 is coming. I want to get a bunch of F-14s done when it is released. I'm on a crunch to get all the F-18s I want to paint into the sim ASAP. I haven't been flying the sim too much recently, but instead painting my butt off. I'm not a fan of TV nor do I have any other responsibilities keeping me from Photoshop at the moment. So, paint away I will. :-)

Possible F-14 Texture Template release??
Bananimal replied to The Thunderbird's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Looking forward to getting my hands on the template. -
I haven't found much of any pics of these birds. Definitely want to do them, but with no pics, there's no BuNOs or pilot names.

Waterman.....The way I see it is, I have a small fortune invested in this sim and I'll be damned if I'm going to fly halfway decent looking planes in it. I do find it difficult to make a grey bird convincing. The only thing I have to work with are the decals and proper colors. Getting the decals scaled, colored and placed correctly is all I've got to convince the eye that what it is looking at is realistic. So I spend the extra time on it. I think the mistake most people make is not getting the too dark grey default base corrected and they crank the dirt up to 100%. They also leave the panel lines at 100%. 90% of the skins I've downloaded are like this. If the skin is relatively new or slightly worn, reducing the intensity of the panel lines goes a long way in increasing the realism. BTW, thanks for the comment and thanks for your M2000 sounds. They sound killer.

The big one is, yes. The small snake came from a PNG someone posted in one of my earlier 204 camo threads. Saved me some time. I did have to correct the colors on it. The air brakes are mostly hand drawn. I found one image I was able to use as a base for 401. Took me about 2 hours to get the perspective corrected and then I had to rework the entire thing once I got it laid down. Getting decent pics of the air brakes is tough. They're are very few of them and they are all at an angle with either glare or shadow across them and the graphics are curved up and down across the surface of the brake. I got them as close as I could.
-
Here's a few shots of the different aft ends I've done so far and a few shot's of XO 401 2007.
-
Love yours too man, and thanks! Here's a few shots of the weathered version of XO 401 in three flavors. 400, the CAG I just finished yesterday. There are three different air brake graphics on these. The Air Brake on the Aggressor packs will be updated accordingly once this pack is released. I've got two more, possible three CAGs to do and then the line grey and black schemes will follow. I'm having a hard time discerning whether the CAG I just completed is black or dark blue trim. It's too difficult to tell. Every picture I have looks black or either very, very dark blue. I just can't tell. If anyone knows. please let me know.

DCS last Update: Big problem !!!
Bananimal replied to FistofZen's topic in Controller & Assignment Bugs
That's great, but don't you think it would be a good idea for ED to include this MASSIVE change of direction in the build logs so people can at least try to prepare instead of getting a head shot? I read the logs before I decide to update. Nothing of this was mentioned. I was right in the middle of painting aircraft and needed the controls to view the aircraft externally in game. No notification what so ever until we find out the hard way. Not cool, at all. Now instead of painting, I've got to rebind ALL modules because I own them all. Involuntarily re-tasked into fixing this mess. Besides that, someone took a shortcut. There's no way it's not possible to read a .lua file and compare to the new one with the new changes and migrate the user's custom settings or at least ask them to rebind the ones that have changed if they want to. You code should read, user's setting is X for control input named Y, User setting X is now migrated to new control name Z. I don't see how that is not doable. Instead, the entire task is dumped in the end-user's lap to resolve. A rule of thumb in the dev world is NEVER cause a work stoppage with a deployment. In this case, the work is your end-user using your product. And I'd say the work has stopped, no doubt. -
I'll never say, "never," but that plane is probably the only F-18 I'll ever paint with zero weathering on it. It was painted that way and flown by the squadron for a few weeks where it was then sent to Marine Base Quantico to be setup as a gate guard. It sure is pretty in the sim. One of my favorites.

Got it weathered up properly now. Also created the correct air brake graphic with correct colors. Will be starting the next two this evening.

DCS last Update: Big problem !!!
Bananimal replied to FistofZen's topic in Controller & Assignment Bugs
Same here. I'm more than irritated. I have ALL modules and most are dorked. Thanks ED! Thanks for deciding how I need to spend my time to get back to where I was. This destroys continuity in the game. Especially when my backups fail to resolve the problem. The end result is, we have to rebind and relearn aircraft because there is no way to remember all the bindings I used to have. This is why I created a backup. Who thought this was a good thing? -
The second aircraft of this pack is just about done. It's the XO bird 401 circa 2006. There will be three variations of 401. This one, 2007 and 2008. All tail art is 100% hand drawn. Learned a few new tricks in Photoshop that allowed me to do it. I'm still tweaking colors but it's getting pretty close. :D
